What works in its favour is the headroom for growth in the sector and the locations in which the company is active. The country's diagnostics industry is expected to grow at a compounded rate of 16% in three years starting April 2018 and be worth $12.3 billion by March 2020, according to investment advisors in HDFC Securities said in a report. There are very few Pan-India chains, which together have a share of approximately 35 to 40% of the organized diagnostic market.  Aside from the competition and other business risks-- renewal of licences and approvals, technological advancements, potential government pricing controls, reliance on third party services-- there are other risks pointed out by analysts. Potential legal threats There are several outstanding legal proceedings against Metropolis, subsidiaries, directors and promoters. In particular, the company has sought to compound certain offences under the Companies Act, 2013 before the NCLT and the Registrar of Companies. Further, it has been issued a summon cum show cause notice from the Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner, Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation, Ministry of Labour and Employment, and the government of India. It cannot be assured that these outstanding legal proceedings will be decided in Company’s favor or in favor of its Subsidiaries, Directors or Promoters, or that no further liability will arise out of these proceedings. Further, such legal proceedings could divert management’s time and attention and consume financial resources. A sour joint venture Metropolis Healthcare owns a 34% stake in Star Metropolis, a joint venture in the United Arab Emirates with ETA Star Healthcare. However, the two companies have had certain disagreements since 2011 and Star Metropolis stopped providing any information, including financial information. Further, one of the affiliates of the partner in UAE has been using the ‘Metropolis’ brand to market its pathology services in the Gulf Cooperation Council. The trademark is yet to be registered The company has applied for a trademark registration of its logo and name 'Metropolis' and is yet to be approved. There are other risks to intellectual property too. "Infringement claims could also arise in the future as patents could be issued on tests or processes that MHL may be performing, particularly in such emerging areas as gene-based testing and other specialty testing. Any of the foregoing could have an adverse effect on its business, results of operations and financial condition," the report said. The brand is key ingredient to the potential success of the company. Pledged stake Nearly 30% of the stake held by the promoters of the company are to pledged with lenders after the share sale. Promoters may pledge more shares in accordance with terms of the loan after the shares are listed. "Any default under the agreements pursuant to which these Equity Shares would be pledged will entitle the pledgee to enforce the pledge over these Equity Shares," according to the report. A promoter group company is also obliged to inform and take consent of some lenders before carrying out certain activities and entering into certain transactions.

New Delhi, June 24 () Diagnostic services provider Metropolis Healthcare on Wednesday said that a promoter has divested 6.03 per cent stake in the company for Rs 422.58 crore. The company in an exchange filing said "a member of the promoter group of the company has divested 30,54,545 equity shares of the company constituting 6.03 per cent of the issued and paid-up share capital of the company through a bulk deal transaction on the stock exchanges today". It further said that shares of the company have been sold at a price of Rs 1,383.44 per equity share. The proceeds from this divestment are intended to be used for substantial repayment of the loan availed by Metz Advisory LLP, the company said. "We believe that the reduction of pledge of equity shares by Metz Advisory LLP, Ameera Shah, Sushil Shah and Duru Sushil Shah by substantial repayment of the loan availed by Metz Advisory LLP, is in the overall interests of all the stakeholders," the filing said. "We have sold a small part of our holding today, in line with our commitment to bring down debt and associated pledges at the promoter and promoter group level," Metropolis Healthcare Promoter and MD Ameera Shah said. Metropolis Healthcare promoter offloads 6.03% stake for Rs 422.58 crore

<keyword id="6587" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="karachi" source="Orion">Karachi</keyword> has been named among the worlds worst cities to live in due to poor stability, healthcare, culture, environment and infrastructure. This was determined by the Economist Intelligence Unit in its annual Global Liveability Index 2022, Samaa TV reported. According to the Index, Karachi ranked 168 amongst 173 cities with an index score of 37.5. This placed the Pakistani metropolis squarely in the middle of the bottom 10 cities of the world on the index. It primarily suffered due to poor stability and healthcare. It had a stability score of 20, at par with that of Lagos and Damascus. Its healthcare score was 33.3, which was better than that of <keyword id="6381819" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="dhaka" source="Orion">Dhaka</keyword> (29.2) and even Douala, <keyword id="92498" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="cameroon" source="Orion">Cameroon</keyword>, both cities which sat several ranks above Karachi, Samaa TV reported. The port city also scored 35.2 for culture and environment above Tripoli but far less than the 40.5 of Dhaka or even 44.9 of Lagos. For education, Karachi had a score of 66.7, far above Dhaka (41.7) and even Tehran (50), both cities which were ranked far higher. In infrastructure, Karachi earned a score of 51.8, a score higher than any of the other cities listed in the bottom 10. Vienna returned to the top of the rankings for the first time since 2019 as the index saw sharp rises following the rollback of Covid-19 restrictions, Samaa TV reported. The top 10 positions were largely dominated by cities in Western European and North American economies. Canada had three cities listed in the top 10 with Calgary the highest-ranked followed by Vancouver and Toronto. Switzerland was the only other country to see multiple cities included in the top 10 ranking with Zurich and Geneva both included. How’s India similar to other SE Asian markets you’re in? 
All these markets have something in common – <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=health+insurance&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">health insurance</a> hasn’t penetrated here in a big way, so people are paying out of their pockets. 
 
That changes the dynamics of the market. Doctors are more careful before prescribing tests, and patients are more careful of the pricing. Here patients become the decision-maker. That’s why convenience is of supreme importance. 
 
We’re seeing double digit growth rate (10-13%) in emerging markets as compared to developed markets in Europe and America which see single digit growth. 
 
Is affordability still the key factor in emerging markets? 
Quality is the number one parameter, affordability comes next. The third one is convenience, and the fourth emerging factor is consumer experience. As education levels rise, people expect a level of hospitality. 
 
Market Size for Diagnostics in India. 
The market is currently $ 5-6 billion, and the top 3 players have managed to get only 10% of the total market. Over time we’ll see that changing. 
 
In the US, 40% of the market is held by the top 3 players, and that’s because of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=health+insurance&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">health insurance</a> penetration. 
 
How do you strike a balance between the latest tech and still make it affordable? 
In the western world people talk about how technology can help reduce cost. In India, manual labor is cheaper. 
 
When it comes to the latest tech, we don’t compromise. However, if something doesn’t affect the quality of the report we choose manual. 
 
Do you see <keyword id="3172082" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="healthcare-startups">healthcare startups</keyword> being sucked into the mainstream anytime soon? 
Startups are happening in two main areas – medical devices and mainly IT, with aggregators and the likes. 
 
In medical devices there still hasn’t been a startup that has revolutionized laboratory methods. In the IT space, it’s primarily in the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=preventive+healthcare&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">preventive space</a>. That’s not working in a large way because in healthcare people go with a brand they trust, and they don’t want a new brand that’s coming out of nowhere. There’s some traction because of deep discounting, but how they’ll sustain in the long term is anybody’s guess. 
 
So aggregators may not claim a big part of your business anytime soon? 
Not at all. 
 
The assumption is that once <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Practo&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Practo</a> and the likes make inroads into doctors’ clinics, they can tell the doctor where to send the patient for diagnostics. However, these are <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=IT+software&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">IT software</a> companies, but the Doctor will send a patient to a hospital based on his medical knowledge. 
 
What happens with services like these is that patients search for doctors like a directory of services. However, there’s no quality listing. 
 
Patients still go by word of mouth versus a recommendation by an IT app. 
 
Unless the quality listing comes into play, its difficult, and that raises a 2nd question – how will they determine what is a good doctor from a bad one. Doctors/Diagnostic chains can’t be rated by stars or quantifiable parameters. 
 
How they’ll make these lists is a little bit of a question mark. 
 
What kind of a startup can help you take a leap into the next stage of your expansion? 
At this point, I don’t see a model. Rather, we can help startups. 
 
They are absolutely new in healthcare, and they don’t have either the track record, or the brand value that doctors trust. There is an asymmetry in consumer education in India. 
 
More work on consumer education might be helpful for brands like us. 
 
Do you see the word-of-mouth recommendation model changing anytime soon for healthcare? 
There are no alternatives. 
 
You rather believe a distant niece, nephew or cousin who’s been to the clinic rather than a random website where you don’t know how they’ve done the listing. You’re going to believe a website basis what! 
 
People don’t want to take chances with their health. That’s the biggest barrier for any new player, and also what protects the industry. 
 
Any plans for an IPO? 
I don’t see anything in the next 6 months. 
 
Our industry is seeing great valuations in the public market, and as a company which has built a presence, it’s a very good opportunity for us if we do decide to go public.

Just when India was recovering from the bitter taste of <keyword id="2894644" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="MaggieinSoup">#Maggieinsoup</keyword>, Indians got another health risk warning. Days after lead was found in instant food Maggi, an analysis, done by <keyword id="178996" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Metropolis-Healthcare">Metropolis Healthcare</keyword>, of blood samples collected over a period of one year from across the country has revealed that over 23 per cent of the total samples tested positive with <keyword id="520366" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="lead-poisoning">lead poisoning</keyword>. 
 
 "A pan-India analysis of 733 blood samples collected over last one year has revealed that 23.47 per cent (172 samples) of the total samples tested positive with Lead poisoning," Dr Sandeep Warghade, Consulting Pathologist Metropolis Healthcare told PTI. He added that lead poisoning can be hard to detect and even people <keyword id="6366244" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="WHO">who</keyword> look healthy can have high levels of lead. 
 
 
"At high levels of exposure, lead damages the brain and central nervous system and can lead to coma, convulsions and even death. Signs and symptoms of lead poisoning usually don't appear until dangerous amounts have accumulated," Warghade added. 
 
 
According to a WHO study, lead exposure is estimated to account for 1,43,000 deaths per year with the highest burden in developing regions. 
Lead poisoning is a cumulative toxicant, particularly harmful to young children and can affect multiple body systems, he said. Major sources of blood lead include leaded contaminated soil, drinking water, petrol emissions, household dust, battery recycling, silver refining, paints (especially yellow), pigments, printing presses, ceramic pottery glazes, cosmetics, colours (including vermilion, spices, Holi colours), crayons and painted pencils, plant foods. In growing children, it causes low IQ, hyperactivity, attention deficit, learning disabilities and anaemia, he said. 
 
 
Warghade cautioned that lead poisoning cases in young children are high as they tend to lick or eat lead-containing paint when it peels off the walls or while playing with toys. 
 
 
Lead from a mother's blood can pass to the foetus during pregnancy, possibly giving rise to genetic disorders. 
 
 
"Exposure of pregnant women to high levels of lead can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth and low birth weight, as well as minor malformations. Women with high blood lead levels develop early osteoporosis, lower backache, joint pain and persistent anaemia," he said.

But that's a boon to it now, Realtor.com said, as the median home prices in those nearby cities continue to grow and price people out. The median home price in Kansas City, only an hour from Topeka, is $271,500. According to real-estate company Redfin, the median sales price for a home in Topeka was $90,800 in March 2019. "It's almost as though it finally caught up."Between March 2019 and November, the median number of days a house spent on the market decreased from 61 to 11. Pert said that while the market is hotter than it once was, it has chilled a bit from its peak frenzy."There were times this year where there was less than a week's worth of inventory," Pert told BI. "Six months to two and a half years ago, it was just rampant — there was no inventory. Things were getting five to 10 bids on a single property."Because Topeka is so up-and-coming, it's also a target for out-of-towners looking to invest in real estate. According to Pert, movers are coming from all over the country, and investors are also taking advantage."I've got clients from California to Pennsylvania and in between that love this market because it's such a high amount of rents and it's relatively cheap to buy compared to most of their own local markets," he said. Realtor.com also noted that, as the state capital, Topeka boasts government and healthcare jobs, too.It all adds up to a low unemployment rate, at 2.9%, according to Realtor.com. The national unemployment rate hovers around 3.7%.As the city flourishes, so too do its perks. "There is a decent art scene in Topeka and the variety of restaurants is growing," wrote a Reddit commenter. "Also, there are more coffee shops than I would expect from a small city." Hogelin said that while Topeka doesn't have "big wow factors," it's trying to level up. "They're trying to redo the downtown area, they revamped the capitol. They're trying to bring life back to areas that had gotten pretty depressed," she said. "It's an affordable place for living, and there are some really good school districts as well."

Analysts are betting big on the healthcare sector even post covid and expect the labware products company to continue growing. “COVID has turned out to be a boon for the companies in the healthcare space as worldwide governments have started allocating more funds and people in general have become more conscious towards the healthcare benefits. We expect the firm to grow faster than current CAGR [compound annual growth rate] given the laboratory instrument industry is growing at 20%,” said analysts at Nirmal Bang. Tarsons Products is engaged in designing, developing, manufacturing and supplying a diverse range of quality labware products used in laboratories across research organisations, academic institutes, pharmaceutical firms, diagnostics companies and hospitals.
