Delhi continued to battle with air pollution for the 10th consecutive day post-Diwali as a dense layer of smog blanketed parts of the national capital on Sunday. Several parts of the national capital recorded very poor air quality levels on Sunday morning as per the data issued by the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR-India). Today morning, Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 351, Bawana 383, CRRI Mathura Road 323, Dwarka Sector 8 at 341, IGI Airport at 326, ITO 328, Lodhi Road 319, Mundka at 358, Najafgarh at 341, New Moti Bagh at 394, Okhla phase-2 at 339, RK Puram at 368, and Wazirpur at 366, as per SAFAR-India data. As of 5 pm on November 10, Delhi's AQI stood at 334, with Anand Vihar at 353, Dilshad Garden at 262, and Jahangirpuri at 377. For tomorrow, AQI in adjoining cities of Noida and Gurugram is forecasted to be at 208.92 and 77.51, respectively. Multiple visuals from Delhi's Kartavya Path showed the area surrounding India Gate engulfed by a layer of smog. The AQI in the area was recorded at 357 as of 7 am. High-rise buildings were also covered in smog in the Kalindi Kunj and surrounding locality, as the AQI was recorded as 323 in the area. An AQI is considered "poor" between '200 and 300', "very poor" at '301 and 400', "severe" at '401-450," and 450 and above is "severe plus." As the air pollution levels in the national capital reach "very poor," doctors say that even people with no history of respiratory diseases are suffering from breathing issues. Dr. Nikhil Modi, Senior Consultant for Respiratory Critical Care at Apollo Hospital, told ANI that apart from the regular patients, those who haven't had any respiratory issues in the past are showing up with symptoms such as runny noses, sneezing, coughing, and having increasing difficulties breathing. As it is, respiratory illnesses in the national capital are estimated to have shot up by around 15-20%. The Apollo doctor further suggested that the government close the schools for children as they remain vulnerable. Whenever the pollution levels have gone beyond a certain limit, the government has opted to close the schools, Dr. Modi said. "For the last few years, we have been seeing that the government has taken action. Whenever this pollution level has gone beyond a certain limit, they have opted to close the schools. This is important because children are from a vulnerable group. As adults, we are masked and can protect ourselves better, but children usually are not that effectively taking these measures. Secondly, their lungs are still in developing stages, so they are bound to have more harm due to this pollution," the doctor told ANI. The stock of the company declined 4.09 per cent to trade at Rs 1,097.65 apiece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). On the BSE, scrip of Tata Motors dropped 3.69 per cent to trade at Rs 1,102.40 per piece. The 30-share BSE Sensex tumbled 767.65 points or 0.94 per cent to trade at 81,099.90, while NSE Nifty fell 206.70 points to 24,804.20. On Thursday, Tata Motors reported an 11 per cent year-on-year dip in total sales at 71,996 units in July. The company had sold 80,633 units in July 2023. Its total domestic sales dipped 11 per cent and stood at 70,161 units last month as against 78,844 units in the year-ago period. The auto major said its consolidated net profit increased 74 per cent to Rs 5,566 crore in the June 2024 quarter, aided by robust performance by Jaguar Land Rover as well as domestic business. It had posted a net profit of Rs 3,203 crore in the April-June quarter of last fiscal. The company's total income increased to Rs 1,09,623 crore for the period under review against Rs 1,03,597 crore in the June quarter in FY24. On a standalone basis, the automaker said its net profit stood at Rs 2,190 crore compared to a net loss of Rs 64 crore in the year-ago period. Total income rose to Rs 18,851 crore in the first quarter of the current fiscal against Rs 16,132 crore in the corresponding period of FY24. Jaguar Land Rover reported a revenue of 7.3 billion pounds, the best first-quarter revenue on record, up 5 per cent versus the June quarter of FY24. The company also said its board has approved the Scheme of Demerger of Tata Motors Ltd (TML) into two separate listed companies. As part of the scheme, TML will demerge its commercial vehicle undertaking, involving the commercial vehicle business (all the assets, liabilities and employees relating to the commercial vehicle business) and all its related investments, into TMLCV. Further, pursuant to the scheme, the existing passenger vehicle business in TMPV, will be merged into TML, the existing listed entity. Upon the scheme becoming effective, both TMLCV and TML will be renamed, resulting in two separate listed entities. Before 2022, it accounted for 10% of the global grain market, with 90% of that heading out to the world via the Black Sea, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.cfr.org/article/how-ukraine-overcame-russias-grain-blockade">according to the Council on Foreign Relations</a>.Despite the potential for economic warfare, Russia has good reason to avoid escalating the threat to shipping in the Black Sea, Ambrey wrote.Any escalation would have a knock-on effect on naval insurance premiums, which "would make trade with both Russia and Ukraine significantly more costly," it said.The UK MOD was scathing about the apparent accidental attack on the Aya."Launching a supersonic cruise missile on an incorrect heading against a likely erroneous target in international waters demonstrates extremely poor and irresponsible aviation practice," it said.
