<p>Founder Darian Shirazi, who started the company as <keyword id="1776777" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Fwix">Fwix</keyword> a few years ago, was Facebook's first intern and worked for the social network for a year and a half.</p>
<p>So you'd think American Express would give his company a corporate card, right?</p>
<p>Not so, Shirazi told us. He had to personally guarantee the account to get a card.</p>
<p>American Express doesn't comment on individual clients, but this is a pretty common story we hear from startup founders. Because startups generally lack a financial history and lose money in their early years, it's hard for them to establish the kind of credit history that lenders like to see.</p>
<p>Still, surely they must have changed their mind after deciding to invest in Radius, right?</p>
<p> “We are impressed by Radius’ dedication to understanding what makes small businesses successful," American Express executive Harshul Sanghi said in a statement announcing the investment. "As Radius continues to build its comprehensive index of information on small businesses, we believe they offer a fantastic opportunity to efficiently understand the needs of the small business owner.”</p>
<p>Unless they need a business card, that is. Shirazi says he's still personally on the hook for to AmEx.</p>

As per a latest report by <a href="http://www.jobbuzz.in">JobBuzz</a>, an employer-rating platform powered by TimesJobs.com, most of the India Inc employees dread long commuting hours to work every day. Industry experts directly link the biggest effects of long commutes to stress-related health issues, and its adverse impact on employee productivity and job satisfaction.<br />

The report titled ‘Work Commuting Survey’ suggests that a whopping 60%  of the respondents felt spending more time to reach work directly affected their day-to-day performance and hampered their productivity.<br />

"What employees feel instinctively has been substantiated by numerous health studies that show the adverse effects of long commutes ranging from increased cholesterol and blood pressure, to anxiety and even depression. On a macro scale, the effects of commuting are obvious from contributing to traffic congestion, noise and air pollution, to urban sprawl and global warming." explains <em>Vivek Madhukar, COO, TimesJobs.com.</em><br />

<strong>Office is over an hour away for most people </strong><br />
 <br />
The survey results show that over 50% of India Inc employees spend more than an hour commuting to work every day while another 30% spend at least half an hour getting to office. JobBuzz further revealed some striking commuting patterns:<br />
 <br />
·         57% employees in metros spend more than an hour in commuting to office every day<br />
·         43% employees in small cities spend more than an hour in commuting to office every day<br />
·         53% male employees spend more than an hour in commuting to office; 35% spend over 30 minutes<br />
·         44% female employees spend more than an hour in commuting to office; 25% spend over 30 minutes<br />
So should proximity of the company to one’s home be an essential criterion while taking up a job?<br />

For 52% of the respondents, an office near home was a very important criterion while taking up a job. But 48% felt the proximity of one’s office to one’s home did not matter if the job and salary were fitting.<br />
<br />
In terms of gender, 65% male respondents felt proximity to home was a crucial factor in deciding their acceptance of an offer of employment. However, only 37% female employees felt the same way. A whopping 63% of female employees clearly stated that proximity was not a concern for them if career and financial benefits were good.<br />
<br />
On being asked what kind of company they would choose to work for, 40% of the survey respondents said they would choose an organization that was located less than 30 minutes away from their homes.<br />

Over 24% respondents said they would choose a company within a 5 km radius near home, while 21% said they would go for a company that offered higher conveyance allowance or fuel reimbursements. Nearly 15% of the respondents said they would work for a company that provided conveyance facility. <br />

"What seems evident is that employees in India Inc. are willing to forego their personal well-being for the benefits of higher income or better housing being passed onto other members of their household. 	<strong>Public transport is still the main mode for commuting</strong></h1>

For 45% of respondents, public transport remains the most economical and efficient mode of commuting to office while nearly 40% respondents used their own vehicles for this purpose. Nearly 9% respondents said they were provided with transport by the office while a meager 6% said they had organized and regularly used carpools.<br />

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="6354632" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="social-media">Social media</keyword> app <keyword id="2584005" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Yik-Yak">Yik Yak</keyword> made a comeback on Monday with an updated look and new rules for users.</li><li>The app lets users post anonymous messages locally.</li><li>The company recently updated its <keyword id="6354576" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="facebook">Facebook</keyword> profile picture, leading to speculation of its <keyword id="6376154" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Return">return</keyword>.</li></ul><p>The once popular social media app Yik Yak has officially returned to the app store, four years after shutting down.</p><p>The new owners of the company, now Yik Yak, Inc., purchased the rights to redevelop the app from digital payments company <keyword id="688028" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Square">Square</keyword> Inc. in February 2021, according to the app's website. </p><p>"We're bringing Yik Yak back because we believe the global community deserves a place to be authentic, a place to be equal, and a place to connect with people nearby," the new creators said on the webpage. </p><p>The app, which debuted in 2013, allowed anonymous users to send "yaks," or short, gossipy messages sent to other users within a 1.5-to-5-mile radius of their current location. The messages could be up or down-voted by other users. The app, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/the-inside-story-of-yik-yak-2015-3">once valued at over $400 million</a>, was popular among high school and college-aged students in its heyday. </p><p>Much of app's functionality remains the same as it did in the mid-2010s, such as its user anonymity and messaging radius, albeit with an updated, emoji-themed aesthetic.</p><p>On its webpage, the company outlines new "community guardrails" that aim to address some ethical issues of the original app. It warns of sharing personal details about a user, like names, physical attributes, and social handles. There is also a one-strike "no bullying" policy, which can get users banned if they engage harassment, bigotry, violence, sexual solicitation, and criminal activity on the app. The site also provides links and information on mental health and mindfulness resources.</p><p>The app was <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/yik-yak-shuts-down-2017-4">shut down</a> in April 2017 after a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/yik-yak-losing-popularity-in-colleges-2016-9">decrease in user engagement</a> and growing criticism around the use of its platform for rampant cyberbullying and threats of bombs and shootings, which in some cases led to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/27/style/yik-yak-bullying-mary-washington.html">school evacuations</a> and lockdowns. It has yet to be seen how effective the new guidelines will be given the rise of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-racism-misinformation-inevitable-zuckerberg-instagram-execs-say-2021-7">misinformation</a> and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-internet-social-media-fuel-polarization-america-facebook-twitter-youtube-2020-12">divisive language</a> on social media since Yik Yak was last active.</p><p>Yik Yak <a href="https://www.facebook.com/yikyakapp/photos/a.575291832520635/4185372808179168/">updated its Facebook profile picture</a> last week with a new logo. Some users on Facebook, <keyword id="6354616" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Twitter">Twitter</keyword>, and TikTok started sharing excitement about its potential return, while others shared concerns about whether the app could once again lead to bullying.</p><p>Yik Yak, Inc. and Square Inc. did not respond to requests for comment about the app's return.</p>

(TAI) project, was started to replace the Turkish Air Force's aging F-16 fleet.</span></li><li><span>The program has perhaps taken on new urgency as the US prepares to kick Turkey out of the F-35 program over Ankara's decision to purchase Russian S-400 air <keyword id="6354810" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="defense">defense</keyword> systems.</span></li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/?hprecirc-bullet">Visit Business Insider's home page for more stories.</a><span></span></li></ul><p>Turkey unveiled a full-scale mock-up of a new indigenous stealth fighter concept on Monday at the 2019 Paris Air Show.</p><p>The unveiling of the new TF-X, which is expected to be Turkey's first homegrown fifth-generation fighter, comes as the US prepares to kick its ally out of the F-35 program in response to the country's planned purchase of the Russian S-400 surface-to-air missile system.</p><p>"<span>Our machine is a mock-up, but in 2023 there will be a real machine, and first flight is in 2025, and [it will be in] service in 2028," Temel Kotil, the president and CEO of Turkish Aerospace Industries, Inc. (TAI), the company behind the model and new fighter concept, revealed at the event, Defense News <a href="https://www.defensenews.com/digital-show-dailies/paris-air-show/2019/06/17/turkish-aerospace-industries-reveals-indigenous-tf-x-fighter-as-s-400-dispute-looms/?utm_campaign=Socialflow+DFN&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com">reported</a>.</span></p><p>The TF-X program was launched to replace the Turkish Air Force's aging fleet of F-16s. The fighter was intended to be interoperable with other TurAF assets, including the F-35, TAI <a href="https://www.tai.com.tr/en/product/milli-muharip-ucak">explains</a> on its company website.</p><p>The mock-up TAI showed off at the Air Show is the twin-engine version, one of three different variations the company has explored in recent years, The War Zone reported, noting that the aircraft shares design similarities with the Lockheed Martin F-22 and F-35.</p><p>A promotional video highlighted some of the potential capabilities of the new TF-X. For example, the aircraft is said to be capable of flying at Mach 2 and have a combat radius of roughly 600 nautical miles. Kotil told reporters that it would be able to carry the Meteor beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile in the internal weapons bay.</p><p>TAI is involved in the fuselage production for the F-35, which gives it the knowledge and skills necessary to develop a homegrown fifth-generation fighter, the company explained. "<span>Hopefully, this will be also a good fighter for NATO and the NATO allies," </span>Kotil said, <a href="https://www.defensenews.com/digital-show-dailies/paris-air-show/2019/06/17/turkish-aerospace-industries-reveals-indigenous-tf-x-fighter-as-s-400-dispute-looms/?utm_campaign=Socialflow+DFN&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com">according</a> to Defense News.</p><p>This aerospace program may be taking on new urgency as the US takes steps to remove its NATO ally from the F-35 program, a direct response to Ankara's unwavering decision to purchase the S-400 despite US objections.</p><p>"<span>Turkey's procurement of the S-400 will hinder your nation's ability to enhance or maintain cooperation with the United States and within NATO," Patrick Shanahan, the acting Pentagon chief, recently wrote in a letter to Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/11/politics/us-air-force-turkish-f-35-pilots/index.html">reported</a>.</span></p><p>The US insists that the F-35 and S-400 are incompatible because the latter could be used to collect intelligence on the US fighter. The US has given Turkey until July 31 to reach an agreement.</p><p>If Turkey fails to do so, the US will block its ally from purchasing the F-35 and permanently halt the training of Turkish pilots on the advanced fighter. <ul><li><keyword id="758541" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon-Prime">Amazon Prime</keyword>’s latest <keyword id="878518" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Social-Media-Campaign">social media campaign</keyword> ‘Missing Me’ reminded us of <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>’s ‘WherestheF’ campaign from September 2020. </li><li>This made us wonder if <keyword id="6354632" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="social-media">social media</keyword> has normalised stealing original ideas in the name of ‘trends.’ </li><li>We reached out to experts to understand what are the perils of working on such similar ideas in today’s world. </li></ul>In the social media world, brands often use a creative template that is conceptualised by one agency and tweak it a little to jump on the bandwagon. Brands don't just take ‘inspiration’, they use almost the same template and put their logo on it without seeking consent from the creator. We have normalised replicating one brand's idea for another by calling it a 'trend.' Nobody has a ‘unique voice’ anymore -- everything today is a copy of a copy of a copy. (For example, take Snapchat’s stories, Twitter Stories, Instagram Stories, Facebook Stories)<br /><br />              <div type="javascript" title="Instagram" contenttype="Image"><cdata><![CDATA[ ]]></cdata></div><br />(Most of us are pretty clueless about who started this ‘India vs US’ trend first)<br /><br />At the end of the day, advertising is a business of ideas and without ideas, no agency would exist. After the advent of social media, however, agencies have violated their own code of conduct about idea duplication that they have been following for years now. It has become convenient for brands to adopt original ideas and formats on social media, in the name of ‘trends’, to grab their consumer’s attention. <br /><br />While one might argue that a brand only draws inspiration from the original idea to jump on the bandwagon, the same format can help another brand become more popular and even viral -- leaving the brainchild behind the campaign’s idea feel betrayed and boiling in rage. The creative person behind this brilliant idea, in return, can only calm his/her rage by commenting on the post, “Hey, that was my idea” and the industry moves on. Another day comes by, another post is uploaded without credit and another brand goes viral for an unoriginal idea. <br /><br />At the same time, brands also consciously try to put out formats that can be deemed worthy enough to be picked up and go viral.<br /><br />In March 2020, digital agency Schbang had written an open letter to the advertising industry titled ‘It is time to kill that #trendingformat’ after it saw thousands of content creators following their formats and the agency even agreed to have jumped on the bandwagon in the past. <br /><br />It read, “Every day some of us have lost our unique voices to a trend. Not entertaining consumers anymore. Just high-fiving each other on the ‘earned media. Let’s make mediocrity unhappy and hard work great again. Let’s make art that’s tailor-made for brands.”<br /><br />              <div type="javascript" title="Instagram" contenttype="Image"><cdata><![CDATA[ ]]></cdata></div><br />Schbang articulated and reflected upon what we are trying to convey with this story, almost a year ago. It is about how social media has allowed brands and agencies to leech on each other’s ideas and breed mediocrity. <br /><br />This week, Amazon Prime India dropped 'Me' from its logo across social media pages and soon, everyone was talking about it. A few more brands like Dunzo, Pepsi, Parle G and Tinder India picked up on this and removed 'me' from their creatives, which was possibly a collaboration between the platform and these brands. <br /><br />              <div type="javascript" title="Instagram" contenttype="Image"><cdata><![CDATA[ ]]></cdata></div><br />But wait a minute. Did you also feel a déjà vu? We have heard of this before. Sounds too similar, doesn’t it?<br /><br />We couldn't help but compare Amazon Prime Me (Mobile Edition) campaign with Flipkart and Samsung's '#WhereTheF' campaign from September 2020 and spot the uncanny resemblance. <br /><br />Allow us to refresh your memory. <br /><br />For a few days in September 2020, Flipkart had tweeted without using the alphabet ‘F.’ Some of the words in its tweets were like ‘rom’, ‘itness’, ‘irst’, ‘inds’, and others. A-listers and brands joined in and started looking for Flipkart’s ‘F.’ Users were curious about what’s cooking and Flipkart later announced that it was a marketing ploy for Samsung's phone launch. Both of these campaigns have a similar strategy: make a typo to get noticed on the platform, edit your social media bio, support it with a hashtag and get more brands to tweet about it so that there’s a continuous momentum on social media to earn organic PR. <br /><br />While it wasn’t a trending format, it is a similar idea and template, executed a few months apart with little changes: brand name, colour and timing. Had it been a TVC or a giant billboard, Amazon Prime would probably have been accused of plagiarism. While on social media, it is okay to revise and pass the derivative ideas as their own. <br /><br />So, we reached out to experts to understand the perils of working on similar-looking ideas today and discuss if social media has normalised <keyword id="10590919" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="idea-theft">idea theft</keyword>.<br /><br />Here is what they said: <br /><br /><strong>Lloyd Mathias, Angel Investor and Business Strategist:<br /></strong><br />I think this a cool twist in moment marketing, where brands pick on ongoing conversations and insert themselves with casual banter weaving their brand messaging. When brands indulge in casual repartee, it helps them come through as casual and friendly and in a sense endear themselves to their audiences. <br /><br />When Flipkart kicked off the #WheresTheF trend back in September the obvious reference was to the more commonly used WTF so part of GenZ speak. It also played on Flipkart’s logo that used the F! Brands like Samsung and Swiggy were quick to pick on this pitching their own lines dropping the letter F. Amazon taking this on with its own variant for Amazon Pri….with the ME missing now has other brands latching on taking the opportunity to up their social media game. This campaign - on the missing ME - that's creating immense curiosity, is driving both interest and sparking off reactions from other brands, fuelling the conversation. <br /><br />These catchy, smart, low coats conversation builders help boost excitement in social media platforms, helping the brand up it's salience and is a welcome trend in an increasingly digitally savvy society. <br /><strong><br />Harish Bijoor, Brand Guru &amp; Founder, HarishBijoor Consults Inc:<br /></strong><br />Good ideas have a restricted shelf-life. Once a brand has used it, it becomes part of used-lore, and loses its original sting. That is the risk of using ideas used once, time and again by others. Social media is really an anarchy. Ownership of ideas is seldom respected. People lift thoughts and ideas without a qualm. Chasing idea-theft is therefore a very laborious task out here. When a brand does have an original idea, the best way to protect it is to go hammer and tongs on it, and go to town with its exposure. If the exposure is large enough, the one who wants to copy it will think thrice before doing it.<br /><br /><strong>Abhik Santara, Director and CEO ^ a t o m:</strong><br /><br />It is sheer lazy marketing - by clients and agencies. And both are to be blamed equally. If an agency goes with a new idea/innovation, clients are asking to see a reference. How is that possible? It's a new idea. Similarly, agencies are getting too comfortable to present ideas which have topicality built in. It is easier to ensure a certain amount of engagement on popular subjects. But does that create any difference or add to the core of the brand? Null! A good performance campaign should help the brand and a good brand campaign must deliver performance. It's not either or. Agencies which are equipped to understand and deliver this, will drive the future.<br /><br />The battle of communication between rivals is not new in marketing. It has been happening for many decades. But that was when communication was one sided, and markets were fragmented. Today, in the digital era, it is walking into fire. Consumers will pick it up, competitive brands will lash out. And probably the brand which is being copied gets more mileage out of it.<br /><br /><strong>Ashish Khazanchi, Managing Partner, Enormous Brands:</strong><br /><br />I think the online world is all about conversations and fueling those conversations and making sure that you are the guy who's benefiting the most from those conversations. Couple of years back, if I came across a campaign that somebody else has already, we would put an end to ours. But what I see happening is, if I'm the originator of that kind of a thought, and lots of people wanting in on that one, you got a good thing going: you got a campaign you started off, more and more people joining in the conversation. The conversation that you started is actually working in your favor: the world is talking about it. They get some reflected glory, but the main glory, the guy who started off the conversation, that just exactly how the whole hashtagging of it or how you started all those conversations the way it works.<br /><br /><strong>Akshara Vasavda, Creative Lead, Schbang:</strong><br /><br />Amazon’s campaign definitely feels similar right now, but how they take it forward might change everything. But yes, they've chosen a route that now begs scrutiny because of its obvious similarities to campaigns of well known competitor brands. <br /><br />Personally, I don't think following a trend is that big a deal. Almost every single thing we consume today is a copy of a copy. Of course outright plagiarism is wrong, but when it comes to creativity in advertising, it's not just the idea on a conceptual level that makes things happen. So yes, the idea might be similar, but how it's executed, in what context it's executed, the end objective, all of that determines the success of the idea. Even if we copy a Cannes winning idea and slap it on a random brand, it won't work if the rest of the aspects aren't fitting in. If Amazon is intentionally or unintentionally copying Flipkart - a) the consumers are smart enough to see through this and it won't appeal to people as much because the intrigue factor will be lost. b) if the consumers do end up liking it, it automatically means that they did something that stood out and made people like the idea despite it being similar to a competitor brand that is also equally well known in India. Basically, in the end, the consumers decide if the brand can get away with 'copying' or not. It would be a very different conversation for things like films, shows, music, etc. But this is advertising we're talking about. Creativity is simply an added layer in the process of marketing the product - the end goal is to generate buzz, get outreach, get sales, etc. If that happens, all is good. If that doesn't happen, even the most unique idea won't be appreciated. <br /><br />The Internet largely works on meme culture. This culture has now trickled down to digital advertising as well where 'formats' essentially become 'memes'. It's got its pros and cons. If your brand puts out an innovative format, and other brands end up using it as a trend, that's big validation for your own brand. Most brands wouldn't look at it as idea theft. In fact, brands today consciously try to put out formats that can be 'picked up' and go viral. But the flipside is that while some brands are pushing for innovation to be the leader of the trend, some brands are happy following trends instead of creating them. That comes down to the agency culture and the creatives working on these brands. It definitely doesn't feel like a case of idea theft right now. And where there have been cases of lazy plagiarism, like I said earlier, the consumers (and even agencies) are smart enough to call it out. <br /><br /><strong>P.G Aditya, National Creative Director, Dentsu Webchutney:<br /></strong><br />Similarities like these exist across the spectrum, everywhere. Once they get there, they plan to study if mining the surface of the moon for water and helium-3 is possible. <br /><br />Helium-3 is a source of waste-free nuclear energy which, when harnessed, is worth trillions of dollars. The Helium-3 isotope can provide safer nuclear energy as it is not radioactive and doesn't produce dangerous waste products.<br /><br />The Helium-3 isotopes are limited on Earth but found in abundance on the moon due to the heavy solarwinds it is in contact with. If the isotopes on the moon are harnessed, they could theoretically meet the global energy demands for 250 years. However, that could require overcoming a lot of difficulties like mining the lunar surface and building of power plants for starters. <br /><br />The exploration on the moon is open to all countries and therefore, <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> is facing tough competition from other governments, start-ups and billionaires. However, the chairman of ISRO, K Sivan, has declared that he wants to dictate this mission of harnessing Helium-3 and not just be a part of it like the other countries. If successful, the mission could lead to the scientific, military and commercial gains of the country and world, in general.<br /><br />China had put a rover on the moon in 2013 with its Chang'e 3 mission and has plans to return later this year to explore the far side. Furthermore, US is calling for astronauts to return to the moon too, and NASA has proposed a $19 billion budget to launch a lunar orbiter by the early 2020s. <br /><br />ISRO’s estimated budget, about $1.7 billion, is less than a 10th of NASA’s, but having said that, ISRO’s hallmarks include getting the job done cheaply yet effectively. The upcoming mission will cost about $125 million which is less than a quarter of Snap Inc co-founder’s compensation last year, according to the Bloomberg Pay Index.<br /><br />India’s confidence in the success of this mission has increased because it has already had one successful moon mission. The Chandrayaan-1 craft, launched by India in October 2008, had discovered molecules of water in the lunar surface for the first time.<br /><br />The upcoming launch called <keyword id="53289" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chandrayaan-2">Chandrayaan-2</keyword> will include an orbiter, lander and a rectangular rover and cover an area with a 400-meter radius. It will collect information for at least 14 days and send images to the lander, to be transmitted back to ISRO for analysis.<br /><br />Rakesh Sharma, a famous Indian space traveller, said that even if India reaches the moon first, one can not draw boundaries there. He wants India to show that its capable of utilising <keyword id="6422364" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="space-technology">space technology</keyword> for the good of people.<br />

This "phone" is also a walkie-talkie and GPS tracker - here's why I love it to keep tabs on my 5-year-old

And in</span>terestingly, the location of the tests is the town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico - also home to Spaceport America.</p><p>Details of the effort are being kept secret, though the filing notes that the tests will involve the 3650 - 3700 Mhz radio frequency - t<span>hat's the spectrum for the so-called <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/google-is-running-an-experiment-on-racecars-at-nascar-events-2017-4">Citizens Radio Broadband Service, </a>an unlicensed radio band that many companies believe could be useful for 4G LTE wireless networks. FCL will also conduct tests in the 2500 Mhz range, the filings say.</span></p><p><span>It's unclear from the filings whether the tests are taking place at Spaceport America, or simply in the nearby desert. A representative for Spaceport America declined to comment. </span></p><h2><span>A hub for space tourism that's also attracted Google</span></h2><p><span>The Spaceport facility, funded by the state of New Mexico, hopes to be the center of the nascent space tourism industry and includes tenants like Virgin Galactic. </span><span>Google has also previously conducted tests at Spaceport America, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/google-testing-airborne-technology-at-spaceport-america-2015-11">for radio technology involving aircraft hovering 25,000 feet in the air</a>.</span></p><p><span>Facebook is <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-cto-describes-how-aquila-works-2015-11">building solar-powered "Aquila" drones</a> to deliver internet access to various parts of the world. The drones are very large, with the wingspan of a Boeing 737, and are designed to fly at an altitude of 60,000 feet for up to three months at a time. Facebook is <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/r-facebooks-solar-powered-internet-drone-takes-flight-2016-7">testing those drones</a> in Arizona.</span></p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>BI</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>In one the filings, FCL Tech refers obliquely to its tests as a "connectivity project," writing: "This LTE-based connectivity project requires a hardware prototype testing facility to assess key risks associated with communication system architecture, channel modeling and link budget verification at a coverage area spanning 50 km radius." (LTE stands for Long-Term Evolution, and is a standard for 4G wireless communications.)</p><p>The filings also disclose that distance from the ground to the tip of the antenna is 30 meters, and there are two testing stations. </p><p>One expert Business Insider spoke to speculated that the project could be related to testing wireless signal strength, an essential component of drone technology, and that New Mexico could offer ideal conditions to do so.</p><p>"From the phrase 'channel modeling and link budget verification' my best guess, and that's all that it is, is that this is en experiment of signal propagation," consulting wireless engineer Steven Crowley wrote in an email.</p><h2>A system to control and monitor drone flights?</h2><p>"Monitoring the signal strength between the two points and seeing how it varies with weather and terrain. Then change the two points and test again.  The channel model and link budget would be used to predict the signal strength and, depending on the results, they might go back and adjust the channel model and link budget to make it more accurate. The area around Truth or Consequences is relatively flat and much less urban. They might have a reason for wanting to know the propagation conditions there as precisely as possible - by actually testing there and not trying to extrapolate from elsewhere. </p><p>"Just speculating, I can imagine fixed communications equipment spaced at intervals to control and monitor drone flights. You'd want those links to be highly reliable. Painstaking testing can help ensure that.  </p><p>"Then again, I'd think you could just boost the power some on the ground and on the drone. Power can make up for lack of knowledge of, and help overcome variations in, the channel. I expect there is not much there they can interfere with. So it's still somewhat of a mystery."</p><p>While Facebook's primary drone effort revolves around Aquila, the company also appears to be testing wireless tech on smaller drones. In 2016, Facebook's <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-to-test-wireless-equipment-on-small-drone-2016-10">FCL Tech asked the FCC for permission to test wireless equipment on a small drone </a>with a maximum flight level of 400 feet, above its Menlo Park, Calif. headquarters. Facebook has since expanded those tests with what appears to be a fleet of 30 such drones. </p><p>Facebook declined to comment. </p><p><em>Know more? <p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Costing an estimated $3 billion project, the</span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> <keyword id="73163" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="redevelopment">redevelopment</keyword> plan will form a loop </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">around midtown and downtown Atlanta including 22 miles of rails, trails, greenspace and transit. It will pass through 45</span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> different </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">neighborhoods and provide transportation to some of the biggest employers in the area.</span></p>

<p><span>This is a massive project — yet it almost never happened. </span></p>
<p><span>The project would have never become a reality </span><span>if Ryan Gravel's coworkers hadn't told him that his </span><span>master's thesis from Georgia Tech was too "cool" to merely be an idea. </span></p>
<p><span></span><span>In 1999, Gravel was a graduate student studying </span><span>architecture and city planning. </span><span>He had been inspired by the roads in Paris a few years before during a study abroad program that he says </span><span>"changed the way [he] saw the world."</span></p>
<p>"I really fell in love with the city. I took transit everywhere. I ate fresh food from the local markets and dropped about 15 pounds. The way the city is built impacts our health and the way we live."</p>
<p>When he returned to the States, he came up with a plan to <span>build a transit network for Atlanta — typically a car-centric city —  but didn't pursue the project after graduation </span><span>until his coworkers encouraged him to do so. </span></p>
<p><span>For </span><span>three years, Gravel and his team of supporters pushed for the project in "grassroots movements," attending town meetings and sending letters to city officials. It was </span><span>Cathy Woolard, a city councilwoman at the time, and later </span><span>the Council’s president, who </span><span>made the big moves after hearing about the proposal.</span></p>

<p><span>Gravel's employer Perkins+Will, <span>global architecture and design firm with an <keyword id="6521786" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Urban-planning">urban planning</keyword> and design practice</span>, was brought on board, as well as </span><span>James Corner Field Operations</span><span> (</span><span>JCFO</span><span>), the </span><span>same company that designed the </span><span>High Line Park redevelopment in New York's Chelsea neighborhood. </span></p>
<p><span>The idea is to take the old historic railroad lines that "belts" around the city and provide routes that have never been connected and "incentivize </span><span>growth in that area," Gravel explains. "I</span><span>t becomes a magnet not only for office and residential development, but also for theater and cultural life."</span><span> </span></p>
<p>"The economic impact will not only be significant for Atlanta, but it'll help rebalance growth for some parts of the city that haven't seen investment for a number of years."</p>
<p><span>He hopes that the completed project will also put an end to Atlanta being so reliant on cars: </span><span>"When you look at demographic changes and preferences of Millennials, the world is changing and Atlanta needs to reposition itself so that it's not known as a car city. T</span><span>he car culture in every city — but especially in Atlanta — it has to change."</span></p>

<p><span>"The BeltLine will not only be the physical form of the city, it changes the way we think about the city, it changes our culture expectation. </span><span>This takes sustainability to a new level."</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Lisa Gordon, COO and interim leader of Atlanta BeltLine, Inc., tells Business Insider, </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">"The Atlanta BeltLine is already transforming not only the physical character of the city, but the way people are interacting with each other and their environment, with new amenities, and opportunities for individuals, families and businesses."</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"></span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">"The impact of [this project] will continue to be felt for generations to come,” says Gordon.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">In October 2012, two miles of the Eastside Trail opened and </span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">$775 million in new developments sprung up as a result along those two</span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"> miles.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"></span><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">The Atlanta BeltLine has been under construction for the past six years and is projected to be completed in 2031. </span></p>
