It took these tough measures as it looks to conserve cash and work towards building a leaner organisation across global businesses. According to its <a href="https://www.mahindraautomotivena.com/about">official website, MANA</a> employed around 500 people till early 2020, is reported to have slashed over half of the workforce. <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-mahindra-usa-layoffs-exclusive/exclusive-indian-automaker-mahindra-cuts-over-half-of-north-america-workforce-sources-say-idUKKBN29I26F">Reports</a> indicate the positions were cut across various verticals, including engineering staff at its Detroit-based plant. In a written statement to Business Insider, Mahindra’s spokesperson said that even as it realigns its workforce and cuts down on non-core operations, work will continue at its Detroit centre on the ‘Born Electric’ platforms. Mahindra is also preparing to launch the New Roxor 2021, for which they continue to ‘retain as well as bring in new and relevant skilled talent.’ Mahindra opened the <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/business/Industry/mahindra-opens-detroits-first-car-making-plant-in-25-years/article20608973.ece">Detroit plant</a> in 2017 with an investment of $230 million, marking its first automotive plant in nearly the city in three decades. The North-America plant plays an important role in building out off-road vehicle Roxor and GenZe Electric scooters for Mahindra. Although the company did not announce the number of employees that were laid off, it said that given the challenging business environment, the North American unit has combined some of the job roles, and reduced the resultant redundant jobs. The Mahindra Group remains firm on implementing capital allocation norms, with a sharp focus on financial returns, driving growth, and continued improvement in international subsidiaries, the statement added. The company had <a href="https://auto.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/passenger-vehicle/uv/revamped-detroit-plant-to-start-making-new-jeep-by-march-31/80165634">recently invested $1.6 billion </a>to revamp two old engine plants to build the new versions of the popular Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV — the production is likely to start by the end of March. It will also build two-row and what likely will be plug-in hybrid electric versions of the Grand Cherokee later this year at the Detroit Assembly complex. M&amp;M is planning to focus on manufacturing large sport-utility vehicles and electric models for its core India market, where the company has struggled competing with its peers such as Tata Motors and Kia. Mahindra says Roxor 2021 will still be made in Detroit after laying off nearly 250 redundant roles

M&amp;M has raked in $1.5 billion in the US and is expecting to generate $2.5 billion revenue and double the figures in next two-three years. The automaker also plans to hire 3,000 people for its US greenfield auto manufacturing plant. "We are looking at opening (the plant) this year. That's a major milestone where an Indian automotive company is opening up manufacturing in a resurgent Detroit. I think that's a wonderful twist of history,” Group Chairman <keyword id="46425" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anand-Mahindra">Anand Mahindra</keyword> told ET in an interview in New York. M&amp;M may also take a final call on approving the global launch of luxury electric sports cars along the lines of <keyword id="107096" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tesla">Tesla</keyword> Inc. under the Turin-based Pininfarina brand, which is the Italian design and engineering house majority-owned by <keyword id="43217" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tech-Mahindra">Tech Mahindra</keyword>. "I believe America will be one of the most rewarding places to invest. New Delhi, Nov 29 () Mahindra &amp; Mahindra on Friday said a judge of the US International Trade Commission (ITC) has found that its off-road vehicle Roxor violated Fiat Chrysler Automobile's (FCA) Jeep 'trade dress' and recommended an exclusion order prohibiting import and sale of any already imported parts of the vehicle.
 The homegrown auto major further said that FCA has filed a counterclaim in the proceeding filed by it before the Eastern District Court of Michigan, seeking a permanent injunction on manufacture or sales of the Roxor, as well as disgorgement of any profits made by the Mahindra &amp; Mahindra (M&amp;M) from sales of the vehicle.
 "If FCA succeeds in getting a permanent injunction, then Mahindra Automotive North America, a subsidiary of the company, will no longer be able to sell Roxors in the US," M&amp;M said in a regulatory filing.
 On the US ITC order, the company said "the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) has, in his initial determination, found that while the design of the Roxor vehicle does not violate any of FCA's registered trademarks, it violated FCA's trade dress and recommended an exclusion order prohibiting the importation of Roxor parts and a cease-and-desist order prohibiting sale of any already imported Roxor parts."
 Trade dress is a form of intellectual property that identifies the look of a product and distinguishes it from its competitors.
 The firm, however, said the initial determination made by the Administrative Law Judge of the ITC is a non-binding recommendation to the ITC and the company has asked the same to be reviewed.
 When contacted, a company spokesperson said, "...until this case, FCA had never defined what it believes to be the 'Jeep Trade Dress' or identified it as a business asset in any filings (bankruptcy or otherwise)."
 The spokesperson further said, "Ultimately, the ALJ's opinion is only a recommendation, and we have asked the entire ITC to review it".
 The ITC has the discretion to either adopt the ALJ's opinion in whole or in part, rewrite parts of it, or completely reject it. Therefore, it is very important to wait for the ITC review to be finalised, the spokesperson added.
 Roxor was launched on March 2, 2018, to be sold in the US and Canada. Soon after, FCA lodged a complaint with the US ITC alleging that it is a copy of Willys Jeep and the design elements of Mahindra's product infringes some key design elements of Jeep.
 Roxor is manufactured in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Mahindra has invested hundreds of millions of dollars into building its US operations and currently operates multiple facilities in the Detroit area.
 It employs more than 400 US employees and hundreds more through its network of over 400 dealers and US suppliers, the spokesperson said. RKL RKL ANS
