The race in Big Tech to sell customers on AI products is heating up

<keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword> and Maldives have signed an agreement to introduce the <keyword id="19998949" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Unified-Payments-Interface" source="keywords">Unified Payments Interface</keyword> in the archipelago nation, which will have a "very positive" impact on its <keyword id="20260982" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tourism-sector" source="keywords">tourism sector</keyword>, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Friday during Jaishankar's three-day official visit to the Maldives. "Witnessed signing of MoU between (the) National Payments Corporation of India and (the) Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Maldives on (the) introduction of (a) digital payment system in the Maldives," he said in a post on X. Developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (<keyword id="19998946" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NPCI" source="keywords">NPCI</keyword>), Unified Payment Interface (UPI) is an instant real-time payment system to facilitate inter-bank transactions through mobile phones. Addressing a press conference with his Maldivian counterpart Moosa Zameer after their "productive discussions", Jaishankar said that India, through its UPI, has "revolutionised digital transactions". Stressing that it has taken financial inclusion in India to new levels, he said "Today 40 per cent of the world's real-time digital payments take place in our country." "We see this revolution, every day in our lives. I am pleased to note that with the signing of the MoU today, we have taken the first step towards bringing this digital innovation to Maldives," he said. "I wish the very best to stakeholders on both sides and hope that we will soon see the first UPI transaction here. I should mention that it will have a very positive impact on tourism," he added. Tourism is the main source of economic activity for the Maldives, contributing nearly 30 per cent of the GDP and generating more than 60 per cent of foreign exchange. Jaishankar's visit aims to reset the bilateral relationship with the Maldives and is the first high-level trip from India after the archipelago nation's pro-China president, Mohamed Muizzu, assumed office last year. "India's partnership with the Maldives is based on our deep desire to work together for each other's welfare and interests. It is a partnership that has enabled us to always swiftly and effectively respond to challenges, as witnessed in the past," Jaishankar said. "It is a partnership that has enabled us to deliver results and bring tangible benefits to our people in accordance with their wishes, aspirations and priorities," he said. In a post on X, Jaishankar also said, "Jointly inaugurated six High Impact Projects in areas of street lighting, mental health, children speech therapy and special education." "Welcome renewal of MoU between National Centre for Good Governance and Civil Services Commission on (the) training of additional 1,000 civil services officers," he added. Addressing the joint press conference, Maldivian Foreign Minister Zameer said, "India has always been one of our closest friends and a vital development partner." He said the "enduring friendship" was built on a foundation of mutual trust and respect and has continued to flourish over the years. "High-level exchanges between our countries have deepened our dialogue and cooperation in areas of shared interest. We remain dedicated to strengthening and advancing this mutually beneficial partnership," he said. "Minister Dr Jaishankar and I agreed that much more needs to be done to promote trade and investment between the Maldives and India," he said, adding that both sides are committed to establishing "effective mechanisms to enhance economic cooperation, fostering a vibrant and prosperous partnership that will benefit both the nations." Zameer said he conveyed President Muizzu's proposal to begin negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement between the Maldives and India. "This agreement alongside other economic and trade-related agreements will facilitate trade liberalisation and ease the risks of doing business in both our countries," he said. Zameer said that India and Maldives have also mutually agreed to further strengthen their partnership by continuing joint exercises and expanding training opportunities for officers from both countries, asserting that this reflects "our commitment to working together to ensure the security of our nations as well as ensuring the safety and stability of the Indian Ocean region." India's relations with the Maldives suffered a major setback last year when President Muizzu demanded the withdrawal of Indian military personnel manning three aviation platforms in the Maldives. Subsequently, the Indian military personnel were replaced by civilians by May 10, the mutually agreed date. "On regional and multilateral issues of importance, our countries have a common understanding and are united in our efforts to resolve them. We agreed to continue our cooperation on issues ranging from combating terrorism, violent extremism, drugs, human trafficking and to the promotion and protection of human rights," Zameer said. In his press statement, Jaishankar said that India and the Maldives "are not just close neighbours, we are also natural partners." "Today, we are mutually invested in each other's development and progress. In a globalised and interconnected world, we see a lot of volatility and global tensions. Even as the world is recovering from the impact of the COVID pandemic, we have been confronted with new challenges arising from international conflicts," he said. In this tumultuous environment, India has been and will be, an anchor of stability for its friends, partners and neighbours. To the Maldives specifically, India has provided support to deal with economic challenges through financial assistance and budgetary support, and by ensuring an uninterrupted supply of critical items, he noted. India to introduce UPI payment service in Maldives

As <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword>'s <keyword id="19916774" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="exports" source="keywords">exports</keyword> in the first quarter of 2024-25 (April-June) crossed the $200 billion mark, the government has expressed its optimism about reaching its full-year target of $800 billion. "We are quite optimistic and it gives us optimism that we'd be crossing our <keyword id="19944038" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="USD" source="keywords">USD</keyword> 800 billion of trade this year," Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal said on Monday while releasing India's trade data for June. India's overall exports, merchandise and services combined in the month of June were to the tune of $65.47 billion, a 5.4% rise on a yearly basis, commerce ministry data showed. Same month last year it was at $62.12 billion. In break up, <keyword id="22419320" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="exports-of-merchandise-goods" source="Orion">exports of merchandise goods</keyword> rose from $34.32 billion to $35.20 billion, and exports of services rose from $27.79 to $30.27 billion. In May, merchandise and services exports combined were to the tune of $68.29 billion, a 10.2% rise on a yearly basis. The country's <keyword id="19933566" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="imports" source="keywords">imports</keyword> too increased year-on-year in June, data showed today. The same was the case in May. The overall imports, both merchandise and services combined, increased from $69.12 billion to $73.47 billion, a rise of about 6.3%, in June. In the recently concluded financial year 2023-24, India registered record exports at $778 billion. In 2022-23, the country exported goods and services combined at $776.3 billion. In break up, services exports rose from $325.3 billion to $341.1 billion in 2023-24. Merchandise exports though marginally declined from $451.1 billion to $437.1 billion. TIME called Reliance 'India's Juggernaut'. This is the second time that Reliance has found its way into the TIME list. Jio Platforms, the firm that holds digital properties of the conglomerate, was included in the inaugural TIME 100 Most Influential Companies List of 2021. Serum Institute is the other Indian company on the list. TIME listed Reliance in the 'Titans' category (one of the five categories under which the companies were divided, other being Leaders, Disrupters, Innovators, and Pioneers). Tata was listed in 'Titan's' category while Serum under 'Pioneers'. "Reliance Industries was founded as a textile and polyester company 58 years ago by Dhirubhai Ambani. Today the sprawling conglomerate -- which has aligned its growth with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a 'self-reliant' India -- is the country's most valuable company, with a market capitalisation of more than USD 200 billion," TIME said. Now led by Dhirubhai's son Mukesh, the Mumbai-based company has ventures in energy, retail, and telecommunications, among others, and has made its chairman Asia's richest man, it said. The publication went on to stated that in February, Reliance came out on top in a fiercely competitive race to dominate India's burgeoning streaming market by striking a USD 8.5 billion merger deal with Disney's India business. "The deal will bring together more than 100 television channels and give the combined group around a 31 per cent share of India's streaming market compared to rivals Netflix and Amazon Prime with 8 per cent each," according to analytics firm Comscore. Reliance has revolutionised several economic sectors in the world's most populous country by making world-class products and services available at affordable prices with multiple innovations. Under Mukesh Ambani, the firm's telecom arm Jio revolutionised India's digital landscape and drove digital inclusion on an unprecedented scale with the most affordable mobile data tariffs in the world. It set up the world's largest single location refining complex. Reliance Retail is ranked among the top 100 retailers globally and in FY24 it registered 1.06 billion footfalls across its 18,800+ stores (67 per cent of which are in small towns and villages). Reliance is investing USD 10 billion in building the most comprehensive ecosystem for new energy and new materials in India and has set an ambitious goal to reach net-zero carbon by 2035. TIME described Serum as the world's biggest vaccine maker, churning out billions of vaccines. The company makes 3.5 billion doses every year, including for measles, polio, and most recently, HPV. "Serum's CEO Adar Poonawalla says the company's success can largely be chalked up to its private ownership. Not being beholden to shareholders allows it to keep vaccine prices low (the R21 will cost USD 4 a shot)," the publication said. Tata Group, it said, was founded in 1868 and has a vast portfolio extending from steel, software, watches, subsea cables, and chemicals, to salt, grains, air-conditioners, fashion, and hotels. "But as rivals have aggressively courted new businesses, it struggled to keep up with stiff competition. In 2017, after over a century of family management, N Chandrasekaran took over as chairman despite having no personal ties to the family -- highly unusual when India's business landscape is ruled by family succession plans," TIME said. As chair, he has transformed the group by investing in tech manufacturing, AI, and semiconductor chips. In 2023, it became the first Indian company to assemble iPhones, and is building another plant, it said, adding that in September, Tata announced a partnership with Nvidia to develop an AI cloud in India. "And this year, it announced plans for the country's first major semiconductor manufacturing facility. I have skipped major spoilers here, which I believe you should enjoy firsthand in cinemas near you. Since Avengers: Endgame, we have seen a constant decline in quality and fan following for the <keyword id="19985514" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Marvel-Cinematic-Universe" source="keywords">Marvel Cinematic Universe</keyword> movies and shows. The reasons are plenty — a pandemic that crutched the production quality, added focus on TV shows, expansion of the Universe for secondary characters and a lack of clear vision for the future. While all this was at play, Fox was acquired by Disney with the rights to the Marvel characters coming back to the ‘sacred timeline’ or as we call it, MCU. Since then we have seen references to the X-Men in Marvel's latest work — from the X-Men animated theme being played out in Ms. Marvel (2022) to Beast’s cameo in The Marvels (2023). But it wasn’t until Deadpool &amp; Wolverine that we had our first taste of what this connected universe would look like. In fact, Deadpool, being the merc. with the mouth, made for the perfect character for this merger. So unsurprisingly, Deadpool and Wolverine saw a ton of <keyword id="22604958" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="4th-wall-breaks" source="keywords">4th-wall breaks</keyword>, references from past Fox and MCU releases, and enough fodder for me to write this piece. Easter eggs that I spotted in Deadpool &amp; Wolverine <h2>MCU X Deadpool</h2>We get at least six easter eggs in the first scene of the movie. This is where we see Wade meeting with Happy Hogan played by John Favreu. He is applying to become an Avenger, only to get rejected eventually. But in that room, we see the following: -Iron Man Mark II Helmet -Table Clock from Ironman 2 -A replica shield of Captain America -Peter Parker’s Ironman helmet from Ironman 2 -Peter Parker and Tony Stark’s picture from Spiderman Homecoming -Tony Stark’s simulation of time travel algorithm We then move to Deadpool being brought to TVA, the Time Variance Authority. This is where we meet familiar characters from Loki. It shouldn’t bother you if you haven’t seen the series since there are no references made to that. Here we see Deadpool with Thor, a scene which is actively being shunned throughout the movie. I can only assume that we will see it in its entirety in Avengers: Secret Wars. Then we are introduced to another set of easter eggs from the MCU in the second half. This is where we see: - A dead corpse of Giant-Man - Thanos’ ship - Red Skull car from Captain America: The First Avenger - Doctor Strange’s ring <h2>A final goodbye to Fox’s Marvel Universe</h2>In the early 2000s, we saw many 20th Century Fox films around Marvel characters. Yes, just like Spider-Man with Sony, Fox had the rights of the Fantastic Four and X-Men. With that universe being dissolved, Deadpool &amp; Wolverine gave us a final glimpse of the series with many easter eggs. <h3>Fox Easter Eggs from the void</h3>The easter egg hunt isn’t difficult, especially if you are familiar with the Fox universe. The following has been edited for brevity and clarity.I grew up in LA and have been running my practice at Career Group Companies for about 14 years. The way I started recruiting for some of the bigger names in Hollywood was by getting someone a job who had worked as a personal assistant to a celebrity or for an entertainment company. Then, when they would resign, they would introduce me as the resource to fill their old job.Celebrities often find themselves in these difficult positions where so many people want to work for them, but they also want to weed out fans. Our clients are really looking for somebody who doesn't have ulterior motives to be in the limelight themselves.Because well-known people can't just post online that they're looking for someone and sort through all the responses, they go to a more discreet service like us, where we handle these types of searches for the most high-profile people in the world.The majority of my work is catering to ultra-high-net-worth individuals, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/family-offices-wealth-management-secrets-2023-6">family offices</a>, and celebrities. I also work with the C-suite at major companies, though usually in entertainment. I still have my finance clients and fashion clients, but most of what I do is this celebrity niche.<h2 id="26286f21-b48e-43dc-aef6-294607844e73">How I find candidates</h2>When it's time to fill a job, usually I'll get a text — a 911 text — that says something like, "Help, we need to find a personal assistant for this confidential person." Or I'll get a call or an email. Then, I do a job intake where I connect with either the talent themselves, a spouse, a family member, their business manager, or their agent to get a deep understanding of the problem I'm trying to solve. What does this person or what does this family need?I get details — from somebody's compensation to what the schedule will look like. Does it involve travel? Do they need experience being a family assistant or nanny? Will this be a chief of staff or an estate manager job? I have a roster of candidates looking for jobs. I then go play matchmaker.We have a lot of candidates who know that Career Group Companies is a place to get a job like this. They're applying on our website. I'll get DMs through my Instagram. People will contact me on LinkedIn.Our job postings are vague. That's intentional because we're under such strict NDAs with our clients. Based on conversations I have with applicants — and on social media checks that I do — I can determine who I feel is suited for this line of work.With the social media checks, it depends on the celebrity I'm recruiting for, but most people would shy away from applicants with too large of a social presence. Clients would love someone who isn't looking to be in the limelight themselves. It feels like, "Oh, no, is this person going to try to use this job as a stepping stone to become famous, to go on a reality show, or to write a tell-all book?"People get really concerned about confidentiality and discretion. They want to bring people into their orbit who don't attract much attention.I have a roster of great, pre-vetted people I can call when I get a job that I feel would be a good fit. I'll connect with a candidate over Zoom. I meet with them, and a few other people on my team will also meet with the applicant. We ask similar but different questions and compare notes.I'll then send some résumés to a client. The client might ask who are the top two or three candidates based on the résumés I've sent. Someone on the client side might do a Zoom with a candidate. Then, maybe another member of the client's team might grab a coffee with the candidate. Then, they'll typically take the top two and introduce them to the client.If a candidate gets selected for an interview — even an initial one — I'll send them an NDA. I recently had a client who wanted me to send the candidate a generic NDA. Because if I sent the client's NDA, it would be divulged in the document who the celebrity was. Then, if the candidate moves forward in the process, the client would use their specific NDA.<h2 id="5df8cfcc-fc95-4a36-8e93-9a88ce9eb0ef">What I look for</h2>Somebody's résumé tells a story. If they have a new job every six months or every year, it becomes apparent that it could be an issue with the candidate and not previous employers.Clients really gravitate toward candidates who exemplify loyalty and longevity because even when a job gets hard — and these jobs are very difficult — the client wants to know that their executive right arm, their personal assistant, is going to stick with it.I tend to find people with experience working in the industry or for high-profile executives. If somebody wants to become an executive assistant to a celebrity, there are certain paths you can take. A talent agency can be a great entry point to this world because it's competitive and fast-paced. Agents can be difficult. You're operating with intensity, and there are many high-profile people around you.Candidates with this experience usually aren't starstruck because they're already in the industry. They need to be able to handle sensitive information and be a strong communicator. I find that the talent agency route is like executive assistant boot camp.I also often find that people who were involved in sports in college or high school are super collaborative. They're usually good team players and really determined, disciplined people. In any case, I really need to get to know the candidates to understand their character.Interviewing — with a celebrity or not — can be nerve-racking for most people. Then add on top of it that you're sitting across from someone that you recognize, and you feel like you know them, but you don't. It can add an extra element of stress.<h2 id="2d9b0702-fe7f-4ad8-a929-5f309b116118">What it takes to succeed</h2>People need to be pretty flexible to take on a role like this because it typically involves a 24/7 schedule, long hours, and the ability to travel. The executive assistants might have responsibilities around photoshoots, security, the media, stylists and wardrobe, brand partnerships, and agents and managers.Even if you've been at a talent agency, working in someone's home is much more intimate. Respecting somebody's privacy is key. You're literally in their kitchen or bedroom or traveling with them on their plane. So, it means really understanding that there needs to be a firm boundary between friendship and employer-employee. Often, that line can get blurred.Career Group Companies has hundreds of celebrity clients. We fly under the radar because we have ironclad NDAs. Some of the clients I've worked with include Kevin Costner, Scooter Braun, Maria Shriver, and the Kardashian-Jenner family.I've also worked with corporate clients like Imagine Entertainment, Tiffany &amp; Co., Endeavor Group, and Paramount Pictures. With some of these companies, we'll staff their corporate offices, but also the celebrity's homes.Depending on the size of someone's team, we can be recruiting for a celebrity who has a chief of staff and estate managers. The estate manager oversees housekeepers, chefs, gardening and landscaping crews, pool people, butlers, a driver, and security.Then you have a chief of staff overseeing perhaps four executive assistants, people who run errands, and the nannies. Then you have people who might have a production company, skincare line, or denim brand. I am tasked to staff their receptionist, HR manager, and their head of design. The list goes on.I handle these searches with just as much care as I handle my financial services searches because, at the end of the day, whether someone's an investor or an NBA player, I'm dealing with people. It's really the same across the board, but this one gets more attention because people are naturally curious about celebrities.
