<p>Chinese tech company LeEco, commonly referred to as the "Netflix of China," will announce a strategic investment in Vizio on July 26, Tech Insider has separately confirmed.</p><p>LeEco is best known for its Netflix-like streaming video service (Netflix isn't available in China), but it also makes tons of hardware ranging from smartphones to TVs to virtual reality headsets.</p><p>LeEco sent out invitations to some press Thursday announcing a mysterious event in LA, and we understand that the event will be LeEco's first major public step into the US market. An earlier <a href="http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20160713PD210.html">report in DigiTimes</a> Thursday speculated that LeEco would make an investment in Vizio.</p><p>It's unclear how much LeEco is investing in Vizio, but details on the partnership should be announced at the LA event.</p><p>Here's the invitation to the event:</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>LeEco</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>A LeEco spokesperson declined to comment beyond what's in the invitation. The 'Netflix of China' is coming to the US in a big way

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>REUTERS/Damir Sagolj</span></p><p class="caption">Jia Yueting, co-founder and head of Le Holdings Co Ltd, also known as LeEco and formerly as LeTV, gestures as he unveils an all-electric battery "concept" car called LeSEE during a ceremony in Beijing, China April 20, 2016.</p></div><p></p></div></div>On Wednesday, the sprawling Chinese tech company LeEco, known as the "Netflix of China" for getting its start in streaming video, made a splashy debut in the US with products that ranged from phones to TVs to streaming services.</span></p><p>Two of the big services that piqued people's interests were LeEco's video offerings: EcoPass, a Netflix-like service that also includes cloud storage, and LeEco Live, a streaming TV product. Given LeEco's history in streaming video, the question is whether had a chance to challenge heavyweights like Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu on their own turf.</p><p>LeEco was vague on the details of both services, but pumped up its "content partners" like Lionsgate, Showtime, Vice, and so on. LeEco also said that its existing partnerships in show business were a big key to stocking the new service with TV shows and movies people will actually want to watch, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/leeco-announces-leeco-live-for-united-states-2016-10">my colleague Matt Weinberger reported</a>. Its Chinese library contains over 5,000 movies and 100,000 TV episodes, <a href="https://www.wired.com/2016/10/leeco-in-america/">Wired noted</a>.</p><p>On stage Wednesday, LeEco did a demonstration of how its video can work across all devices in the LeEco ecosystem. In a demo, LeEco showed someone using a two finger-swipe to take a Showtime video playing on their LeEco smartphone and seamlessly stream it to their Vizio TV (which LeEco owns).</p><p>But what does Showtime's "partnership" with LeEco actually entail?</p><p>"It just means that the Showtime app is going to be preinstalled on all of the LeEco smart TVs, so no need for customers to download at their app store," a Showtime spokesperson told Business Insider. "They'd still have to subscribe as they normally do."</p><p>So it's basically the same as having the Showtime app on your Apple TV or Roku.</p><p>What about Sling TV, another announced partner? "Our relationship with LeEco is similar to other Android TV providers," a spokesperson said. So again, you still have to subscribe separately. The same is true for both Seeso and IndieFlix, both also announced at the event.</p><p>It appears that many of the content partners touted at LeEco's event aren't giving any special treatment to LeEco's service. And none of the relationships are exclusive, <a href="https://www.wired.com/2016/10/leeco-in-america/">according to Wired</a>.</p><p>One company that is different is Lionsgate. Lionsgate is licensing a significant number of library films and television series to LeEco Live.</p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">At the event, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheime described the company's relationship with LeEco. "It started with ZZ and Le Vision distributing our films in China," he said. "I've got to admit, they did such a great job that some of those films did even better in China than they did in the US … I'm pleased to announce today that we have also reached an agreement to license a significant amount of content to the new LeEco Live platform here in the US."</span></p><p>It remains to be seem exactly which Lionsgate shows and movies will appear on the platform, but the takeaway from it all is that LeEco doesn't seem to have, for now, put together the type of streaming service that could compete with the big guns. This is especially true since streaming companies like Netflix have begun to focus on exclusivity and original content to differentiate themselves.</p><p>Part of LeEco's lack of exclusive content might be strategy. In China, LeEco built its business starting from streaming video and then expanding into phones, TV, bikes, and even cars. But in the US it seems to be doing the opposite.</p><p>"In the US they're doing it almost backwards. Why Netflix shouldn't be scared of the 'Netflix of China' and its splashy US debut - yet

LeEco is a strategic partner of Faraday Future, an electric car start-up based in southern California. Yueting is also a personal investor in Faraday Future.</p><p>But Yueting was sure not to promise the car's arrival at CES, only saying Faraday Future will perhaps show it.</p><p>Faraday Future did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.</p><p>Faraday Future generated a lot of hype for a car reveal ahead of the 2016 CES, but <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/people-are-unimpressed-with-faraday-future-2016-1" target="_blank">people were disappointed</a> to only see a concept car.</p><p>Meanwhile, LeEco has its own car plans. The company showed its own <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/a-closer-look-at-leeco-electric-car-lesee-2016-8" target="_blank">electric concept car</a> with autonomous capabilities in April. </p><p>LeEco <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/china-tesla-killer-electric-car-lesee-2016-9" target="_blank">raised</a> $1.08 billion to develop its electric car in September. The news came about a month after LeEco invested $1.8 billion to build an electric-car plant in eastern China with eventual annual production capacity of 400,000 cars.</p><p>LeEco was supposed to show the car, the LeSEE Pro, at the event. But Yueting said it got into an accident on the way from Los Angeles to the event in San Francisco. A Faraday Future investor just hinted the company may reveal its first electric car in January

<br /> Right from a LED TV to smartphone and virtual reality goggles, <keyword id="3220584" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Le-Eco">Le Eco</keyword> has created a niche for it in the Chinese market. However China’s most expensive film "The Great Wall," due to be released in next February is being produced by by <keyword id="3773010" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="LeEco-Global-Group">LeEco Global Group</keyword>, a Beijing-based company that's virtually unheard of in the West but is planning its own invasion - of the US.<br />
<br /> <keyword id="310615" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Le">Le</keyword> Eco is also a multi-faceted <keyword id="4578" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="entertainment">entertainment</keyword> company, producing films like "The Expendables 2" and shows like "Go Princess Go," which tells the story of a 21st century playboy who travels back in time to ancient China. It operates a popular Chinese video subscription service and also makes electric cars and a smart bike (it has laser pointers, a heart rate sensor and built-in speaker).<br />
<br /> Like other tech companies, <keyword id="3205550" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="LeEco">LeEco</keyword> (Le means happy in Chinese, and Eco is short for Ecosystem) dreams of weaving all these products and services together. Start a LeEco movie on your LeEco smartphone, resume it on your <keyword id="3261986" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="LeEco-TV">LeEco TV</keyword> and finish in your LeEco autonomous car. The company hopes this vision can resonate outside its home country. At an event on Wednesday in <keyword id="12161" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="San-Francisco">San Francisco</keyword>, LeEco is showing off a selection of products, including UHD TVs, smartphones, virtual reality goggles and electric bikes, which will soon go on sale to US consumers, reports <keyword id="29740" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bloomberg">Bloomberg</keyword>.<br />

In China, LeEco sells its hardware at razor-thin margins. It derives profits from selling subscriptions to movies and television shows (some of it produced by LeEco), in addition to offering access to streamed sporting events, digital music and cloud storage.<br />
<br /> The business model will be difficult to export to the US, since the company does not yet produce any original TV shows or movies targeted to American audiences. But the process is on. In September, LeEco recruited <keyword id="3773011" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adam-Goodman">Adam Goodman</keyword>, the former president of <keyword id="21575" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Paramount">Paramount</keyword> Pictures' Motion Pictures Group, to join its <keyword id="3773013" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Le-Vision-Entertainment">Le Vision Entertainment</keyword> unit in <keyword id="6354803" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Los-Angeles">Los Angeles</keyword>. He's tasked with replicating the global blockbusters that he produced at Paramount, including the "Mission Impossible" and "Star Trek" franchises.<br />
<br /> According to Bloomberg news, the company also has ambitions in <keyword id="6357722" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="silicon-valley">Silicon Valley</keyword>. It has persuaded executives from <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword> and <keyword id="104695" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Qualcomm">Qualcomm</keyword> to join its American team. Earlier this year, LeEco purchased 49 acres of land from <keyword id="6363100" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yahoo">Yahoo</keyword> in <keyword id="146130" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Santa-Clara">Santa Clara</keyword>, where it plans to build headquarters for up to 12,000 employees.<br />
<br /> Alibaba, Tencent and <keyword id="70373" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Baidu">Baidu</keyword> have opened modest offices in Silicon Valley, and have made investments in US startups. However Le Eco is far different than these Chinese tech giants. In the US, consumers are too reluctant to experiment with new brands and stick to established ones. Now the game is on to see how Le Eco grows in the US, while most Chinese brands have only shown razor-thin margins.

Le Eco is now ambitious to reach out to global market

Long before the world will see a working concept of Faraday Future's forthcoming production vehicles, the aspiring automaker's business partner has revealed its own.<p>LeEco, the Chinese media company that is a strategic partner with Faraday Future, has unveiled the LeSEE, an electric sedan that LeEco is positioning as a Tesla Model S challenger.</p><p>At an event in Beijing last week, LeEco executives touted the LeSEE as a car built with autonomous technology in mind. The steering wheel folds away and screens offer up in-car entertainment for passengers.</p><p>LeEco is a massive media conglomerate in China, so it follows that the company intends to work its many product lines into the LeSEE, including streaming internet content.</p><p>The company's CEO, Jia Yueting, is also personally backing US-based Faraday Future (FF). FF's lead research, development, and engineering guy, Nick Sampson, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/faraday-future-to-begin-construction-on-factory-in-nevada-2016-4">told Business Insider earlier this month</a> that FF would have a concept version of its production vehicle before the end of this year.</p><p>It recently showed off <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/faraday-futures-first-production-car-could-be-revealed-this-year-2016-4">a teaser photo</a> of said vehicle.</p><p>Auto industry watchers have said that LeEco's big reveal in Beijing last week is what FF's debut at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas should've been. The company working with Faraday Future drives its own new electric car on stage

It will launch early next year, but we have no information about price or specific availability.</p><p>LeEco is hyping up its existing partnerships in show business, thanks to its core business in China, as a big key to stocking the new service with TV shows and movies people will actually want to watch.</p><p>LeEco started off as a streaming video service, but has since expanded to TVs, virtual reality headsets, smartphones, and even electric car concepts.</p><p>The company says LeEco Live is designed to work with all of those devices, with a consistent experience across all of them - in a demo, LeEco showed someone using a two finger-swipe to take a Showtime video playing on their LeEco smartphone and seamlessly stream it to their Vizio TV. </p><p>Netflix, especially, is relatively entrenched in America, so it won't be easy for LeEco to break in. But LeEco is already dominating China, and that might be enough momentum to give LeEco Live a fighting shot when it launches in early 2017.</p><p>In general, LeEco is <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/leeco-buys-yahoo-land-in-santa-clara-2016-6">making a huge push into the American markets</a>, including with smartphones and TVs. The biggest Chinese company you've never heard of is taking a big shot at Netflix and Hulu

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="https://www.facebook.com/LeEcoGlobal/photos/a.1604271533143815.1073741828.1535727923331510/1729153000655667/?type=3&amp;theater">Facebook/LeEco</a></span></p></div><p></p></div></div>Chinese company LeEco is running into some more trouble with its electric car plans. </p><p><a href="https://www.buzzfeed.com/priya/turmoil-at-faraday-future?utm_term=.cogNdX9nv#.hljEbQq8R" target="_blank">Buzzfeed News</a> reported today that LeEco leaned on Faraday Future, the startup it has a strategic partnership with, to design its self-driving car, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/china-tesla-killer-electric-car-lesee-2016-9" target="_blank">the LeSee</a>. LeEco's CEO Jia Yueting is a personal investor in Faraday Future.</p><p>Faraday Future employees were pulled off their core projects to work on LeSee car that was shown on stage at an event in April. The car, said to boast autonomous capabilities at the event, was actually being piloted backstage via a remote control, Buzzfeed reported.</p><p>Faraday Future declined to comment for this story. </p><p>LeEco did not immediately return Business Insider's request for comment.</p><p>The news comes a month after Yueting told LeEco staff that the company was <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/r-chinas-leeco-to-slow-pace-of-growth-faces-big-company-disease-ceo-2016-11" target="_blank">facing a shortage of cash</a> from expanding too fast and in too many directions.</p><p>Faraday Future has had troubles of its own. It <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/faraday-future-production-vehicle-release-date-2016-11" target="_blank">stopped work</a> at its $1 billion factory in North Las Vegas and is likely to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/faraday-future-production-vehicle-release-date-2016-11" target="_blank">miss the shipping deadline</a> for its production vehicles that were said to come to market some time in 2017.</p><p>Dan Schwartz, Nevada's state treasurer, has been a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/who-is-backing-faraday-future-2016-3" target="_blank">vocal skeptic</a> of the Faraday Future project since Nevada offered the startup millions in tax incentives to build its factory.</p><p>Buzzfeed News also reported that a <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/3239346-Futuris-Faraday.html" target="_blank">lawsuit</a> was filed against Faraday Future from auto supplier Futuris for falling behind on $10 million worth of payments.
