The Centre on Thursday told the <keyword id="19895345" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supreme-Court" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Supreme Court" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Supreme Court">Supreme Court</keyword> that the decision to give <keyword id="21375140" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="grace-marks" source="keywords">grace marks</keyword> to 1,563 <keyword id="20055256" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NEET-UG" source="keywords">NEET-UG</keyword>, 2024 candidates for admission to <keyword id="19968296" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MBBS" source="keywords">MBBS</keyword>, <keyword id="20007002" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BDS" source="keywords">BDS</keyword> and others courses has been cancelled and they will be given an option to take a re-test on June 23. A vacation bench of justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta was told by the counsel for the Centre and the <keyword id="19904021" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Testing-Agency" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="National Testing Agency" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="National Testing Agency">National Testing Agency</keyword> (NTA) that the students, who were given grace marks, will be given an option to take the re-test. The court said it will not stay the counselling process for admissions. If the candidates, out of the 1,563, do not wish to take up the retest then their earlier marks, sans the grace marks, will be given for the purposes of the results. The results of the re-test will be declared on June 30 and the counselling for admission in the MBBS, BDS, other courses will start on July 6, the Centre said. Taking note of the submissions, the bench said all the pleas, including the one filed by Alakh Pandey, the chief executive of EdTech firm Physics Wallah over the issue of award of grace marks, will be taken up for hearing on July 8. They also include the petitions seeking cancellation of NEET-UG, 2024 on account of allegation of question paper leaks and other malpractices. The examination was held by the NTA on May 5 across 4,750 centres and around 24 lakh candidates took it. The results were expected to be declared on June 14 but were announced on June 4, apparently because the evaluation of the answer sheets got completed earlier. The allegations such as question paper leak and the grant of grace marks to over 1,500 medical aspirants have led to protests and filing of cases in seven high courts as also the Supreme Court. As many as 67 students scored a perfect 720, unprecedented in the NTA's history, with six from a centre in Haryana's Faridabad figuring in the list, raising suspicions about irregularities. Scores of students protested in Delhi on June 10 seeking a probe into alleged irregularities. It has been alleged that grace marks contributed to 67 students sharing the top rank. The NEET-UG examination is conducted by the NTA for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country. As soon as he was admitted to the hospital, a nine-hour long procedure involving multiple surgeries and bone grafting was performed in which not only the arm, but muscles and nerves were also reattached." "The anaesthesia team reconstructed all the neurovascular structures and soft tissues. At the same time, for vascularisation, a flap of muscle from the chest was transplanted and the muscles of the hand were repaired. Simultaneously, to fix the broken humerus mid shaft, the orthopaedic team decided to do internal bone fixation," he explained. <ul><li>Indians planning to study medicine in China may have to learn Mandarin language to enroll in MBBS programmes in the country. </li><li>The Ministry of Education (MoE) rolled out an official list of 45 universities in China which are qualified for an MBBS degree programme in English. </li><li>China opened its doors to foreign students in 2003, and has as many as 500,000 students. </li><li>In China, medical education costs nearly ₹300,000 to ₹500,000 for government-authorized universities.</li></ul>More Indians are opting to study in China, given the affordability of education as compared to the US and Australia. But those looking to gain medical degrees from the country, will now face a roadblock--of language. The government of China is allowing only 45 of its universities to teach MBBS in English. There are over 200 universities in the country offering medical courses. “It has been clearly mentioned by the Chinese MOE that teaching MBBS course under a bilingual (English/Chinese) model is strictly forbidden. China opened its doors to foreign students in 2003, and now there are as many as 500,000 of them. To avoid confusion among aspiring doctors, Indian Embassy removed the Chinese universities that do not offer courses in English from its website. However, the students who are presently enrolled in any university other than those listed by the government are learning Chinese language to get through the course. Indian medical students will now have to learn Mandarin to study in China

<ul><li>The Health Ministry has proposed to drop NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Examination) for admission to MD and MS courses. </li><li>The admission will be based on the scores in the MBBS final examination and National Exit Test (NEXT). </li><li>The candidates wanting to enroll in PG courses in AIIMS will still have to go through the mandatory entrance exam. </li><li>NEET Super Speciality exam will also be mandatory to study Master of Surgery (Mch). </li></ul>MBBS pass outs might not have to go through an entrance exam to pursue post-graduate courses, if a proposal by Health Ministry goes through. It wants to drop NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Examination) for admission into MD (Doctor of Medicine) and MS (Master of Science) courses. If the draft National Medical Commission (NMC) bill goes through, students can be admitted based on score in the MBBS final examination and National Exit Test (NEXT), PTI<a href="https://www.thehindu.com/education/health-ministry-bill-proposes-to-axe-neet-pg/article28430886.ece"> reported</a>. They will also not be required to go through a separate examination to secure a licence to practice medicine, according to the proposed draft. The candidates wanting to enroll in PG courses in AIIMS will still have to go through the mandatory entrance exam. In addition to this, the NEET Super Speciality exam will also be mandatory to study Master of Surgery (Mch). The draft NMC Bill was tabled in the Parliament in 2017. It focussed at introducing a ‘bridge course’ that will enable medical practitioners of alternative medicine to pursue allopathy. However, it faced criticism from medical professionals and health associations in India. The bill was later revised with several amendments including aggressive punishments for unauthorised practice of medicine — a year long imprisonment or a fine of up to ₹500,000. However, to address the shortage of medical professionals, the government has <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/education/4800-mbbs-seats-reserved-for-economically-weaker-students-5826733/">allocated 26% more seats</a> for MBBS aspirants in the last two years — reserving nearly 5,000 seats for economically weaker sections. NEET state counselling 2020 schedule released — Here are the state-wise details for MBBS, BDS counselling

The menace of ragging continues to haunt students in some institutions in <keyword id="13104" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="telugu" source="Orion">Telugu</keyword> states as in the latest case in Andhra Pradesh, 18 students of <keyword id="6034800" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jntu-anantapur" source="Orion">JNTU Anantapur</keyword> have been suspended for <keyword id="1325638" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ragging-juniors" source="Orion">ragging juniors</keyword>. The College Academic Council of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (<keyword id="99885" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jntu" source="Orion">JNTU</keyword>) suspended students of Anantapur Engineering College for forcibly taking some freshers to their hostel. The juniors were allegedly forced to stand half-naked and follow orders of the seniors. The incident took place on Friday night but came to light a day later. The college authorities learnt about ragging when a parent of one of the first-year students complained. The college authorities came to know that some first-year students were taken to <keyword id="13120357" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gurukula-hostel" source="Orion">Gurukula Hostel</keyword>, the hostel of seniors. When questioned by the college principal, the freshers revealed how they were ragged by the seniors. Taking a serious note of the incident, the College Academic Council suspended 18 students of the second year found involved in the ragging from academics and hostel. The Council began a detailed inquiry on Monday to ascertain facts from the victims and other students for further action. Police also took suo-moto note of the ragging incident and began a probe. According to Anantapur Superintendent of Police Fakkerappa Kaginelli, the police have not received any complaint but they took suo-moto cognizance and deputed a DSP-rank officer to probe the incident. This is the second incident of ragging in the government-run institutions in the Telugu states in the last one month. Six students of a government medical college in Telangana's Suryapet were suspended for one year for ragging a junior student last month. Second year MBBS students of the Government Medical College Suryapet were punished after they were found involved. They were also arrested by the police under the Anti-Ragging Act. The police rescued the junior student Sai Kumar after receiving a call that some senior students were ragging him in the Boys hostel of the college. The complainant alleged that a group of students came to his room, ordered him to take off his clothes and took video shots of him in their mobile phones. They also tried to cut his hair. The victim said he was physically and mentally tortured for two hours. He later managed to escape from them and called up his father after hiding in another room. On May 12, Vineeth Vijayan happened to take an auto from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=bengaluru&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Bengaluru</a> town to the <keyword id="27558" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Medical-college">medical college</keyword> where his friend’s mother was admitted when he chanced upon this nameless hero disguised as an <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=autorickshaw&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">auto-rickshaw</a> driver. 
 
Vijayan, who was suffering from back pain asked the young driver to ride the rickshaw smoothly to which he replied ‘Okay Sir’ in a gentle voice. 
 
He was surprised, mainly because he was expecting an usual rude reply, like he has in the past. 
 
But that wasn’t all. He was in for more surprise at the end of his trip when he asked the driver how much the fare was. Instead of replying with the amount, the young driver just points to a box kept near his seat and replied, ‘Put anything that you think is satisfactory for this ride.’ 
 
The label on the box read, ‘Donation for the poor and needy patients’ 
 
It was only after he left did Vijayan get to know his incredible story, from the security personnel at the hospital. 
 As it turns out, the <keyword id="73220" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Autorickshaw-driver">autorickshaw driver</keyword> is a 3rd year M.B.B.S student whose father passed away sometime back and whose elder brother is paralysed. He also has two younger sisters. 
 
The superintendent of the hospital had given him the auto as a gift for passing his exams with good marks. Since then, he has been offering rides to the medical college for free or asks people to put some money in the box. 
 
At the end of every month, he uses that money for the treatment of the needy people in the hospital. 
 
This only goes on to be prove that all you need is a big heart to be a hero. This young man is a reminder of the fact that not all superheroes wear capes.

With the National Medical Commission (NMC) in place, students will be admitted based on score in the common final year <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/national-medical-commission-bill-gets-cabinet-nod-to-be-introduced-in-current-session-of-parliament/articleshow/70264838.cms">MBBS exam</a>, which will now be known as National Exit Test (NEXT). This means that the medical aspirants will no longer have to go through a separate examination to secure a licence to practice medicine, or to enroll in postgraduate programmes. In fact, NEXT will also be considered as a screening exam for foreign medical aspirants. In a bid to have uniformity across institutions, the bill also seeks to rope in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Institute of National Importance (INIs) into the given criteria. “At present, we have NEET and entrance exams for AIIMS. Now, we will also have an exit exam that will be for everyone for getting a licence to practice medicine in the country," Mint <a href="https://www.livemint.com/politics/policy/cabinet-approves-bill-to-replace-mci-with-national-medical-commission-1563360408508.html">reported</a> citing Union minister <keyword id="119642" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prakash-Javadekar">Prakash Javadekar</keyword>. The NMC, which will substitute the Medical Council of India(MCI), will be set up to take over the responsibilities of conducting common entrances for MBBS, streamlining the course and fees. Under this, the government will introduce fee relaxation for students enrolling in private institutions. “The Medical Assessment and Rating Board will grant permission for new medical colleges, starting PG courses and increasing seats based on the standards set by the UG and PG boards,” the Cabinet noted. The NMC will constitute three autonomous bodies — Under-Graduate Medical Education Board, Post-Graduate Medical Education Board, and Ethics and Medical Registration Board — which will focus on ensuring global standards of education. Every year, 80,000 students take admission in MBBS courses across the country. While 150,000 take the entrance examination to enroll in 50,000 seats for PG courses.
