The model is based on hyper-local advertising and also takes into account user preferences - this combination is scalable to quite a large extent.<br />

“We are looking at markets with high level of online and omni-channel penetration, the online channel contributes a maximum of 15 percent to the retail market. As India’s retail market is geared to scale up from $650 million to $1 trillion by 2020, the opportunity is great for all types of players in the retail industry,” Zarine told Business Insider on expansion plan.

In a bid to strengthen its fashion portfolio, e-tailer giant <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> has entered into an agreement with the upcoming <keyword id="46098" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bangalore-Fashion-week">Bangalore Fashion Week</keyword> (<keyword id="539158" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="BFW">BFW</keyword>) that will be held from January 22, 2015 to January 25, 2015. The company has signed to be the exclusive online retailer for the BFW collections.<br />

“In our journey towards achieving $2 billion topline in fashion business by FY 2015-16, it’s our continuous endeavor to better position ourselves and stay ahead of the curve,” said Amit Maheshwari, vice president of the website’s fashion portfolio.<br />

Ties-up With FDCI To Offer Premium Fashion

<ul class="summary-list"><li>In 2019, the Nepali American designer launched a collection that he called "an ode to the American dream."</li><li>The collection included sashes that posed the question, "Who gets to be American?"</li></ul><p>In 2019, as a part of his Spring/Summer 2020 collection, designer Prabal Gurung had models walk down the runway wearing sashes that read "Who gets to be American?" He referred to the collection as "an ode to the true American dream."</p><p>In a <a href="https://prabalgurung.com/blogs/the-journal/my-american-dream-prabal-gurungs-personal-essay-for-vogue-arabia">personal essay</a>, the designer calls himself a "global citizen," having lived in Singapore, Nepal, India, Australia, London and the US. Gurung currently holds American citizenship. The SS20 show was particularly special as it marked the collection's 10th anniversary, and Gurung's 20 year anniversary of moving to the US.</p><p>In the show notes, Gurung writes, "Though my roots lay with my family in Nepal, this country is my home. America is where my heart is."</p><p>He also tells a story of sitting in a business meeting, and being met with an accusing, "Well, you don't look American, so how can you define what America is?"</p><p>He continues, "As <keyword id="11996591" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="immigrants" source="Orion">immigrants</keyword> continue to birth this 'new America,' we must remember all versions of our history and take ownership of our past while forging a new legacy. Visitors who entered the exhibition were immediately greeted by Gurung's infamous sash.</p><p>The second exhibition, launching in 2022, is "In America: An Anthology of Fashion." He continued by saying that young designers are "at the vanguard of discussions about diversity and inclusion, as well as sustainability and transparency."</p><p>In an <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CdBoQHgpBX3/">Instagram post</a> from May 1st, Gurung wrote, "I have always wanted my work to start some critical conversation in culture in any small way possible.I am not always successful. But it is genuinely humbling to realize my work had any part in inspiring/influencing or just simply starting the conversation for these last two [Costume Institute] exhibitions."</p><p>Gurung grew up in Kathmandu, Nepal, and studied fashion in New Delhi, India, where he worked under designers such as Manish Arora. In 1999, he moved to New York where he interned under Donna Karan. Ten years later, he released his own collection. Since then, the designer has dressed the likes of Michelle Obama and the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton. In 2021, he created gowns for Venus Williams, Teyana Taylor, Claire Danes, Gemma Chan, among others at the Met Gala. </p>

The company has since admitted to <a href="http://graphics.latimes.com/exide-battery-plant/">violating environmental laws</a>, leading to the closure of its plant in 2015.</span></p><p><span>Years later, the health hazard still lingers. </span><span>Researchers at USC and Mount Sinai <a href="https://pubs.acs.org/doi/ipdf/10.1021/acs.est.9b00429">recently discovered lead</a> in the baby teeth of children living two miles away from the recycling facility. The discovery could prefigure a new standard of testing that allows for early detection of lead exposure. </span></p><p><span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div></span></p><p><span>In their study, the researchers discovered lead levels that were consistent with concentrations found in the soil by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control. After testing more than 117,000 soil samples from nearly 8,000 properties, the department found average lead levels of 190 parts per million (ppm), or double the state's health threshold. </span></p><p><span>Though the EPA's limit is higher (400 ppm), three dozen properties near the plant have been found to contain <a href="https://www.latimes.com/local/california/la-me-ln-dangerous-lead-levels-20160714-snap-story.html">levels above 1,000 ppm</a>, which qualifies their soil as hazardous waste. One property even contained a lead level of around 8,400 ppm, or more than 100 times the state limit. </span></p><p><span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div></span></p><p><span>The new study from USC and Mount Sinai demonstrates the persistent danger of contamination more than four years after <a href="http://graphics.latimes.com/exide-battery-plant/">the plant officially closed</a>. By examining layers of baby teeth, the researchers were able to determine when children were exposed. </span></p><p><span>Their data showed that some children were contaminated before they were born, when their mothers were in their second or third trimester. Others were contaminated in their first year of life. </span></p><p><span>The <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/02/well/autism-pregnancy-fetal-development-teeth-chemicals.html">method of studying teeth</a> was previously used by one of the Mount Sinai researchers, Manish Arora,<a href="https://www.mountsinai.org/about/newsroom/2018/zinc-and-copper-metabolic-cycles-in-baby-teeth-linked-to-autism">to look at how</a> the body's processing of zinc and copper relates to autism.</span></p><p><span>In their latest study, Arora and his fellow </span><span>researchers said that examining teeth could <a href="https://pubs.acs.org/doi/ipdf/10.1021/acs.est.9b00429">open new doors</a> to determining lead exposure in children and unborn babies. Whereas the current method of lead testing - taking a blood sample - detects <a href="https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/encyclopedia/content.aspx?contenttypeid=167&amp;contentid=lead_blood">only recent exposure</a>, teeth allow researchers to look at exposure over time.</span></p><p><span>In <a href="https://news.usc.edu/156523/lead-in-baby-teeth-exide-battery-plant/">a statement</a>, the study's lead author, Jill Johnston, said that higher levels of lead in teeth were correlated with higher levels of lead in the brain, kidney, and bones. Once a person has been <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/nceh/lead/acclpp/blood_lead_levels.htm">exposed to lead</a>, the health effects are irreversible. </span></p><p><span>In Vernon, there's still a possibility that kids are coming into contact with lead in the air and soil. </span>Though California has agreed to clean up the area's most polluted homes (around 2,500 properties), others aren't scheduled for remediation. As of April 2018, many <a href="https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-exide-cleanup-20180426-story.html">homes that were due for cleanup</a> had yet to be visited by the state. </p>

The second highest ever quarterly buyback (around US$167bn) meaningfully contributed to EPS even though the overall number was poor."</p><p>The scoreboard for the second quarter looks above-average. Of the more than 3,000 companies that have reported earnings, 63% has beaten analysts' expectations by about 5% on average, according to Darby.</p><p>That's up from the first quarter. </p><p>In recent years, buybacks - or share repurchases - have grown in popularity as a way for companies to try and mask any underlying weakness in performance. When a company buys its stock, it reduces the number of shares outstanding. This lowers the denominator in the equation that divides net income with the tally of shares to derive EPS.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_left click-to-enlarge"><div><div class="image on-image"><a title_source="Jefferies" title_caption="" class="zoomin" href="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/57bc47e4ce38f235008b8443-960/screen shot 2016-08-23 at 8.39.43 am.png"><span class="sprites click-to-enlarge-icon" title="Click to enlarge"></span></a><p class="source"><span>Jefferies</span></p></div><p></p></div></div>And so, the cycle is something like: a company buys back shares, then crushes earnings expectations, then investors buy the stock and its price surges on. Rinse and repeat the following quarter. </p><p>This is not the only reason why companies buy their shares. Another main reason is that they believe the stock is undervalued, based on their expectations for future performance.</p><p>An analysis by HSBC showed that buybacks have been the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/buybacks-disappearing-could-mean-recession-2016-3">biggest source of demand</a> for stocks since 2009. </p><p>So how can earnings grow for real, again? </p><p>Darby wrote that as the inventory overhang is slowly been worn down at the expense of current production, and energy prices settle somewhere between $40 and $50 per barrel, there's some room for optimism.</p><p>Also, Pavilion Corp. noted that the US is pricing in greater long-term growth than its peers. </p><p>"The spread between implied US earnings growth and the rest of the world is especially high currently," the firm wrote in a strategy note on Tuesday. Companies keep using this trick to make their earnings look better

<br /> Adding to its fashion kitty, e-tailer <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> has acquired online luxury fashion retailer Exclusively.com. Through this acquisition, Snapdeal aims to reach $2 billion GMV in the fashion category this year.<br />
	 <br /> “Snapdeal has always operated ahead of the curve in the e-commerce space, especially when it comes to category leadership. We have witnessed a surge in the demand from consumers across the country for premium and luxury products, however, given that access to luxury brands is severely limited in our country, we have brought Exclusively into our family to provide our over 40 million users the access to widest range of aspirational, high end products and services,” said <keyword id="219793" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kunal-Bahl">Kunal Bahl</keyword>, co-founder and CEO, Snapdeal.com.<br />

	As per the agreement, Exclusively will be responsible for offering a consolidated line of luxury products in the fashion category, which would be in sync with Snapdeal’s existing ecosystem. The company plans to make it India’s first online luxury mall.<br />

	“Luxury and premium fashion brands from across the world can now open stores in Exclusively’s online luxury mall. Exclusively will continue to function as an independent site and all aspects of Exclusively’s online shopping experience will remain intact, with new collection and service augmentations in the pipeline,” added Bahl.<br />
	 <br />
	While Exclusively will provide luxury offerings, Snapdeal will be responsible for scaling up the target company’s business by providing a technology support and consumer insights.<br />

	It should be noted that the luxury products and services market in India is pegged at $14 billion and is growing at 30% year-on-year.<br />
