The report suggests that the major reason for the sluggishness in sales of tractors is the uneven spatial distribution of rainfall, particularly in northern and eastern regions. It also highlights that growth will pick up in the coming months on the back of <keyword id="23021373" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="improved-monsoon" source="keywords">improved monsoon</keyword> conditions. The upcoming festive season will also improve the situation as traditionally it is a peak period for auto sales. Strong festive demand could help offset some of the losses experienced in the first half of the fiscal year. The weak wholesale figures in August were driven by private vehicles (PV), commercial vehicles (CV) and tractor original equipment manufacturers (OEM). Retail sales declined in single digits (yoy) for most of the companies. The PV segment saw a low single-digit decline in domestic wholesale volumes year-on-year (YoY) in August 2024, driven by weak retail demand and elevated inventory levels at dealerships, which stood at approximately 70 days. The retail sales fell by mid-single digits YoY during the month. Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the largest player in the segment, reported a 4 per cent YoY drop in total volumes, including a 5 per cent decline in domestic sales but it was partially offset by a 6 per cent rise in the export volumes. MSIL's wholesale market share is estimated to have slipped by 250 basis points YoY to approximately 40.5-4 per cent says the report. Other major players also faced challenges in sales. Tata Motors recorded a 3 per cent YoY decrease in PV volumes, while Hyundai Motors reported an 8 per cent drop. However, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra (M&amp;M) bucked the trend with a 16 per cent YoY increase in PV volumes, and Toyota India posted a significant 37 per cent YoY growth on low volumes. Kia and MG Motors also experienced an uptick in sales. The two-wheeler (2W) segment showed resilience with high single-digit YoY growth in domestic wholesale volumes, largely driven by channel filling ahead of the festive season. Retail sales of the internal combustion engine (ICE) two-wheelers grew by mid-single digits YoY, while electric two-wheeler (EV 2W) sales surged by 41 per cent YoY, propelled by new mass-market EV launches and attractive discounts. Among the key players, Hero MotoCorp (HMCL) saw a 5 per cent YoY rise in volumes, and TVS Motor reported a robust 14 per cent YoY increase, with growth in both domestic and export segments. Bajaj Auto's volumes grew by 18 per cent YoY, driven primarily by domestic sales. However, Royal Enfield faced a 5 per cent YoY decline in volumes. Going forward, the report highlighted that the Commercial Vehicle (CV) segment underperformed during the month, with domestic volumes declining by low double digits YoY, primarily due to weakness in the Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicle (MHCV) truck and Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segments. Tata Motors experienced a 15 per cent YoY drop in domestic CV volumes, with sharp declines in Small Commercial Vehicle (SCV) cargo (down 23 per cent) and MHCV trucks (down 15 per cent). Ashok Leyland also reported a 7 per cent YoY decline in CV volumes, while VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) managed a modest 1 per cent YoY increase. In August, the domestic tractor segment remained flat YoY with volumes coming in 5-6 per cent. During this period, M&amp;M's tractor volumes grew by 1 per cent YoY, while Escort Kubota's volumes remained unchanged compared to the same period last year. The report says that strong festive demand could help offset some of the losses experienced in the first half of the fiscal year, particularly if economic conditions and consumer sentiment improve.

"Oscillation was noticed after 60 seconds into the test and nozzle was blown out near the bucket flange where it's attached with the motor at around 95 seconds", sources in the Bengaluru-headquartered <keyword id="498463" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Space-Agency">space agency</keyword> said. It was supposed to be tested for a total duration of about 110 seconds, officials said. The <keyword id="116095" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Space-Research-Organisation">Indian Space Research Organisation</keyword> had targeted to launch the first development flight of SSLV (D1) in April and may now in all probability have to revise this schedule. "SSLV First stage is a new solid motor...new design. New motor has to be static tested on the ground to prove its performance. If it is successful, one more of the same configuration is tested again for acceptance. If both are successful, no more ground test is required and third motor of the same configuration will be accepted for flight", an ISRO official said. SS2 and SS3 motors, igniters and SS2 flex nozzle assembly, liquid propulsion-based VTM (Velocity Trimming Module) thrusters, propellant tanks and propulsion components had already been realised by ISRO and made ready for the maiden orbital test flight. "We have to identify the root cause of the failure and modify the design", the official said on the unsuccessful testing at Sriharikota spaceport in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, about 100 kms north of Chennai, last week. Asked how long it may take for ISRO to complete the two static tests, the official said: "Maybe six months". SSLV is two metres in diameter and 34 meters in length with a lift-off weight of about 120 tons. ISRO has over the years realised five generations of launch vehicles -- SLV-3, ASLV, <keyword id="6395832" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="PSLV">PSLV</keyword>, GSLV and GSLV-MkIII. The space agency had earlier said the SSLV is going to be a new member of the launch vehicle family. It is intended to cater to emerging global small satellite launch service market. "We are flying an earth observation satellite (EOS-02) on board the the first development flight of SSLV", ISRO Chairman and Secretary in the <keyword id="245720" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Department-of-Space">Department of Space</keyword>, K Sivan said last month. SSLV has been designed to meet "launch on demand" requirements in a cost-effective manner for small satellites in a dedicated and ride share mode. It is a three-stage all solid vehicle with a capability to launch up to 500 kg satellite mass into 500 km low earth orbit (LEO) and 300 kg to Sun Synchronous Orbit (SSO). By comparison, PSLV -- the workhorse of ISRO -- can take up to 1,750 kg payload into SSO of 600 km altitude. With lower per kg launch cost, the mini launcher will have multiple satellite mounting options for nano, micro and small satellites. Sivan had earlier termed the SSLV an innovative vehicle, which can be assembled in just 72 hours. "Instead of 60 days (for building a PSLV), it (SSLV) will be assembled in three days; instead of 600 people (needed to build a PSLV), it (SSLV) will be done by six people", he had said. Chairman and Managing Director of ISRO's commercial arm, NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), G Narayanan, recently said: "the world over there is a big boom for small launch vehicles and that's why we are focusing on that". The US-based satellite ride share and mission management provider, <keyword id="696288" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="spaceflight">Spaceflight</keyword> Inc., has already purchased the first commercial launch of the SSLV (SSLV-D2) from NSIL for launch from the <keyword id="6356967" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="satish-dhawan-space-centre">Satish Dhawan Space Centre</keyword> in Sriharikota. Spaceflight had said at the time that it has already sold out the entire manifest (launch) for this secured SSLV-D2 launch, with spacecraft from an undisclosed U.S.-based satellite constellation customer. This undisclosed customer is reportedly Seattle-based BlackSky Global, which will launch four earth observation satellites on board SSLV-D2 in the ride share mission arranged Spaceflight. The Indian space agency is having a busy launch schedule next year that includes commercial, navigation, <keyword id="24879" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="sun" source="Orion">sun</keyword> and moon missions, said a top official. Somanath said integration tests are happening with regard to the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft. He said the space agency will look at June 2023 for the moon mission. The ISRO is also planning to have its mission to the sun with its satellite Aditya-L1, a coronagraphy spacecraft to study the solar atmosphere, an official told IANS. According to ISRO, the spacecraft will be placed in a halo orbit around the first Lagrange point, L1, of the Sun-Earth system. A satellite around the L1 point has the major advantage of continuously viewing the Sun without occultation/eclipses. The ISRO will open 2023 with the commercial launch of 36 satellites of the UK-based OneWeb, said its Chairman S. Somanath. The first batch of 36 satellites was successfully launched on Sunday. The UK company has contracted with <keyword id="10244841" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="newspace-india-ltd" source="Orion">NewSpace India Ltd</keyword> (NSIL) to pay over Rs 1,000 crore for both launches. OneWeb is a joint venture between India Bharti Global and the UK government. The other mission slotted for 2023 is the launch of a navigation satellite for the country's <keyword id="3341273" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="navic" source="Orion">NavIC</keyword> constellation. They are meant to be low-cost, high-endurance ships that can be reconfigured for strike and anti-ship missions, with anywhere between 16 and 32 cells for vertical-launch missiles.MUSVs are to have a similar design but smaller size, coming in at 45 to 190 feet long and displacing around 500 tons — roughly the same as a patrol vessel. US Navy aircraft carriers may soon be fighting alongside unmanned ships and pilotless aircraft

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Aid from foreign governments and civilians has flowed to Ukraine since Russia attacked in February.</li><li>Much of it has been military aid, but Ukrainians are also repurposing donations for battlefield use.</li></ul>In the six months since Russia launched its renewed attack on Ukraine, the US and its NATO allies have sent billions of dollars' worth of modern weaponry that has helped Kyiv hold the line and, in recent weeks, turn the tide against Moscow.Although Ukraine's forces have benefited greatly from that security aid, they have also put their creativity to work, devising ingenious ways to turn what they have on hand into deadly weapons.There is probably no better example of this than their conversion of pickup trucks and SUVs into <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/civilian-fords-and-toyotas-turned-into-battle-trucks-for-ukraines-forces-2022-6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">militarized vehicles</a> known as "technicals."<h2>Technicals against Russia</h2><div type="image" title="Ukraine Poland military vehicles" height="1333" width="2000" msid="94153948" hostid="261" sizebytes="231810"></div>The Ukrainians have shown remarkable ingenuity in their fight against Russian forces. They have developed an anti-ship missile, the Neptune, that Kyiv <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2022/04/14/ukraine-russian-missile-cruiser-moskva-warship/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> was used to sink the flagship of Russia's Black Sea Fleet, the Moskva.They have also developed a large arsenal of unmanned aerial systems by taking commercial drones and turning them into grenade-lobbing machines that are killing, maiming, and intimidating Russian troops.Within a few weeks of the start of Russia's attack on February 24, shops and small factories had popped up inside and outside of Ukraine to convert pickup trucks and SUVs — <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2022/03/18/ukraine-military-aid-shipments/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">many of them donated</a> from abroad — into battlefield vehicles, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/civilian-fords-and-toyotas-turned-into-battle-trucks-for-ukraines-forces-2022-6" target="_blank" rel="noopener">adding armor, weapons mounts, and decorations</a> before handing them over to Ukrainians.<div type="image" title="Anonymous Ukrainian soldiers with a Cars4Ukraine vehicle" height="720" width="960" msid="94153949" hostid="261" sizebytes="130948"></div>Technicals are relatively easy to make and don't require specialized training to operate, and footage from the ground shows that Ukrainians have been quite creative in using them.The standard configuration of Ukrainian technicals has a heavy machine gun — usually a Soviet-origin 12.7mm or a Western-designed .50-caliber weapon — on the back of the vehicle, but other inventive modifications have been seen in action.In one instance, a Ukrainian unit used technicals to create mobile hunter-killer mobile anti-aircraft teams that could move around and engage Russian aircraft and drones. "Although the air space is still contested and neither side enjoys the crucial air superiority, the Ukrainian technical is faring well against a proper military."<h2>The birth of the technical</h2><div type="image" title="Afghanistan Taliban Stinger missile airliner" height="965" width="1400" msid="94153952" hostid="261" sizebytes="84992"></div>Vehicles carrying heavy weapons and heavily armed fighters have been a staple of modern battlefields, but "technicals" gained notoriety in the early days of the US-led war on terror.CIA paramilitary officers and US and UK special operators started using them in earnest in Afghanistan in 2001. Gradually, the technical became an essential part of a special-operations team's kit. (The threat of improvised explosive devices eventually forced US troops into more heavily armored vehicles.)"We used them every chance we got because they were easy to drive and could go almost everywhere," the retired Delta operator said of technicals, calling them "one of the trademarks" of the war on terror."As far as the best vehicle to turn into a technical, hands down the Toyota Hilux," the retired operator added. During an interview at the <a href="https://www.ft.com/video/1bf5c3d6-fdf1-4a24-975e-c58aa5bb0d1a">Financial Times's Future of the Car conference</a> on Tuesday, Musk said he sees many fledgling electric-vehicle companies taking the wrong approach. And if they view Tesla's gangbusters success as a sign that EVs are a surefire way to get rich, they should think again. "Tesla almost went bankrupt so many times I lost count," Musk said. "To start a car company is mega pain. It is not easy money. It is the furthest thing from easy money you could possibly imagine."According to Musk, the widening crop of EV startups today is taking too big of swings too early on. "What I see with some of these new car companies is that they're jumping in at the deep end and trying to create a high-volume vehicle when they have never made a vehicle before," Musk said. "This is like not practicing your athletic sport and then going to the Olympics. You're not going to win. This is crazy."Musk says startups should start small and make their mistakes early before progressing to higher production volumes. "You really need to start out small, makes your mistakes at a small scale, make sure you've got a lot of reserved capital, and then gradually build up from the dumb things you do in the beginning and be less dumb over time," the Tesla CEO said. It's "extremely difficult," he added, to go up against established automakers who have the advantage of existing expertise, dealer networks, and customers. Rivian and Lucid Motors, two of the most promising EV startups, began shipping their first vehicles late last year. For Rivian, that's an outdoorsy pickup truck. For Lucid, it's a $170,000 luxury sedan called the Air. Both startups have had a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lucid-insiders-ev-startups-ramp-up-production-problems-2022-4">rougher time scaling up manufacturing</a> than they expected, forcing them to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/rivian-class-action-suit-accuses-rj-scaringe-misleading-investors-preipo-2022-3">raise prices</a> and <a href="https://www.reuters.com/markets/europe/lucid-slashes-2022-production-goal-after-missing-target-last-year-2022-02-28/">cut production targets</a>. The new EV player that impresses Musk most of all, he said Monday, isn't a startup at all but rather one of the largest automakers on the planet: Volkswagen. "I think the company making the most progress besides Tesla is actually VW, which is not a startup but could be viewed in some ways as a startup from an electric-vehicle standpoint. So VW is doing the most on the electric vehicle front."

First developed by US intelligence agencies and the Pentagon, they started off as intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance platforms.They debuted in the Balkans during the NATO campaign and the hunt for Serbian war criminals. During the war on terror, drones like the MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper played a more significant role in military and intelligence operations.Armed with weapons like the AGM-114 Hellfire missiles, they were increasingly used for close air support and precision-strike missions, though drone strikes often led to collateral damage, including civilian casualties.Drones could stay over a target for hours and monitor the situation on the ground, providing commanders on the ground and at more distant headquarters with tactical intelligence and awareness of conditions on the ground."Drones can be dirty cheap but deadly," a Green Beret assigned to a National Guard unit told Insider. "A well-aimed loitering munition can take out the C2 [command and control] of an enemy, sowing chaos and confusion. Reports indicate that Ukrainians are using them effectively, enabling small units to wreak havoc on Russian forces.But the Russians are using them too. Zala KUB-BLA loitering munitions, which pack a 7-pound warhead, have been sighted in Ukraine. The Ukrainians have managed to disable a few of them, mainly through counter-drone weapons, such as the Ukrainian Bukovel-AD, an electronic-warfare device mounted on a truck, Nota jamming arrays, and EDM45-UA jammer guns.According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, Ukrainian forces have shot down 85 unmanned aerial systems as of April 1."Drones are proliferating [on] the battlefield, and so is <keyword id="13545176" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="anti-drone" source="Orion">anti-drone</keyword> tech," said the Green Beret, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.There are two main ways that these drones are being shot down.There is the "standard" method of destroying them in the air <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/watch-f35-fighter-jet-score-first-air-to-air-kills-2022-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">with air-to-air</a> or anti-aircraft fire. "We've been using them for a while now, primarily in Syria and Iraq, where the ISIS had a decent drone capability."Two types of anti-drone weapons under consideration by the US are Flex Force's Dronebuster and IXI's Dronekiller, <a href="https://twitter.com/paulmcleary/status/1503704047416754177" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to Politico</a>.The Dronebuster is a compact and lightweight counter-drone weapon that is specialized for use against commercial drones. It uses radio-frequency energy to overwhelm the drone's control frequency, causing it to stop and either hover or return to its operator. It can also overwhelm a drone's GPS, causing it to hover, land, or crash.The Dronebuster is the only handheld anti-drone weapon authorized for US military use. It can be used in a fixed site or as a handheld unit, giving its operators some flexibility.The Dronekiller is a rifle-sized counter-drone weapon that uses radio-frequency energy to interrupt a drone's command-and-control signals or its guidance, causing it to land or to return to its operator.
