New Delhi, Mar 17 () French auto major Renault on Tuesday said it has launched BS-VI version of its popular SUV Duster in India with price starting at Rs 8.49 lakh.The BS-VI version of Duster will be available with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 5-speed manual transmission in three variants with the top end priced at Rs 9.99 lakh, Renault India said in a statement.The company has already launched BS-VI complaint versions of its other models Kwid and Triber in January.Duster is one of the mainstays of Renault's product portfolio in India. Renault launches BS-VI compliant Duster, price starts at Rs 8.49 lakh

The Franco-Japanese alliance, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=renault+nissan" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Renault-Nissan</a>, began its <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=passenger+car" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">passenger car</a> project in southern Tamil Nadu a few years back. 
 
Apparently, Renault-Nissan’s association with Tamil Nadu has been fruitful as the company is making another large investment of Rs 4, 200 crore in the state. 
 Presently, the alliance manufactures <keyword id="150905" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="passenger-cars">passenger cars</keyword> including <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=renault+duster" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Renault Duster</a> at the 640-acre factory and it will soon start manufacturing the Kwid, a sub-Rs 4 lakh car, at the plant. The company has invested about Rs 4,500 crore over the past seven years. 
 
So, why Tamil Nadu only? Here are the reasons. 
 
1. The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=tax+refund+" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">tax refund issues</a> have been sorted out between the alliance and the state government. The differences over the quantum of value-added tax and central sales tax refunds have been resolved after over a year of consultations with the company. 
 
2. The alliance, Renault-Nissan, which started investing in Tamil Nadu in 2008, gets benefits including <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=land+concession" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">land at concessional price</a>, exemption from stamp duty and electricity tax, dual feeder power lines and refund of output value-added tax and central sales tax. 
 
3. The cap on refunds were made as high as 115% of the eligible investments made by the manufacturer over seven years. 
Meanwhile, the state government is expected a super hit show at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=global+investor+summit" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">Global Investor Summit</a>, slated for September 9 and 10 in Chennai.

Here is why Renault-Nissan is investing Rs 4,200 crore again in Tamil Nadu

Greater Noida, Feb 5 () French car maker Renault unveiled the AMT version of its sub-compact multi-purpose vehicle Triber at the Auto Expo here on Wednesday. The AMT version, which is set to be launched in the second quarter of the year, was unveiled by Fabrice Cambolive, senior vice president and chairman of Africa-Middle-East-India-Pacific Region for Renault Group along with Renault India Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Venkatram Mamillapalle. Triber has been a volume driver for Renault in the domestic market with the company selling over 28,000 units of the seven-seater car since its launch in India in August last year. "With Renault Triber, our commitment was to launch a car that would redefine the conventional notions of the Indian automotive industry. It also gave us the opportunity to be present in the largest and the fastest growing segment of the Indian automobile market. Today, we will take another step forward in the Triber journey with the reveal of the Renault Triber Easy-R AMT," Mamillapalle said. The AMT technology is becoming a popular choice across segments, he said adding, "with the Renault Triber Easy-R AMT, we will continue our pursuit of growth in 2020, led by a strong product plan and a strategic and collaborative approach with all our partners." The AMT version comes fitted with 1-litre energy engine, offering a great balance between performance and fuel economy with low total cost of maintenance, the company said. Renault recently also commenced exports of the MPV to South Africa and SAARC region. Renault will continue this growth momentum and expand the exports of vehicle to other parts of Africa and SAARC region, alongside growing the Triber family in India, Mamillapalle said. The launch of Triber together with the new Duster and Kwid has ensured that Renault is progressing despite the challenging macro-economic environment in India, he said. Renault India sales stood at 88,869 units last year, a growth of 7.9 per cent over 2018. It also exported more than 13,500 cars in 2019, Mamillapalle added. Renault has expanded its network reach to more than 370 sales points and 450 service touchpoints, including 257 service workshops and 215 locations covered through 'Workshop On Wheels', as per the company. The expansion in line with the company's focus on growing its presence in rural areas, Renault said. Renault unveils AMT version of Triber

NEW DELHI: <keyword id="210527" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Renault-India">Renault India</keyword> on Wednesday launched the <keyword id="6865140" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Duster">Duster</keyword> All Wheel Drive (AWD) compact SUV between Rs 11.89 lakh to Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). 
 
The AWD will enable the SUV to intuitively access the road and constantly engage all wheels. It will come in shift-by-fly options of 2WD, Auto and 4WD. The car is mated to a six speed transmission. 
 
The car is powered by the 1.5 dCi THP diesel engine with 110 PS@4000 RPM of maximum power and torque of 245NM@1750 RPM. It gets cosmetic changes to its exteriors and a new dash and seats for its interiors. It also gets a new infotainment system. 
 
Duster has been pivotal for the fortunes of the company as it has sold over 100,000 units in the past 25 months in India. 
 The Duster AWD is expected to contribute greatly to the company's hopes of garnering five per cent plus <keyword id="34527" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="market-share">market share</keyword> in the country. <keyword id="43777" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Renault">Renault</keyword> is alsp looking to launch two new cars next year even as it ramps up dealership to 175 across India by end of the year.

Renault Launches Duster AWD Compact SUV For Rs 11.83 Lakhs

New Delhi, Jan 29 () Auto maker Renault on Wednesday said it has launched BS-VI compliant versions of its entry level hatchback Kwid and newly launched model Triber.
 The upgraded versions of Triber are priced between Rs 2.92 lakh and Rs 5.01 lakh, while Triber trims are tagged between Rs 4.99 lakh and Rs 6.78 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi), the company said in a statement.
 The price for BS-VI compliant Triber has been increased between Rs 4,000 to Rs 15,000 depending on the variant, while that of Kwid has been increased by Rs 9,000 across all versions, it added.
 The BS-VI compliant models of Duster and Captur will also be launched well before the BS-VI deadline (April 1), the company said. MSS

Renault drives in BS-VI compliant versions of Kwid, Triber

MUMBAI: <keyword id="45224" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mahindra">Mahindra</keyword> &amp; Mahindra is lining up three major offerings in the compact sport-utility-vehicle segment for launch over the next 18-24 months, as it aims to reclaim space lost to the Ford EcoSport and <keyword id="43777" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Renault">Renault</keyword> Duster over the past couple of years. 
 All the three vehicles will be less than four metres long, a segment that industry experts say is going to be a key driver of passenger vehicle sales and where <keyword id="46869" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="MM">M&amp;M</keyword> has only a limited presence. Mahindra is still the local leader in utility vehicle sales, but its market share has fallen to 42% at the end of the fiscal year through March 2014 from more than 55% two years earlier. 
 
Renault meanwhile has grabbed about 9% of the market with the Duster, and Ford captured 8.68% with its sub-4-metre EcoSport. M&amp;M’s first compact SUV, the Quanto that failed to sustain the initial excitement, is getting ready for a major midlife facelift, said people with knowledge of the matter. 
 
The project, codenamed U215, includes major design changes which are currently being worked on at M&amp;M’s design centre in Italy. The U215 will be positioned between the other two vehicles in the pipeline — M&amp;M's first micro-SUV, dubbed S101, which will create a new entry point for the company and be pitted as an alternative to premium hatchbacks, and the probable Bolero replacement, codenamed U301. 
 
The U301 may co-exist with the Bolero, a vehicle that still has acceptance in the hinterlands. M&amp;M intends to do a Maruti in the compact SUV space, offering an alternative at every Rs 50,000-75,000 price points over the entry-level vehicle, a person close to the company told ETon condition of anonymity. 
"All three sub-4 metre SUVs will have different characteristics catering to different segment of buyers. Design will be the key differentiator. The S101 compact SUV has a car-like appearance whereas the U215, the new Quanto, will assume a more rugged appearance than the boxy stance it had when launched," this person said. 
 
According to him, the U301 will have the boldest features with a “Jeep Wrangler-like appearance”. An M&amp;M spokesman said the company cannot comment on specific product plans. 
 
"As a general rule, we constantly work on refreshing all our products," he said. The MPV/SUV segment, which makes up for 22%-23% of the overall Indian passenger vehicle sales, is expected to grow in coming years. Industry experts say, the compact SUV market is expected to grow five times to make up almost half a million vehicle at the end of the decade and that the sub-4-meter space is expected to make up for a sizeable share of that. M&amp;M has a strong band of loyal buyers and larger penetration in rural areas, but developing a sub-4-meter vehicle is extremely critical for it to regain its lost market share, said Gaurav Vangaal, senior analyst, forecasting, at consultancy firm IHS Automotive. 
 
The urban sub-compact SUV segment, which did not exist a few years back, is expected to make up for a sizable 20-25% of compact UV space going ahead, he said. "M&amp;M is there with its Quanto, but not with a proper sub-4-metre SUV, so it needs to prepare itself aggressively with more UVs in that space to protect its turf." 
 Pawan Goenka, president and executive director at Mahindra, has admitted in the past that the company wasn't quick enough to react to the compact SUV wave and that its answer to compact utility-vehicle space has been a year or two late. It seems the lineup of compact SUVs planned by the company is to not just take on existing rivals, but also react proactively to ensuing competition from the likes of Maruti <keyword id="6911" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="suzuki">Suzuki</keyword> and the local units of <keyword id="70910" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hyundai-motor">Hyundai Motor</keyword> and <keyword id="72707" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Honda-Motor">Honda Motor</keyword>, who too have lined up sub-4-meter SUVs for launch in the coming two-three years.

The person close to the company said the face-lifted Quanto will in fact be an interim model for M&amp;M and has a potential of 24,000 units a year, before an all-new Quanto, now dubbed U321, hits the market in 2017. 
 
The U321 is currently getting developed in the US and it will be a versatile platform that can deliver multiple products, from sub-4-metre to bigger 7-seat utility vehicles. 
 
While M&amp;M has seen its bread-andbutter utility vehicles Scorpio and Bolero as well as the XUV 500 selling in healthy numbers, its 'U platform' vehicles – the Quanto, Xylo and Genio – have been a major drag for it. It does not quite end there for M&amp;M. Its R&amp;D centres in India, the US and Italy are buzzing with projects. A face-lifted Scorpio and XUV should hit the market shortly. 
 
It plans to revamp lifestyle offroader Thar, which now gets an underpinning of the U platform, a departure from the legendary MM540 base due to upcoming safety regulations. And, pickup truck Genio will be significantly enhanced in its upcoming facelift to take more abuses, which is very common in the Indian market.

The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=car+sales">sales of cars</a> are hit and the vehicles are piling up at the factory since last three months. The company has decided to cut production from 40 cars an hour at the plant down to 20, a 50% output cut in the country's largest car plant. 
 
There are 5,140 <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=renault+duster">Renault Dusters</a> in the company’s inventory. Its latest <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=multi+purpose+vehicle">Multi-Purpose Vehicle</a> ‘Lodgy’ numbering 4,100 are also piled up at the factory. 
 
Not only this, the national dealer network has 10,500 cars. 
 
"The company has planned to disengage trainees, casual labour and apprentices, but the other workers will not be affected," an inside source with the factory told ET. The source said the beginnings are to be seen on the sales front. 
 The factory was set up in 2010 in the presence of the alliance's chairman and CEO <keyword id="69288" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Carlos-Ghosn">Carlos Ghosn</keyword>. It was built at an investment of Rs 4,500 crore and a capacity of 4 lakh cars at full ramp up. 
 
The alliance has come out with popular brands like Micra, Duster and Terrano. 
 Renault India Private Ltd and <keyword id="148574" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nissan-Motor-India">Nissan Motor India</keyword> give the manufacturing contracts to <keyword id="3010319" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Renault-Nissan-Automotive-India-Private-Ltd-">Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Ltd.</keyword> Besides these entities, there is also in Chennai the Renault Nissan Technology and Business Centre India. 
 
A top official with Renault said that it would not be appropriate to comment now.
