The <keyword id="19949639" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="rupee" source="keywords">rupee</keyword> rallied for the fourth consecutive trading session on Friday and appreciated by 18 paise to settle at 83.11 (provisional) against the <keyword id="6368584" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-dollar" source="Orion">US dollar</keyword> on fresh foreign fund inflows and suspected intervention by the <keyword id="19899808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI" source="keywords">RBI</keyword>. <keyword id="19950258" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="forex" source="keywords">Forex</keyword> traders attributed the rally to Rs 2.11 lakh crore record dividend by the RBI to the government for the fiscal ended March 31. It was more than double the budgeted expectation, helping shore up revenue ahead of a new government taking office. At the interbank <keyword id="6368276" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="foreign-exchange" source="Orion">foreign exchange</keyword>, the domestic unit opened at 83.26 and moved in the range of 83.03 and 83.26 against the greenback during the session. The local unit finally settled at 83.11 (provisional) against the <keyword id="19904292" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dollar" source="keywords">dollar</keyword>, registering a rise of 18 paise from its previous close. In the last four trading sessions the local unit has added 39 paise against the American currency. The forex market was closed on Thursday on account of 'Buddha Purnima'. On Wednesday, the rupee appreciated by 2 paise to settle at 83.29 against the US dollar. "The <keyword id="91748" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-rupee" source="Orion">Indian rupee</keyword> gained on suspected intervention by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The RBI's Rs 2.11 lakh crore dividend to the government also boosted market sentiments. "Fresh FII inflows and a decline in crude oil prices also supported the rupee. The US dollar strengthened as markets trimmed rate cut bets amid hawkish US data and hawkish Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting minutes," said Anuj Choudhary - Research Analyst at Sharekhan by BNP Paribas. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, declined 0.22 per cent to 104.88. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, slipped 0.70 per cent to USD 80.79 per barrel. "We expect the rupee to trade with a positive bias on positive domestic equities and overall weakness in crude oil prices. However, weak global markets and strong dollar on hawkish US data may cap sharp gains," Choudhary said. Traders may take cues from durable goods orders and revised consumer sentiment data from the US. USD-INR spot price is expected to trade in a range of Rs 82.80 to Rs 83.30, Choudhary added. On the domestic equity market front, benchmark equity indices scaled new peaks in intra-day trade before ending flat. The 30-share Sensex declined 7.65 points, or 0.01 per cent, to settle at 75,410.39 points, and Nifty fell 10.55 points, or 0.05 per cent, to close at 22,957.10 points. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital markets on Thursday, as they purchased shares worth Rs 4,670.95 crore, according to exchange data.

Forex traders said rupee is likely to trade with a negative bias on risk aversion in global markets. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 83.10 against the US dollar and moved in a range of 83.05 to 83.13 in the day trade. The rupee finally settled at 83.12 (provisional) against the US dollar, down 2 paise from its previous close. On Friday, the rupee edged lower by 1 paisa to settle at an all-time low of 83.10 against the US dollar, weighed down by a negative trend in domestic equities, and foreign fund outflows. The Indian rupee depreciated on a surge in crude oil prices and selling pressure by foreign investors. However, the weak tone in US dollar and positive domestic markets cushioned the downside, said Anuj Choudhary - Research Analyst at Sharekhan by BNP Paribas. The US dollar declined after the Chinese central bank reduced a key rate by 10 basis points to 3.45 per cent to stimulate the economy leading to risk on sentiments. "We expect the rupee to trade with a negative bias on rising global crude oil prices and overall strength in the US dollar amid the hawkish US Federal Reserve. However, positive domestic markets and any intervention by the Reserve Bank of India may support rupee at lower levels. USDINR spot price is expected to trade in a range of Rs 82.80 to Rs 83.50," Choudhary added. Most investors will be taking cues from the BRICS summit and the Jackson Hole Symposium, traders said. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.14 per cent to 103.23. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, advanced 0.64 per cent to USD 85.34 per barrel. On the domestic equity market front, the 30-share BSE Sensex closed 267.43 points or 0.41 per cent higher at 65,216.09. The broader NSE Nifty advanced 83.45 points or 0.43 per cent to 19,393.60. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Friday as they offloaded shares worth Rs 266.98 crore, according to exchange data. Meanwhile, India's foreign exchange reserves jumped USD 708 million to USD 602.161 billion for the week ended August 11, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said on Friday. This is the first increase in the kitty after declining for three consecutive weeks. In the previous week, the overall reserves had declined USD 2.417 billion to USD 601.453 billion.

It finally ended at 81.56 (provisional), registering a rise of 18 paise over its previous close. On Tuesday, the rupee settled at 81.74 against the US dollar. "<keyword id="91748" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="indian-rupee" source="Orion">Indian Rupee</keyword> appreciated on Wednesday extending gains of the previous day on foreign inflows from bonds selling...and overall weakness in crude oil prices," said Anuj Choudhary - Research Analyst at Sharekhan by BNP Paribas. However, FII outflows and recovery in US Dollar capped sharp gains. Choudhary further noted that the dollar gained as traders are adjusting their positions ahead of US CPI inflation data. The dollar also gained on safe-haven appeal as the <keyword id="6354424" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="world-bank" source="Orion">World Bank</keyword> trimmed the 2023 global GDP forecast to 1.7 per cent citing the Russia-Ukraine conflict, inflation and higher interest rates as the main reasons. "We expect the Rupee to trade with a positive bias amid risk-on sentiments and weak crude oil prices. However, sustained outflows by foreign investors may cap sharp gains. Investors may remain cautious ahead of inflation data from the US and India on Thursday. USD/INR spot price is expected to trade in a range of Rs 81 to Rs 82," Choudhary said. The dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, advanced 0.06 per cent to 103.30. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures rose 0.42 per cent to <keyword id="54123" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="usd" source="Orion">USD</keyword> 80.44 per barrel. Rupee gains 18 paise to close at 81.56 against US dollar

In initial trade, the rupee also touched an early high of 81.27 against the US dollar. In the previous session on Wednesday, the rupee settled at 81.30 against the US dollar. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.09 per cent to 102.26. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, declined 1.18 per cent to $83.98 per barrel. Forex traders expect the rupee to trade with a slight negative bias on global economic concerns. IMF managing director Gita Gopinath warned of a tough year in 2023 for the global economy. The global economy is facing a unique situation due to unprecedented levels of high inflation and that is causing tension between monetary and fiscal policies, IMF's Gita Gopinath said on Wednesday. Rupee falls 15 paise to 81.45 against US dollar

Recovering from its record low, the <keyword id="6355302" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rupee" source="Orion">rupee</keyword> appreciated 13 paise to 78.90 against the <keyword id="6368584" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="us-dollar" source="Orion">US dollar</keyword> on Thursday. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 78.92 against the American dollar. In initial trade, the local currency witnessed a high of 78.90 and a low of 78.94 against the US dollar. In the previous session, the rupee had closed at its all-time low of 79.03 against the US dollar. According to Sriram Iyer, Senior Research Analyst at Reliance Securities, the range for the rupee today is 78.65-79.05. "Asian currencies have started mixed, but currencies could remain under pressure after Fed Chair Jerome Powell said there is a risk the US central bank's interest rate hikes will slow the economy considerably," Iyer said. On the domestic equity market front, the 30-share Sensex was trading 337.14 points or 0.64 per cent higher at 53,364.11, while the broader NSE Nifty advanced 84.00 points or 0.53 per cent to 15,883.10. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, slipped 0.07 per cent to 105.03. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures rose 0.07 per cent to USD 116.34 per barrel. Rupee recovers from its record low, gains 13 paise to 78.90

However, appreciation bias could be capped as Fed speakers remain hawkish on the rate hike scenario and this push yields higher, Iyer added. Rupee surges 19 paise to 75.99 against US dollar in early trade

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 79.21 and then fell to 79.46 against the US dollar. The rupee ended at 79.16 against the dollar on Wednesday. Market participants said that most traders remained cautious ahead of the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) monetary policy due on Friday. "Rupee dragged lower below 79.75 as volatility increased in the market on the back of geopolitical issues which may arise between US-China conflict over Taiwan. More of a panic sentiment rally was witnessed across currencies especially Chinese neighbouring countries due to geographical locations," said Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst at LKP Securities. India's exports dipped marginally for the first time in June and the trade deficit has recorded tripled to $31 billion on 70 per cent rise in crude oil prices. By the end of Indian market hours, Brent crude oil prices were trading at $97.15 a barrel. On the domestic equity front, Sensex fell just over 50 points or 0.09 per cent to 58,298.80, and Nifty fell mere 6.15 points or 0.04 per cent to 17,382.00. "The new broad range for USD INR has now turned to 78.20-80.20 levels and may consolidate within these levels for sometime now," said Kunal Sodhani, Vice President, Global Trading Centre, Shinhan Bank. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, advanced 0.05 per cent to USD 81.40 per barrel. "The overall outlook for the rupee appears strongly positive, with the Nifty 50 reaching an all-time high. These factors indicate that India remains a focal point for investors, with potential for the rupee to appreciate. "In the short term, the rupee is expected to approach levels of 83.00 to 83.10, while the medium-term target is projected to range between 82.80 and 82.50," CR Forex Advisors MD Amit Pabari said. On the domestic equity market, both the benchmark indices scaled new peaks. The 30-share BSE Sensex was trading 51.21 points, or 0.07 per cent higher at 75,469.25 points. The broader NSE Nifty breached the 23,000 level in initial trade. Rupee rises 12 paise to 83.17 against US dollar in early trade

The <keyword id="19949639" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="rupee" source="keywords">rupee</keyword> appreciated 6 paise to close at 83.31 against the <keyword id="19949640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-dollar" source="keywords">US dollar</keyword> on Tuesday following a weak greenback against major currencies overseas and softening <keyword id="20024983" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="crude-oil-prices" source="keywords">crude oil prices</keyword> in international markets. However, a sluggish trend in the domestic equity markets restricted the sharp upside in the local currency, forex traders said. At the interbank <keyword id="136565" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="foreign-exchange-market" source="Orion">foreign exchange market</keyword>, the local unit opened strong at 83.32 and touched an intraday high of 83.26 and a low of 83.36. The domestic unit finally settled at 83.31 (provisional), a gain of 6 paise from its previous close. On Friday, the rupee had settled at 83.37 against the US <keyword id="19904292" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dollar" source="keywords">dollar</keyword>. The <keyword id="21021209" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="forex-market" source="keywords">forex market</keyword> was closed on Monday on account of general elections. "A decline in <keyword id="45185" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="crude-oil" source="Orion">crude oil</keyword> prices and fresh foreign inflows also supported the rupee. US Dollar softened on rate cut expectations by Fed but hawkish comments by Fed officials supported the US dollar at lower levels," Anuj Choudhary - Research Analyst at Sharekhan by BNP Paribas, said. On the domestic equity market front, the 30-share BSE Sensex fell 52.63 points or 0.07 per cent to settle at 73,953.31, while the broader NSE Nifty rose 27.05 points or 0.12 per cent to 22,529.05. "The rupee traded positively. This strength is attributed to predictions of the current government winning the general election, leading to increased stability. "Additionally, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) have been actively buying into capital markets. Soft crude prices and a stable dollar index also supported the rupee. The expected range for the rupee in the upcoming sessions is between 83.00 and 83.50," Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst - Commodity and Currency, LKP Securities, said. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Saturday, as they sold shares worth Rs 92.95 crore, according to exchange data. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.07 per cent to 104.38. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, declined 0.97 per cent to USD 82.90 per barrel.

Rupee rises 6 paise against US dollar as crude oil prices ease

Earlier this month, rupee had touched a record high of 83.18 against the dollar. The investors' dim outlook on China and also on the overall global economy has impacted the rupee. Rupee's fate will also depend on the crucial Federal Reserve meeting on November 2, market watchers said. In addition to this, the ECB's soft comments drove market views that central banks will likely moderate the pace of monetary tightening. This was more so, after the Bank of Canada surprisingly announced a smaller-than-expected rate hike. Rupee touches 82.72 against dollar before closing at 82.63

The <keyword id="19949639" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rupee" source="keywords">rupee</keyword> appreciated 5 <keyword id="20045456" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="paise" source="keywords">paise</keyword> to 83.54 against the <keyword id="19949640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-dollar" source="keywords">US dollar</keyword> in early trade on Wednesday, boosted by positive sentiments in the domestic <keyword id="19911354" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="equity-market" source="keywords">equity market</keyword>. <keyword id="20024982" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="forex-traders" source="keywords">Forex traders</keyword> said rupee is trading in a narrow range as all eyes are on the US May CPI print and the Fed rate decision on the global front and India's Consumer Price Index (CPI) on the domestic front. Moreover, the strength of the American currency in the overseas market and elevated crude oil prices weighed on the local unit and restricted the upmove. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 83.56 and gained further to trade at 83.54 against the greenback in initial deals, registering an increase of 5 paise from its previous closing level. On Tuesday, the rupee settled for the day lower by 9 paise at 83.59 against the US dollar. "The <keyword id="20045514" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-rupee" source="keywords">Indian rupee</keyword> has remained steady despite a strengthening US Dollar driven by rising US bond yields and diminished expectations of Fed rate cuts following robust US employment figures," CR Forex Advisors MD Amit Pabari said. Pabari further said that falling fiscal deficits, stronger growth and reduced political uncertainties, with Narendra Modi's coalition government taking charge, have provided some support for the rupee. "The Reserve Bank of India, armed with substantial reserves of USD 651 billion, stands ready to intervene to prevent significant rupee depreciation," he said. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading 0.03 per cent higher at 105.25. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, rose 0.41 per cent to USD 82.26 per barrel. On the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex was trading 269.20 points, or 0.35 per cent higher at 76,725.79 points. The broader NSE Nifty advanced 92.60 points or 0.4 per cent to 23,357.45 points in initial trade. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Tuesday, selling shares worth Rs 111.04 crore, according to exchange data.
