The foreign investors made a net purchase of <keyword id="19925781" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="equities" source="keywords">equities</keyword> amounting to Rs 4,897.16 crore, according to data from the <keyword id="20070086" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Securities-Depository-Limited" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="National Securities Depository Limited" meta.hostid="83" meta.entityid="National Securities Depository Limited">National Securities Depository Limited</keyword> (<keyword id="20519694" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NSDL" source="keywords">NSDL</keyword>). This marks a significant shift from the previous week (August 12-17), when <keyword id="20015748" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="foreign-portfolio-investors" source="keywords">foreign portfolio investors</keyword> were net sellers, offloading equities worth Rs 7,769.73 crore. Despite this week's positive inflow, the overall net investment by foreign investors in August remains negative. So far this month, foreign investors have sold equities worth Rs 16,305 crore in the Indian market. This trend highlights the volatility in foreign investment patterns during the month. Interestingly, while foreign investors were net sellers in August, <keyword id="20148367" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="domestic-investors" source="keywords">domestic investors</keyword> played a crucial role in supporting the Indian stock market. According to official data from the National Stock Exchange (<keyword id="20004725" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NSE" source="keywords" topicspecial.url="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/marketstats/pid-40,exchange-nse,sortby-value,sortorder-desc.cms">NSE</keyword>), domestic investors have consistently bought into Indian stocks, purchasing equities worth Rs 47,080.38 crore in August. This strong domestic participation has provided stability to the market amid the fluctuating foreign investment trends. "It is essential for policymakers to continue fostering an environment that encourages domestic investment while ensuring that foreign investors remain an integral part of the market. Balancing the interests of both domestic and foreign investors will be key to sustaining growth and stability in the Indian stock market. From 6.6 % in December 2012, India's share in the MSCI EM Index has gone up to 20 % plus in August 2024" said Ajay Bagga, Banking and Market Expert. Earlier in July, net foreign investments in the Indian stock market reached Rs 32,365 crore as the foreign investors were net buyers, as per data from the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL). This marked a continuation of strong foreign interest following June, when Foreign Portfolio Investors (<keyword id="19930635" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FPIs" source="keywords">FPIs</keyword>) purchased Indian stocks worth Rs 26,565 crore on a cumulative basis. FPIs, which involve investors acquiring foreign financial assets, play a significant role in influencing market dynamics by channeling substantial funds into the Indian equity market.

Foreign investors return to Indian stocks with net investment of Rs 4,897 crore this week

As the <keyword id="115551" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-equities">Indian equities</keyword> continued to scale new highs post the <keyword id="6360189" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="union-budget">Union Budget</keyword> for FY22, the net foreign portfolio investments (<keyword id="725142" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="FPI">FPI</keyword>) into the Indian equities in February was ₹25,787 crore. The <keyword id="10842554" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="total-net-fpis">total net FPIs</keyword> in 2020 now stand at ₹45,260 crore, as per <keyword id="77072" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="NSDL">NSDL</keyword> data. Foreign investments have continued to flow in post the Union Budget which announced further liberalisation measures including privatisation of banks and also did not come up with a new tax levy. So far, in the financial year 2021-22, net FPIs into equities stood at ₹2.63 lakh crore, the highest ever FPI inflow into the country. Further, the net foreign institutional investment (FII) during the month was ₹42,044.46 crore. The rising foreign investments have also led to the strengthening of the Indian rupee. However, the recent bond yield surge both in the US and the domestic market have caused a frenzy in among the investors leading to bear run in the stock markets. FPI invests ₹25,787 crore in Indian equities in February

<ul><li><keyword id="3489555" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="upstox">Upstox</keyword>, the second largest stock broker in India, has suffered a massive data breach.</li><li>This breach has exposed user data like Aadhaar, PAN, bank account numbers and more.</li><li>While Upstox did not comment on the data leak, it said it has upgraded its security systems ‘manifold’ on the recommendations of a global cyber-security firm.</li></ul> Popular discount broker Upstox has suffered a massive data breach that has exposed some important data like Aadhaar, PAN and bank account numbers, apart from other personally identifiable information like mobile numbers and email addresses. Upstox is a Delhi-based discount stock broker that allows its customers to buy and sell shares. It is backed by Tiger Global and has over <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/what-made-upstox-indias-second-largest-stockbroker-after-zerodha/articleshow/78745921.cms">1 million customers</a>. “We have upgraded our security systems manifold recently, on the recommendations of a global cyber-security firm. We brought in the expertise of this globally renowned firm after we received emails claiming unauthorised access into our database,” Upstox <a href="https://upstox.com/announcements/customer-support/security-measures/">said</a> on its website, reacting to reports of the data breach. The company said that despite the data breach, the funds and shares of its customers are safe. This is for two reasons – funds in your Upstox account can only be withdrawn to the linked bank account, and the shares are held with the depositories – either Central Depositories Services India Ltd (CDSL) or National Securities Depository Ltd (NSDL) – and not with Upstox. With that being said, Upstox users have other things to be worried about. Security researcher Rajshekhar Rajaharia, who <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/over-100-million-debit-and-credit-card-users-data-has-been-leaked-online-from-payments-processor-juspay-amazon-and-swiggy/articleshow/80096472.cms">had earlier tipped Business Insider about Juspay</a> and MobiKwik data breaches, told us that the <keyword id="11082460" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Upstox-data-breach">Upstox data breach</keyword> includes Aadhaar, PAN, passport, bank account numbers, mobile numbers and even the photos of signatures. This data could be used by hackers or malicious parties to impersonate users and transact on their behalf without the users’ knowledge. According to Rajaharia, the Upstox data breach was executed due to a compromised Amazon Web Service (AWS) key used by the company. He says that the same AWS key vulnerability was exploited in the MobiKwik data breach as well. Rajaharia shared a data sample with us – the sample revealed user details as reported in the breach. However, we could not verify the authenticity of the sample. The hacking group, ShinyHunter, has taken down the data for now. Upstox is the latest in Indian companies being targeted by hackers The Upstox data breach is the latest in a string of Indian companies being hacked – the most recent ones were MobiKwik, Juspay, ClickIndia, ChqBook, WedMeGood, among others. However, this time around, the Upstox data breach could be a result of its own folly. Discount broker Upstox suffers data breach – Aadhaar, PAN and bank account numbers leaked

The I-T department has developed a mobile app for paying taxes and tracking refunds and is considering issuing PANs on real time basis using Aadhaar biometric. 
 "Income Tax department is considering issuing of Permanent Account Number (PAN) on a real time basis using Aadhaar's e-KYC facility. The proposal is at an initial stage of consideration," Minister of State for <keyword id="25455" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="finance">Finance</keyword> <keyword id="258592" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Santosh-Kumar-Gangwar">Santosh Kumar Gangwar</keyword> said in a written reply to the <keyword id="6355187" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> today. 
 
Besides, he said a mobile app "for paying taxes online has been developed. The mobile application has the functionality to pay taxes and track refunds".

 He said the PAN allotment system of the I-T department is integrated with the <keyword id="6376435" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ministry-of-corporate-affairs">Ministry of Corporate Affairs</keyword>' portal for allotment at the time of incorporation of a company. 
 "A turn-around-time of 4 hours is prescribed for allotment of PAN after receipt of PAN application from <keyword id="6355225" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="MCA">MCA</keyword> portal to PAN service provider <keyword id="77072" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="NSDL">NSDL</keyword> eGov portal," he said.

 Besides, the tax department has started online PAN application facility using digital signature certification or Aadhaar based e-signature. "Also, online paperless PAN application facility using Aadhaar based e-KYC and e-signature is available through the websites of PAN services providers NSDL eGov and UTIITSL. In this facility, Aadhaar data is used for allotment of PAN and there is no need to upload scanned copies of any document," <keyword id="388942" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="gangwar">Gangwar</keyword> said. 
 
The aadhaar-based e-KYC facility would allow individuals or entities wanting to apply for PAN to verify details such as date of birth or address by way of biometric identification using thumb impressions.

So far, more than 111 crore Aadhar numbers have been issued. The unique identification number is being used for getting a new SIM card, for opening bank accounts, transfer of subsidies and also for biometric-based digital payments under Aadhaar Enabled Payment System. 
 
As per the government estimate, every year 2.5 crore people across the country apply for PAN cards. 
 
There are more than 25 crore PAN card holders in the country.

Tax dept app to track refunds; plans issuing PAN in real time

Mumbai, Mar 1 () Sterling &amp; Wilson, is betting big on data centre business and expects this segment to contribute significantly to the group's topline and close the fiscal year 2020-21 with a revenue of Rs 800 crore, a senior company official said. Sterling &amp; Wilson is a joint venture between the multi-billion-dollar Shapoorji Pallonji Group and the Khurshed Daruvala family. The Pallonji family owns 67 per cent in the company, while 33 per cent is owned by the Khurshed Daruvala family. From an order book of Rs 170 crore in FY18, and a revenue of Rs 160 crore, Sterling &amp; Wilson's data centre business is on course to close the current fiscal with an order book of Rs 900 crore, clocking a revenue of Rs 400 crore. "We're already the largest data centre EPC contractor in the country, offering turnkey projects. With the massive investments coming into this segment from big domestic corporates and also foreign companies, we see huge potential for data centre business. "I expect our data centre vertical to contribute significantly to the group topline over the years and close fiscal 2021 with an order book of Rs 1,500 crore and revenue of Rs 800 crore," Khurshed Daruvala, the chairman of Sterling &amp; Wilson told . He said the optimism comes from the average 30 per cent growth that the industry is witnessing and huge investments are also likely to flow into this sector. It can be noted that the Adani Group had last year announced USD 10-billion investment into data centres, making it the largest in the space. Though it still remains in the pipeline, the announcement shows the scope of the market, which is also growing as large companies are moving to the cloud as part of their strategy to manage space as well as cost. From a revenue perspective, in FY18, the data centre business had an order book of a just Rs 170 crore, on which it had earned a revenue of Rs 160 crore. In FY19, revenue doubled to Rs 265 crore, he said. The company has already built data centres of Vodafone and the NSE in Chennai and NSDL in Bengaluru and is also building data centres for some of the world's major cloud service providers. Last year, it commissioned the Rs 450-crore State Data Centre in Jaipur for the Rajasthan government, which is the largest such facility in the public sector in the country. It has also bagged a USD 30-million state contract from Egypt. Meanwhile, Daruvala expects data centre expansion to also boost his captive power business through industrial gensets, where his company is already the second largest player, in the large capacity segment, after Cummins. The genset business contributed Rs 760 crore to the topline in FY19. It can be noted that S&amp;W installed the country's largest captive power units at the Delhi international airport powered by 42 MVA. S&amp;W is also the country's largest MEP (mechanical, electrical and public health engineering) contractor serving primarily hotels, malls, airports, metros and data centres.
