The Rs 10,900 crore scheme will support 2,479,000 electric 2-wheelers, 316,000 electric 3-wheelers and 14,028 electric buses, along with 88,500 <keyword id="186291" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ev" source="Orion">EV</keyword> charging sites. Shailesh Chandra, President of <keyword id="108827" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="siam" source="Orion">SIAM</keyword> and Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd &amp; Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd, expressed strong support for the government's forward-thinking initiative. With continued focused support on 2Ws, 3Ws, e-buses and thoughtful addition of e-ambulances, the scheme will drive higher EV penetration in the country." The Union Cabinet, on Wednesday, cleared the 'PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM e-DRIVE) Scheme,' with a total outlay of Rs 10,900 crore over two years. It includes Rs 3,679 crore in subsidies and demand incentives for e-2Ws, e-3Ws, e-ambulances, e-trucks, and other emerging electric vehicles. It is expected to support the deployment of 24.79 lakh e-2Ws, 3.16 lakh e-3Ws, and 14,028 e-buses, providing a significant push to India's EV ecosystem. A critical aspect of the scheme is the introduction of e-vouchers for EV buyers. At the time of purchase, an Aadhaar-authenticated e-voucher will be generated, which will enable buyers to avail of demand incentives. Additionally, the scheme allocates Rs 500 crore for the deployment of e-ambulances, marking a new initiative to integrate electric vehicles into essential public services. Another Rs 4,391 crore has been earmarked for the procurement of 14,028 e-buses, with a demand aggregation process led by CESL in nine major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. Intercity and interstate e-buses will also be supported in consultation with states. Furthermore, Rs 500 crore has been set aside to incentivize the adoption of e-trucks, a critical move given that trucks are one of the largest contributors to air pollution. The scheme encourages those with a scrapping certificate from <keyword id="19897457" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-road-transport" source="keywords">Ministry of Road Transport</keyword> and Highways-approved (MoRTH) vehicle scrapping centres to participate in this transition. With an allocation of Rs 2,000 crore, the scheme will support the installation of 22,100 fast chargers for four-wheelers, 1,800 fast chargers for e-buses, and 48,400 fast chargers for two- and three-wheelers. These chargers will be installed in cities with high EV penetration and along selected highways, making long-distance EV travel more viable.

Automobile industry hails PM e-DRIVE scheme to promote EVs

New Delhi: The adoption of <keyword id="20643295" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Electric-two-wheeler" source="keywords">electric two-wheeler</keyword> vehicles in <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword> is on a gradual rise and it is expected that their share will rise to upwards of 13 per cent by 2026-27, investment banking company <keyword id="19905137" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jefferies" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Jefferies" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Jefferies">Jefferies</keyword> asserted in a report. In the financial year that ended in March 2024, the share of electric two-wheelers was at 5 per cent. Share of EVs in two-wheeler sales rose from just 0.4 per cent in 2020-21 to 5.4 per cent by early 2023, led by rising subsidies and new launches. However, Jefferies claimed that a subsequent reduction in incentives has resulted in the share remaining in the 4-7 per cent range for most of the past 24 months, despite the introduction of lower-priced vehicles by manufacturers. "We currently assume share of E2Ws rising from 5 per cent (0.9mn units) in FY24 to 7 per cent/10 per cent/13 per cent (1.4mn/2.3mn/3.4mn units) in FY25E/FY26E/FY27E, although we now see a downside risk to these estimates in the context of the new scheme targeting just 2.5mn E2Ws over two years," Jefferies said in its report released earlier this week. <keyword id="19897349" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola-Electric" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Ola Electric" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Ola Electric">Ola Electric</keyword>, which has recently become a publicly listed company, has emerged as the dominant manufacturer in India's electric two-wheelers market, said Jefferies, noting that its market share rose from 21 per cent in 2022-23 to 35 per cent in 2023-24 and further to 49 per cent in 1Q-2024-25. However, as per the Jefferies report, Ola's market share has subsequently fallen to 31 per cent in August and just 29 per cent in September (month-to-date). Bajaj, TVS and Ather, on the other hand, have gained 5-9 percentage points each since June quarter, it said. This week, the Union Cabinet has approved a scheme for the promotion of electric mobility in the country. The scheme has an outlay of Rs 10,900 crore over two years. The Cabinet's approval for the 'PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme' was based on a proposal from the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI). Among others, subsidies or demand incentives worth Rs 3,679 crore would be provided to incentivise e-2Ws, e-3Ws, e-ambulances, e-trucks and other emerging EVs. The scheme will support 24.79 lakh e-2Ws, 3.16 lakh e-3Ws, and 14,028 e-buses, a release said. The Ministry of Heavy Industries is also introducing e-vouchers for EV buyers to avail of demand incentives under the scheme.

Electric two-wheeler adoption in India rising, 13% share expected by 2026-27: Jefferies

New Delhi, Feb 24 () The agriculture ministry has roped in the government's e-governance services provider CSC SPV to fast-track registration of eligible farmers for Kisan Credit Card. Under the collaboration, around 3.65 lakh common service centres will enrol interested and eligible farmers for KCC, which provides them credit support for farming as well as non-farming activities. "CSC e-Governance India Ltd has been authorised by the agriculture ministry to register eligible farmers for KCC," CSC e-Governance India Ltd CEO Dinesh Tyagi told . Currently, 6.67 crore farmers across the country have been provided KCCs. The government has decided to provide benefit of KCC to all 9.7 crore farmers registered under the PM Kisan Scheme. "Evidently, 50 per cent of farmers do not have access to institutional credit under KCC. In order to facilitate institutional credit to all farmers across the country, the government has launched a special drive to cover all beneficiaries of the PM Kisan Scheme," Tyagi said. While details of the Scheme will be fetched through the the PM Kisan portal, the village-level entrepreneurs (VLEs) will enter other details of crop, allied activities and type of KCC. "Following the submission of details, the VLE will provide a printout of the acknowledgement to the farmer. The VLE will collect Rs 30 per farmer for this service," Tyagi said. PRS HRS

Agriculture Ministry ropes in CSCs to enrol farmers for Kisan Credit Card

Domestic passenger vehicle wholesales declined by about 2 per cent year-on-year in August as companies curtailed dispatches to reduce inventory at dealers amid a drop in demand. According to data issued by the industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (<keyword id="20185536" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SIAM" source="keywords">SIAM</keyword>), the total passenger vehicle dispatches in the domestic market stood at 3,52,921 units last month compared to 3,59,228 vehicles in August 2023, a dip of 1.8 per cent. Two-wheeler wholesales rose 9 per cent to 17,11,662 units last month against 15,66,594 units in the year-ago period, it added. Scooter dispatches last month climbed to 6,06,250 units from 5,49,290 units in August 2023, a growth of 10 per cent. Similarly, motorcycle dispatches from companies to dealers increased by 8 per cent to 10,60,866 units last month from 9,80,809 units in August 2023. The total three-wheeler sales grew 8 per cent to 69,962 units last month against 64,944 units a year ago. "Looking ahead, as the country enters the festive season, demand for vehicles is expected to grow, which will also be duly augmented by the recent announcements of PM E-DRIVE and PM-eBus Sewa Schemes of Government of India," SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon said. MOBILE COMMERCE IS DRIVING IN-STORE SALES: Mobile devices are actually leading people to do more shopping in stores, as they use them to find shops, products, and deals offline, according to a recent <a href="http://www.gallup.com/poll/168800/mobile-technology-increasing-retail-shopping.aspx?utm_source=tagrss&amp;utm_medium=rss&amp;utm_campaign=syndication">Gallup poll</a>. 
<ul>
<li>22% of consumers say mobile technology has increased their in-store shopping.</li>
<li>19% say it has decreased their store shopping, and 59% say it's made no difference in how they shop. </li>

For example, roughly 30% of consumers aged 19-29 say they are shopping more in stores because of smartphones and tablets. 
We think that its smartphones, rather than tablets, are the device that's driving in-store shopping. We recently <a href="https://intelligence.businessinsider.com/consumers-are-using-smartphones-to-browse-but-pcs-and-tablets-to-purchase-2014-4">analyzed some data</a> (see chart at right) from Digitas that showed that 42% of smartphone owners use their phones to conduct research about products, such as searching for where they can buy something. As retailers install more in-store technology such as beacons, which can send offers and coupons over Bluetooth, shoppers will likely rely on their smartphones even more in-store. 
GROUPON LAUNCHES BULK SHOPPING SERVICE: Groupon, which is synonymous for its daily deal offerings, is getting into the bulk shopping business with a new service called Groupon Basics. At launch, the service will have roughly 100 different products available (mostly in the home goods and personal care categories), <a href="http://www.internetretailer.com/2014/05/01/groupon-launches-bulk-shopping-service">according to Internet Retailer</a>. Groupon Basics will compete directly with Costco and Wal-Mart's Sam's Club. Groupon's advantage here is that it has a massive database of emails belonging to bargain-hunting consumers. Now Groupon has a business that lets it sell merchandise on a larger scale to that customer base. 
AMAZON EXPANDS SAME-DAY DELIVERY: Amazon is rolling out same-day delivery in Dallas, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, reports the <a href="http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2014/05/01/amazon-widens-same-day-delivery-service/">Wall Street Journal</a>. Customers will have to place an order by 12:15 p.m. local time to receive their package(s) by 9 p.m. that day. The new markets join nine other cities where Amazon currently offers same-day delivery. As <a href="https://intelligence.businessinsider.com/e-commerce-insider-shoppers-accept-beacons--improving-websites--ebay-in-store-2014-4">we noted yesterday</a>, fast delivery is one way that e-commerce companies are differentiating themselves from competitors. BLUE NILE SALES UP: Online jeweler Blue Nile <a href="http://investor.bluenile.com/">reported first quarter earnings</a> yesterday. Sales were up nearly 7% compared to the first quarter of 2013, topping more than $103 million. The company noted that sales of engagement rings grew faster than other product categories. Blue Nile CEO Harvey Kanter said on the call that they will continue expanding the company's bridal and diamond jewelry collection, and building out a presence in China. 
In a note to clients, investment bank Jefferies said it's expecting travel sales for the first quarter to come in "seasonally soft" as global travel trends "remain choppy." 
Charles Drucker, CEO of payments processor Vantiv, reported that the company's e-commerce business saw 30% volume growth in the first quarter - a sign of continuing consumer migration to e-commerce. 
Farfetch, an online marketplace for fashion boutiques, has raised $66 million in funding. The company is recording annual sales of $275 million, <a href="http://techcrunch.com/2014/04/30/farfetch-an-online-marketplace-for-designer-fashion-boutiques-raises-66m/">according to TechCrunch</a>, which represents annual growth of 100%. Farfetch CEO José Neves Farfetch said the investment will go towards expanding into new markets, such as Russia, Japan, and China.

Mobile Devices Are Actually Driving Store Sales, Not Hurting Them

Pitching India as the next Silicon Valley of the world as Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> launched <keyword id="2926829" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Digital-India-Week">Digital India Week</keyword> on Wednesday. And while he called for investments in building Digital India, he made a remark that actually makes us all think—“If Indians can work in <keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword>. Why can’t Google be made in India?” 
 
As per a report by ET, launching the project that aims at creating India that is digitally connected, he further added, “I dream of a Digital India where high-speed digital highways unite the nation....I dream of a Digital India where 1.2 billion connected Indians drive innovation...I dream of a Digital India where government is open and governance is transparent...I dream of a Digital India where technology ensures government is incorruptible...I dream of a Digital India where rural economy has access to e-healthcare...I dream of a Digital India where world looks to India for the next big idea.” 
 He noted, “Just like <keyword id="6354869" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="make-in-India">Make in India</keyword> is important, design in India is also important. The world recognises India's IT talent.” 
 
Aiming to connect the poor with technology, PM Modi said, “It is government's duty to make rural India benefit from digital drive. People used to debate why does a poor nation like India need to send satellites? But, now that satellites forecast weather, it benefits the poor farmer.” 
 
He further stated, “I am confident that all the citizens of this country will be able to fulfil their dreams through Digital India. We aim to change India's future. Demographic dividend needs digital strength.” 
 
He explained that importance of digital connectivity and emphasized that access to technology is extremely important for a poor, if India wanted to bridge the wide gap between its rich and poor. 
 
"We need to embrace the change that digital connectivity can bring. Now towns will come alongside places where the optical fibre network is present....Banking will soon go paperless....We can reduce the burden of students with Digital India...I can envision a world where people will store products in digital godowns," PM Modi said. 
 
He also noted that the project is extremely important for Modi’s efficient governance mantra—Minimum government and maximum governance. “E-governance is easy governance and economic governance. Thousands of protestors gathered around New York City Tuesday night, one night after a grand jury decided <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ferguson-police-officer-darren-wilson-not-indicted-2014-11">not to indict police officer Darren Wilson</a>, who shot and killed unarmed teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, in August.
As of around 10pm, protesters had reportedly blocked traffic near Wall Street, Times Square, the United Nations, the FDR Drive, Lincoln Tunnel, and numerous city bridges at various points in the evening.
They blocked all lanes of traffic on the FDR drive on Manhattan's east side:

Ferguson Protesters Create Mass Gridlock In New York City

<keyword id="6358599" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sunil-Mittal">Sunil Mittal</keyword>’s <keyword id="6354287" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharti-Airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword> is all set to invest $16 billion in IT infrastructure to offer telecom services to Indian citizens in rural and urban parts of the country. Mittal made the announcement during the launch of <keyword id="2926829" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Digital-India-Week">Digital India week</keyword>. 
 
"Digital India has power to transform the country in shortest time, also digitally native Modi the right man to lead the drive. Modi understands the power of technology and how it can transform the nation, connect the nation in shortest timeframe. Who better to lead it than our PM," Mittal said in a report by ET. 
 
Additionally, he said that the company will make significant contribution towards the Digital Indian initiative. "We will also ensure providing services such as e-health and e-education to Indian citizens," he added. 
 
He also noted that the company will also work towards offering 4G services pan India. It should be noted that in April 2012, Airtel had launched India's first 4G services in Kolkata. The teleco major now offers 4G services in Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mangalore, Pune, Chandigarh and Amritsar.

This figure plunged to 53% after the E. coli outbreak was first reported in late 2015.The public's perception hasn't recovered much over the last two years. As of August, just 47.2% of the general population saw Chipotle as above average or higher in terms of food quality and trustworthiness. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">Cowen</div></div></div>"We believe driving material upside to investor same store sales expectations has become increasingly difficult given that food quality was the brand's legacy differentiation," the analyst, Andrew M. Charles, wrote in the note, which downgraded Chipotle shares to underperform from market perform. "Further, we believe the proliferation of fast casual competition that have replicated Chipotle's playbook of an assembly line service format for speed, and high quality 'food with integrity' positioning across different cuisines present added challenges to improving quality perceptions," Charles continued. While Chipotle has positioned queso, which will debut nationwide on September 12, as a solution to its ongoing sales slump, Cowen analysts were unconvinced.
