<ul><li>In a positive move during tough times, American IT multinational <keyword id="28721" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cognizant">Cognizant</keyword> announced that it will pay 25% more on the base salary for the month of April to its employees in India and the Philippines today, March 27. </li><li>Cognizant said it will pay the additional salary to those up to the Associate level, which is nearly two-thirds of the company’s total workforce in India. </li><li>The IT giant claims to have provided new laptops and encrypting desktops for those working remotely, along with air cards for connectivity.</li></ul>In a positive move during trying times, American IT multinational Cognizant announced that it will pay 25% more on the base salary for the month of April to its employees in India and the Philippines as a <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/ites/cognizant-to-give-two-thirds-of-employees-25-more-in-base-pay-for-working-in-coronavirus-pandemic/articleshow/74841779.cms">“sign of gratitude”</a> for their consistent efforts even during the pandemic. While several companies have been assuring employees that there will be no impact on their salaries during the lockdown, Cognizant said it will bump wages for those up to the Associate level. That’s almost two-thirds of the company’s 200,000-strong workforce in India. “Despite this turbulence, which affects both you and your families, you have risen to the challenge of serving our clients with empathy, initiative, integrity, and courage — all while supporting and uplifting one another. The company said it will review salaries every month after April, as per the situation. This comes as most of the teams are working from home, across its offices. Cognizant bumps up wages by 25% for associates as a ‘sign of gratitude’ during Coronavirus lockdown

That has affected the gig economy the worst. According to a survey by job search platform Indeed, half of the Indian businesses already trimmed the contractual workforce and freelancers to cut operational costs. Employment and employer services have changed ever since the crisis took over. As many as 83% of businesses are working on contingency plans. “It includes frequent communication protocols and technological infrastructure to ensure seamless remote working,” the survey said. And, two in five small and medium businesses are expected to go for remote hiring. “Resilience is being displayed by many employers who are exploring new ways to ensure their workforce is able to function seamlessly. Our data shows that remote working and work from home searches have been steadily increasing also, indicating jobseeker expectation mirrors these measures,” said Sashi Kumar, MD at Indeed India. Two new <keyword id="13825644" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Omicron-subvariants" source="Orion">Omicron subvariants</keyword> are on the rise in the United States, adding to concern of health experts whether they may fuel a summer surge in COVID-19 cases. The subvariants, known as BA.4 and BA.5, were estimated to make up nearly 13 per cent of all new US COVID-19 cases in the latest week ending June 4, the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on Tuesday. BA.4 made up 5.4 per cent of the new cases, while BA.5 made up 7.6 per cent, according to CDC estimates. The two subvariants represented the highest percentage of cases in a region that includes Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana, according to the CDC, Xinhua news agency reported. Another subvariant BA.2.12.1, which remains the dominant variant in the country, made up 62.2 per cent of all new US cases in the past week following months of steady growth. The BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants were added to the <keyword id="43588" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="world-health-organization" source="Orion">World Health Organization</keyword>'s monitoring list in March and designated as variants of concern by the <keyword id="668044" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="European-Centre-for-Disease-Prevention-and-Control" source="Orion">European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control</keyword>. CDC data showed they were present in all US regions. Evidence suggests the new subvariants are yet-more contagious versions of <keyword id="1609796" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="omicron" source="Orion">Omicron</keyword>, which may be able to dodge antibodies from earlier infection well enough to trigger a new wave, health experts said. "BA.4 and 5 may end up becoming the dominant Omicron lineages in the coming weeks or months," said Nathan Grubaugh, an associate professor of epidemiology at Yale University's School of Public Health. The United States is currently averaging about 108,000 COVID-19 cases and 300 deaths each day, the latest CDC data showed. Health experts believe the real number is significantly higher as increasing at-home testing results had not been tracked. Some epidemiologists warned surging cases may put people with compromised health at risk and can also expose many infected people to long-term health problems. Fakir Chand Kohli, the founder and the first CEO of <keyword id="6357585" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-consultancy-services">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword> (TCS), passed away on Thursday after reportedly suffering a heart attack. He was 96. A recipient of the Padma Bhushan, Kohli is called the 'Father of Indian IT Industry' and is credited for pioneering the technology revolution in India. Mourning the passing of Kohli, TCS, in statement, noted that Kohli joined the company in 1969 at the behest of J.R.D. Tata. He pivoted the first into management consultancy, and then over the next two decades, into software development, helping the organisation navigate multiple technology waves over two and a half decades by continually investing in people and staying relevant to customers, it said. Kohli stepped down as TCS' CEO in 1996 and continued to play an active role in promoting technology to solve the country's social problems. <keyword id="46894" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword> Chairman N. Chandrasekaran said: "I am deeply saddened by the news that Mr F.C. Kohli passed away this afternoon. He was a true legend, who laid the very foundations for India's spectacular IT revolution and set the stage for the dynamic modern economy we enjoy today." He said that Kohli led innovations in areas far-ranging from adult literacy, water purification, software engineering, software automation, complex systems and cybernetics. "I have had the honour and privilege of working with and learning from Mr. Kohli from the day he hired me as a trainee in TCS. Despite his momentous achievements, his simplicity and thoughtfulness is a lesson for us all. His enduring optimism and his ability to make ambitious bets leaves a legacy - one that has advanced a nation," Chandrasekaran said. TCS CEO and Managing Director Rajesh Gopinathan described Kohli as a true visionary, showing amazing foresight in harnessing the rich engineering talent available in India to create an entire new industry that defied all odds and grew to be a global powerhouse. TCS' former CEO S. Ramadorai said that Kohli was a brilliant technocrat and a business leader with varied interests. He was passionate about the development of the nation and its youth, he added. Industry body NASSCOM said: "A true visionary and the father of the Indian software industry - FC Kohli will always be remembered for his pioneering contributions to the sector and remarkable leadership at NASSCOM. Our condolences to his family." He was the President of NASSCOM during 1995-96. Kohli was born in Peshawar, where he did his schooling and did his college-level education in Lahore. On Tuesday, the US stocks surged to a fresh lifetime-high as investors cheered the transition to the Biden administration. The Dow Jones Industrial Average scaled the 30,000 mark for the first time ever, and the S&amp;P 500 ended up 1.62%. These are the stocks to watch out for during the trading session today: RIL The telecom subsidiary Jio of Mukesh Ambani owned RIL has received the subscription amount of ₹33,737 crore from Google International LLC. Jio Platforms Limited has allotted equity shares to Google International, following which it now holds 7.73% of the fully-diluted equity share capital of Jio Platforms. The shares of RIL ended 1.04% higher on Tuesday. Muthoot Finance The RBI has turned down the proposal of Muthoot Finance to acquire IDBI Bank’s mutual fund business, saying sponsoring a mutual fund is not under the activity of an operating NBFC. According to a regulatory filing by IDBI Bank on Tuesday, a share purchase agreement with regard to the sale of IDBI Mutual Fund to Muthoot Finance was signed on November 22, 2019. The shares of Muthoot Finance ended 1.12% lower on Tuesday. Tata Chemicals Tata Chemicals announced that it had appointed N Chandrasekaran as an additional director and chairman of the board of directors of the company, effective November 24. Chandrasekaran also chairs the boards of several other Tata companies, including Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Power, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The shares of Tata Chemicals ended 3% higher on Tuesday. Lasa Supergenerics The Bombay High Court restrained Lasa Supergenerics competitors from manufacturing and dealing in Albendazole. It is one of the key products that make it a market leader worldwide. The shares of Lasa Supergenerics ended 6% higher on Tuesday. Glenmark The S&amp;P has affirmed Glenmark’s rating at BB- while the outlook has been revised to stable. The shares of Glenmark ended 0.24% higher on Tuesday. Ingersoll Rand India The Ingersoll Rand India OFS for non-retail investors was subscribed 2.73 times compared to the shares on offer. The shares of Ingersoll Rand India ended 7% lower on Tuesday. Sreeleathers The board of Sreeleathers approved buyback of up to 20 lakh shares worth ₹32 crore. The shares of Sreeleathers ended 0.64% higher on Tuesday. <ul><li><keyword id="8555" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata">Tata</keyword> Sons, which is the joint owner of <keyword id="2467342" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vistara">Vistara</keyword> with <keyword id="6368386" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="singapore-airlines">Singapore Airlines</keyword>, is in talks to purchase a controlling stake in struggling carrier <keyword id="6358200" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="jet-airways">Jet Airways</keyword>. </li><li>The Indian conglomerate is reported to be mulling an all-stock merger between SIA Airlines, the parent company of Vistara, and Jet Airways. </li><li>However, the deal is contingent on the majority owner of Jet Airways, <keyword id="122732" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Naresh-Goyal">Naresh Goyal</keyword>, relinquishing control of the airline. </li><li>The chairman of Tata Sons, N. Chandrasekaran, will reportedly make a case for the Jet Airways deal to the rest of the conglomerate’s managing board today. </li></ul> India’s media outlets have been rife in recent days with news that Tata Sons, one of the country’s largest conglomerates and joint owner of Vistara with Singapore Airlines, is in talks to purchase a controlling stake in <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/jet-airways-has-a-plan-to-stave-off-a-potential-bankruptcy/articleshow/65992075.cms">struggling carrier Jet Airways</a>. If successful, the combined entity will be one India’s largest airlines, giving Tata Sons a firmer grasp of the country’s aviation sector. In fact, Tata Sons is reported to be mulling an all-stock merger between SIA Airlines, the parent company of Vistara, and Jet Airways as <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/transportation/airlines-/-aviation/tata-sia-airlines-eyes-all-stock-merger-of-vistara-with-jet-airways/articleshow/66628400.cms">the potential first step </a>to a two-part transaction, according to the Economic Times. This leg of the deal will likely involve a share swap. The second part of the deal, however, is where it gets tricky for Jet Airways. Tata Sons wants Naresh Goyal, the promoter of Jet Airways, to relinquish his control of the company and possibly <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/companies/tata-sons-jet-airways-deal-only-if-naresh-goyal-gives-up-board-seat-118111501545_1.html">give up his board seat</a>. As a result, the second step could involve a complete buyout of Goyal’s stake in the combined entity by Singapore Airlines. The impetus is clear. Rather than giving Goyal a fresh round of funds to do as he pleases, Tata Sons wants the ability to implement strict cost control and restructuring measures at the airline. Goyal isn’t expected to cash out easily, but if that’s the only hurdle preventing a rescue of Jet Airways, it may be the most prudent thing to do. The most plausible scenario will see him and his partner in Jet Airways, Etihad Airlines, end up with a minority stake. The Goyal family currently holds a 51% stake in the airline while Etihad has a 24% share. The deal has its pros and cons for Tata Sons. By gaining access to Jet’s fleet of aircraft, national and international routes, flight facilities and landing licenses, Tata Sons will become a bigger force to reckon with in the industry. Vistara, on the other hand, will benefit from the added heft of a number of cross-country routes. However, Jet is dangerously close to insolvency. Not only will Tata Sons have to take responsibility for Jet’s debts and, but it will also have to pump a significant amount of capital to turn around the troubled airline. Wide support It seems that India’s capital markets are in mood to cheer the deal. Jet Airways’ shares on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose by <a href="https://www.google.co.in/search?q=jet+airways+share+price&amp;rlz=1C1GCEU_enIN820IN820&amp;oq=jet+airways+share+price&amp;aqs=chrome.0.0l6.4874j0j7&amp;sourceid=chrome&amp;ie=UTF-8">27% </a>on 15 November as reports surfaced that Tata Sons was conducting due diligence on Jet Airways came to light. In addition, the Indian government is also said to be in favour of the deal. In fact, according to a <a href="https://www.bloombergquint.com/global-economics/tata-said-to-have-been-asked-by-modi-to-explore-buying-jet-stake#gs.MEU1Mas">Bloomberg report</a>, the Narendra Modi administration urged Tata Sons to consider the deal, and possibly add a sweetener in the form of a haircut on Jet Airways’ loans to state-run banks. It is no secret that India’s aviation sector is in <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/indias-largest-passenger-airline-just-posted-its-first-ever-quarterly-loss-since-going-public-and-its-results-reflect-the-larger-woes-of-the-countrys-aviation-sector/articleshow/66362156.cms">the doldrums</a> owing to the recent surge in fuel prices, and the government doesn’t want to risk the failure of a large airline as it heads into election year. The chairman of Tata Sons, N. Indian conglomerate Tata is in talks to buy out troubled carrier Jet Airways in a deal that  could create one of the country's largest airlines

There are so many things that one can learn from <keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword>, and the art of keeping employees motivated is one of them. On Friday, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/ratan-tata-is-not-stepping-down-from-tata-trusts-rubbishes-reports/articleshow/56018782.cms">chairman of Tata Trusts</a> called all employees of the Tata group "inheritors and custodians of the Trusts" and of its "belief in making a sustainable change" in society. 
 The <keyword id="123235" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Charitable-Trust">charitable trust</keyword> owns 66% of <keyword id="46894" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword>, which is the holding entity of all companies controlled by the conglomerate that deals in a variety of interests, ranging from salt, cars, technology and steel.

It’s also the 125th year of the philanthropic organization. 
 
It was in 1892 that Tata Trusts was set up, in the form of the JN Tata Endowment, followed by Sir Ratan Tata trust in 1919, Sir Dorabji Tata Trust in 1932, the JRD Tata Trust in 1944, the Navajbai Ratan Tata Trust Jamsetji Tata Trust in 1974 and lastly, the Tata Education and Development Trust in 2008. 
 
The trust deals in healthcare, water, rural upliftment, energy, education, relief, rehabilitation and individual grants, and boasts of the creation of institutes such as the Indian Institute of Science, Tata Memorial Hospital, Tata Institute of Social Sciences and the National Centre for the Performing Arts, all reputed names in their respective fields. 
 However, only recently it was in the news because of former Tata Sons chairman <keyword id="6356895" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cyrus-Mistry">Cyrus Mistry</keyword> <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/war-intensifies-cyrus-mistry-is-going-to-challenge-chandrasekarans-appointment-as-tata-sons-chairman/articleshow/56642005.cms">questioning its governance structure</a> and ambit of power. It was October 24, 2016 that Mystry was <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/cyrus-mistry-removed-as-tata-sons-director/articleshow/57003221.cms">ousted from his post</a>, which led to the feud.

Chandrasekaran also wrote a letter of encouragement to his employees, saying that higher shareholder value and business performance can be achieved if the conglomerate focuses relentlessly on customers and use innovation to reinvent its businesses.
