"I'm used to the rain myself," he told Insider. The 23-year-old has worked at Morrisons for two months. When it started raining, he grabbed one of the store's extra umbrellas for Freddie, the dog who was patiently waiting for his owner to arrive."I try to keep an eye out for dogs," Dearman said. He told Insider that this wasn't the first time he's held an umbrella for a dog. A day before the viral incident, he was helping a husky stay out of the rain. A Twitter user caught the sweet interaction and shared the image online, where it quickly went viral, having over 150,000 likes at the time of writing. A security guard used his umbrella to shield a dog from the rain, and now people are calling him a 'hero'

The announcement was followed by a 10% drop in the stock.In outlining the reasons for the weak results during an <a href="http://seekingalpha.com/article/3332345-the-sherwin-williams-companys-shw-ceo-chris-connor-on-q2-2015-results-earnings-call-transcript">earnings call</a>, CEO Chris Connor spent a decent amount of time on rain."As most of you know, it is our long-standing practice to not give weather reports on earnings calls, but the unprecedented rainfall across most of the United States during the past three months is hard to ignore," he said."16 states recorded above-average rainfall in the month of April. That number increased to 22 states in May, with 12 of those recording much above average and Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado setting all-time rainfall records," Connor added.According to Connor, 24 states had above average rainfall in June with three -Illinois, Indiana and Ohio- hitting all-time highs. The flooding this severe weather brought to Texas even prompted President Obama to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/presidential-disaster-declaration-signed-after-texas-storms-kill-21-2015-5">declare a state of emergency</a> for the state.Data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association backs Connor up. 108 of the 180 weather stations NOAA tracks nationwide had<a href="https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/national/2015/6/supplemental/page-2"> higher than average</a> rainfall for the first 6 months of the year. Also, May had the <a href="http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/temp-and-precip/uspa/?area=wet-dry&amp;month=4&amp;submitted=View">highest percentage of stations</a> reporting "very wet" conditions in the history of the department, which spans back to 1895.Essentially, since it was raining at a historic rate there was no time for contractors to use the paint they had or purchase new paint. Where it may show a delay for the housing market is completions, which is typically when paint is applied to the structure. Single family home completions missed expectations in both May and June, after having an excellent April according to data from <a href="http://www.census.gov/construction/nrc/index.html">the Census Bureau</a>. And on Friday, sales for new homes slumped to their <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/new-home-sales-june-2015-7">lowest level in 7 years</a>.Connor mentioned that for Sherwin Williams at least, it's not a permanent setback though it may be delayed to next year. "You know, a good week in June can make up for an entire horrible month of February. The problem was we didn't have the good week in June in 2015," said Connor. "We don't expect we'll get caught up and so that should bode well for a little bit of a better start in calendar year 2016." While there were other factors that impacted Sherwin Williams cited for the downturn in its sales, including the price of oil, it does seem that the weather argument holds some water.

Over the next two days, these rains will remain light, according to <a href="http://www.imd.gov.in/pages/city_weather_show.php">the India Meteorological Department. </a>This year, Chennai’s rainfall deficit was around 45%, which has started shrinking.

 For the last six months, the 5 million city residents have been facing drought as monsoons played truant. Normally, Chennai would receive 140 mm of annual rainfall but this year the whole state recorded a deficit of 28% since June 1. The monsoon, that is supposed to begin from June 1, and was later like it was across the country. Four years back, the city was flooded due to cyclones in the Bay of Bengal. As many as 500 died and 1.8 million people had to move. In 2019, however the city had the problem which is just the opposite.  The Price of Water As the city’s reservoirs dried up, water became an expensive commodity. So much so, that its more expensive than petrol. Residents are reportedly paying ₹80-100 for a 20 litre drinking water can, nearly ₹4 more than the price of petrol. Those few who could afford, <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/chennai-news/chennai-water-crisis-from-rs-2-000-to-rs-4-500-the-price-chennai-residents-pay-for-water-2067372">even paid</a> ₹75,000 for a month, to get a water tanker right to their homes. The local authorities are bringing water into the city via <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/the-first-special-train-carrying-more-than-2-million-litre-of-water-reaches-chennai/articleshow/70192058.cms">a special train, and distributing it.</a> Chennai Metro Water also started providing water at ₹700 for every 9000 litres. However, to avail of this, many of them wait for as long as three to four weeks to receive the supply. Ultimately, they would have no choice but to pay up or remain thirsty.

Chennai gets monsoon showers, but its too little to solve the water crisis

An unexpected dry spell this <keyword id="6358301" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Monsoon">monsoon</keyword> season might prompt the farmers to plant too much, too fast, thus raising fears of lower yields and surging food prices in a mostly impoverished nation. 
	 
	 

	Food prices are a political hot potato in India, where more than a quarter of its population of 1.2 billion people live on a mere 74 cents or less per day. In fact, high food prices have already pushed the country's June consumer inflation to an eight-month high. 
 

	That is why the ongoing dryness in central, western and southern India - key producing regions for cotton, soybean, corn, sugarcane, pulses and rice - is a big cause for worry. Poor output of summer crops would further lift food prices, restricting the central bank from cutting lending rates, crucial to boosting Asia's third-biggest economy. 
 

	"The outlook for inflation over the next few months depends squarely on monsoon rains for the remainder of the season," HSBC said this week. Farm sector accounts for 15 per cent of its economy and given half its farmland lacks irrigation, the monsoons are crucial. 
 

	A heavy downpour early last month had lifted the rain surplus to 28 per cent, raising farmers' hopes of a good June-September monsoon season despite forecasts for the emergence of an El Nino weather pattern. But following the dry spell, rains are now 6 percent below normal, with the deficit as high as 52 per cent in some regions, weather department data shows. 
 "Sowing has nearly stopped due to the dry spell. Even sown crops are under severe stress," said Vikas Deshmukh, <keyword id="6355165" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Agriculture">agriculture</keyword> commissioner of Maharashtra state, India's second-biggest cotton and soybean producer as well as its top sugar producer, to Reuters. 

	Farmers had initially rushed to sow seeds after ample rains, bringing total planting levels to 44.5 million hectares by July 10, up 62 per cent year on year. 
 

	But the higher number does not give a correct picture as monsoon in 2014 was delayed and so was the sowing, said B.V. Mehta, executive director of the Solvent Extractors' Association. In 2013, when rains were ample, by this time farmers had planted on nearly 52 million hectares. 
 

	For millions of farmers , where three fifths of the population depend on agriculture for their livelihood, the fate of a single crop can be the difference between life and death. 
 

	Earlier this year, dozens of debt-laden farmers committed suicide after damage from unseasonal rains, and poor summer-crop yields would exacerbate the pain for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government that is struggling to address rural distress. 
 

	"I can sow crops once again when we get rains, but I don't have money to buy seeds," said Narayan Patil, a farmer from Sarve village of Jalgaon district, 400 km north-east to Mumbai, to Reuters. 
 

	For Patil, and several others, the outlook is grim. 
 

	The official forecast remains that this year India could suffer its first drought since 2009 because of El Nino, which can lead to scorching weather across Asia. 
 

	Maximum temperatures in central and southern India are currently up to 6 degree Celsius above normal, hurting crop growth, said Nitin Kalantri, a pulses dealer.
 

	A drop in domestic output could lift overseas purchases of edible oils and pulses by India, the world's biggest importer of both, while limiting its rice and cotton exports. 
 

	"Crop yields are likely to be lower than normal this year even if monsoon becomes active in next few days," said Vandana Bharti, Assistant Vice-President (Commodity) with SMC Global Securities Ltd, to Reuters.

Unexpected dry monsoon spell give rise to
farmer woes

<keyword id="46472" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="drought">Drought</keyword> conditions are expected to ease in America's heartland, <a href="http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/expert_assessment/seasonal_drought.html">according to NOAA's spring-summer climate outlook</a>.
Rain should return to the region thanks to the return of normal precipitation cycles. There was also no dry signal in the agency's Climate Prediction Center's monthly outlook through June.

Although the drought will likely not be eliminated during the next three months, some improvement across this region is expected. Adequate precipitation during May and June and a lack of early summer heat waves are critical for any improvement to occur.
Meanwhile, the southern U.S. could be in for even more intense dry conditions than last year.

A torrential rainstorm in the Brazilian beach town of Recife is wreaking havoc on the city hours before the U.S.-Germany World Cup game.
Al Jazerra's Gabriel Elizondo reports that the storm <a href="https://twitter.com/elizondogabriel/status/482132429436899328">has dropped 25% of the average monthly rainfall</a> in the last 24 hours alone.
Reporters and fans are reportedly having trouble getting to the Arena Pernambuco, which is about an hour outside the city, because the roads are flooded.

The City That's Hosting The US-Germany Game Is Flooded, And It Looks Like Utter Chaos

As rainfall in the first half of the key crop planting month has been 13% higher than the average, traders are now betting on lower prices of edible oils, pulses and spices, bringing good news for the common man. 
 
The surge in monsoon rain recently has triggered a sell-off and lower prices for futures contracts in NCDEX, the country's premier exchange for agricultural commodities. 
 This was not the trend earlier as in the beginning of the month, the <keyword id="6355166" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="India-Meteorological-Department">India Meteorological Department</keyword> (IMD) said rainfall in the season would be 12% below normal, worse than its April forecast of a 7% deficit. Afutures market allows a person to buy or sell an asset at a predetermined price for delivery on a future date. 
 
Economic Times reported expectations of low farm output and consequent rise in inflation reflect in bullish bets in the market, while prospects of a good harvest after adequate rain lead to fall, which the market saw on Monday. Experts say prices can swing sharply in the months ahead. 
 
Also, price movements will depend on the progress of the monsoon. The wholesale price of chana for delivery on July 20 was Rs 44.88 a kg on Monday, down 8% this month. In the same period, coriander dropped 9%, Jeera 11.35%, chilli 6.9%, sugar 5.2%, mustard 4.2% and wheat 1.5%. 
 
"The markets, which earlier this month tried to form an upper band of prices (when fears of rain shortfall loomed) is now trying to create a lower band for prices," Viral Shah, senior Vice-President, Geofin Comtrade, told ET. 
 
"From pulses to oilseeds and spices to food grains, everything fell on Monday after the IMD report on monsoon. The futures market indicated that the wholesale spot price had fallen between 1.5% and 11% for all these commodities from June 1,” he added. 
 
However, the financial daily reported that experts warned of volatility in prices as stockists and traders, both in spot and futures markets, act based on the weekly reports of monsoon progress by IMD every Thursday.
