According to the Tamil Nadu government, Ola Electric Mobility's group companies -- Ola Cell Technologies Private Ltd and <keyword id="16569309" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ola-electric-technologies" source="Orion">Ola Electric Technologies</keyword> Private Ltd -- will set up the lithium ion cell plant and EV car plant respectively. The Ola Electric Technologies will invest Rs 5,114 crore for making lithium cells and Ola Electric Technologies will invest Rs 2,500 crore for the car plant, the state government said. The two plants will come up in Krishnagiri district. Several days ago, the Tamil Nadu government unveiled its new EV industry policy. Ola group to invest ₹7,614 cr in TN for lithium ion cell, EV cars

The Tamil Nadu government will respond to <keyword id="2959488" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-new-national-education-policy">the New National Education Policy</keyword> (NEP) after a <keyword id="3880652" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="detailed-discussion">detailed discussion</keyword> with Chief Minister K Palaniswami on August 3, state school education minister K A Sengottaiyan said on Thursday. However, the ruling AIADMK's ally, the PMK, sought revision of the policy, by removing the "dangerous" aspects in the NEP and incorporating the proactive measures suggested by the 1964 Kothari Commission. Sengottaiyan told reporters in Erode that he would discuss the NEP with the chief minister. "We are awaiting the details... will discuss (the matter) with the chief minister," he said. NDA constituent PMK contended there were many positive aspects in the NEP, and numerous negative aspects as well. PMK youth wing leader <keyword id="6372434" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="anbumani-ramadoss">Anbumani Ramadoss</keyword> said the proposal of students in classes 3, 5 and 8 taking school examinations to be conducted by the appropriate authority was unwarranted. "Conducting exams for students in Class 3, will cause mental stress and specifically affect students coming from rural areas and lead to drop-outs. There should not be any board exams till class 8," the Rajya Sabha member said. As per the NEP, instead of exams being held every year, school students will sit only for three - at Classes 3, 5 and 8. Assessment in other years will shift to a "regular and formative" style that is more "competency-based, promotes learning and development and tests higher-order skills, such as analysis, critical thinking and conceptual clarity". Anbumani Ramadoss pointed out that the proposal on adopting a three-language policy was unacceptable and said though it was stated that the third language would be based on the student's choice, it appeared that only Sanskrit was given priority and it would lead to imposition of the language. The mandatory entrance exams for college and university admissions would affect students from the villages, he said and called for dropping the proposal. The suggestions of the public and his party had not been taken into account, he said but however welcomed the proposal on the medium of instruction. He also welcomed the announcement that 6 per cent of GDP would be spent on education and the proposal to introduce four-year undergraduate degrees with multiple entry and exit options and abolishment of M. Phil programme. Meanwhile, actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam founder <keyword id="6354603" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="kamal-haasan">Kamal Haasan</keyword> tweeted, "Glad that Education is getting 6 per cent share of GDP in the new education policy." "The immediate focus and reforms needed are in the Healthcare sector now, which gets only 1 per cent of GDP on an average. This share has to be increased to 7-8 per cent if we want to grow as a healthy nation too," he said. MDMK founder and Rajya Sabha member Vaiko said that the NEP was "against pluralism and federal principles" and called for its review. It tried to give shape to "RSS' long term vision," he alleged. Tamil Nadu government to discuss National Education Policy on August 3

According to Ramadoss, if the Tamil Nadu government is firm on banning online gambling, then it need not wait till October/November when the Assembly will be in session. He said the online gambling will result in immeasurable damages to the society if the state government waits for another five/six months. The Tamil Nadu government should draft a law as suggested by the Madras High Court and promulgate it as an ordinance, Ramadoss said. The Madras High Court had struck down the law brought in by the erstwhile <keyword id="41902" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="aiadmk" source="Orion">AIADMK</keyword> government banning online gaming. Chennai, Alleging a scam in the supply of free laptops to the students, DMK president <keyword id="853811" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="M-K-Stalin">M.K. Stalin</keyword> on Saturday appealed to the <keyword id="6359479" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu-government">Tamil Nadu government</keyword> to blacklist the Chinese company and levy a heavy penalty on the supply of the inferior products. He also said the <keyword id="26362" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Government">government</keyword> should stop payment of the ₹456 crore balance to the Chinese company. According to Stalin, the Electronics Corporation of <keyword id="20154" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword> Ltd (Elcot) had issued a tender for procurement of 15.66 lakh laptops for free supply to students at an outlay of ₹1,921 crore. Without naming the Chinese company, Stalin said the company had participated in the bid and submitted two models and test reports on their performance, while stating the price of the two models to be the same. Stalin said that as per the test reports, one laptop model has scored 465 marks and the other 265 marks, which means one of the models is inferior in performance. According to the DMK leader, the government opted to buy the lesser performing laptop model which in turn had enriched the Chinese company unduly to the tune of ₹469 crore. Not only that, one of the tender conditions was that the laptops should have the provision to increase its memory capacity from 4 GB to 8 GB, but the laptops supplied by the Chinese company did not have that facility. Stalin said the government had decided to give additional ₹392 crore for the cost of the new motherboard so that the laptops' memory capacity could be increased to 8 GB. The Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Stalin said the state government has already paid Rs 1,465 crore to the Chinese company and steps are being taken to pay the balance of Rs 456 crore before the electoral model code of conduct kicks in. 'Blacklist Chinese laptop company, levy penalty for inferior products', says DMK president

The Tamil Nadu government has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 59 companies, which will lead to investments worth Rs 35,208 crore coming into the state. The deals were signed during an investors' meet at Coimbatore, which was presided over by Chief Minister M.K. <keyword id="60930" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="stalin" source="Orion">Stalin</keyword>. Agreements have been inked with seven companies in the fields of aerospace and defence system manufacturing, and an investment of Rs 485 crore is expected to be generated through this. Stalin said that the deals are an indication that Tamil Nadu is on the right path to become a trillion-dollar economy. He said that despite the challenges of Covid-19 and natural clamaities like rain and its related issues, it is a great moment for Tamil Nadu to attract the investments. The Chief Minister said that it was the third industrial conference in five months, which is a sign of the state government's efforts to promote industrial investment and growth. Stalin also laid the foundation for 13 projects worth Rs 13,413 crore, besides launching commercial production in 10 projects worth Rs 3928 crore. Government officials said that 92,420 people would get employment through these projects. Stalin said that the government is aiming to make the state the fintech capital of the country, as he released a fintech policy. Stalin also released a handbook on aerospace and defence systems.
