New Delhi, Jan 29 () Auto maker Renault on Wednesday said it has launched BS-VI compliant versions of its entry level hatchback Kwid and newly launched model Triber.
 The upgraded versions of Triber are priced between Rs 2.92 lakh and Rs 5.01 lakh, while Triber trims are tagged between Rs 4.99 lakh and Rs 6.78 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi), the company said in a statement.
 The price for BS-VI compliant Triber has been increased between Rs 4,000 to Rs 15,000 depending on the variant, while that of Kwid has been increased by Rs 9,000 across all versions, it added.
 The BS-VI compliant models of Duster and Captur will also be launched well before the BS-VI deadline (April 1), the company said. MSS

New Delhi, Mar 17 () French auto major Renault on Tuesday said it has launched BS-VI version of its popular SUV Duster in India with price starting at Rs 8.49 lakh.The BS-VI version of Duster will be available with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 5-speed manual transmission in three variants with the top end priced at Rs 9.99 lakh, Renault India said in a statement.The company has already launched BS-VI complaint versions of its other models Kwid and Triber in January.Duster is one of the mainstays of Renault's product portfolio in India. The auto market in India has once again jazzed up with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Pre-launch-bookings-for-Renaults-hatchback-Kwid-has-already-kicked-off/articleshow/49012556.cms">Renault</a> launching its entry level car, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Renault-launches-Indias-cheapest-hatchback-after-Nano-at-Rs-2-57-lakh/articleshow/49091377.cms">KWID</a>, on Thursday. The car, which is the first for Renault in the entry-level segment, has been priced at Rs 2.5 lakh ex-showroom price, Delhi. 
	 
	But while Renault too has jumped into the wagon in order clock in higher sales, can we expect the brand to break the clutter and oust <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/The-Maruti-Suzuki-S-Cross-is-here-Price-starts-at-Rs-8-34-lakh/articleshow/48358206.cms">Maruti Suzuki</a> and <keyword id="596" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai">Hyundai</keyword> from the leadership positions in the market or will it end up being yet another me-too product for the consumers? 
	 
	“I don’t think Renault can really challenge the positions of Maruti or a Hyundai but I definitely expect it to do well,” says auto expert Murad Ali Baig. 
	 He adds that the French auto major has adopted a ‘clever strategy’ to beat the competition in the segment. “They have not only kept the pricing competitive but have also given a mini-SUV look to the car, which no other brand has tried with their entry-level cars. It doesn’t look like an <keyword id="6412620" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Alto">Alto</keyword> or an Eon. It has a much more masculine personality,” he explains. 
	 
	If one looks back at the sector, consumers increasingly prefer cross-over cars from the conventional cars. And while Renault, it seems, has cleverly played on this growing trend, it has never been able to build a strong rapport with the quintessential Indian consumers. 
	 
	According to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers’ (SIAM’s) August 2015 report, even though there has been a miniscule increase in the passenger vehicle sale by 3.3%, Renault India has witnessed a decline in its number. 
	 
	As per the report, Renault India has recorded a whopping 52% decline in its August sales with the company registered a sale of only 1,527 units in August 2015 as against 3,235 units sold in the same month last year. In fact, Renault’s Duster, which is one of the high-performing models from the stable, has seen a dip in its number. The model, which sold over 3,000 units in September 2014, could only sell 1,109 units in August 2015. 
	 
	On the other hand, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Maruti-Suzuki-adds-snob-value-to-its-India-Biz/articleshow/47955523.cms">Maruti Alto</a> has sold over 23,000 units while Maruti registered a rise of nearly 10% in its August 2015 sales over last year, thus retaining its leadership position in the mass segment. 
	 However, the company is betting big on KWID. 	Well, while the company can ride high on its latest offering, what remains to be seen is whether it can bring the much needed numbers for this auto major, or will it end up being ‘just another car’ in the already crowded segment?

Renault's KWID to do well but cannot beat Alto!

The Franco-Japanese alliance, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=renault+nissan" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Renault-Nissan</a>, began its <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=passenger+car" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">passenger car</a> project in southern Tamil Nadu a few years back. 
 
Apparently, Renault-Nissan’s association with Tamil Nadu has been fruitful as the company is making another large investment of Rs 4, 200 crore in the state. 
 Presently, the alliance manufactures <keyword id="150905" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="passenger-cars">passenger cars</keyword> including <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=renault+duster" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Renault Duster</a> at the 640-acre factory and it will soon start manufacturing the Kwid, a sub-Rs 4 lakh car, at the plant. The company has invested about Rs 4,500 crore over the past seven years. 
 
So, why Tamil Nadu only? Here are the reasons. 
 
1. The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=tax+refund+" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">tax refund issues</a> have been sorted out between the alliance and the state government. The differences over the quantum of value-added tax and central sales tax refunds have been resolved after over a year of consultations with the company. 
 
2. The alliance, Renault-Nissan, which started investing in Tamil Nadu in 2008, gets benefits including <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=land+concession" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">land at concessional price</a>, exemption from stamp duty and electricity tax, dual feeder power lines and refund of output value-added tax and central sales tax. 
 
3. The cap on refunds were made as high as 115% of the eligible investments made by the manufacturer over seven years. 
Meanwhile, the state government is expected a super hit show at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=global+investor+summit" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Global Investor Summit</a>, slated for September 9 and 10 in Chennai.

Here is why Renault-Nissan is investing Rs 4,200 crore again in Tamil Nadu

<keyword id="6911" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="suzuki">Suzuki</keyword> Motor’s Indian arm <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> is going to develop a new generation <keyword id="6412620" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Alto">Alto</keyword> and strengthen its hold in the entry-car space. 
 Alto’s share dropped nearly to 40% -48% with the launch of <keyword id="43777" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Renault">Renault</keyword> Kwid. Kwid, however, has been able to gain almost 20% of the segment sales. The average monthly sales of the Alto have come down to 19,000-20,000 from 21,500 in the last fiscal year. 
 
 As per the sources, the company has started working on the project which internally is being called Y1K. The <keyword id="3734807" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-generation-Alto">new-generation Alto</keyword> is most likely to be launched by the festive season of 2019. The car will be the most expressive Alto anyone has ever seen and may even sport a crossover deign, they said. 
 
As the car will be engineered and made in India, it will be tailored as per the Indian market need. 
 
"While the company has made strong headway in the premium end of the market with the Baleno, Vitara Brezza and Ciaz, it will never lose sight of its bread-and-butter segment ... as the largest carmaker, Maruti needs to have a solid option for the prospective buyer and Y1K is an initiative on that front,” a person in Maruti Suzuki asking anonymity, told ET. 
 
The new-generation Alto will be engineered and designed based on a new platform so as to meet new regulations. "The hardware and technology will come from Suzuki, the putting together of hardware - that is design, engineering and validation will be all done by the Indian team with local inputs” a second person told ET. A Maruti spokesperson said as a policy, the company does not comment on future product plans. 
 
Maruti has lost share in the entry A car space, but has been expanding the share B segment, priced between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 12 lakh and led by the new Baleno, Ciaz and Brezza. 
 
Maruti is most likely to revamp its WagonR hatchback and Celrio tool in the next three years as part of its plan to launch 15 new products by 2020.
