The electric two-wheeler maker said it has initiated a network partner programme aimed at taking EV sales further into tier-2 and tier-3 cities, including urban pockets where EV penetration remains low. Under the initiative, the company has reportedly on-boarded 625 partners to expand its sales footprint across India, it said in a statement. The company further plans to have 1,000 partners ahead of the festive season this year, it added. <div type="twitter" handle="bhash" handlename="bhash" favoritecount="0" retweetcount="0" id="1839215479480549447"></div> Ola Electric said it aggressively plans to expand its network by on-boarding 10,000 partners, across sales and service, by the end of 2025. The company currently has around 800 company-owned stores, and with the network partner programme, it will have nearly 1,800 sales and service touch points ahead of the upcoming festive season. "Our D2C model has been extremely successful in driving sustainable business growth. The Network Partner Program will further amplify the benefits of our D2C network as it requires limited capital investment from partners and can be scaled up really fast," Ola Electric Chairman and MD Bhavish Aggarwal stated. While the company-owned stores will be the anchors of sales and service network, this programme will be instrumental in expanding the EV footprint deeper into the urban and rural markets, he added. "We will continue to expand and invest in our front-end network to accelerate EV adoption to #EndICEAge, and by the end of next year, will have 10,000 Network Partners across the country," Aggarwal said. The Tarun Mehta-led company has filed its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) with the Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The proposed IPO includes a fresh issue of shares worth ₹3,100 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) component of 2.2 crore shares by promoters and investors. <keyword id="20253467" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tarun-mehta" source="keywords">Tarun Mehta</keyword> and <keyword id="19993824" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="swapnil-jain" source="keywords">Swapnil Jain</keyword> will offload 10 lakh shares each. Ather Energy looks to raise ₹3,100 crore, files IPO papers with SEBI

The past few months at <keyword id="19956271" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ola-Electric-Mobility" source="keywords">Ola Electric Mobility</keyword> have been very eventful and happening. First came the company's <keyword id="19898327" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IPO" source="keywords">IPO</keyword> between August 2nd and 6th, looking to raise Rs 6,154 crore, which was oversubscribed around 4.45 times. The company listed on both BSE and NSE on August 9th, 2024, i.e. last Friday, and soared around 20% over its IPO price on its debut, trading at Rs 91.2 on NSE, up from its IPO price of Rs 76. At present, the company's stock is trading at Rs 133.08 on NSE, skyrocketing the company's total market capitalization to Rs 58,699 crore, as of August 16th, 2024. This also comes on the back of a slew of new electric motorbikes announced by the company yesterday, along with receiving a "buy" recommendation from brokerage house HSBC, which gave it a price target of Rs 140, and deemed it to be an opportunity "worth investing in", despite not being overly enthusiastic on India's EV penetration scene. Per the report, "EV manufacturing costs might fall significantly by FY27/28, while that for ICE scooters may go up due to emission standards, the cost to manufacture (BOM) an e2W may come down by Rs 30,000-40,000. This would make EVs competitive with traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) scooters even without subsidies, which we assume will fall from Rs 40,000 to Rs 10,000 over the same period". However, as the broker cautioned, this would not be without its share of challenges, which include intense competition from their petrol and diesel driven counterparts, uncertain regulatory environment, in-house battery manufacturing risks, slow EV penetration in India, which happens to be the world's second-largest two wheeler market, and more. Says Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities Ltd, "Despite receiving demand well below the street's expectation, <keyword id="6354720" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola" source="Orion">OLA</keyword> listed well above street expectations, which can be attributed to market mood. Post listing, the short term view remain same due to weak financials and risk of negative cash flows in future and allotted investors should understand the risk before holding, which could adversely impact its consolidated financial condition post listing. Considering all the factors, we advise only risk taking investors to continue to hold with a minimum holding period of 2-3 years. If the stock is available well below its issue price, we recommend risk taking investors to accumulate on every dip, and to be part of 2-3 years of its journey. The long term story is intact, but we may see a lot of ups and downs in the short term". <h2>New bikes in pipeline </h2> Yesterday, <keyword id="19897349" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ola-electric" source="keywords">Ola Electric</keyword> announced the launch of Roadster electric motorcycle, which will be available in three variants, namely Roadster, Roadster X and <keyword id="22807137" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="roadster-pro" source="keywords">Roadster Pro</keyword>. also announced that its 4680 Battery Cell, also popularly known as the Bharat Cell, will be integrated with all of Ola's own vehicles starting Q1FY26. The same stood at Rs 1,671 crore in the last quarter (Q4FY24), and at Rs 1,279 crore during the year ago period (Q1FY24). However, the company's losses after taxes widened to Rs 347 crore in Q1FY25, up from Rs 267 crore in Q1FY24, largely on the back of the rollback of FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles in India) scheme and the subsequent subsidy cuts. Per Agrawal, going ahead, the company's focus will be on improving its margins, and sustainability. However, there was a slight dip in its losses this quarter, as opposed to Rs 416 crore incurred by the company in Q4FY24. The company's share is currently witnessing a stellar run on the stock market, having rallied by over 74% in the last 5 days. At present, the company commands a 48.63% market share in the electric 2-wheeler market in India, up from 39% in Q4FY24, and 31% in Q1FY24. Ola Electric also saw a spike in the quantum of deliveries it made during the quarter. From delivering 70,575 units in Q1FY24, the company delivered 1,25,198 units for the quarter ended June 30th, 2024. This is also an uptick from its deliveries made during Q4FY24, which stood at 1,25,198. A point of concern, however, was the company's short-term operational efficiency, generally reflected by its EBITDA (Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) margins. While it is no secret that Ola has a very long way to go before it can achieve sustained profitability, its EBITDA margins significantly shrunk from a negative of 7.4% in Q4FY24, to just 2% for the quarter ended June 30th, 2024.

In an interaction with PTI editors at the agency's headquarters here, he said the private sector has to do the bulk of job creation, step up and do more, while creating an enabling environment and correcting imbalances, such as that of trade, are the responsibility of the government. Aggarwal also supported the government's move to offer fiscal incentives to global EV makers, including Tesla, through the new EV policy saying it is important for India to attract all kinds of investment, and globally established players will help in the development of the EV ecosystem in the country. "There is a global technology transition happening and AI is a very important technology of the future, and we in India need to lead this journey. If you look at the current state, I think we are still adopters of somebody else's technology paradigms, especially in the digital world," Aggarwal said, explaining why the Ola group had set up AI start-up Krutrim last year. One of the things in Krutrim is to build AI models on Indian data, which is more attuned to Indian use cases, Indian paradigms, he said, adding, "We are making our own AI, on our own cloud, on our own chip." Despite India producing 20 per cent of the world's digital data at present, he lamented that the country does not fully own the data, as 80 per cent are stored outside, which are then processed into AI and "brought back into India and sold to us in dollars". When asked about concerns over AI leading to job losses, he allayed the apprehension saying that the IT boom created jobs in India when people feared that computers would take away jobs, and AI is a similar tool. "AI is not going to replace anyone. Maybe that future is a few decades away... We don't need to get anxious about that future right now. We need to, as a country, see that AI is going to amplify productivity. If we don't get onto the bandwagon, we will be left behind...," he asserted. In his view, Aggarwal said the way forward is for India to become experts in future technology. "Future technologies bring with it jobs of the future, supply chain of the future. And if we are global leaders, we are the fastest adoptive market of future technologies (then) jobs of the future will be built in India, supply chains of the future will be built in India. This is the only way... If we focus on protecting the past, you remain uncompetitive," he added. Sharing his take on employment generation in India, Aggarwal said, "I actually believe the private sector has to do the bulk of the job creation. The government's job is to create the enabling environment, create the fundamentals, help correct imbalances wherever they are, be it trade imbalances, etc and incentivise wherever it needs to be incentivised, like the PLI schemes." The government's steps such as the employment-linked incentives will also encourage private industry, he said, adding "But fundamentally the private sector has to step up and do more". Asked if the government is doing enough to create that ecosystem for the private sector, Aggarwal said, "I'm not in the government, so I want to put the limelight on ourselves. Is the private sector doing enough? I think we all can do more, and I'm on the same page. We all need to do more." In response to a query on his views over the government in extending the fiscal concession that companies like Tesla have been demanding from India, he said, "It is very important for India to attract all kinds of investment, especially (from) world leading companies. "Tesla is a best in class company. The more companies like these invest into India, the better it is for India, in a broad sense as well for the industry." He further said, "The (EV) ecosystem, including my company, will benefit from it, because it will raise the bar on expertise, on excellence, on talent, everything..." About the newly-listed entity Ola Electric, he said, "Our mission at Ola electric is to really make India a global EV hub." The company will build products such as electric two and three-wheelers that Indians need for the country to be able to invent an EV and energy transition paradigm for itself, different from the current global solution for sustainability that is focussed on electric luxury cars, Aggarwal added. In the financial year that ended in March 2024, the share of electric two-wheelers was at 5 per cent. Share of EVs in two-wheeler sales rose from just 0.4 per cent in 2020-21 to 5.4 per cent by early 2023, led by rising subsidies and new launches. However, Jefferies claimed that a subsequent reduction in incentives has resulted in the share remaining in the 4-7 per cent range for most of the past 24 months, despite the introduction of lower-priced vehicles by manufacturers. "We currently assume share of E2Ws rising from 5 per cent (0.9mn units) in FY24 to 7 per cent/10 per cent/13 per cent (1.4mn/2.3mn/3.4mn units) in FY25E/FY26E/FY27E, although we now see a downside risk to these estimates in the context of the new scheme targeting just 2.5mn E2Ws over two years," Jefferies said in its report released earlier this week. <keyword id="19897349" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola-Electric" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Ola Electric" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Ola Electric">Ola Electric</keyword>, which has recently become a publicly listed company, has emerged as the dominant manufacturer in India's electric two-wheelers market, said Jefferies, noting that its market share rose from 21 per cent in 2022-23 to 35 per cent in 2023-24 and further to 49 per cent in 1Q-2024-25. However, as per the Jefferies report, Ola's market share has subsequently fallen to 31 per cent in August and just 29 per cent in September (month-to-date). Bajaj, TVS and Ather, on the other hand, have gained 5-9 percentage points each since June quarter, it said. This week, the Union Cabinet has approved a scheme for the promotion of electric mobility in the country. The scheme has an outlay of Rs 10,900 crore over two years. The Cabinet's approval for the 'PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme' was based on a proposal from the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI). Among others, subsidies or demand incentives worth Rs 3,679 crore would be provided to incentivise e-2Ws, e-3Ws, e-ambulances, e-trucks and other emerging EVs. The scheme will support 24.79 lakh e-2Ws, 3.16 lakh e-3Ws, and 14,028 e-buses, a release said. The Ministry of Heavy Industries is also introducing e-vouchers for EV buyers to avail of demand incentives under the scheme.

Electric two-wheeler adoption in India rising, 13% share expected by 2026-27: Jefferies

Shares of <keyword id="19956271" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ola-Electric-Mobility" source="keywords">Ola Electric Mobility</keyword> were in a freefall today, tanking about 4.55% on the NSE and 4.88% on BSE. Today also marked 30 days since the company was listed on the bourses (August 9th), bringing down shutters on the one-month lock-in window anchor investors are mandated to hold stocks for, before deciding to offload 50% of shareholding. Around 18.18 crore shares, or about 4% of company's outstanding shares were eligible for trading in the market post the 30-day lock-in, which hurtled Ola's stock towards Rs 100. While the stock managed to gain some ground later in the day, and was trading at Rs 114.10 when the markets closed today, slightly up from its intraday low of Rs 109. However, it still remained a far cry from its all-time high price of Rs 157.4, which it had hit on August 20th, 2024. Ola Electric, which currently dominates the Indian EV space, debuted on stock exchanges last month, and was looking to raise Rs 6,145.56 crore via fresh issue, along with an OFS (offer for sale) of 8.49 crore equity shares. The IPO was oversubscribed by around 4x. Going ahead, the Bhavish Aggarwal-led startup is also set to face intense competition from fellow EV maker Ather Energy. With its IPO set to hit the markets soo, Ather is looking to raise Rs 3,100 crore via fresh issue, and an OFS of about 2.2 crore equity shares. Per the DRHP (draft red herring prospectus) filed by Ather, its net worth for FY24 stood at Rs 545.9 crore. The remaining 50% of Ola Electric's shares will be eligible for offloading by anchor investors in 60 days from now, or 90 days since the date of allotment. While this event will certainly test Ola's buoyancy in the market, the fact remains that Ola was off to a stellar start days after its listing, when the stock price accelerated to Rs 157.4 on August 20th, 2024. This skyrocketed the company's valuation well beyond that of established Indian 2-wheeler giants like Hero Moto Corp and Bajaj, albeit briefly. In fact, for a small period, Ola Electric Mobility had recorded valuations higher than that of Tesla's. For perspective, Ola's market capitalization, as of today, stood at Rs 50,327.57 crore. Bajaj Auto, which listed on the exchanges in 2008, presently has a market value of Rs 3,02,993.79 crore, while Hero Moto Corp, which was listed in 2003, currently has a market value of Rs 1,14,788.59 crore. However, ever since hitting this peak on August 20th, Ola's prices have only been on a downward journey. However, now that the stock has witnessed a price correction of sorts, the question remains- has Ola corrected enough, or are we still in for further downside? As per SEBI registered Investment Advisor Gaurav Goel, Ola continues to trade in the expensive zone despite recent correction. "The recent mercurial rise in the stock has been more on the promise it holds for the future. It is the largest <keyword id="23099550" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="E-Scooter-Manufacturing" source="keywords">E-Scooter Manufacturing</keyword> company in India, with 31% market share in the E2W sector, selling 3,29,618 scooters in FY24. Recently, it also forayed into the motorcycle segment with several new “Roadster” models at an attractive pricing. It is building an Ola Gigafactory for cell production in Tamil Nadu, and a Battery Innovation Centre in Bangalore", Goel explained. "However, we feel that despite attractive future plans, the stock is currently overpriced. Despite rising revenues, we need to see how quickly it is able to translate widening losses into profits", he continued. <h2>Gaping holes, take a long-term approach </h2>It is hard to overlook the wide, year on year losses that the company continues to incur. As of March 2024, the company had racked up an operating loss of Rs 1,266 crore. Per its Q1FY25 financials, the company's losses before taxes during April-June 2024 grew to Rs 347 crore, up from Rs 267 crore in the year-ago period. The company's cash flows from operating activities continued to be in red, rising from Rs 2,520.25 crores in March 2021 to Rs 15,072.71 crore as of March 2023. Generally, if a company is regularly registering negative cash flows from its primary, operational activity, it is a troubling sign, indicating that the company is spending more than what its making. Ola continues to rack up major losses in its cell business, which reported a loss of Rs 5 crore in Q1FY25. The segment's operating expenses, however, doubled from Rs 11 crore in Q1FY24 to Rs 22 crore in Q1FY25. Per Agrawal, the indigenously developed 4680 Bharat Cell, which will be integrated in all Ola vehicles starting Q1FY26, will help in bettering the company's profit margins, given that cells constitute around 30-35% of overall vehicle's cost. Which is why experts suggest not to buy into any short-term euphoria surrounding the stock, and instead, opt for a long-term approach. While there is scope, it is largely unchartered waters, which will have to face the tides of multiple market volatilities and cycles, before it starts to generate sustainable, significant returns. Goel believes that while the new vehicle segment is a good space to enter, the competition here is going to be stiff. Customer actual response in terms of sales is yet uncertain. "We recommend a buy on dips on this stock. An entry level of Rs 100 would be good point for purchase. It should be kept for the long-term, for a period of at least 3-5 years for realization of its potential"

The Bhavish Aggarwal-led company is looking to raise ₹5,500 crore through a fresh issue of shares. Additionally, the IPO also includes an offer for sale (OFS) component of 9.52 crore shares. The company has also kept an option to raise ₹1,100 crore via pre-IPO placement. As part of OFS, Aggarwal will offload 4.7 crore equity shares, which is around half of the OFS component. Apart from this, companies such as Indus Trust, Kaha Wave Ventures, MacRitchie Investments, Alpine Opportunity Fund, Matrix Partners India Investments, and others will divest some shares. According to the draft papers, out of the funds raised, ₹1,226.4 crore will be used for capital expenditure and ₹800 crore will be used to repay debt. The company will spend around ₹1,6000 crore on research and development and ₹350 crore on growth initiatives. Ola Electric has emerged as the leading electric two-wheeler maker in the country and has been leading the market for a long time now. The company occupies around half of the market share. Ola Electric gets SEBI approval for ₹5,500 crore IPO

Although it did not divulge the size of the deal, market watchers say that at BT's valuation of roughly USD 15 billion dollars, the deal could be in the ballpark of USD 4 billion. The shares will be purchased through Bharti Televentures UK, which is wholly-owned by Bharti Global. Bharti Televentures UK has inked an agreement with Altice UK to acquire about 9.99 per cent stake of BT Group's issued capital imminently with the rest about 14.51 per cent of BT's share capital is to be acquired post regulatory clearances. Telecom billionaire Patrick Drahi's Altice UK, the largest shareholder in BT, has been struggling with high debt. "Bharti Global, the international investment arm of Bharti Enterprises, a leading Indian business group with world-class companies in telecoms, digital infrastructure and space communications, has reached an agreement to acquire an interest in 24.5 per cent of the issued share capital of BT Group plc from Altice UK," Bharti said in a release. Bharti hopes the investment will further help create new synergies in the telecom sector between India and UK in the areas of AI and <keyword id="19916120" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5G" source="keywords">5G</keyword> R&amp;D and core engineering among others, "offering great potential to collaborate on industry best practices and emerging technologies". It is pertinent to mention here that Bharti and BT have a relationship going back more than two decades. In 1997, BT acquired a 21 per cent stake in Bharti Airtel, and hence Bharti's latest move to acquire a 24.5 per cent chunk in the iconic British company marks a defining moment for the Indian telecom conglomerate. Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman of Bharti Enterprises said: "Bharti and British Telecom (BT) have an enduring relationship going back more than two decades wherein BT owned 21 per cent stake along with two board seats in Bharti Airtel Limited from 1997-2001. Bharti's investment in BT aims to support the commitment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards his vision in elevating and broadening the India-UK ties, the release said. It noted that during the recently concluded visit of UK Foreign Secretary, David Lammy to India, the UK-India Technology Security Initiative was announced to expand collaboration in critical and emerging technologies across priority sectors including telecom. Sunil Mittal said: "This investment in BT aims to support the commitment of our Prime Minister towards his vision in elevating and broadening the India-UK ties. Ola group to invest ₹7,614 cr in TN for lithium ion cell, EV cars

<ul><li>The government has announced a new scheme aimed at increasing investment in the EV market.</li><li>The scheme is aimed at increasing domestic EV manufacturing by offering a short-term reduction in import duty.</li><li>This is expected to pave the way for <keyword id="6355315" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="elon-musk" source="Orion">Elon Musk</keyword>’s <keyword id="107096" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tesla" source="Orion">Tesla</keyword> in India.</li></ul>In what may come as a big boost to Tesla’s plans to enter India, the Indian government has announced a new scheme aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing of electric vehicles. The Indian government aims to achieve the dual goal of promoting less-polluting EVs as well as ensuring ‘make-in-India’ through the upcoming policy changes. The lower import taxes on certain electric vehicles are contingent on companies committing an investment of at least $500 million in setting up manufacturing facilities within three years. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Here’s what the new policy entails" comment="subhead" text="Here’s what the new policy entails">Here’s what the new policy entails</cmsannotation> As part of this policy, companies will be able to import a limited number of electric vehicles in India. These companies will have to invest a minimum of $500 million to establish local manufacturing facilities within three years. Additionally, at least 25% of the components will have to be sourced domestically within three years and at least 50% within five years. Companies that follow this will be allowed to import 8,000 completely built-up (CBU) electric cars per year at an import duty of 15% on cars costing above $35,000 (approx. ₹28.99 lakh). At present, India levies a tax of 70% to 100% on imported cars, based on their value. This means that the import duty has been reduced by up to 85% for companies under this scheme. New EV Policy: Elon Musk’s Tesla may soon enter India as import taxes slashed for electric vehicles

Leading US asset manager <keyword id="174755" type="General" weightage="70" keywordseo="vanguard" source="Orion">Vanguard</keyword> has further slashed its holding in ride-hailing major <keyword id="6354720" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ola" source="Orion">Ola</keyword> by more than half, which takes the Bhavish Aggarwal-run company's valuation down to nearly $3.5 billion from $7.3 billion at the end of 2021. According to a TechCrunch report, citing Vanguard's filings, the investment firm has cut the worth of its shares in Ani Technologies, Ola's holding firm, by 51.6%. "The asset manager marked down the holding of its Ola shares to $25 million, from the $51.7 million purchase price years ago, the filings showed," according to the report. Vanguard had valued its Ola's shares at about $33.8 million in February this year. In May, Vanguard had slashed Ola's valuation by 35% amid global macroeconomic conditions, reducing its valuation to about $4.8 billion. Ola has raised more than $3.9 billion over the years, according to public data. IPO-bound Ola Electric has also recorded an operating loss of $136 million (roughly Rs 1,116 crore) and revenue of $335 million (roughly Rs 2,750 crore), missing its revenue goal disclosed publicly. The company reported sales of over 1,50,000 electric scooters for FY23, according to a Reuters report. In the first two months of FY23, Ola Electric claimed to have surpassed Rs 500 crore in revenue and was on track to surpass $1 billion by year's end. In January, Ola laid off 200 employees from its <keyword id="6362049" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ola-cabs" source="Orion">Ola Cabs</keyword>, Ola Electric and Ola Financial Services verticals as part of the "restructuring" exercise. Ola joins a growing list of Indian unicorns who have significantly lost their valuations.
