Happy Teachers Day 2023: Heartwarming wishes and messages for your beloved teachers

Dipak Tatpuje 
 
With more than 30 years of teaching experience, Dipak Tatpuje, a senior lecturer at Satara Polytechnic, has pioneered technology in rural classrooms and trained over 150 rural teachers on how to use free online tools. 
 
Believing that technology can be a great equalizer, Tatpuje says that empowering rural students through technology “allows them not to spread their wings and walk further in life.” 
 
Balaji Jadhav 
 
Another rural teacher who supports technology is Balaji Jadhav. He developed a series of interactive, HTML-based online tests that are now used by over 500 teachers on a day-to-day basis. Balaji is no tech expert, but it was YouTube that helped him learn HTML. 
 After gaining expertise in HTML, Balaji launched a blog for fellow <keyword id="710486" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="educators">educators</keyword> in Maharashtra. Currently, he is playing role of an advisor for five state government departments and trains teachers in 36 school districts about how to use blogs for teaching. 
 
Sarvesh Srinivasan 
 
The next in the line is Sarvesh Srinivasan, director of Bengaluru’s Gifted Education and Research (GEAR) Foundation. He champions technology adoption for personalized learning. In order to help teachers recognise students’ strengths and tailor their teaching methods, Srinivasan ran a 10-month pilot program with Google Apps for Education for middle schools students. 
 
Sangeeta Gulati 
 The last one to champion the use of technology in classrooms is Sangeeta Gulati, the head of the mathematics department at New Delhi-based <keyword id="195874" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanskriti-School">Sanskriti School</keyword>. Her dedication towards education for more than a decade helped her receive the Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching in 2011. She constantly encourages her students to be creative with technology. 
 
Sangeeta says that she finds herself “a stronger, more effective teacher who is connected with her students” using Google Apps for Education and Chromebooks.

Know About The Teachers Who Mentored These Successful People

Prime Minister Narendra <keyword id="6354642" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Modi">Modi</keyword> will address the students from 3:00 pm to 4:45 pm through satellite link and live telecast on <keyword id="6408304" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="doordarshan">Doordarshan</keyword> and the website of the <keyword id="6386485" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Human-Resource-Development">Ministry of Human Resource Development</keyword> (HRD). 
 
Nearly 1,000 students from various schools across Delhi will get the privilege of watching the speech at the Manekshaw Auditorium in New Delhi, which will be broadcast live by all Doordarshan channels to over 18 lakh government and private schools in the country, as well as on radio. Live streaming on the web would also be available. 
 Using the satellite link, the prime minister will also interact with students at National Information Centres in Leh, Port Blair, Silchar (Assam), Imphal, Bhuj (Gujarat), Dantewada (Chhattisgarh) and Thiruvannamalai (Tamil Nadu). However, students of <keyword id="17605" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jammu-and-kashmir">Jammu and Kashmir</keyword> will not be able to listen to Narendra Modi's address as the state government has ordered closure of all the schools in view of heavy rain and floods. 
 
Interestingly, Narendra Modi will also take questions from some students across the country through video-conferencing. Analysts believe the move will strengthen the bond between the Prime Minister and millions of students of the nation.

PM Narendra Modi To Bond With Students On Teachers’ Day

<ul><li>The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is teaming up with <keyword id="10387" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Microsoft">Microsoft</keyword> India to train over 1,000 teachers. </li><li>Under the initiative, every school can nominate two teachers for the training programmes. </li><li>The last date to apply for the training programme is 9 September 2019. </li><li>The training opportunity will open doors for teachers to become Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) and receive certifications on digital technologies.</li></ul>The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is<a href="https://www.financialexpress.com/education-2/cbse-joins-hands-with-microsoft-to-train-1000-teachers-apply-before-september-9-to-participate/1696350/"> teaming up </a>with Microsoft India to train over 1,000 teachers. The move aims to improve accessibility to Information and Community Technology (ICT) tools with its capacity building programme. ICT was introduced in 2004 by the Indian government to promote computer-aided learning via labs and digital tools. The initiative will help teachers to blend in technology with the learning process. The training opportunity will open doors for teachers to become Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) and receive certifications on digital technologies. Under this, every school can nominate two teachers for the training. CBSE teams up with Microsoft to train 1,000 teachers to boost computer-aided learning

Tuesday, May 5 is <a href="http://www.nea.org/grants/teacherday.html">National Teacher Appreciation Day</a>, celebrated each year on the Tuesday of the first full week of May. To honor the day, the Bureau of Labor Statistics highlighted how much elementary school teachers (not including special <keyword id="6355445" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Education">education</keyword> teachers) <a href="http://www.bls.gov/opub/ted/2015/employment-and-annual-wages-for-preschool-primary-middle-and-secondary-school-teachers.htm">earn on average in each state</a>.New York's school teachers were the highest paid in the country, earning $74,830 per year on average in May 2014. Regretting that <keyword id="6358883" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Politics">politics</keyword> has acquired a bad name and is scaring away good people, <keyword id="71" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Prime-Minister">Prime Minister</keyword> <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> today asked people from all walks of life to join it and not be apprehensive about it. 
 
In his second interaction with students on Teachers' Day celebration after becoming the PM, Modi gave a pep talk asking students not to get deterred by failure in pursuit of their goals while advising parents to refrain from foisting their own career choices on children. 
 
Encouraging students to develop leadership qualities, the PM said he has asked the HRD Ministry to award aptitude certificates rather than character certificates, relflecting the overall personality of students when they leave school. 
 
During a candid interaction with students, Modi lamented, "Politics has acquired a bad name in the country. People fear, they cannot come here and that good people should not join it. This has hurt the country much," he said. 
 
A relaxed Modi responded to a range of questions including on his school days and dress sense during his 105-minute interaction with 800 students and 60 teachers from schools in Delhi who participated in the event at the Manekshaw auditorium here. Students from nine other states joined the programme through video conference. 
 
In democracy, political parties are an important constituent and it is crucial that good, intelligent and talented people from all spheres participate. The more good people join, the better it will be for the nation. 
 "When <keyword id="6355532" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mahatma-Gandhi">Mahatma Gandhi</keyword> spearheaded the freedom movement, people from all walks participated. Therefore, the independence movement was very powerful," he said. 
 
Modi also called upon the bright minds from various professions to devote at least one hour a week or 100 hours annually to teaching students, infusing a new strength in the area of education. 
 
However, he in a lighter vein added that politicians should not do so as they would end up "teaching something else". 
 
When a student from Goa asked him about his favourite sport, Modi quipped, "We all know the games politicians play." He went on to narrate how as a youngster in a family with limited means, he did not pursue any dedicated sport but had learnt how to climb trees. 
 
He had also learnt swimming while going to the village pond to wash his clothes.

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Brett Kopf, the 27-year old founder and CEO of classroom communication app Remind, always felt incompetent in school.
Growing up with dyslexia (developmental reading disorder) and attention deficit disorder (ADD), Kopf would often get taken out of class to finish exams in a quiet room. When reading an essay, he would get a special machine that covered the bottom part of the book because he could only read one line at a time. He struggled to keep up with all the homework due dates.
It wasn't until he met a teacher named Mrs. Whitefield in high school that he was able to regain his confidence. She would sit for hours with him after school, reviewing his essays. Having that relationship with a teacher who was patient and really cared about him drastically improved his grades.
"When I first started the company, I thought to myself, if I could make the Ms. Whitefields of the world more efficient and help them as teachers, it could have an enormous impact on the education system," Kopf told Business Insider.
But it was only after he got into college that his vision for a classroom communication app really started to materialize. Overwhelmed with all the class syllabi and due dates, Kopf one day told his brother, David, he wished there was a way to get reminders before assignments were due. With very basic coding knowledge, David came up with a simple, Excel-based, SMS notification program that would send text messages before an exam or an assignment was due.
The program worked so well that Kopf was able to sign up roughly 2,000 students from his college by late 2010. He says students would constantly thank him for coming up with such a cool idea. But after two years, the growth stalled and the Kopf brothers realized it wasn't going anywhere. They decided to shut it down.
But they still believed in the idea of a classroom communication app. So they joined Imagine K12, a startup incubator focused on education tech. It was there where they learned the basic fundamentals of a successful business: build a simple product; talk to users; and solve someone's problem.
While David was busy learning how to code, locking himself in a room for 16 hours a day, Brett went out to meet teachers and hear what their real needs were. He would search for hundreds of teachers on Google and Twitter, and just try to learn what they were using in the classroom to communicate. He quickly realized things were very archaic. For example, some teachers were attaching a sticky note on the student's shoulder after school that said, "Homework's due tomorrow."
So they started with the basic idea of alerting students of homework or exams. At first, David wasn't completely sold on the idea. But after overhearing Brett's Skype call with a teacher one day, he was convinced. "Brett was holding a paper with three boxes, explaining if you press this, it does this. And the teachers would freak out! They were saying, 'Oh my god, if only you could do that...'" David told us.
<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>So in early 2013, the Kopf brothers released a mobile app called Remind that let teachers send reminders to students and parents for things like homework, tests, or even parent teacher conferences. Teachers can also send motivational messages, via text or a 15-second voice mail, and even run surveys to get instant feedback on things like a field trip. It creates a direct communication channel between the teachers, students, and parents, so everyone could help each other more effectively.
Since then the app's popularity has absolutely exploded. By September 2013, Remind had six million users with roughly 65 million messages being sent. Today, Remind claims to have 18 million users across the country, with at least 25% of all teachers in the US using its app. In August, it was adding 365,000 new users a day, making it one of the top 3 most downloaded apps in the iOS AppStore. It says more than 50,000 people are joining the app every day. Just this week, it had its one billionth message sent - all without any real marketing.
It's why some of the most powerful venture capitalists, including Social Capital's Chamath Palihapitiya and Kleiner Perkins' John Doerr, have invested in Remind. Just this September, Remind raised $40 million, raising its total funding to $59 million.
At first glance, Remind may seem like a simple product that anyone could copy. But there's a reason it's been so successful in the ed tech space, a historically tough industry to break into. There's an enormous amount of data science going on behind the scenes, based on constant feedback from teachers, parents, and students. In fact, Remind recently hired a bunch of data scientists from Facebook who played big roles during the social media's early growth days.
Kopf says Remind is not focused on making money at this point, as he'd rather see more growth and engagement. Eventually, he'll roll out premium features, but for now, he says he's just focused on his initial vision: connecting every student, teacher, and parent in the world to improve education.
"We live in a day where you can click a button and call Uber, or get a pizza delivered in two minutes. But if your kid is failing in school, you might not find out for three months," Kopf says. "And we want to solve that problem."
