 Calls and texts sent to Rahul Singh from Business Insider remain unanswered. The NRAI and Zomato have been engaged in a bitter dispute over the foodtech giant’s discount programme that goes by the name ‘<keyword id="4299597" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zomato-Gold">Zomato Gold</keyword>’. The battle has led as many as 2,000 restaurants across India to logout of the platform including those from Tier 2 cities, according to Rahul Leekha, owner of Coffee by Di Bella and a member of the NRAI. The latest salvo from Goyal seems like an attempt to split the community of restaurant owners. He shared screenshots of the gold programme launched by Beer Cafe in August itself and implied that the movement against Zomato benefited a few large chains at the expense of smaller ones. “This is not about aggregators vs restaurants; this is about the small restaurant owner vs the large restaurant owner - and we are being painted as bullies. This logout campaign as it seems now, is driven by Rahul Singh, along with the participation of a few large restaurant owners, to use the NRAI platform to sabotage aggregators and benefit themselves,” Goyal wrote in his post. The logout movement was started by the NRAI chief Singh and multiple other restaurants against the deep discounting offered by food aggregators. Zomato had then offered to change its Gold programme to restrict the usage frequency, allowing consumers to use it just once in a day, which it is planning to stick to.

That was the problem Distelli CEO and founder Rahul Singh faced when he left Amazon Web Services in 2012, after spending nearly nine years there. He was its fourth engineer.
Singh always knew he wanted be an entrepreneur. He also had a clear goal of wanting to start a software company. Combining his engineering skills with the customer-centric approach he learned at Amazon, Singh believed he could build a kick-ass consumer product. 
But after six months, and a few failed projects that "went down bad tracks," Singh started thinking he might be better suited for an <keyword id="6356323" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Enterprise">enterprise</keyword> startup. After all, he was one of the first people to join AWS and had years of experience in cloud computing. He reached out to people, asking for advice. He spoke to a lot of different software engineers, trying to find the right business idea. 
"I just didn't know what problem I wanted to solve, or what company I was going to be building," Singh told Business Insider.
But through numerous conversations with engineers, Singh started to realize he was hearing the same problem over and over again: deploying code to allow applications to actually go live on servers was a much more complicated process than he thought it would be.
In order to launch an application, for example, engineers first have to write the code, test it to make sure it works, and then push it out to multiple servers, so it can handle all the traffic it gets. In doing so, engineers often lose track of who's in charge of what part of the software, or which servers are being used. If a bug is found, it could take weeks to fix the code. Plus, every server, like AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure, requires a slightly different deployment process that could drag the project further more.
Singh wasn't fully aware of this problem until he left AWS, he says. It's because at AWS, engineers have access to what is called "one-click deployment," where application software can go live on servers with essentially a click of a mouse. 
"Inside AWS, we almost took it for granted. But when I left AWS, it became clear that these tools were solving a problem for the rest of the world," Singh said.
So in 2013, Singh launched Distelli. Its software basically serves as the dashboard for engineers to keep track of who's working on what part of the software deployment process. It works with any type of server - whether it's on-premise, public cloud, virtual machines, or containers - and can quickly deploy apps in a single click. In fact, Singh says this flexibility is what sets apart Distelli from its competitors like Rightscale, whose software only works with AWS.
"Distelli allows software teams to ship faster by making it easy to push code to any server - essentially with one click - regardless of where the server resides," he said.
Although Distelli is still in its early stages, Singh claims the company is growing at a rapid clip. He didn't share any growth metrics, but investors seem to believe in its product, as Distelli announced on Tuesday that it raised $2.8 million from Andreessen Horowitz.
Singh says, in hindsight, his business idea seems obvious, considering his long experience at AWS. But he says it took him a while to discover his passion because he failed to ask the right questions. "It's very important to know what problems people have," he says. "You always have to be thinking, 'Am I solving someone's problem?' The Indian Government has asked companies not to sell mineral water bottles at higher MRPs at airports, malls and cinemas. Under the <keyword id="846883" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Legal-Metrology">Legal Metrology</keyword> (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, companies won’t be able to charge a higher MRP from Jan 01, 2018 onward. "Based on the experience of implementation of the rules and after a detailed stakeholder consultation, the department has amended the rules, aimed at enhanced consumer protection, but at the same time balancing with the requirement of ease of doing business," a statement from consumer affairs department read. There won’t be any dual MRPs on an identical pre-packaged commodity, which is going to benefit consumers at large. However, the rule won’t be applicable for restaurants. "This won't be applicable to restaurants as under GST they come under the category of supplier services. And the latest notification is applicable for retail services where customer buy off the counter," said Rahul Singh, secretary, <keyword id="146581" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Restaurant-Association-of-India">National Restaurant Association of India</keyword> (NRAI). Also, medical devices such as stents, valves, orthopaedic implants, syringes and tools for operations will have to display MRP. "This is to raise awareness, because the customer has a right to know what the prices (of these medical devices are)," Jai Priye Prakash, secretary, department of pharmaceuticals (DoP), told ET. So far, it was not mandatory for all medical devices declared as drugs to make mandatory declarations under the legal metrology rules. Some medical device manufacturers have welcomed the move. "Consumers were facing difficulty as devices were sold according to the paying capacity of the consumer. Even after capping of MRPs, many companies were not displaying (the MRP)," the department of consumer affairs said.

A team of four IIT alumni - Ankit Mehta, Rahul Singh, Ashish Bhat, and Vipul Joshi - started a company called ideaForge in 2007 to give their dream wings. They were working on developing technologies back in college and had many ideas they wanted to convert into products by the time they graduated. 
 
In 2008, recognition from government came to them when they won a Micro Aerial Vehicle competition at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. Thereafter, they landed with several government projects, one of which wa NETRA – a vertical takeoff and landing UAV built on quadrotor configuration that the team developed in collaboration with Defence Research and Development Organisation. 
 
 This UAV could take off from a small area and could fly over an area up to the height of 400m sending continuous real time videos of movements on the ground. It was this early prototype of NETRA that you had seen during the shoot of 3 Idiots. The movie director of 3 idiots had read about the drone and work by <keyword id="137562" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="IITians">IITians</keyword> in the newapaper. 
 
In 2009, ideaForge developed the world’s smallest and lightest autopilot drone and also came up with India’s first fully autonomous vertical takeoff and landing UAV. In this, a user feeds the GPS location of the required destination, which is then converted into command and instructions and the UAV reaches the location autonomously. 
 The UAV's made by this team are typically easy-to-use, so they can be used easily during emergencies. So far, they have been used by the <keyword id="6354416" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Army">Indian Army</keyword> to look for survivors after the deadly Uttarakhand floods back in 2013, to map the positions of militants during defence ops, for disaster management during the Nepal earthquake, and to manage crowds during the Kumbh mela. One of ideaForge’s <keyword id="94769" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="drones">drones</keyword> also helped in tracking a man-eating tigress in Uttarakhand.
