Yes, the tickets were exorbitantly expensive, way above the prices advertised on <keyword id="20215809" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="BookMyShow" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="BookMyShow" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="BookMyShow">BookMyShow</keyword> (BMS), the official ticketing partner. But so what? What mattered was that they could finally attend Coldplay's concert. At 12 noon on September 22, when bookings for Coldplay’s 2025 India leg of “Music of the Sphere” world tour had commenced, A was also in line, having logged in since 11:30 am, from 4 different screens and through 6 cousins. But God, and BMS were in no mood to reward her efforts and patience. The ticket sale lasted for a mere few seconds, before the site crashed and all tickets were sold out. Turns out, even the second time wasn’t the charm for them. The first time, too, A had not been able to get tickets for Diljit’s Dil-luminati India tour, which had gone live earlier last month. They had applied for an HDFC Pixel credit card to access the early-bird offer, but it was as if luck was taunting them “vibe teri meri na mildi aa”. could not get tickets for Diljit’s concert as well, which had also vanished within minutes of going live, much like Coldplay's. That’s why, when they saw that tickets for both Diljit and Coldplay were being sold by various Instagram accounts, despite showing as sold out on <keyword id="20496317" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zomato-Live" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Zomato Live" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Zomato Live">Zomato Live</keyword> and BookMyShow, it seemed magical to A. And per Coldplay, “If you were to ask me, after all that we've been through. Still believe in magic?”, the only acceptable response is “Yes I do, of course I do!” So, they went ahead, agreed to pay Rs 35,000, and bought Coldplay tickets which would’ve cost them Rs 6,450 via BMS. A steep price to pay, but at least they had their ticket to “an experience of a lifetime!”. As it is, the band had announced its retirement post its 12th album, and the band had just launched its 10th album, "Moon Music". <h2>BookMyShow to “fix” scalpers?</h2>But this morning, BMS startled many people like A by stating that unethically sourced tickets (read: tickets not directly booked via BMS) could be canceled. The platform had already filed an FIR to this effect with the <keyword id="19906039" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-police" source="keywords">Mumbai police</keyword> on October 2, 2024, against the rampant “ticket scalping and black marketing of tickets for Coldplay's <keyword id="22420646" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Music-of-the-Spheres" source="keywords">Music Of The Spheres</keyword> World Tour 2025 in India”. The ticketing platform added that they had provided details of all resellers that had caught their sight, including independent individuals reselling tickets for Coldplay’s tour across social media platforms such as Instagram (where A had purchased their tickets from) and WhatsApp. Not just these small resellers, but multinational ticket exchange and <keyword id="23273060" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ticket-resale" source="keywords">ticket resale</keyword> platform <keyword id="23278340" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="viagogo" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="viagogo" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="viagogo">Viagogo</keyword>, and its parent company StubHub Holdings have also been served legal notices by Zomato Live and BMS. While Zomato Live has not commented on if the tickets purchased via Viagogo or such scalpers would be canceled or not, it is no secret that hours after the tickets were shown as sold out on these official sites, tickets for both Diljit and Coldplay’s concert were available on Viagogo, albeit at sky-high prices. Even as of today, you can buy tickets for Coldplay’s concert in Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium on January 19th, 2025 on Viagogo. The catch? You should be willing to empty your pockets. Consider this. Tickets for level 2 stand E were priced at Rs 9,000 on BMS. On Viagogo, the tickets for this specific category start at Rs 54,431, and go as high as Rs 1,89,512. The tickets A bought were also originally priced at Rs 6,450. But on Viagogo, the starting range is Rs 31,288, going up to Rs 1,13,207. Talk about earning 5x-6x returns! In comparison, the ticket prices offered by these Instagram reseller accounts, also termed as scalpers, might look benign, even generous. But at the end of the day, scalpers are also looking to rake in profits, which they earn by selling these tickets in bulk i.e. lots of 5-10 tickets at once. After all, who is attending concerts alone? The slim margins on individual tickets are well cushioned by the extra bucks brought in by the higher quantities of tickets sold at once. In A’s case, the scalper demanded a 20% advance for booking confirmation. Others ask for as much as 50% of the booking amount. Once that’s done, the customer would get an e-ticket on their registered email ID, which will mention their seat number and booking ID. Then, once this customer pays the remaining amount, the physical tickets will be dispatched to their registered address. Mind you, these physical tickets are important. Just e-tickets won't make the cut for both Coldplay and Diljit. You would not be able to enter the venue if you don't have this physical ticket or a wearable band. So, if the tickets are not delivered to your place before the concert, you’d be left stranded, even after paying all that money. Also, dont be surprised with a constant, relentless barrage of messages and calls, if you so much as just inquire about the tickets. Most scalpers, in a bid to quickly close on the opportunity, call incessantly, not giving buyers enough headspace to make rational, or for that matter, rationally priced decisions. But even after all the hassle, there is no guarantee of timely, or even delivery. While there were multiple screenshots on each of these pages, showing confirmation from various Instagram users saying that tickets had been delivered, but is that convincing proof enough? Or legal enough? <h2>Its legit, its not legit-No one knows! </h2>Well, it's a gray area, truth be told. But Germaine Pereira, Partner, Solomon &amp; Co. underlines that if the buyer is willing to pay a premium or higher price than the ticket’s original face value, it is valid, and perfectly legal under the Indian Contract Act, 1872 “Ticket resale or scalping, where individuals or entities buy tickets for specific events, and then resell such tickets at a higher price to make a profit, is valid if it meets the essential elements of a contract-offer, acceptance, consideration, and lawful object. Unless there is a clearly established motive of cheating or fraudulent inducement or exorbitant pricing of tickets in the secondary markets, there’s nothing wrong”, continues Pereira. State governments are also largely reluctant to establish regulations in these waters, since a resale would entail double entertainment tax, which only adds to their coffers. Says advocate Siddharth Chandrashekhar, Senior Panel Counsel at Bombay High Court, "Although some state police forces, like in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Punjab, have cracked down on illegal sales, arrests are rare, and the absence of cohesive legislation leaves enforcement inconsistent. Black marketing or reselling of live event tickets at escalated prices constitutes an offense under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 for petty crimes, the Consumer Protection Act 2019 for unfair trade practices, and the Competition Act 2002 for abuse of dominant position”, Chandrashekhar highlights. “While Maharashtra’s Entertainment Duty Act, 1923, attempts to curb resale for some events, most states lack clear laws addressing scalping. Concert ticket scalping in India operates in a regulatory vacuum. With no specific national laws, opportunistic sellers can legally resell tickets for exorbitant sums, with no recourse for buyer”, he signs off.

Star Indian rapper Sidhu Moose Wala shot dead at 28 in Punjab, police say

Amid worries of Covid-19 surge, Punjab CM orders new restrictions from March 1

Chandigarh, July 15 (IANS) The council of ministers in Punjab on Wednesday paved the way for the state police to become India's first force to draw on civilians as domain experts to give a high quality cutting edge to its investigative functions. As many as 798 such experts will be recruited directly as plainclothes civilian support staff for the Punjab Investigation Bureau, which is all set to get a dose of fresh blood and a qualitative edge with the induction of 4,251 personnel, across different ranks and positions, as a result of the restructuring of the Punjab Police department. The restructuring was approved by the Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, at a virtual meeting, according to an official spokesperson. The restructuring, which will enable the bureau to make direct recruitments in the ranks of sub-inspectors, head constables and constables, will be done in a revenue-neutral manner, by abolishing 4,849 existing posts, thus ensuring that there is no additional financial burden on the state exchequer, the spokesperson said. As per provisional plans, direct recruitment of 1,481 police officers will be undertaken across ranks, which would be a game changer as they will infuse fresh blood that will bring in the requisite skill-sets, expertise and experience to carry out specialised investigations, such cyber investigations, financial investigations for economic crimes, etc. This will bring about a qualitative change in the investigation process, which is currently in the purview of the general cops in the Punjab Investigation Bureau that was set up in 2015. It would help improve the quality of investigations in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substance cases against smugglers and suppliers. Such recruitments of graduates in law, forensics and commerce and other domains would also give an opportunity to the educated youth of Punjab in getting jobs and making careers in the Punjab Police service. These fresh recruitments would be done after taking out these posts from the purview of the Subordinate Service Selection Board through Police Recruitment Board. This will enable the bureau to also fill 100 per cent posts (159 posts) of ministerial staff as per existing Punjab Police Ministerial Staff Rules and 798 posts of civilian support staff as per the new proposed service rules. Delhi traffic police shuts UP-Delhi border roads due to farmers' protests

As <keyword id="8785701" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="COVID-19-cases">Covid-19 cases</keyword> continue to rise rapidly in <keyword id="6354953" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="punjab">Punjab</keyword>, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Monday ordered stricter restrictions beginning on Tuesday, including extension of night curfew timings from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., closure of all bars, cinema halls, gyms, spas, coaching centres with restaurants and hotels to be open only for takeaway and home delivery. Rates for <keyword id="9043621" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="RT-PCR">RT-PCR</keyword> and rapid antigen testing (RAT) by private labs have been reduced to ₹450 and ₹300, respectively, with additional charges for home collection of the samples, in a bid to promote increased testing. Gatherings of more than 20 persons, including for weddings and cremations, have also been banned across the state, with approval of the district administration needed for all gatherings of more than 10 persons, except for cremations. The new restrictions, which also include closure of all malls, shops and markets on Sunday, coupled with the ones imposed earlier, will remain in effect till April 30, announced the Chief Minister, directing the <keyword id="93961" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Police-Department">Police Department</keyword> to strictly enforce the restrictions, taking support of civil society organisations where needed. All weekly markets have also ordered to be shut down. Chairing a high-level virtual meeting to review the Covid situation in the state, the Chief Minister also ordered that all people flying into Punjab should have a negative RT-PCR report not more than 72 hours old, else they would have to undergo RAT testing at the airport. He also ordered that people who have attended large gatherings anywhere -- religious, political and social -- to be mandatorily home quarantined for five days and tested as per protocol. The Chief Minister directed the <keyword id="62110" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="transport-department">Transport Department</keyword> that number of people in buses and taxis and autos be restricted to 50 per cent of the capacity. In a bid to check inbound travellers, the Chief Minister also directed that rapid antigen testing booths should be set up at bus stands and railway stations and all passengers checked. All eligible persons should be also vaccinated. The Chief Minister also ordered postponement of the recruitment exams for patwaris and directed the Medical Education Department to hold online examination for the first, second and third year MBBS, BDS, BAMS and 1st year nursing students. He also reiterated his appeal to all religious, social and political leaders to desist from organising large gatherings, encourage vaccination and motivate people for Covid appropriate behaviour, especially wearing of masks and avoiding gatherings. Guardians of governance and all ex-servicemen have been urged to take the lead in ensuring adherence to protocols. He further said that military hospitals in the cantonments in Punjab had assured the state government of all possible help to tackle the surge, while private hospitals had already been directed to reserve 75 per cent beds for Covid patients. While reviewing the situation in private and government hospitals, the Chief Minister directed 75 per cent reservation of L-3 facilities for Covid in all private hospitals providing critical Covid care. He said no elective surgeries should be conducted in any government or private hospitals till May 15 and all <keyword id="6356134" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="OPD">OPD</keyword> patients must be tested, besides encouraging them to get vaccinated. The spike, he said, could be attributed to the new variant, along with people coming back from large gatherings from outside Punjab. The figure was expected to go up further with more testing, he said, adding that by May 5, the state was projected to report 6,000 cases a day of urgent measures were not implemented in districts of Ludhiana, SAS Nagar (Mohali), Jalandhar , Amritsar and Patiala, which would be the drivers of the spike. The scope of the Field Training Exercise includes the validation of integrated battle groups, force multipliers, establishment and functioning of surveillance grids, validation of operational logistics, mountain warfare skills, casualty evacuation and combat medical aid in adverse terrain and climatic conditions. According to the Army, the joint exercise focuses on deploying an infantry battalion group in peacekeeping and disaster relief operations under the mandate of the US. The Yudh Abhyas is a 15-day-long exercise that will focus on high altitude and extremely cold climate warfare. In a first, Indian Army trains kites to destroy enemy drones

Chandigarh, May 17 () The Punjab Police has said eight of its 16 personnel, who had tested positive for COVID-19, were discharged from hospitals on Sunday after they recovered from the infection. Punjab Director General of Police Dinkar Gupta also said 20 district quarantine centres have been set up for the police personnel in the past one week, taking the total number of such centres to 78. Eight of the 16 coronavirus positive police personnel in the state were discharged from hospitals today after fully recovering from the infection, the DGP said. Gupta, in a statement, said the state police continued to scale up its protective and welfare measures for personnel on frontline duty. The DGP said a 110 personnel from the district police and 80 armed police personnel are currently in isolation at district quarantine centres. They came in contact with infected people while on duty. Another 90 district police personnel and 69 armed police personnel are under home quarantine, taking the total number of police personnel now in quarantine to 349, from the earlier 615. Total 266 police personnel had completed the mandatory quarantine period. "To ensure strict adherence with all protocols and uncompromising care for the well-being of the cops at the quarantine centres, close coordination is maintained with police nodal officers of the districts and doctors," the DGP said. New Delhi, In order to avoid any untoward incident at the protest site, farmers protesting against the three farm laws enacted by the Centre government at <keyword id="2802822" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Singhu-Border">Singhu border</keyword> have beefed up the security at <keyword id="10347936" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="singhu">Singhu</keyword> border and adjoining areas. Around 100 CCTV cameras at both the stages and many locations including the areas outside restrooms earmarked for women protestors have been installed along with heavy deployment of <keyword id="6393370" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Police-personnel">police personnel</keyword> near the <keyword id="6408743" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="barricades">barricades</keyword> close to the protest site. Two control rooms for monitoring of CCTV cameras have also been set up behind both the stages. The number of volunteers for security check at every entry and exit gates along with the way from Singhu village to <keyword id="1378314" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kundli-village">Kundli village</keyword> has also been increased. "Activities of people moving around are been monitored and volunteers are keeping a close watch on people coming from outside and farmers staying on tractor trollies. Since there are many cuts for entry and exit towards the villages so the volunteers have been deployed at every possible spot. Volunteers are also patrolling on tractors especially after the sun set," said Maninder Singh, a member of <keyword id="4544427" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="krantikari-kisan-union">Krantikari Kisan Union</keyword> in <keyword id="6354953" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="punjab">Punjab</keyword> who is also part of security management at Singhu. Whereas barricades put at four spots along the way from Singhu to Singhola village (Delhi-Chandigarh) highway were added with barbed wire after stone-pelting incidents. Drone cameras are been used by the security forces to monitor the situation. However, Delhi Police personnel along with the paramilitary forces deployed at the protest site have been decreased while the entry of visitors and mediapersons from the main gate is still banned.
