<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/7-incredible-things-that-we-can-imbibe-from-birthday-boy-Narendra-Modi/articleshow/48987595.cms">Prime Minister Narendra Modi turns 65</a> today on this auspicious day of Ganesh Chaturthi. While the nation is celebrating his birthday on Twitter since midnight, Internet giant Google celebrated the 100th birthday of the Picasso of India, the ‘infamous’ artist <keyword id="117512" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="M-F-Husain">M.F. Husain</keyword>. Just when you open the search engine expecting to see the Doodle on Modi! 

	India is thankful to Google though <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Educate-In-India-Narendra-Modis-new-pet-project/articleshow/47456640.cms">Narendra Modi</a> might not be. Looking beyond the ego-battle, <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> should be thankful that this Art Master was born and turned 100 today. Here’s why a man claiming to be the true Indian has much to thank the self-exiled true Indian for. 
	 
	 

	1. Using some of the painter’s favourite colours, notably pastels of red, yellow ochre, blue, mud brown, <keyword id="419433" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="google-doodle">Google Doodle</keyword> was an abstract geometric illustration with MF Husain’s self portrait holding a brush in the middle. MF Hussain was among those rare artists whose prized collections of life works also include an accurate self-portrait. 

	In Modi’s selfies and publicity, the nation is fed with a hazy picture of the man himself. Thanks to this great prodigy, Modi has the most accurate example of self portrait of a true Indian in the whole world, to refer to.
 

	If only Narendra Modi could paint his true self portrait, it would have been marred with red pastels of Gujarat riots and orange shades of the true Hindu that he is.

	 
	 
	 

	2. Husain was self-exiled at the age of 90 after facing more than a decade of lawsuits and abuses for his paintings. It all started with his abstract depictions of Hindu Goddesses and nudity. Though critics state the main reason of his troubled years as a painter was he depicting Hindu mythology in its bare state being a Muslim. This even led to his being treated as a religious bigot.
 

	In his process of ‘saffronisation’ of the nation, Modi can easily put the Gujarat riots case to the background. After all he is true to his religion, unlike Husain, the Indian.

	 
	 
	 

	3. In his ambitious vision <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Modi-to-call-on-Samsung-LG-to-Make-in-India/articleshow/47262269.cms">‘Make in India’</a>, Modi seems to be confused whether to manufacture in India or to make in India. Yes, there is a difference between the two which is debated on. But much to the credits of MF Husain, Modi has the best solution to look at. The artist created a unique language of expression through his paintings which were a combination of Indian visual idioms and contemporary western forms. His paintings were so successful at the international markets that it led to a seal of approval over making art a stock option. 
 

	Modi needs to acknowledge that we need to embrace western talent while working on Indian potential. Calling to foreign investors and manufacturers to manufacture in India or buying Rafale jets from France should be coupled with steps to make the most of the hidden potential in the hearts of Indian land.

	 
	 
	 

	4. <keyword id="127432" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Maqbool-Fida-Husain">Maqbool Fida Husain</keyword> was named the ‘Picasso of India’ not for nothing. His unique abstract paintings based on Indian mythology and Goddesses celebrating womanhood made his style stand out among the masses. His paintings were not a disgrace to Indian culture nor did it represent fanaticism, he showed it as it was. It exposed the dilemmas of the nation through pictorial eclecticism. One might remember his famous impression of <keyword id="6354478" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indira-Gandhi">Indira Gandhi</keyword> as Goddess Durga riding a lion during emergency. 

	If only Modi had this courage, instead of calling to people to post pictures of incredible India he would have asked them to post images of the things that is tearing apart its incredibility.
 

	But since Husain was exiled for this very reason, Modi is grateful to have a reason to do elsewise.

	 
	 
	 

	5. Husain’s paintings were banned like the books of <keyword id="25391" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Salman-Rushdie">Salman Rushdie</keyword>. So also movies, wearing skirts to school and now meat! Narendra Modi’excuse-it all went against the integrity of the nation and its culture. Hence, after years of being represented to its true form, the nation is happy to pull itself out of the artist’s canvas safely.

When we woke up this morning and reached for our phones to make our presence felt on the internet, little did we expect <keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword>’s homepage to pay tribute to a man whose birthday we’d forgotten over the birthday of our beloved Prime <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=narendra+modi">Minister Narendra Modi</a> and the homecoming of Ganesha, popularly known as <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/GodSaveTheOcean-This-Ganesh-Chaturthi-Mumbai-NGO-makes-idols-that-fish-can-eat/articleshow/48786857.cms">Ganesh Chaturthi</a>. 
 Maqbool Fida Husain, the renowned Indian <keyword id="6448302" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Painter">painter</keyword> would have turned 100 today. 
 
In keeping with his cubist style, Google used Husain’s favourite colours to come up with an abstract geometrical illustration comprising circles and a painted portrait of the late artist holding a brush, at the centre. 
 
The Padma Shri award winner had relocated to London and Dubai after numerous death threats and lawsuits from right-wing Hindu fundamentalists over his depiction of Hindu gods. 
 
At the age of 95, the maestro breathed his last in London on June 29, 2011 where he used to spend his summers while on his self-imposed exile. 
 
The multi-faceted painter was also an accomplished illustrator, photographer and filmmaker. 
 
However, despite his greatness, people of his own country forced him to go on a self-imposed exile and give up Indian citizenship. 
 If that was not enough, a section of people who took to social media to express their astonishment at Google choosing the late artist for its tribute and not <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>., while the rest joined in on the rituals of wishing the famed painter a Happy Birthday. 
 
Soon enough, M. F Husain started trending on Twitter, as well- which brings me to my original point. 
 
Would M.F Husain be the subject of all this fanfare had he not featured on the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/The-5-best-Google-Doodles-of-all-time/articleshow/47338021.cms">Google Doodle</a> today? Would we have gone about our usual day celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi and wishing the leader of the largest democracy in the world, but forgetting to spare more than a minute for one of the greatest painters India has seen? 
 
Before nodding your head to say ‘No, we would not,’ do bear in mind we are the same country who took offense to his painting depicting Hindu gods, labeled him anti-Hindu, mainly due to his religion, harassed him non-stop and protested against his existence in the country he was born in, while burning his posters. 
 
We failed in giving him the treatment he deserved when he was alive and we would have failed in revering him today too, had it not been for Google reminding us about Husain's unapologetic devotion to beauty, people, and the world. 
 
If that’s not enough, there are also some people who want Google to apologise for featuring Husain on their doodle.

<ul><li>The 4,000 paintings in the <keyword id="2573" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Air-India">Air India</keyword> office, <keyword id="6358070" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="mumbai">Mumbai</keyword> are to be given away to the National Gallery of Modern Art, Delhi next week. </li><li>The artists of these paintings include the celebrated MF Husain, VS Gaitonde, Jatin Das and Anjolie Ela Menon. </li><li>This decision was taken after the prime minister approved the proposal of selling the AI Mumbai office in the process of disinvestment of the airlines. </li></ul> The Maharaja Collection of about <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/business/aviation/air-india-artworks-paintings-at-mumbai-office-to-ngma-5244893/">4,000 paintings</a> in the Air <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> office in Mumbai is expected to be given away to the National Gallery of Modern Art (<keyword id="6430853" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="ngma">NGMA</keyword>) in Delhi. The paintings should reach Delhi by the AI planes next week. This decision was taken after the prime minister approved the proposal of selling the AI building at Nariman Point, South Mumbai to the Shipping Ministry. This is being done after the government took a decision of <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/ai-disinvestment-process-moving-expeditiously-says-govt/articleshow/62433840.cms">disinvesting </a>in the airlines that has been facing huge debts and losses for a while now. The Maharaja Collection includes paintings by several celebrated artists including MF Husain, VS Gaitonde, Jatin Das and Anjolie Ela Menon. Instances of <a href="https://www.thenational.ae/world/asia/air-india-s-massive-art-collection-comes-under-scrutiny-1.677348">negligence and mismanagement</a> of the expensive art pieces by AI were commonly heard and the paintings had been gathering dust at the office. The Centre had ordered NGMA to collect the artwork as a donation from AI since it is the only institution in India to have the authority to collect and display modern art. NGMA also plans to exhibit some of the pieces at its Jaipur House building. The government of Mumbai had begun taking inventory of the collection in 2014 and had found that some valuable pieces were not properly preserved. Last year, the Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Jayant Sinha, had announced that he hoped to ensure a safe custody for the artwork soon. For the same purpose, setting up of a museum at Nariman Point building was proposed with a budget of ₹ 50 million. However, the tender was never awarded since it was not certain whether the <keyword id="34984" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="airline">airline</keyword> would continue to operate or not. There are no official estimates of the worth of the entire collection of the art at the AI Mumbai office. It has about 7,000 items including the 4,000 paintings, stone sculptures, wooden frames, decorative items and clocks. Some of the items even date back to the 9th century. The collection was built over more than 60 years after Independence and was driven by JRD Tata who wanted to put “a little bit of India” in the offices of the erstwhile Tata Airlines.
