Merry Christmas 2023 Wishes and Messages

New Delhi, Foreign direct investment (<keyword id="19946824" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fdi" source="keywords">FDI</keyword>) inflows in India declined 13 per cent to USD 32.03 billion in April-December 2023, dragged down by lower infusion in computer hardware and software, telecom, auto, and pharma sectors, according to the latest government data. FDI inflows stood at USD 36.74 billion during the corresponding nine months of the preceding fiscal. Inflows during the October-December quarter of the current fiscal, however, rose by 18 per cent to USD 11.6 billion as against USD 9.83 billion during the same quarter of 2022-23. The total FDI -- which includes equity inflows, reinvested earnings and other capital -- declined by about 7 per cent to USD 51.5 billion during the period under review against USD 55.27 billion in April-December 2022, the data from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) showed. During the nine-month period of this fiscal, FDI equity inflows decreased from major countries, including Singapore, the US, the UK, Cyprus and the UAE. Investments fell significantly from the Cayman Islands and Cyprus to USD 215 million and USD 796 million, respectively, during April-December 2023 as against the two comparative figures of USD 624 million and USD 1.15 billion recorded in the year-ago period. However, inflows increased from <keyword id="19956313" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mauritius" source="keywords">Mauritius</keyword>, the Netherlands, Japan and Germany. Sectorally, inflows contracted in computer software and hardware, trading, services, telecommunication, automobile, pharma and chemicals. In contrast, construction (infrastructure) activities, development and power sectors registered growth in inflows. State-wise, Maharashtra received the highest inflow of USD 12.1 billion during the period. It was USD 10.76 billion in the same period a year ago. Overseas capital inflows in Karnataka plunged to USD 3.6 billion in April-December 2023 from USD 8.77 billion in the same period of previous fiscal year. Other states/Union Territories where FDI dipped during the period under review included Delhi, <keyword id="19896558" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu" source="keywords">Tamil Nadu</keyword>, West Bengal, <keyword id="19898913" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajasthan" source="keywords">Rajasthan</keyword> and <keyword id="19904807" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="haryana" source="keywords">Haryana</keyword>. The inflow, however, recorded a positive growth in Gujarat, Telangana, and Jharkhand. An official has earlier stated that hardening interest rates globally and worsening geopolitical situation impacted FDI inflows. FDI equity inflows into India declined 22 per cent to USD 46 billion in 2022-23.

The following has been edited for length and clarity.I'm a reproductive psychiatrist and a married mother of three young children.After starting my career on the East Coast, I moved to LA in 2018, took a new position, and started creating video content on psychiatric topics, serving as an on-camera expert with MedCircle, Inc.I began a private practice, providing personalized psychiatric care and psychotherapy, focusing on women's mental health and perinatal mental health. I also now have a digital mental health platform.My husband, a venture capital CEO and entrepreneur, and I share family responsibilities.<h2 id="707c1258-a45a-4d1b-95e9-9e67ec349457">I started my company because I could've used it myself</h2>After experiencing pregnancy, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/i-went-back-to-work-4-weeks-after-giving-birth-2024-10">postpartum anxiety</a>, and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/stillbirth-what-i-wish-i-knew-before-lost-pregnancy-2021-12">late-term pregnancy loss</a>, I realized the care I needed wasn't available to me, which fueled my mission of providing those on the path to parenthood the resources they need for their mental health.I met Emma Sugerman, who had also experienced a pregnancy loss, and we created <a target="_blank" href="https://www.mavidahealth.com/">Mavida Health</a> in April 2023. Now, as the cofounder and CEO, I'm caring for patients and working to raise awareness of relevant mental health issues.<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/working-mom-solo-travel-mom-guilt-2024-4">Mom guilt</a> initially prevented me from starting the company. I felt a strong internal conflict about dedicating time and energy to a new venture when I believed I should focus solely on my first child.After the birth of my second son, I experienced a shift in perspective. It became clear that pursuing this project was not about neglecting my role as a parent but about fulfilling a deeper purpose that aligned with my professional and personal values.While I have considered focusing solely on family, I find fulfillment and purpose in my work. I know continuing to work is key to my happiness, and even though it's challenging, it makes me a better mother and partner.<h2 id="d56eb56b-2167-45dd-a2f2-a7ad1d8f73a0">Here's what a weekday looks like for me</h2><h3 id="fbc13bad-d8f3-47b0-853b-4589f431fe62">5:30 a.m. - 6 a.m.:</h3>This time is precious — I try to meditate each morning for at least 10 minutes, do a quick workout every other day, and make myself matcha every morning.<h3 id="b0e8bad0-de34-4c5d-8b68-5610d3db0e88">6 a.m. - 8 a.m.:</h3>The kids (four, almost three, and four months old) wake up around 6 a.m. My husband keeps East Coast hours, so by 6 a.m., he's busy in his home office.My mom, who moved in with us during the pandemic because I worried about her safety and living alone, is extremely helpful. Our nanny also arrives around this time, helping wrangle our two toddlers and baby while I try to get ready and help them prepare for the day.Once our second child was born, we decided a nanny would be helpful for our family. Parenting is not an individual sport.<h3 id="6b867e7c-a20d-4cdc-a5ef-4289073c7792">8 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.:</h3>After breakfast, either my mother or I drop off the toddlers at school. The newborn stays home with our nanny.<h3 id="ec7d99c7-37a8-4e10-abb8-3d9e2713dd3f">9 a.m. - 12 p.m.:</h3>My husband and I work from home every weekday. My workday begins with meetings. I oversee all our providers, offering close supervision and support on their cases. I also focus on product updates and refining the member experience.<h3 id="8df79240-54c5-4433-9ad8-72ab4a0cee7e">12 p.m. - 1 p.m.:</h3>Lunchtime is a brief break from work, where I try to relax and spend time with my baby. It's my time to recharge and recenter.<h3 id="d203c4b3-e441-464b-beb7-cc815bcec4ea">1 p.m. - 5 p.m.:</h3>The afternoon is filled with more provider consultations, clinical research, creating social media content, or meetings. My husband picks the kids up from school.<h3 id="27b042ac-beb5-4820-96c5-4e222c78bf8f">5 p.m. - 7 p.m.:</h3>Dinner time is family time — I block my work calendar to be fully present during these hours. We eat together, talk about our day, and unwind.Our nanny leaves around this time, and my mom rests in her room. The evening usually involves playing with the toddlers and caring for the baby, but by this point, I'm pretty exhausted.I try to remind myself that these years will go by quickly. This is sometimes when I yearn for the days to be longer so I could spend more hours with the kiddos. Guilt tends to creep in, and I wish I had more to give.<h3 id="1cf989b4-869d-48f6-b2ec-cfd2a9975940">7 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.:</h3>Our baby goes down first, and then my husband and I put the toddlers to bed, usually with bedtime stories or some quiet time.<h3 id="25d878b7-7961-4f54-aaf0-2b8c87def575">8 p.m. - 10 p.m.:</h3>I might spend this time with my partner, catch up on a book, or relax. This is also when I sometimes lose track of good <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/health/sleep-hygiene">sleep hygiene</a> and end up scrolling through Instagram or watching reality TV. On an ideal night, I would prefer to do another 10-minute meditation, and I try when I can, but it's hard.There have been some very tough times, especially when our third child was born, but we also know it's the best time of our lives.<h2 id="6f990ed4-9b65-42ee-8dea-f89135fd0f0d">Communication and planning are essential</h2>My husband and I use shared calendars to keep track of our schedules, which helps us stay coordinated and avoid conflicts. We have occasional epic fails, like forgetting to leave on time to pick up our kids from school or camp.I know my husband doesn't feel guilty. I think it's partially because he's a man, but he also feels very comfortable with all of our different caretakers and that part of the work he does outside our home benefits our family and children.<h2 id="5806e438-54f7-4875-894f-f3a888237ca9">I'm not afraid to ask for help and set boundaries</h2>I don't hesitate to delegate tasks and ask for help. I couldn't have three children if I didn't have other adults in my home helping me mother my children as well as mothering me.I also have boundaries between work and family time. We have a rule not to check work emails while with our children. We've also created family traditions, like weekend outings, to make special memories together.<h2 id="18f4897c-e0e6-4f64-add4-ebde0d3c45d3">Making time for myself is important</h2>I try to meditate daily, journal when I remember to, and stick to an exercise routine that works for me, but I accept that things won't be perfect.There are days when everything feels chaotic, my house doesn't look Instagram-ready, and the balance feels off. Learning to let go of perfectionism and find joy in the moment has been key.My cofounder and my husband are my two critical partners. We each hold the other accountable. The energy index saw a year-over-year decline of 5.4% in November while shelter increased by 6.5%.Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell indicated during the press conference after November's meeting that while inflation is still not where it needs to be, he's <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/interest-rates-cut-wont-happen-anytime-soon-federal-reserve-inflation-2023-11">confident in the progress the economy has made</a>."The risk of doing too much versus the risk of doing too little are getting more closer to balance," he said.However, he did note that interest rate cuts are not the central bank's focus right now."We're not talking about rate cuts," Powell said. "We're still very focused on the first question, which is, have we achieved a stance of monetary policy that's sufficiently restrictive to bring inflation down to 2% over time sustainably?"Additionally, while some people in the labor market, such as many in corporate work, may be finding it <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/job-search-switch-harder-to-get-job-hiring-labor-market-2023-12">harder to change jobs</a> compared to 2022, the labor market is still robust. The <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/unemployment-rate-job-growth-november-labor-market-2023-12">US labor market </a>added 199,000 jobs in November, according to new Bureau of Labor Statistics data published Friday. That was above the forecast of 180,000.The labor force participation rate improved from 62.7% in October to 62.8% in November, which was also the rate back in August and September. The unemployment rate declined from 3.9% in October to 3.7% in November. Wage growth also hasn't been surging and instead has generally slowed, based on year over year changes of average hourly earnings.Despite the steady decline in nominal wage growth, there are signs that the pressure could be easing off on Americans' wallets. A <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/realer.pdf">news release from BLS</a> on Tuesday showed real average hourly earnings was still positive, with a month-over-month increase of 0.2% in November, like it was in October. Year-over-year, the increase was 0.8% in November. With another positive data point, workers are seeing their buying power edge back up amid the inflation slowdown.Amid average hourly earnings "slowing very gradually," Julia Pollak, the chief economist at ZipRecruiter, told Business Insider "the Fed will be rather pleased" with the employment report out on Friday."I think they wish they were seeing a faster slowdown in wage growth," Pollak said.She noted average hourly earnings of production and nonsupervisory employees rose 4.3% year over year in November. That comes after year-over-year increases of 4.4% for both September and October.Nick Bunker, economic research director for North America at the Indeed Hiring Lab, told Business Insider on Friday after the release of the new jobs data that the Fed will "enjoy what they see," at least in the short term, and that they will "do nothing in the sense that as expected, I don't think this is going to push them either way in December."Bunker said he thinks the Fed "can continue to be patient in figuring out what the right level of interest rate's going to be over the long term because it doesn't look as though the labor market is really deteriorating" and has found "a good balance" after <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jobs-market-hiring-july-unemployment-rate-2023-8">running hot</a> as the country recovered from the pandemic.Of course, interest rate cuts are likely top of many Americans' minds as they enter 2024. Even though Powell has not indicated when cuts might happen, Bank of America recently predicted that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/interest-rates-when-will-federal-reserve-cut-bank-of-america-2023-11">interest rate cuts will come in the middle of next year</a>."2023 defied almost everyone's expectations: recessions that never came, rate cuts that didn't materialize, bond markets that didn't bounce, except in short-lived, vicious spurts, and rising equities that pained most investors who remained cautiously underweight," Candace Browning, head of BofA Global Research, said in a statement. "We expect 2024 to be the year when central banks can successfully orchestrate a soft landing, though recognize that downside risks may outnumber the upside ones."Bunker said recent wage growth trends seem "very sustainable and consistent with low inflation."He said he thinks the Fed will "be heartened by this and it's probably going to allow them to take stock of what's happening with inflation." Bunker added if this continues, then it would add to the likelihood of a soft landing.

The Fed's last big decision of 2023 could set Americans up for some relief next year

I attended LSU in Baton Rouge for two years and then transferred to the University of Florida.I majored in political science and took out student loans to pay for college. I graduated in my third year in 2018.Six years later, I'm a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lawyer-quit-career-live-in-her-car-travel-2024-8">lawyer</a> supporting both myself and my family.<h2 id="9f6376a5-8b39-403c-92a9-62733f1ce988">I hadn't done the necessary preparation to go to law school</h2>After I graduated, I decided to work for a financial investment firm for eight months to earn money to pay down some of my student loans.While I worked, I studied and prepared for the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/learning/best-lsat-prep-courses">LSAT</a>, which I passed. Then, I went to Georgetown Law School. I got a hefty scholarship, which covered my living expenses, so I didn't work while I was in <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/student-loans/is-law-school-worth-it">law school</a>.<h2 id="03e2d91f-7c44-4c8a-bb4d-7b01acc7caa5">I graduated from law school in May 2022</h2>I studied for and took the Washington, DC <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/new-us-bar-exam-to-launch-in-2026-1033570334">Bar exam</a> that summer. After that, I worked as a federal judicial clerk in the US District Court for the District of Maryland for a year. I then accepted a circuit court clerkship on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, also on the Federal Circuit, which ended in August.During my clerkships, I started a law school prep podcast. I wanted information about law school to be freely available for people like me. I interviewed female attorneys, big law partners, big law associates, and high-level government attorneys.<h2 id="c31fe211-b857-423b-9b7f-c8ddb464a498">The podcast led to starting my business</h2>I was often asked how to get into law school. That sparked the idea to start a law school admissions consulting and coaching business.I now help individuals get into law school, perform well, and get jobs after law school. I wish I had had law school mentorship in my life — there is so much I just didn't know about the process. It's a lot of who you know in the legal field.I started sharing information about law school <a target="_blank" href="https://www.tiktok.com/@toppingthecurve">on TikTok</a>, including the lessons from my podcast. People reached out, and my TikTok grew. I realized this could be a business.<h2 id="e9bf4bfa-c985-45ac-a091-86ba00e75fce">I accepted my 1st payment and made the business official in August 2022</h2>The business grew as I took steps to increase it through marketing, creating more content on TikTok, and telling my followers about <a target="_blank" href="https://toppingthecurve.com/">Topping the Curve</a>.I had a lot of success with my first round of clients — they went on to get scholarships to attend great law schools like Ohio, Boston, Georgetown, and Boston University.<h2 id="7a8bf6e4-221f-43a2-97fc-4341fee7dfec">Initially, I offered one-on-one coaching, charging $150 an hour</h2>Clients could meet with me or send documents for review. I would examine their materials in depth, line by line. In my first five months, I made $15,000.The business grew as my TikTok grew. I joined a coaching group program to help me understand marketing and scaling a business. I learned to do webinars to book more clients and build an email list, which now has over 2,000 people.I eventually dropped the $150 individual sessions and stopped editing documents. I now only offer higher-priced, longer-term packages and online courses.<h2 id="3f19e48c-e935-4b77-b687-73400e302e2b">This business has allowed me to support my family</h2>In November 2022, my parents bought a trucking business that we thought was successful but we later realized had many hidden expenses.By April 2023, the business's revenue continued to decline, from $50,000 to $60,000 a month to $10,000 to $20,000 a month. The high expenses related to equipment and insurance were also killing the business.My family originally lived in a different part of Florida and then moved to Miami for the business — so there are two houses and two sets of expenses. I live in Mississippi, where my circuit court clerkship was based.I started helping my parents and four siblings, giving them $15,000 to $20,000 monthly to compensate for the business revenue shortfall.My law school coaching business has generated over $300,000 in revenue this year, and I was paid $85,000 at my clerkship. Roughly, my clerkship income supports me, and my business income supports my family.<h2 id="f8e1ca84-7c52-4443-875a-2a04a1787aff">At first, I felt pressure to support my family as a female breadwinner</h2>I sometimes worry that my business will stop doing well and I won't be able to support my family. It can also be stressful because I still work full-time while running my business.I've grown and stepped into my role as a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/female-breadwinner-supports-husband-stays-home-2024-8">female breadwinner</a>. I'm grateful that I'm in a position to help my family, and they've told me so many times they're thankful. Even though I support my family this way, I live a good life.They don't ask me for money; I send it when I have it — I'm happy to do that. My mom is still a registered nurse and works full-time.<h2 id="4081f603-8b00-4ce4-967c-f420bd0134d1">I wondered how my boyfriend would feel about me supporting my family</h2>I have a romantic partner, but we <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/married-couple-separate-finances-personal-experience-2024-10">keep our finances separate</a>. Since we're unmarried, we don't believe in pooling our finances until we are.I'm grateful I don't have a boyfriend who is jealous or resentful of me making this kind of money and supporting my family. I won't let anyone else dictate how I live my life.I hope my parents' business can be sold, which they're actively trying to do, as it would relieve some stress.
