Popular comedy drama series "<keyword id="19926911" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Panchayat" source="keywords">Panchayat</keyword>" will return with its third season on May 28, streaming service <keyword id="19925152" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prime-Video" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Prime Video" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Prime Video">Prime Video</keyword> announced on Thursday. <keyword id="19932418" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jitendra-Kumar" source="keywords">Jitendra Kumar</keyword>, Neena Gupta, Raghubir Yadav, Faisal Malik, Chandan Roy, and Sanvikaa are reprising their roles in season three, which is directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra and written by Chandan Kumar. The latest chapter of the show, created by The Viral Fever (TVF), will premiere in Hindi, with dubs in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada, a streamer said in a press release. "Panchayat" revolves around Abhishek Tripathi (Jitendra Kumar), an engineering graduate who for lack of a better job option, joins as secretary of a panchayat office in a remote village named Phulera in Uttar Pradesh. The eight-episode series, which premiered with its first season in April 2020, was an instant hit on Prime Video and garnered overwhelming response leading to a second season that came out in May 2022. "'Panchayat' is one of the most loved Indian Amazon Originals, resonating not only with audiences in India but also across the globe. The love for this heartwarming comedy lies in its simplistic narrative that's rooted in the slow-paced village life and is tightly woven through its satirical treatment of the daily issues faced by the residents of Phulera. 'Panchayat' season three to come out on Prime Video on May 28

<keyword id="2088138" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="ScoopWhoop">ScoopWhoop</keyword>, the internet media and news company based in Delhi, ended up in a legal soup after a former employee accused co-founder <keyword id="4408408" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="suparn-pandey">Suparn Pandey</keyword> of <keyword id="16048" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="sexual-harassment">sexual harassment</keyword>. 
 
It was only last month that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/latest/arunabh-kumar-booked-for-molestation-not-yet-arrested/articleshow/57912353.cms">Arunabh Kumar</a>, CEO and founder of digital media company <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/small-business/people/The-Man-behind-Tu-Beer-Hai/articleshow/51024338.cms">The Viral Fever</a> (<keyword id="6400882" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="TVF">TVF</keyword>), was booked by Mumbai Police on similar charges.

The complaint was filed at Vasant Kunj (South) police station south Delhi last month, in which the woman, a former employee at ScoopWhoop alleged that Pandey touched her inappropriately and sent her suggestive videos. 
 
Pandey has been booked for sexual harassment, using word or gesture to outrage the modesty of a woman and criminal intimidation. 
 
The complainant has also said that she reported the matter to the office administration, but no action was taken.

In an official statement, ScoopWhoop said, "We are extending full cooperation to the police to conduct a full and fair investigation into the matter." 
 
"ScoopWhoop strongly condemns any kind of harassment at the workplace. We work towards ensuring a safe and secure workplace for all our employees and take any complaints of harassment extremely seriously...We are fully prepared to accept the findings of the investigations and dutifully take the necessary action if found guilty," the statement said.

ScoopWhoop founder Suparn Pandey accused of sexual harassment by former employee; FIR filed

The Mumbai police have booked <keyword id="1362593" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arunabh-Kumar">Arunabh Kumar</keyword>, founder and CEO of <keyword id="2203882" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="web-entertainment">web entertainment</keyword> firm '<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/small-business/lifestyle/TVF-Founder-Arunabh-Kumar-requested-his-college-senior-Sundar-Pichai-for-a-special-appearance-in-TVF-Pitchers-during-his-IIT-KGP-visit/articleshow/56515136.cms">The Viral Fever</a>', in alleged <keyword id="16048" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="sexual-harassment">sexual harassment</keyword> case. 
 
As per police spokesperson DCP Ashwini Sanap, Kumar has been booked under sections 354 A (causing sexual harassment) and 509 (insult the modesty of a woman by indecent words, gesture or acts) of Indian Penal Code by Andheri police station. Sanap refused to disclose the details of the person who lodged the FIR. 
 
However, Kumar has not yet been arrested.

 It was earlier this month that the case came to light, when an anonymous woman going by the name of Indian Fowler alleged sexual harassment by Kumar when she worked at TVF between 2014 and 2016. After the blog post, several women on <keyword id="6354632" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Social-media">social media</keyword> <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/harassment-at-tvf-more-women-open-up-against-founder-arunabh-kumar/articleshow/57632736.cms">made similar allegations</a> on Kumar.

Arunabh Kumar booked for molestation; not yet arrested

If you are on social media, you are probably aware of the <keyword id="16048" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="sexual-harassment">sexual harassment</keyword> allegations that a former employee of <keyword id="1475478" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="digital-media-startup">digital media startup</keyword> TVF (The Viral Fever) has put on co-founder <keyword id="1362593" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arunabh-Kumar">Arunabh Kumar</keyword> in her blog. 
 
The case, which earlier could have been rubbished because of the anonymity of the writer, has now taken a solid turn. More women have now claimed that they too faced similar harassment from Kumar. 
 
The blog was published on Medium, which is an online platform for independent writers, and the writer claimed that she was a former employee at the Mumbai-based startup. In her blog, she details how she was subjected to unwelcome advances during her two-year stint at the TVF office, which she eventually quit. 
 
TVF, on the other hand, has denied all the allegations, calling them “ludicrous and defamatory” and “categorically false, baseless and unverified”. 
 
The blog titled “The Indian Uber- That is TVF”, is similar to one written by former Uber employee Susan Fowler, in which she detailed sexual harassment that she faced at Uber’s office. The writer chose to remain anonymous and used the pen name, Indian Fowler.

After the blog went viral, other women who had worked with TVF either as employees or freelancers, claimed to have faced similar situations. 
 
“Many women have been uncomfortable while working with him (Arunabh Kumar), especially during one-on-one interactions,” a former employee told ET on the condition of anonymity. 
 
“The problem is, many women won’t speak out because TVF is a big deal now and trying to mess around and accuse Arunabh of sexual harassment could affect job opportunities in the creative media startup or production house space in Mumbai,” the person said. 
 
The thing about TVF being a big deal is especially true, since Contagious Online Media Networks, which runs TVF and TVF Play, raised $10 million from New York-based investment firm Tiger Global Management in late 2015, and was valued at close to Rs 400 crore.

Harassment at TVF: more women open up against founder Arunabh Kumar

The Indian working woman is a celebrated reality in our country and even if many <keyword id="624" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Women">women</keyword> leave their careers before their male counterparts due to various personal reasons, most of us were under the impression that the decision is a voluntary one. Well, not anymore. 
 On March 12, a former employee of The Viral Fever (<keyword id="6400882" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="TVF">TVF</keyword>), which is a known digital media giant, accused its CEO, of persistent “abuse and molestation” over a span of two years which led to her quitting the company, in a post on blog-platform Medium. 
 This anonymous account by the ‘Indian Fowler’ inspired by <keyword id="4194464" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="susan-fowler">Susan Fowler</keyword> who relayed her sexist experience at Uber, was dismissed by TVF on the same post on Medium, 50 other women have since recounted similar inappropriate experiences with <keyword id="6358442" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kumar">Kumar</keyword>, according to a Mid-day report. 
 When a company starts, there is so much going on that putting up a <keyword id="1350015" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sexual-Harassment-Committee">Sexual Harassment Committee</keyword> in place, is the least of the founders’ worries. 
In many cases, there aren’t any women to start with, or start-up with, to really focus on gender-centric issues.

 Similar to <keyword id="6357722" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="silicon-valley">Silicon Valley</keyword>, women are a rarity in India’s startup ecosystem with less than 9% of its founders are women, according to a 2016 study by startup database Xeler8. 
 Women founders or CEOs are even a further dismal number with out of the 670 Indian <keyword id="6362513" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Startups">startups</keyword> that received funding in 2016, just 3% were founded by women alone. 
 The casual workplace culture prevalent in start-ups where some start-ups have no work-hours, in-house bars or even no dress codes does have its pros but the cons, open up like a can-of-worms, case-in-point with TVF’s founder <keyword id="2720760" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anurabh-Kumar">Anurabh Kumar</keyword>. 
 
Sexual Harassment in the workplace becomes more muddled when the formal boundaries are crossed, easily in the case of start-ups. 
This startup work culture doesn’t seem to change in many start-ups even when they grow multitudes in size and popularity, which is relayed in their aggressive stance to harassment claims.

“We will leave no stone unturned to find the author of the article and bring them to severe justice for making such false allegations.’’ TVF wrote in response that created more backlash on the issue. 
 
TVF and its employees remained skeptical about Indian Fowler’s claims, and did not change it’s discouraging stand; the severity of the situation increased as allegations came from women in the open on Facebook. 
 
How to handle the situation, badly starring TVF 
 According to the <keyword id="1947111" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vishaka-guidelines">Vishaka Guidelines</keyword> which is a set of mandatory guidelines on sexual harassment in the workplace, the complaint should be handled by an <keyword id="1366726" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Internal-Complaints-Committee">Internal Complaints Committee</keyword>, which every organization that hires more than 10 employees must have. Most start-ups do not have this committee in place and if reports are to be believed then, TVF doesn’t even have a proper HR department. 
 
Ideally, if a corporate company does have an Internal Complaints Committee, the complaints should be addressed by them internally and action should be taken according to H.R. policies. 
 
This committee should be headed by a woman and at least half of the committee should be female. 
 <keyword id="1324890" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nidhi-Bisht">Nidhi Bisht</keyword> from TVF was the only person from the company who suggested that an investigation will be conducted after more women started emerging with their horrendous experiences in the company. This suggestion hasn't be confirmed by TVF anywhere. 
 
Sexual Harassment cases are shocking but they’re definitely not new and such cases prompted the country to pass the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act in 2013 but the implementation of the law remains lukewarm with the harshest penalty a molester may face is losing his job. 
 
According to an FICCI-EY November 2015 report, 36% of Indian companies and 25% among MNCs are not compliant with the Sexual Harassment Act, 2013 and this is the corporate reality today.

 <keyword id="1362593" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arunabh-Kumar">Arunabh Kumar</keyword> response to the allegations was simply of that of an entitled influential man comfortable in the patriarchal society who thinks he has done nothing wrong: “The kind of insinuations the FB post makes are untrue. I am a heterosexual, single man and when I find a woman sexy, I tell her she’s sexy. I compliment women. Is that wrong? Having said that, I am very particular about my behavior – I will approach a woman, but never force myself.” 
 
The Vishaka Guidelines state that creating a sexist environment and passing lewd or sexist comments including jokes also constitute sexual harassment. Maybe the ‘cool’ start-ups need to realize that this isn’t the college canteen anymore where they sat around and ‘checked out’ girls, this is the workplace. 
 
If they’re made uncomfortable, the guidelines state that in such cases, women should be given an option to shift to other office branches or be granted to take leave up to a period of about three months. 
 
In start-ups, who are very small usually ranging from 10 to 100 employees, their decisions revolve around what their founders think is ‘fitting to the company’s culture’ which is more often than not, relaxed to the extent that sexual harassment amounts to ‘jokes’ or ‘teasing’ or as Kumar says, complimenting someone, even if all they wanted to do was work.

Here are some key takeaways from our first three episodes: Episode 1: PG Aditiya, Chief Creative Officer, dentsu Webchutney and Pooja Manek, creative director, dentsu Webchutney Bengaluru Dentsu Webchutney in 2021 was the highest scoring Indian agency at the Cannes Lions this year, for the second year in a row. This year, the agency got 20 shortlists, bringing home a total of 7 Lions. So we tried to understand what storytelling means for this dynamic young agency. Mediums and Creativity Both PG Aditiya, Chief Creative Officer, dentsu Webchutney and Pooja Manek, creative director, dentsu Webchutney have been responsible for crafting some of the agency’s most-loved campaigns over the last few years. We got to talking to them about how writing for the internet has impacted long-form writing and Aditiya started off with, “If long copy was Julius Caesar, then the internet is Brutus, with the last stab.” And truly, the internet has often been accused of killing long copy. However, Aditiya feels it has given birth to a new writing aesthetic. Today it is not simply about crafting a great video, it could be about writing that perfect tweet or creating that engaging reel. “We have a joke within the team, that if a tweet is taking more than 15 minutes, its not worth it. There are so many trends everyday and at times, brands try too hard to get the most manufactured tweet with very engineered writing. And that’s when you get caught. We all make the mistake of thinking that the younger audience, especially Gen Z, are kids. But honestly, it's time to consider them as grownups and trying too hard comes across as a red flag for them,” explained Manek. What works today On what works in today’s world, Manek says, “Today, it’s no longer about something that is embraced and enjoyed. It is more about what travels. For GenZ, it is usually quid pro quo, you have to give them something for them to give you something back. It's no longer about hard selling, or over-engineering, it's about giving them something to chew on, and that’s how you get their attention.” The internet is also an ephemeral medium. So how does one create engaging stories for the medium? “We try to spend less time on the theory of it and just make sure that whenever one of us has something that's worth not letting go of, we try to make it work,” added Aditiya. User-Generated Content: The Secret Sauce The advent of social media has also given consumers a voice today and user generated content has become an important tool for many brands. Webchutney has come up with a lot of social media campaigns that have gone on to generate UGC, making brands the talk of the town and part of a lot of trends. Talking about one such campaign they did for Tinder, Manek said, “For Tinder’s Valentine’s Day campaign, we were doing something around moving on. We were thinking of a few ideas and we realized that the digital age has made it harder for us to move on because you might want to move on but then you get reminders on different platforms. We all have so many pictures stored on our phones that we don’t delete maybe because we are attached to the memory, or we look good. So we launched a photoshopping service for two days and asked people what they wanted to replace their exes with. And we kept getting requests and replaced people with pizzas or wine. So we ended up photoshopping pictures for close to 36 hours, and that’s the power of UGC. We couldn’t have done it without people actually sharing those pictures. So you give the consumer something which is worth it and you just empower them and then magic happens.” Aditiya said that this idea also busted the myth that you need some kind of incentive to make a UGC campaign work because at the end of it, consumers were not exactly winning something but were simply ‘Axing their Exes’. In our 2nd episode, we caught up with Das who talked to us about his storytelling journey and how he has evolved as a storyteller, with the evolution of mediums and consumers. He tells us that his love for storytelling started as a child, when his mom would tell him stories from Panchatantra or Mahabharata. “My mother would enact a lot of those stories and I would be awestruck. And when a storyteller is asked ‘And then?’, that’s when you realize the power of storytelling. That’s exactly what we are doing while scrolling social media platforms, looking for our ‘And then’ on these mediums. And I feel, till the time humans are on this planet, the mediums will change but the navarasa won’t,” he said. The Creative Intuition For every creative professional, there is usually a method behind all the madness. For Das, who says he is bad at most languages he has tried to learn, it is more about understanding the human feelings than understanding a language. “For any creative person, it is all about having an intuition, to understand why people say what they say and do what they do. As a creative, you have to have an intuition about what will work for consumers. You have to dream of what people want and then create something out of it,” he explains. He also adds that the best way of bringing these dreams to fruition is by realizing that it can no longer be a one-man show. “Gone are the days when people would consider themselves God and think they know everything. That is impossible today. In today’s world, the only way of creating wonderful stories or bringing our ideas and intuitions to a proper execution is by ensuring you work with people who are smarter than you,” he added. Finding solutions to human problems Earlier this year, <keyword id="261687" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="leo-burnett-india" source="Orion">Leo Burnett India</keyword> launched ‘StreetEye’, a motorcycle mounted device to help map potholes in real time which had the potential of saving thousands of motorcyclists from accidents and mishaps for digital general insurance brand, ACKO. The agency used technology to solve a basic human problem, and according to Das, that is what <keyword id="35666" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="advertising" source="Orion">advertising</keyword> should be about. “If I were to reflect on what advertising is all about today, I don’t believe in storytelling. It is all about finding human problems and solving them. Once you are able to do that, you will automatically create stories. And that’s what we did with ACKO’s StreetEye. The brand said, we don’t want to be just about insuring people. We want to get two step ahead and talk about protecting people. We didn’t want to talk about the cure; rather we wanted to do something to prevent the accidents from happening. And this is just one part of it. Everyday, we are working with brands like Reliance, Ariel, Tide, CarDekho, Airtel etc where it is all about using innovation to solve everyday human problems. A consumer doesn’t want advertising, he doesn’t want to buy things. If you are able to become a part of their lives by solving their problems, people will come to you,” said Das. And a lot of brands, in the early days of digital marketing, would stick to short videos. At the same time, there are brands that have been part of long-form stories, where they have seamlessly become a part of the narrative. In the past few years, we have seen Unacademy do that again and again, be it with its association with The Viral Fever (TVF) for hugely popular web series like Kota Factory and Aspirants, or its recent talked-about IPL ads. The brand has, time and again, used long-form content to draw audiences into their narrative, and it has largely worked for the most part. To understand the brand’s secret sauce, we caught up with Sonal Mishra, Associate Vice President- Marketing, Unacademy, who took us behind the brand’s thought process and what has helped them stand out. Crafting clutter-breaking stories Over the years, digital has become a highly cluttered medium where everyone is trying to grab eyeballs where there is limited mindspace. So what are a few factors that Unacademy keeps in mind while crafting its stories? “As a brand, we try to be unique and do the unexpected, but at the same time be relatable and believable. The emotions one derives and the value that you add is what stays with the audience for a very long time. So it's very important to be relatable and believable. Having said that, it is also important to tread on different routes that meet the consumer at different touchpoints in their journey. So it's very important to latch on to a stronger human insight to build that consumer connect,” shared Mishra. For Unacademy, the goal is to engage with learners across the countries, be it in the metro cities or the smaller Tier II and III cities. Therefore, collaborating with platforms and creators who can help them reach out to a larger audience has been at the core of their associations with the popular TVF webseries. “Whatever we do is about becoming a part of our consumer’s life cycle, connecting with them by addressing a topic they can relate to. Our recent property Unacademy Unwind, which was all about music and unwinding hit a different chord altogether. Another campaign we did called Mistakes – the Greatest Teacher, did very well. The campaign said that Unacademy doesn’t just stand for clearing exams or being successful, it also stands for the journey you took. These are a few things that have helped us stand out,” she explained. Creating campaigns by listening to consumers Brands that are able to listen to their consumers, catch their pulse and create content pieces around those insights are usually the ones to woo them. Unacademy has been able to break the clutter through a lot of its recent campaigns. So what is their feedback mechanism that is helping them craft their communications? “Its not that we have figured it all out and know these are the secret ingredients that can make a piece of content work. It's a constant learning for us as well. But the benefits of these partnerships, initiatives, associations have been huge. They've helped us amplify the reach for the brand, build trust and penetrate deeper into the country. There were a lot of learnings from our associations like Kota Factory and Aspirants that we would like to better in the next property that we create. There have been a lot of pluses and we are learning at each step,” she added. Long-form vs short content While a lot of brands have been focusing on creating shorter, bite-sized content, Unacademy has associated with TVF and created highly talked-about webseries that have become a part of pop culture. Why did the brand choose long-form content over shorter content at a time when people are constantly talking about decreasing attention spans? “Understanding the psyche of the audience helped us. A strong story is something we mutually work on with our partners, but at the same time, from a brand standpoint, we have always ensured that the product integrations are so seamlessly weaved into the story into the content, that it doesn't actually disrupt the flow of the story and the audience can continue to enjoy and get entertained. So that is something which we are very conscious of. And that's why whoever we partner with also find the entire journey exciting,” said Mishra.
