An Indo-German team of researchers has discovered a new species of catfish in <keyword id="28504" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="kerala" source="Orion">Kerala</keyword> measuring no more than 32 millimeters, with no eyes and a blood-red body. The researchers studied the genus <keyword id="7614752" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="horaglanis" source="Orion">Horaglanis</keyword> of catfish -- a diverse group of ray-finned fish. The tiny members of this genus, only about three centimetres in length, live in local aquifers without light. As part of a broad-based Citizen Science project, the study published in the journal Vertebrate Zoology was able to gather information on the distribution of the animals, their genetics, and evolutionary history. "Currently, 289 fish species are known from subterranean aquatic habitats worldwide -- less than 10 per cent of them live in aquifers," said <keyword id="5800719" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ralf-britz" source="Orion">Ralf Britz</keyword> of the Senckenberg Natural History Collections. "In order to obtain information from this almost unknown biotope, we conducted a six-year study of water-bearing laterite rock layers and their fascinating fish fauna in the southern Indian state of Kerala," <keyword id="4220271" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="britz" source="Orion">Britz</keyword> said. Horaglanis fishes live exclusively in aquifers, are very small, blind, and they lack pigments. "There are very few documented occurrences of these species -- as a rule, these elusive little fish only come to the surface when a domestic well is being dug or cleaned," Britz explained. The biologist and his Indian colleagues, led by <keyword id="2481025" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rajeev-raghavan" source="Orion">Rajeev Raghavan</keyword> from the University of Kochi, Kerala and Neelesh Dahanukar from Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence, Delhi-NCR, relied on the cooperation of local citizen scientists. Over a six-year period, they conducted a series of workshops, focus group discussions, and informal conversations with communities at several sites, including the type localities of the three Horaglanis species known to date. The researchers complemented this citizen science approach with targeted collection efforts in wells and above-ground storage tanks, with scoop nets in shallow wetlands, water channels, home gardens, and plantations, and with the use of baited traps in excavated wells on farmsteads, in ponds, and caves. "This allowed us to generate data sets with a total of 47 new site detections and 65 new genetic sequences. These show, among other things, that Horaglanis are endemic to the part of Kerala state south of the Palghat Gap -- the mountain pass apparently represents a biogeographical barrier for the subterranean world as well," Britz explained. "The genus is characterised by a high level of genetic diversity that has evolved over millions of years -- although the fishes' appearance has changed remarkably little," he added. In addition, the team succeeded in identifying a new species: Horaglanis populi is a catfish measuring no more than 32 millimetres, with no eyes and a blood-red body, and is genetically distinct from the three previously known Horaglanis species. "The specific name populi, the genitive of the Latin noun for 'people,' honours the invaluable contributions of the interested public in Kerala who helped document the biodiversity of these subterranean fishes -- including the discovery of the new species," says Britz. "Our Horaglanis project is an excellent example of how public involvement can greatly increase our knowledge of rarely collected organisms that live in relatively inaccessible habitats. Local people expand the researchers' 'eyes and ears' by several orders of magnitude," he added. More than 20.61 lakh tests for detection of COVID-19 were conducted in a span of 24 hours in the country, the highest-ever tests done in a <keyword id="1275470" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="single-day">single day</keyword>, while the daily positivity rate has declined to 12.59 per cent, the <keyword id="83655" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-health-ministry">Union health ministry</keyword> said on Friday. <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>'s COVID-19 daily recoveries continued to outnumber the daily new cases for the eighth consecutive day, with 3,57,295 patients recuperating in a span of 24 hours. The cumulative recoveries have reached 2,27,12,735 in the country, it said. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 32,44,17,870 samples have been tested for the novel coronavirus infection till May 20 with 20,61,683 samples being tested on Thursday. Further, India has recorded less than 3 lakh new cases for five consecutive days now. Ten states--Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, <keyword id="37102" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Andhra-Pradesh">Andhra Pradesh</keyword>, West Bengal, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Assam--reported 76.66 per cent of the 2,59,551 new cases registered in a day, the ministry said. <keyword id="20154" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword> has reported the highest daily new cases at 35,579 followed by Kerala with 30,491 cases. The ministry said eight states namely Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, cumulatively account for 69.47 per cent of the country's total active cases. Besides, the cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country exceeded 19 crore. A total of 19,18,79,503 vaccine doses have been administered through 27,53,883 sessions, as per the provisional report till 7 am on Friday. These include 97,24,339 healthcare workers (HCWs) who have taken the first dose and 66,80,968 HCWs who have taken the second dose; 1,47,91,600 frontline workers (FLWs) who have received the first dose, 82,85,253 FLWs the second dose and 86,04,498 beneficiaries in the 18-44 years age group who received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Besides, 5,98,35,256 and 95,80,860 beneficiaries aged 45 to 60 years have been administered the first and second doses, respectively, while 5,62,45,627 and 1,81,31,102 beneficiaries aged above 60 years have taken the first and second doses, respectively, the ministry added. Around 20.61 lakh COVID-19 test conducted in a single day, positivity rate dips to 12.59%, says Union health ministry

Dubai, May 7 () A total of 354 Indian nationals, including 11 pregnant women and a pair of twins, will return home on Thursday in the first two flights from the UAE to Kerala as India begins its biggest ever repatriation exercise to bring back its citizens stranded abroad amidst the international travel lockdown over the coronavirus pandemic.On Monday, the Indian government announced plans to begin a phased repatriation of its citizens stranded abroad from May 7. The government also said that Air India will operate 64 flights from May 7 to May 13 to bring back around 15,000 Indian nationals stranded abroad amid the COVID-19-induced lockdown.Short-listing the first passengers from among a database of more than 200,000 applicants, who include around 6,500 pregnant women, has been a mammoth task which posed several challenges for the missions, Neeraj Agrawal, Consul, Press, Information and Culture at the Indian Consulate in Dubai told the Gulf News.As many as 354 of them from the UAE will fly back to India in the first two flights to Kerala on Thursday, the report said.An Air India Express flight, which is scheduled to take off from Abu Dhabi to Kochi at 4.15 pm is the first flight, which will be followed by a Dubai-Kozhikode flight of the same airline at 5.10pm, it said. India is conducting its biggest ever repatriation exercise named Vande Bharat Mission-sans social distancing and COVID-19 tests to bring back stranded Indians from abroad.The Indian missions in the UAE finalised the list of passengers, who were chosen based on the compelling reasons they submitted while registering their names."Only passengers with confirmed tickets must proceed to the airport. They are required to reach the airport five hours prior to departure," Agrawal said.The Indian Consulate has appealed to passengers not to overcrowd the airport, maintain social distancing and follow all necessary precautions stipulated by the authorities, he was quoted as saying by the report."We are trying to accommodate as many deserving people as possible. We expect the understanding of the people. It has been very difficult to sort out everyone's urgency," he said."Though we want to give priority to pregnant women, it is practically not possible and not good for the health and safety of the applicants to allot a lot of them on the same flight."He said 11 pregnant women have been issued tickets on the Dubai-Kozhikode flight, the report added.He said the government is trying to add more flights to un-chartered destinations and a new flight from Dubai to Kannur has been added on May 12.An elderly couple is on the list who was in Dubai to visit their son when the lockdown in India led to cancellation of flights and they could not leave from the UAE."We are really lucky to have made it to the list. Ahead of the IPO, CBS Bank had also raised ₹184.36 crore via an allotment of 94.54 lakh shares to 24 anchor investors. "I chatted with the agent who convinced me that I will have a job in a supermarket as soon as I land. He told me I will get Dh1,200 as monthly salary and free food and accommodation. I was going through tough times, and thought it would be a good start for me," said Fazil, a qualified technician. When they landed in Dubai, that they realised they had been tricked. According to the victims, a local agent took them to Ajman and Al Ain. The Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi has now pitched in to send them back home. This is, however, not the only case. Last month, five men were left without jobs in Dubai, who moved on visitor visas to the country. "We have reported about 40 such cases to Indian authorities and police investigations are on. That is important to deter these illegal agents from duping more people," the embassy told The Khaleej Times. The embassy has thus warned the jobseekers to use official channels and follow immigration rules. On the flipside, the <a href="https://www.khaleejtimes.com/uae/dubai/7600-jobs-created-in-dubai-last-month-">UAE extended 2,394 new licenses</a> to foreign nationals in June this year — including Indians. New Delhi, Apr 3 () The Finance Ministry on Friday released Rs 17,287 crore to states to enhance their financial resources during the COVID-19 crisis. Of this amount, Rs 11,092 crore is towards State Disaster Response Mitigation Fund (SDRMF) to all states.An amount of Rs 6,195 crore has been released as 'Post Devolution Revenue Deficit Grant' to 14 states namely Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttarakhand and West Bengal. "The @FinMinIndia today released a total of Rs 17,287.08 crore to different States to enhance their financial resources during the #COVID19 crisis, " the Office of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in a tweet. This includes Rs 6,195.08 crore on account of 'revenue deficit grant' under 15th Finance Commission recommendations to 14 states.The remaining Rs 11,092 crore is to all states as advanced payment of Central share of first instalment of SDRMF. This includes Rs 1,611 crore to Maharashtra, Rs 966 crore to Uttar Pradesh, Rs 910 crore to Madhya Pradesh, Rs 708 crore to Bihar, Rs 802 crore to Odisha, Rs 740.50 crore to Rajasthan, and Rs 505.50 crore to West Bengal, it added. Bringing Indian football out of hibernation 
The Indian Super league was founded in 2013 after seeing that many Indians are crazy about football craze, but sadly, have no national football league to follow. The Indian Super League aims to turn the table. 
 
It would function like Twenty20 cricket IPL and will comprise eight franchise teams, owned from people and companies across the country. The league will commence in October and end in December. 
 
Slugging it out 
Eight teams that will compete in this league are as follows: 
 
· Atlético de Kolkata, coached by Antonio López Habas, with Spain as the foreign draft. 
· Chennai Titans, coached by Marco Materazzi with Italy as the foreign draft. 
· Delhi Dynamos FC, coached by Harm van Veldhoven with Netherlands as the foreign draft. 
· FC Goa, coached by Fatorda Stadium Zico with Brazil as the foreign draft. 
· Kerala Blasters FC, coached by David James with England as the foreign draft. 
· Mumbai City FC, coached by Peter Reid with England as the foreign draft. 
· North East United FC, coached by Ricki Herbert with New Zealand as the foreign draft. 
· FC Pune City, coached by Franco Colomba with Italy as the foreign draft. 
 
Who’s who in the <keyword id="244888" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Isl">ISL</keyword> The league is owned by Reliance Industries Ltd, Star India Pvt. Ltd. and IMG Worldwide Inc. It would be broadcast exclusively on STAR Sports and will have Hero MotoCorp as the title sponsor; thus the name <keyword id="2430942" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hero-Indian-Super-League">Hero Indian Super League</keyword>. From Bollywood, we have John Abraham who co-owns the team North East United FC, Ranbir Kapoor who co-owns the team Mumbai City FC, Abhishek Bachchan who co-owns Chennai Titans, Salman Khan who co-owns FC Pune City, and Varun Dhawan who is the brand ambassador of FC Goa. From the field of Indian Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar is the co-owner of Kerala Blasters FC and Sourav Ganguly is the co-owner of Atletico de Kolkata. 
 
Rules of the game 
Every year, the league would be played between October and December. Each team will play against all other teams twice on a home-and-away basis, almost like the Pro Kabaddi League. The top four teams will qualify for the finals. 
 
While building their teams, each team will have to sign: 
· At least seven foreigners, out of which two will be from the club and five will be from the foreign player draft; 
· One marquee player, which in the words of AIFF is "A foreign recruit who has represented his country in any of the continental championships like the European Championship, Copa America, African Nations Cup, Asian Cup, or FIFA World Cup will be called a marquee player;" and 
· 14 Indian domestic players, four of which have to be local players from the city the team belongs to.

Team owners’ investments in the ISL are worth having a look. Different teams have shelled out crores to buy foreign players—the date is given below: 
 
Goa: Rs 2.46 crore 
Chennai Titans: Rs 2.34 crore 
Atletico de Kolkata: Rs 2.17 crore 
Mumbai City: Rs 2.10 crore 
Kerala Blasters: Rs 1.98 crore 
Pune City: Rs 1.75 crore 
Delhi Dynamos: Rs 1.62 crore 
North East United: Rs 1.62 crore 
 
With people from Bollwood and Indian Cricket taking up various roles in this league, be it owners or promoters, the league is surely going to be one gala event to watch out for.
