New Delhi, Feb 5 () Skoda on Wednesday unveiled Vision IN, an India specific mid-sized SUV concept car based on the MQB A0 IN platform, which the Czech carmaker expects to launch in 2021.This is the first product developed under India 2.0 project and is a part of Skoda's ongoing SUV offensive campaign.Skoda has plans to increase its brand presence and is increasing its marketing expenses three times.The company is also expanding its network to around 200 sales and service centers across India in 150 cities by 2023."We are confident that this mid-size SUV, when launched in 2021, will be a top contender for prospective buyers and will garner substantial market share in the segment in which it operates," said Skoda Auto India Brand Director Zac Hollis.The India 2.0 project, which entails an investment Rs 8,000 crore is aimed at strengthening presence in the domestic market with India-specific car models through a dedicated platform."With the investment in India 2.0 project, we have big ambitions. "Several upgrades are in progress at our facilities to accommodate changes in the production lines for MQB A0 IN platform. We are systematically planning our non-production days to sustainably meet our customer deliveries without any delay," the spokesperson said when asked about the suspension of work at the plant. Skoda Auto Volkswagen to suspend ops at Chakan plant for a month

New Delhi, Nov 26 () Skoda Auto Volkswagen India on Tuesday said it will suspend production at its Chakan plant in Pune for a month from mid-December to mid-January in order to upgrade the facility for new range of products, according to sources.
 The company -- formerly known as Volkswagen India -- had earlier suspended production for a month from middle of October to mid-November.
 When contacted, the company spokesperson said it is taking the step to prepare for next generation of products within the INDIA 2.0 project.
 "Several upgrades are in progress at our facilities to accommodate changes in the production lines for MQB A0 IN platform. We are systematically planning our non-production days to sustainably meet our customer deliveries without any delay," the spokesperson said when asked about the suspension of work at the plant.
 While the spokesperson did not confirm the period of closure, industry sources confirmed the suspension of production from mid-December to align production in preparation of the new range of products.
 Earlier this year, Volkswagen Group India had received regulatory and statutory approvals to merge its three passenger car subsidiaries in the country into one entity which would be referred to as Skoda Auto Volkswagen India.
 The merged entity, which includes Volkswagen India, Volkswagen Group Sales India and Skoda Auto India, is led by Gurpratap Boparai.

Advertisers, on the other hand, will see a drop in viewership for the next set of matches. However, towards the flag end of the World Cup, most advertisers would have received their visibility via the spots in the matches up to the point of India’s exit. The media team may have some difficulty in selling the last-minute inventory which goes at a premium.” On the other hand, Mohit Joshi, CEO, Havas Media Group India is confident that the interest levels won't dip. He said, “India is a cricket-loving nation with a huge fan following for the sport and the legends of the cricketing world. While there are sentiments with team India involved and the loss is a huge disappointment, there are bigger sentiments associated with the game, and as a nation, we've always appreciated good cricket and good talent. As we move towards the semis and the finals, we expect to see great cricket, therefore I don’t see the interest levels going down and the love for the game should keep the viewership ticking.” Sujay Kar, EVP- Commerce, CRM, and Media, VMLY&amp;R India said that some advertisers might be in for a shock. "These defeats can lead to an early exit for India, which would have an adverse impact for brands that have invested their Advertising Dollars and the Advertising Mediums. Without India in the Knockout rounds, the viewership might go down significantly, which means lesser impressions served and lower business impact. Given that it’s peak festive season and there are no big showpiece events involving India in near future, some of the advertisers have invested heavily hoping for a big post-pandemic boost and they might be in for a rude shock," said Kar. Grashima Sahni, Senior Director- Planning and Strategy, Carat India told us about brands that might benefit from investing this year despite the early exit. She said, “With team India seeing an unpredictable early exit from the T20 world cup 2021, the invested brands are reaping lower than what they sowed and expected to reap. Investment in live cricket is more about associating with the spirit than pure media metrics. With the early exit and defeat from Pakistan, the mood in fans is dim. The deal deliveries may match the bought media metrics eventually but the qualitative factor of 'context' the brands were hoping to ride turned flat with this exit. Brands that balanced their investments with festive entertainment buys this season will benefit over the highly skewed and only cricket investing brands.” <keyword id="12452300" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sushil-anatharaman" source="Orion">Sushil Anatharaman</keyword>, Media Director, Gozoop Group said, “Brand who have taken fixed deals like title, associate and other sponsorships will definitely suffer because the reach they would have expected in the next round will go low if India doesn't qualify. However, if we miraculously do enter the next round, then again there will absolutely be no problems for these brands. Other brands who do spot buying will really not be affected by this.” Shrenik Gandhi, CEO and Co-founder, White Rivers Media reminded us that brands who spent on digital media can easily pull back their spends. He said, "Sports marketing comes at a risk-reward ratio, subject to team’s performance. There are times when teams perform really well. Those are the times when brands benefit disproportionately. And then there are times like these, when teams don't perform - those are the times when brands can pull back their expenses. Digital has the power wherein a lot of spends can be controlled on a real-time basis. That may not be the case when it comes to ATL and outdoor media. That's the benefit where there is plug and play possible. Hence, the brands that are investing heavily on digital may not suffer as much. Of course, it's a big opportunity loss because bad performance results in lesser attention and lesser attention results in lesser impressions and lesser impressions results in lesser opportunities to sell and hence lesser advertisement budgets spent." How India's loss at the T20 World Cup will affect Indian brands

Mumbai, Mar 6 () German auto major Volkswagen on Friday launched India-specific 7-seater Tiguan Allspace premium SUV in the domestic market priced at Rs 33.12 lakh (ex-showroom). The new offering from Volkswagen comes with a 2-lt BS-VI-compliant engine. The all-new Tiguan Allspace was showcased at the recently-held Auto Expo in Greater Noida along with other SUVs. The Allspace will compete against other SUVs in the segment including Skoda Kodiaq, Honda CR-V, Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra's Alturas G4, among others. "The Tiguan Allspace is one of our most successful carlines globally and, we are extremely delighted to launch the car for our Indian customers. It is the first SUV that is being launched under Volkswagen's SUV offensive strategy and suits the needs of every Indian customer," Steffen Knapp, director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said here.  Even world's largest automotive group <keyword id="6361865" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Volkswagen">Volkswagen</keyword> is exploring a partnership with India's largest automobile company by revenue, <keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword>. 
 The likes of Kia, PSA, SAIC and others are also queuing up. <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> accounts for half the Indian market while Toyota's Innova and Fortuner head their respective segments. 
 “India is critical for the Japanese parent with 50% of global sales coming from the country. So whatever technology it gets from Toyota will surely be deployed in India,” Maruti Suzuki chairman <keyword id="33298" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="RC-Bhargava">RC Bhargava</keyword> told ET, adding “Nobody wants to miss the opportunity and the size. They don't see the kind of potential growth in any other market like in India. It's just not the growth rate, but the base is also very high.” 
 When Bernhard Maier took over as Skoda Auto's global CEO, he visited India soon after taking over. <keyword id="4581" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="general-motors">General Motors</keyword> CEO Mary Barra has visited twice in less than a year. Ford Motor executive chairman Bill Ford visited India last year to inaugurate the New Product Development Centre that will create the foundation for India products. 
 <keyword id="596" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hyundai">Hyundai</keyword> Motor chairman Chung Mong-Koo is also expected to visit soon to announce the launch of the Kia brand in India. Carlos Ghosn, global CEO of the Renault-Nissan Alliance and a frequent visitor, told ET he has always been bullish on the Indian market. 
With the passenger vehicle market set to cross the 3 million mark by the end of 2017, India is seen as a future growth centre by all manufacturers.

Greater Noida, Feb 12 () India's flagship motor show Auto Expo came to a close on Wednesday after witnessing over 70 product launches and unveils, recording a total of 6.08 lakh visitors over eight days. This edition of the Auto Expo witnessed over 352 product displays from 108 exhibitors, including eight global premiers, over 70 launches and unveils, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers said in a statement. Keeping in pace with the trend for eco-friendly vehicles, the expo also saw launch of 35 electric vehicles, while 15 concepts were showcased. New participants included Chinese players such as Great Wall Motors and Haima Automobile along with Olectra. The expo, however, missed the likes of Toyota, Honda, BMW, Audi and two-wheeler majors Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor Co, which had stayed away from the show. The biennial motor show had kicked off on February 5 at India Expo Mart here under the shadow of coronavirus outbreak as officials of Chinese participants stayed away from pavilions, on a day when China's Great Wall Motor announced an investment of USD 1 billion to tap into the country's auto market. Reflecting on the experience of the latest edition of the expo, SIAM President Rajan Wadhera said, "Auto shows globally have evolved and transformed from being mere static displays to providing a unique and enriching experience for every segment of the society at large. Some of the names include Shah Rukh Khan, Huma Qureshi, Gul Panag, Narian Karthikeyan, Daler Mehndi, Angad Bedi, Nafisa Ali, Designer Gauri &amp; Nainika, Kusha Kapila, Rahul Singh, Soha Ali Khan and Kat Kristian. <ul><li>Chinese car manufacturers Great Wall Motor (GWM) and <keyword id="8533178" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="FAW-Haima">FAW Haima</keyword> showcased their first vehicles for the Indian market in the Auto Expo 2020. </li><li>The news came after China’s car sales <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/fd99301a-35f2-11ea-a6d3-9a26f8c3cba4">tumbled</a> for the second year in a row, analysts are unsure of the recovery. </li><li>HS Markit estimated India to take over Japan by 2025 and become the world’s third-largest car market after China. </li></ul>As if 10 months of straight fall in <a href="https://www.livemint.com/auto-news/india-auto-sales-decline-for-10th-straight-month-worst-slump-in-two-decades-1568010510610.html">Indian auto sales</a> was not enough, car markers like Maruti and Mahindra are now faced with a rush of Chinese peers driven to India by Beijing's one-car policy. Chinese car manufacturers Great Wall Motor (GWM) and FAW Haima showcased their first vehicles in India at the Auto Expo in February. FAW Hamina will also be launching FAW Haima 8S, a mid-size SUV in India. Chinese manufacturer <keyword id="142901" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SAIC-Motor">SAIC Motor</keyword> has been selling MG cars in India for the last one year. Another Chinese brand BYD Auto which makes electric buses in India has also announced plans of launching electric vans. This will bring a new phase of competition in the Indian car market, <a href="https://www.motilaloswal.com/site/rreports/HTML/637169279782980001/index.htm">said</a> Motilal Oswal brokerage. Currently, Japanese joint venture <keyword id="44883" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> and South Korea’s Hyundai dominate the Indian market. Added to that, the market is also replete with German and other foreign automakers like Ford, Skoda, Renault and Audi. And these existing market players too had to resort to price cuts and other measures to clear their inventory ahead of a change in emission regulation would make BSIV cars irrelevant to the market. The Indian government has decided to disallow the sale of cars that do not cater to BSVI norms by April 2020.

 In spite of a sales slowdown, the demand however is higher for those cars which comply with changed emission norms. MG Hector belongs to this category. Both its launches were successful as the bookings crossed 50,000 units in eight months since its launch. Another recent entrant is the South Korea-based Kia Motors, which debuted with Kia Seltos, a mid size SUV in August 2019. Seltos became another hot seller that gave tough competition to Hector. And now, Kia has launched its second car in the market – Kia Carnival. Kia’s cars too are BSVI compliant.

 Chinese auto giants need India A new market is necessary for Chinese car makers as their sales <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/fd99301a-35f2-11ea-a6d3-9a26f8c3cba4">tumbled</a> for the second year in a row. A reason for the declining sales could be Beijing’s one-car policy. Several Chinese cities over the last few years introduced a quota on car ownership, which limits the number of new cars registered in the city during a year. It also states that only one car can be registered locally per person. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the sales dropped almost 8.2% to 25.8 million vehicles in 2019. Puneet Gupta, an analyst at <keyword id="3534353" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ihs-markit">IHS Markit</keyword>, told <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/cdd17dc6-5314-11ea-8841-482eed0038b1">FT</a>, “They have been planning their India entry strategy for years. Finally, we are now seeing a lot of action.” IHS Markit estimated that India will overtake Japan by 2025 to become the world’s third-largest car market after China. And China is keen on reaching out to this emerging market. GWM unveiled its Haval brand of a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and vehicle concept 2025 during the Auto Expo 2020. It also plans to invest around ₹7,000 crore in India in manufacturing plants, vehicle research and development, production of power batteries and electric drives, vehicle and component manufacturing. They are also ready for the regulatory challenges that the market presents. “With the BS-VI kicking in we need to gauge the sentiment. We are preparing for that as we have 10 global Research &amp; Development centres that equip us to prepare anything and everything that is required to bring and make it successful in India,” Hardeep Singh Barar, sales director at GWM told <a href="https://auto.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/passenger-vehicle/cars/etauto-original-great-wall-motor-to-bring-electric-suv-under-haval-brand-to-india/74167013">ET Auto</a>. Maruti, Mahindra and the likes have a new battle to fight – the growing Chinese competition amidst slowdown

<ul><li><keyword id="6374528" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="toyota">Toyota</keyword> will be launching <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword>’s <keyword id="6379565" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="baleno">Baleno</keyword> under their brand starting next financial year.</li><li>Cross-badging is a concept that, in the past, has only yielded temperate results for automobile companies. </li><li>That being said, Suzuki’s and Toyota’s respective competitive advantages are complementary to each other which may play in their favour.</li></ul>A partnership that was cemented earlier this year between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota is bringing their first project to fruition. A crowd favorite, the Baleno will be the first vehicle to be cross-badged between the two companies. In the first year, somewhere between 20,000 to 25,000 Maruti Suzuki Balenos will be shipped off to the Toyota Motor Corporation. The <a href="https://www.livemint.com/Auto/YAsSEGIGNJpjFrNaJzKzdO/Baleno-to-be-the-first-Maruti-Suzuki-car-to-be-sold-as-a-Toy.html">report by Mint</a> indicates that this will be an annual exchange. Once Toyota has the cars, they will be selling them through their own dealership network starting Q1 of FY 2018-19. Their respective competitive advantages are complimentary in nature but might not be enough to solve the dilemma of how successful cross-badging will be in India. What is cross-badging? To cross-badge a car essentially means launching the same car under a different brand with some minor alterations that are, more often than not, only superficial. Even with the Baleno, plans indicate that the car will undergo some interior and exterior changes that could include alterations to the head lights, tail lamps and the front grill of the car. But, here’s the thing, cross-badging isn’t a concept that India is familiar with and past projects have performed the usual humdrum way. And, the Baleno isn’t the end of the road for Toyota either. The company has plans of launching Suzuki’s Brezza under their brand as well while Suzuki will introduce the Corolla under their banner. Mutual benefits This partnership utilises the <keyword id="1700148" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Competitive-Advantage">competitive advantage</keyword> of each company in a complementary manner. It’s essentially <keyword id="1673374" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ricardo">Ricardo</keyword>’s trade theory playing out in real life where one entity trades its most efficient product against its counterpart’s most efficient product. David Ricardo developed the classical theory of comparative advantage in 1817 to explain why countries engage in international trade even when one country's workers are more efficient at producing every single good than workers in other countries. While Toyota has the hang of the executive sedan segment, they haven’t had much luck in the lower-end of the market. And the opposite is true for Maruti Suzuki. It’s not that Toyota hasn’t tried. The Etios was their attempt at cracking India’s most high-volume segment of <keyword id="6381299" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="automobiles">automobiles</keyword>, but alas, the car wasn’t able to make a substantial mark. And, this isn’t only true with India. Toyota may be on the track to become to world’s third largest automobile player with investments all over the globe but they’re yet to capitalise in the densest markets around the world. With the Baleno and the Brezza, Toyota will have another shot at making an impact in the competitive hatchback segment of automobiles in India. More than dominating the market on product alone, economics of scale will also come into play once Suzuki starts manufacturing the Baleno from Toyota’s plant in Karnataka by repurposing the currently unutilised capacity of the hub. And it’s not that Suzuki will get the short end of stick. More than using the Corolla to further expand their market share in the executive sedan segment, Toyota’s pool of knowledge, when it comes to electrical vehicles (EVs), holds greater utility for the company. In the past, a similar partnership between Volkswagen and Suzuki didn’t yield any results. Partnerships have were also pursued between Volkswagen and Tata as well as Mahindra and Ford without substantial outcomes. On the other hand, the Renault and Nissan alliance brought about the Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano SUVs. Even the partnership between Volkswagen and Skoda yielded the Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Rapid. All these cars did decently well in this country. The Suzuki and Toyota partnership can thus work either way, we’ll have to wait and watch.

Baleno will now be a Toyota vehicle

Well, both seem to have done equally well in the annual IPL ad recall research of the Indian Institute of Human Brands (IIHB) conducted ten days after the start of the League this year. The research polled 879 respondents in the age-group of 18-35 years (M=481, F=398) across India. The interviews were conducted telephonically. Dream11 was the most spontaneously recalled brand in this year’s survey, which possibly also helped enhance both the brand equity and recall of MS Dhoni who anchored the 12-ad series for the brand as its ambassador and protagonist. Jio Fiber, with multiple IPL teams featured with an effervescent Ranveer Singh gyrating with a sing-song brand message, came in second on recall in the research, also helping the celebrity endorser to considerably strengthen his personal recall. Byju’s was the most spontaneously recalled brand on the IPL last year; though its celebrity endorser Shah Rukh Khan trailed behind other celebrities. Virat Kohli, as expected, did well on recall too, and came third in the recall rankings. Salman Khan did surprisingly well in this year’s survey and came in at No. 4, ahead of Rishabh Pant, Rahul Dravid, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Saurav Ganguly who followed in that sequence. Ajay Devgn, Sachin Tendulkar, Shikhar Dhawan, Shah Rukh Khan, Boman Irani, Kareena Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Ayushmann Khurrana and Akshay Kumar, on the other hand, had very few mentions and scored very poorly on respondent recall. There were sporadic mentions of Virender Sehwag and Priyanka Chopra too. In the last survey conducted in October 2020, MS Dhoni had the highest spontaneous recall as a celebrity endorser. Virat Kohli was a not-so-close second. Akshay Kumar was at rank 3; Ayushmann Khurrana at rank 4. “MS Dhoni and Ranveer Singh had a disproportionate share of visibility and recall in the IPL research we just conducted. This was in sync with the ultra-high recall of the brands they respectively endorse”, said Dr. Sandeep Goyal, Chief Mentor of IIHB. “It is interesting nevertheless to note that brands without celebrities like Phone Pe, Byju’s and others too have done well wherever media investments are heavy”. IIHB team used its proprietorial CELEBAR tool based on Celebrity Brand Association &amp; Recognition to assign a metric score to each celebrity and associated brand. The tool takes into account: <ul><li>Spontaneous recall of the brand</li><li>Spontaneous recall of the celebrity</li><li>Association between brand &amp; celebrity together </li><li>Recency of communication </li><li>Media weight behind campaign</li><li>Solus versus multiple brands using the celebrity</li></ul>MS Dhoni had a CELEBAR score of 87, up from 82 at the last IPL. His spontaneous recall was an unusually high 82%. His association with Dream 11 was also very constant at 79% from the last edition. He got 9% association with IPL/Star TV, 8% brand association with Indigo Paints, 6% with Orient Fans for Orient Fans and Livfast Solar. 2% recall came from SunFeast Yippee. So, most of Dhoni’s brand goodness got hijacked by Dream 11, much like last year. If Dhoni had only been endorsing Dream 11, his CELEBAR score would have been near 100, given his strong association with that one brand, to almost the relative exclusion of the other brands he endorses. Ranveer achieved a CELEBAR score of 86, empirically almost equal to that of MS Dhoni. But his association was more democratically spread with Jio Fiber at 56%, JD mart at 48%, My11 Circle at 22% and Bingo at 18%. Names of some other brands were mentioned by respondents but these were filtered out as they were not part of the IPL broadcast. Both MS Dhoni and Ranveer gained massively also on account of their main brands spending disproportionately large amounts of media monies which made them exponentially more visible than other competing celebrities. Virat Kohli trailed far behind the Top 2. His score of 45 on CELEBAR is mostly derived by his 94% association with MRF tyres. Bluestar is in low single digits on association. Salman Khan at a CELEBAR of 38, owes 82% recall to Rajshree elaichi and the balance to Pepsi. Rishabh Pant climbed up interestingly to No. 5 on the strength of his JSW appearances. Varun Dhawan had 76% of his recall from Lux Cozi and much lower from Frooti. Alia owed most of her recall also to Frooti with scattered mentions of Dark Fantasy. Interestingly, the IPL seems to be running no/few ads with Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, and even with cricketers Rohit Sharma or KL Rahul or Hardik Pandya, or the media weightages behind those ads were too insignificant to be noticed by viewers. The Cred ad for Rahul Dravid was spontaneously recalled by 17% respondents but only 2% remembered Jackie Shroff and only 1% mentioned Kumar Sanu for the same brand. Mutual Funds (AMFI) ads had 22% recall but most respondents got the protagonists mixed up, with the most attributing the messaging to Dhoni and Kohli. Dream 11’s association with multiple cricketers was mentioned by many respondents but most were not sure if they remembered current creatives. Only the connect with MS Dhoni was unambiguous. Despite heavy media weights, Vimal elaichi ad featuring Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan had only an 8% recall. Netmeds with Kareena Kapoor and Renuka Shahane had a good 9% recall. Priyanka Chopra’s Appy Fizz and Katrina’s Slice were almost not recalled. Hema Malini managed 3% recall on Kent RO. Randhir Kapoor’s Asian Paints managed 4% while Kareena Kapoor’s and Pankaj Tripathi’s Berger creatives both got below 1%. Ayushmann was remembered by less than 1% in Urban Company. Gajaraj Rao was mentioned in less than 1% for Voltas. Unacademy featuring Sunil Gavaskar and Harsha Bhogle too scored poorly at 2%. Gamezy featuring KL Rahul got less than 1% recall. On the ads without celebrities, the most remembered were Phone Pe (32%), Byju’s (31%), Vivo (22%), One Plus (21%), Groww (20%), Upstox (20%), Kia (19%), MPL (18%), Bisleri (11%), PharmEasy (11%), Thums Up(9%), Coca Cola (6%), Renault Kiger (6%), Tata Safari (6%), Skoda (3%), Ajio (3%), Dark Fantasy (2%), LikedIn (2%), Raymond (2%) and Tuborg (1%). As more gets added to the broadcast as the IPL progresses, both standings of celebrities and recall of brands may change.
