New Delhi, Apr 9 () Some of the biggest names from Indian music including Asha Bhonsle, S P Balasubramaniam and K J Yesudas are joining hands for a series of virtual concerts to express their solidarity with the people working at the forefront of the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.The Indian Singers Rights Association (ISRA) announced that it will hold a three-day concert 'Sangeet Setu', starting from April 10 between 8 pm and 9 pm, with the aim to entertain the public and help them deal with the stress in these unprecedented times of lockdown. "The feed for the concert, dedicated to PM CARES, will be available on OTT platforms, Television, Digital and Social channels," the ISRA said in a release. The concert, blessed by nightingale of bollywood Lata Mangeshkar, has an impressive line-up of veterans Asha Bhonsle, S P Balasubramaniam, K J Yesudas, Udit Narayan, Anoop Jalota, Pankaj Udhas, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Sudesh Bhosale, Suresh Wadkar, Talat Aziz, Alka Yagnik, Kumar Shanu, Hariharan, Shankar Mahadevan, Sonu Nigam, Salim Merchant, Shaan and Kailash Kher, the ISRA said."ISRA decided that leading singers of the country will entertain the masses and try to lighten their stress, strain and depression in these tough times. I thank all the artists who have made themselves available for this national service," Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sanjay Tandon said.Moving Pixels Company, XP&amp;D and Be.live have partnered with the ISRA in this effort.MPC Creative Director, Manish Baradia said, "This is not just a concert series, it is a national movement. The feed of the virtual concerts will be available on several OTT platforms including MX Player, Hotstar, Vodafone Play, Flipkart, Jio Tv and Sony Liv," Singh said. Singer Sonu Nigam said said the concert was their tribute to every Indian fighting against the coronavirus. "Every Indian be it an official, a health worker, an essential services provider or citizen at home - is contributing in this battle. Especially the mothers, home makers and sisters at home are bearing the burden and as artists we salute you through our music." Shaan urged people to tune in and donate in the times of crisis."We urge everyone to stay at home. With this initiative, we will be able to come to your homes and sing for the country. COVID-19: ISRA brings together top musicians for virtual concert 'Sangeet Setu'

Even as the overall mood is upbeat after the Budget, there’s something that has left both the <keyword id="6362513" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Startups">startups</keyword> and angels in the country feeling irked. Both have different reasons for their worries. 

	The Angel community, although happy to see startups get 100% exemption for 3 years on profits, feels the Budget should also have ended the unfavorable treatment in investments made in unlisted companies by Alternative Investment Funds and Angel Groups.
 Currently, <keyword id="6365770" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="angel-investors">angel investors</keyword> pay a much higher tax on capital gains while taking a far higher risk as compared to publicly traded shares. Investments in unlisted companies or startups is taxed at 33% for short term and at 20 per cent for long term capital gains, with the holding period for long term capital gains as 3 years. In this Budget, the government has lowered the period from 3 to 2 years. Still, investors feel this anomaly can make the sector look unattractive at a time when investing in startups is already considered a risky bet. “We would have benefitted if capital gains tax regime for unlisted companies was aligned with that for listed companies. This would end the discrimination against domestic venture capital funds as foreign funds anyway pay no capital gains tax by investing from Mauritius and other treaty friendly countries,” said <keyword id="164917" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Saurabh-Srivastava">Saurabh Srivastava</keyword>, a serial entrepreneur, angel investor and VC. Another angel investor Padmaja Ruparel said: “Capital gains Tax exemption in regulated/ notified fund of funds, lowering the period from 3 years to 2 years for Long term Capital Gains in unlisted companies, <keyword id="3269156" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="SETU-fund">SETU fund</keyword> of Rs. 1000 cr, one day registration process for start-ups will all help to boost innovation and incubation. But, we had hoped that treating investments by AIFs and angel groups in unlisted companies would be aligned with the public market equity tax regime.” 

	Meanwhile. Startups were expecting more radical reforms in the Budget. “We welcome the the three-year tax holiday, but the fact that the Budget has retained MAT negates much of the advantages, as we have cash-flow problems in initial years," said Ravi Gururaj, chairman of Nascomm Product Council.

Their newly founded company – Setu aims to build the future of finance. They offer low-cost, modular API infrastructure for bills, credit, savings and payments. With Setu, which works like a regulatory sandbox (a testing environment where new or untested software or coding can be run securely), fintech developers would get a chance to test their technology before going live. “Making every company a fintech company - that is the goal. By making it easy for businesses and developers to integrate with banking and other financial systems, the company’s ultimate mission is to advance accessibility and affordability of financial products for all,” said Sahil Kini, co-founder and CEO of Setu to <a href="https://tech.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/startups/api-infrastructure-startup-setu-raises-3-5m-led-by-lightspeed-india/68822844">ET</a>. They have already launched a product called “Collect” which will connect billers to payment apps, where billers (digital lenders, online subscription businesses, insurance companies, mutual funds etc) can use this platform to accept payments. Both Kini and Kumar come from Indiastack, an organization that provides “a set of APIs (Application Programming Interface) that allows governments, businesses, startups and developers to utilise a unique digital Infrastructure”. The guys behind Aadhar and UPI’s technology now have their own fintech sandbox

<ul><li>The multiplex behemoth now owns more than 1,650 screens across over 350 properties in 110 cities in the country.</li><li>The combined entity aims to open 180-200 screens per year, across formats, in the next two years.</li><li>The merged entity can definitely achieve bigger goals, but needs good content.</li></ul>After the merger of two <keyword id="16783584" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="multiplex-chains-PVR-and-Inox-Leisure" source="Orion">multiplex chains PVR and Inox Leisure</keyword> this year, the merged entity has become a behemoth in the country, and fifth largest listed multiplex chain globally by screen count. While the merger was announced last March, the record date for the scheme of amalgamation between the two multiplex operators happened in February 2023. The combined entity will start trading with the name PVR-INOX on exchanges in March 2023 and their combined financials would be reported from 4QFY23. The multiplex behemoth now owns more than 1,650 screens across 350 properties, in 110 cities. “PVR-INOX now controls 18% screen share (43% share in multiplex screens in India) and 30% box-office share (over 50% share of multiplex box office). The merged entity commands the highest multiplex market share in all key regions of India. PVR-INOX would become the fifth-largest listed multiplex chain globally by screen count with the highest number of admissions per screen (around 127,000 admissions/screen in 2019),” said a report by Kotak Institutional Equities. The combined entity aims to open 180-200 screens per year, across formats, in the next two years. “Capex per year would be ₹8-8.5 billion (₹800-850 crore). Over 40% new screen openings will come from the South as it remains underpenetrated,” said the report. While merged entity gains the lion’s share, real issue still remains poor content While the merged entity can definitely achieve bigger goals, analysts believe the real issue still remains poor content leading to flop movies on screen. “The management has guided for annual synergy benefits of ₹2.25 billion (₹225 crore) at the EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation) level in the next 12-24 months,” said a report by Kotak Institutional Equities. Analysts say that the merged entity has no real competitor and should remain focused on strengthening its position at the cost of single-screen theatres and smaller chains. Yet, there are challenges that all multiplexes will face bringing in the mega footfalls. For one, the Hindi cinema industry itself is facing the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/its-not-bollywood-films-its-the-superstars-that-people-seem-to-be-tired-of/articleshow/92382077.cms">shifting trend and migration of audiences to South movies</a> which captured audiences with larger-than-life characters. Rapid adoption of OTT, proliferation of social media and an active ‘Boycott Bollywood’ campaign and higher ticket prices have impacted footfalls in theatres, say analysts at Emkay Global. “While focus of the merged entity now shifts to realising synergies, the crucial issue of footfall recovery remains moot. Post-Covid, we have witnessed a clear dichotomy in box-office performance, with a high proportion of movies turning out to be duds; we believe the main culprit is the sub-par content quality, punctured by the weak critic and audience reviews,” said a report by Emkay Global. Not star power, alone It’s because of the increasing Southern push that <keyword id="4568700" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="PVR-INOX" source="Orion">PVR Inox</keyword> are planning to boost the addition of new cinemas there. “With Bollywood content not up to the mark, footfalls have not seen a meaningful uptick post Covid. Only select movies with differentiated offerings have managed to taste success at the box office. As we have emphasised in the past too, Bollywood’s recovery is critical to box-office collections, with regional and Hollywood contribution being only sporadic in nature,” said the report. Bollywood continues to witness poor movie performance with most movies including Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Goodbye and Uunchai, Akshay Kumar’s Ram Setu and Ranveer Singh’s Cirkus not meeting expectations except for Drishyam 2 and Pathaan. “Going ahead too, we believe that star power alone cannot drive collections, if there is no differentiating factor in the movie,” said the Emkay Global report. In Q3 FY23, only one Bollywood movie i.e Drishyam 2 managed to break the ₹100 crore box office barrier. “CY22 has been one of the worst years for Bollywood, with very few movies finding traction. A mere 7% of the major movies that were released in the CY21/22 managed to recover their investment and yielded some profit. Prior to Covid, this was close to 30%, with more than 40% of movies doing well in CY19,” said a report by Emkay. While Inox-PVR have a bigger screen presence, they need what it takes to bring in audiences — better movies, bigger hits from Bollywood and Hollywood alike – in addition to South superhits. Now leading investors are turning to Jio Platforms, the holding company for <keyword id="10926" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance">Reliance</keyword>'s digital businesses, to reach its more than 410 million subscribers, it said. "Last year, Jio raised over $20 billion in capital, a testament to the value and potential of its rapidly growing user base," it said. In April, the company announced plans to dramatically expand outside its home base in India, adding one-on-one lessons in the US, the UK, Indonesia, Mexico and Brazil. By Mona Parthsarathi New Delhi, Apr 19 () The coronavirus outbreak has brought the global entertainment industry to a standstill, but veteran singer Asha Bhosle says she is hopeful that once normalcy returns showbiz will also recuperate.The 86-year-old playback singer said India is an entertainment loving nation and after the lockdown people will definitely return to movie theatres and music concerts. "This pandemic will affect every industry to an extent. But I feel that once this is over, the entertainment industry will bounce back strongly. Don't forget that we love entertainment and after being in our homes for many weeks, there may be a tendency to go out to the cinemas, attend music concerts."Humans are social animal and we have survived many calamities in the past. We shall do so again," Asha told Bhasha in an interview.Coronavirus, which originated in central China in December, is believed to have infected more than 2.3 million people worldwide. While most recover, at least 155,000 have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.In India, death toll due to COVID-19 has risen to 507 and number of cases have climbed to 15,712.The singer said in her lifetime she has witnessed several epidemics like TB , cholera, smallpox, plague, SARS, MERS and the current situation across the world has revived those painful memories."I am 86 and have seen many epidemics. We did not have a cure for them or there just weren't enough medical facilities. We survived by homemade remedies. Plague used to wipe out entire villages. I remember my parents evacuating us from affected parts of the country and moving us to safer zones. It was social distancing at that time too."She said while there were no fancy words like "social distancing" and "lockdown" during those times, it was the same principle which saved them."I have also seen several wars including World War II. There was food rationing and the situation was bad but we adapted and survived those days too. This pandemic is bad because the entire world has been affected," the singer added. Asha believes the only way to win the fight against the deadly virus is to follow the guidelines set by the health experts and the government."This virus is different and more deadly and it requires precautions like self- isolation, social distancing and cleanliness. I am happy with the way Indian government is dealing with the crisis. Considering the population and domestic mobility, it would have been worst," she said.The music icon also lauded celebrities for creating awareness about coronavirus and believes their efforts are giving fruitful results."People look up to celebrities and it is our duty towards them and our country. Almost all celebrities have attempted to spread awareness about the virus and I believe this has helped a lot in making people aware and follow the guidelines."Asha was also part of Sangeet Setu, a series of virtual concerts to support PM-Cares relief fund set up to fight COVID -19. She said it was a unique experience to perform without any technical support."Sangeet Setu was unique initiative because performances came from the heart. Without studio facilities or professional recording equipment, without musicians, sound engineers. I recorded my performances on a phone and uploaded it," she said.The singer, who has been in the industry for over six decades, has also recorded for another initiative to bring people of the country together in these times of crisis."It is to bring together the people of India in this time of need and bring about our sense of pride and nationalism in this great ancient country of ours. As per PM-Cares fund directives I also recorded an appeal for people to donate generously to the fund."With all her recordings and concerts being cancelled, Asha said she is happy to spend time with her family during the lockdown."All my recordings and concerts have been cancelled but I don't dwell on what has been lost. Our culture teaches us to accept and adapt to any situation."So, I am adapting too. I look at the positive side of even this horrid situation, example the entire family is together enjoying the simple things in life," she said.The singer said the pandemic has taught people the importance of human bond and also made them aware of fragility of life."I'm calling and receiving calls from friends who I haven't heard from for many years. I have lost a dear friend in the UK and it drives home the point of how fragile life can be," Asha said."I take each day as it comes and make the most of it. When a person chooses to follow a Topic, he or she will see tweets from a whole host of accounts that are experts, fans or just tend to talk about that subject a lot on Twitter on their timeline. When a person chooses to follow a Topic, whether it's their favourite band, sports team or even a city they'll see Tweets from a whole host of accounts that are experts, fans or just tend to talk about that subject a lot on Twitter on their timeline. "The addition of Hindi Topics demonstrates our commitment to diversity of conversations across languages.
