The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has set targets for net zero carbon emissions by 2050. TCS collaborates with Rolls-Royce for hydrogen research programme

As the top management of <keyword id="6357585" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Consultancy-Services">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword> (<keyword id="6357150" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="TCS">TCS</keyword>) declared the quarterly results on Monday evening, everyone was expecting a word or two about the penalty that it is facing from a US jury. However, the management chose to stay silent on this matter, thereby strengthening the rumors that there won’t be much growth in FY17 earnings. 
 
As per reports, TCS has been slapped with a hefty fine of over $940 million in a lawsuit filed by Epic Systems. Considering that the net profit it reported in the March quarter was $936 million, one can imagine the condition that this fine would bring the IT giant to. 
 
Also, this has come at a time when the company's growth (7.1%) has already slowed down as compared to its peer Infosys (9.1%), and that too for the first time since FY10. 
 
However, on a brighter side, TCS has added three clients with $100 million deal size each, along with eight clients with at least $50 million of billing each in the quarter, which makes the investors hopeful about revenue growth.

TCS stays mum on US fine, strengthens rumors about growth uncertainty in FY 17

This recognition is based on an independent survey of 45,000 employees working for American companies with more than 1,000 employees. TCS makes it to Forbes' list of 'America's Best Large Employers'

<ul><li>Tata Consultancy Services, India’s second most valuable company by market cap after <keyword id="6355199" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-industries">Reliance Industries</keyword>, just got hit with its second lawsuit in five years for alleged theft of “trade secrets”. </li><li>The company, which is the IT services arm of Tata, has been accused by the US-based Computer Services Corp (<keyword id="172156" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="CSC">CSC</keyword>) of improperly accessing the latter’s <keyword id="188405" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Source-code">source code</keyword> to develop an insurance platform. </li><li><keyword id="6357150" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="tcs">TCS</keyword> was building the insurance platform in question for <keyword id="1884595" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Transamerica">TransAmerica</keyword>, from which it received a $2 billion contract in January last year. In a response to ET, a TCS spokesperson said that the company’s legal team would respond to the allegations after reviewing them and that TCS would “strongly defend its position before the court”. TCS was building the insurance platform in question for TransAmerica, from which it received a <a href="https://www.tcs.com/transamerica-awards-tcs-multi-year-contract-third-party-administration">$2 billion contract</a> in January last year. That was, incidentally, TCS’s largest contract ever. CSC had licensed its Vantage and CyberLife softwares to a subsidiary of TransAmerica, Money Services Inc, for the administration of insurance and annuity products. The suit reportedly alleges that TCS misappropriated the code of these softwares, specifically the code which calculates the rate of return on products, to develop a platform for TransAmerica. Legal proceedings for the case will take place in the US state of Texas. While it is unclear the amount of punitive damages that CSC is seeking, a previous lawsuit filed against TCS might give an indication of the trouble the IT services major is in. In 2014, <keyword id="1378726" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Epic-Systems">Epic Systems</keyword>, another US-based software provider, accused TCS <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/ites/tata-consultancy-services-420-million-trade-secrets-case-moves-to-higher-court/articleshow/68554532.cms">of stealing its intellectual property</a>. The suit had alleged that TCS employees had stolen 6000 documents pertain to Epic’s methods of system development from a client that licensed the latter’s software - Kaiser Permanente. After two years of legal wrangling, TCS was asked to pay Epic $940 million worth of damages - which was later reduced <a href="https://www.tcs.com/update-epic-system">to $420 million </a>based on caps for such cases. TCS is currently in the process of appealing against <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/ites/tata-consultancy-services-420-million-trade-secrets-case-moves-to-higher-court/articleshow/68554532.cms">the $420 million payment</a>. At the end of March 2019, the appeal was transferred to a federal appeals court in the US. One of India’s most valuable companies has been hit with a second lawsuit for improper use’ of a software provider’s source code

(Photo Source: glassdoor.co.in) <ul><li>A jury in California has cleared Tata Consultancy Services (<keyword id="6357150" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="tcs">TCS</keyword>) of accusations that it used discriminatory practices against American workers. </li><li>The verdict is of much importance to TCS as it depends heavily on engineers in India. </li><li>TCS was sued by four of its former employees, accusing the company for firing them because they weren’t South Asians.</li></ul>A US jury has ruled in favor of India’s IT outsourcing giant, Tata Consultancy Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS), in a lawsuit alleging the company had followed discriminatory hiring practices against American workers. The verdict came as a sigh of relief to TCS as it relies heavily on the skills of <keyword id="729521" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Engineers">Indian engineers</keyword>. In September, TCS was sued by four former employees who alleged the company discriminated against them because they weren’t South Asians, first sidelining and then firing them. The claim was rejected by a federal jury in Oakland, California after a week-long trial on Wednesday, Mint <a href="https://www.livemint.com/Companies/H9NEZCVLxeODbPHFMqr5SN/TCS-cleared-by-jury-of-claims-of-antiAmerican-bias.html">reported.</a> The four employees had alleged that nearly 80% of TCS’s workforce was from South-Asia -- which is much more than the general share of South Asians in the U.S. IT workforce. This was the first major Indian IT outsourcing firm in the US to go under a trial. In its defence, TCS reportedly argued that it found it difficult to retain local workers because of their unwillingness to migrate to other cities in the US, where TCS requires engineers, said the report. There are also cases pending against other Indian IT companies as part of a class action lawsuit including <keyword id="6354512" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword>, <keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword>, HCL Technologies and Cognizant.

Tata Consultancy Services found not guilty of using discriminatory hiring practices against Americans, rules US jury

The <keyword id="2896684" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="UD-Department-of-Labour">UD Department of Labour</keyword> has opened an investigation against <keyword id="6357585" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tata-Consultancy-Services">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword> and <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword>, two of the biggest India outsourcing companies, for violations of <keyword id="2896546" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="H1-B-visa-rules">H1-B visa rules</keyword>. The probe started for "possible violations of rules for visas for foreign technology workers under contracts they held with an electric utility <keyword id="2833389" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Southern-California-Edison">Southern California Edison</keyword>", a PTI report quoted <keyword id="187229" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="the-New-York-Times">the New York Times</keyword>. The power company had recently laid off over 500 technology workers amid claims that many of those laid off were made to train their replacements who were immigrants on the temporary work visas brought in by the Indian firms Senators <keyword id="160817" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Richard-Durbin">Richard Durbin</keyword> of Illinois and <keyword id="707305" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jeff-Sessions">Jeff Sessions</keyword> of Alabama, the report said. Meanwhile, the move comes days after the New York Times reported that hundreds of employees at entertainment giant <keyword id="60299" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Walt-Disney">Walt Disney</keyword> were laid off and replaced with Indians holding H1-B visas. 

	About 250 Disney employees were told in October 2014 that they would be laid off and many of their jobs were transferred to immigrants on H1-B visas brought in by an outsourcing firm based in India, it said.

In the past when spectators would come to a marathon event, you've got a 26.2 mile course with 1000’s of runners. Being able to see your person was always left on chance. But this technology helps track the runners which really changed the sport from not just the spectator standpoint, but also for the runners. To be able to hear cheers from their loved ones at the point where they needed it the most on the course to really rallying them across the finish line, it has really been amazing. That's going to continue to be our hero activation across London and we'll certainly continue to do more with it as technology evolves. We really want to enhance the experience.” In 2020, TCS updated the app to support participants in the first virtual London Marathon during the pandemic. The plan is to use digital innovation to further enhance the event experience for all future races which will continue to be a hybrid of physical and virtual events. This year, around 50,000 runners will take part in the main physical event and a further 50,000 will participate in the virtual event. “In 2020, when the pandemic hit and the whole world was trying to figure out how we're going to move forward, technology became the key across all industries on how we would progress and how we could still keep connected. And it was no different in sport and in marathon too. So TCS was able to work with all of our partners, in particular the London Marathon, to really pivot the live event to virtual and be able to deliver this incredible experience to people interested anywhere in the world. And that opened up the doors to making the marathon really more accessible. In the past, if you wanted to participate in the London Marathon, you had to have the means and funds to be able to travel to London, to be able to get an entry, which is also incredibly hard. And through this technology, we took the race to people while also giving them a taste of London where they were able to hear the sights and sounds of the city while they were running in their own neighborhoods. Through all these sporting partnerships, we started out with a shared purpose around community and improving people's lives. A lot of our race partners are very focused on improving people's lives through running and TCS believes in that as well. Our expertise is around technology so we just tap into our knowledge of technology to see how we can give back to the community and improve people's lives.”

How sports marketing has helped fortify brand TCS

Stock brokerages have cut estimates on the stock performance of TCS after a muted performance in the second quarter. Morgan Stanley has trimmed their estimates by 1- 3.5% with a target of ₹1980 per share. Phillips Capital also downgraded their estimates but expect that growth will pick up during the next financial year as strong deal momentum, lower attrition and strong cash flow kick in. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)’s net profit for the second quarter stood at ₹8,042 crore which is a percent lower than last quarter’s ₹8,131 crore.
