Pure electric mid-sized SUVs for international markets are to be launched from 2025 onwards, according to a release from Tata Motors. The electric cars, based on the Avinya concept, will now be developed on JLR's Electrified Modular Architecture in exchange for a royalty fee, according to the press release issued on Thursday. "Avinya stands for 'Innovation' and represents our vision for a new paradigm in personal mobility. Being built on an architecture that is equipped with the latest advances in new-age technology, software and artificial intelligence, Avinya will spawn a new breed of world-class EVs, with global standards in efficiency and range. We are delighted to collaborate on the EMA platform with JLR for actualizing this vision," Anand Kulkarni, Chief Product Officer and Head HV Programmes, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility. Thomas Mueller, Executive Director, Product Engineering, JLR, said, "We are proud that JLR's world class engineering expertise, demonstrated by our EMA platform, will help accelerate TPEM's electrification journey. The access to JLR's platform will help accelerate TPEM's entry into the high-end EV segment while reducing development cycle time and costs. Tata Motors' subsidiary signs MoU with Jaguar to develop premium EVs

<keyword id="45218" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jlr" source="Orion">JLR</keyword> India on Monday said it has recorded its best ever first quarter sales in the country in April-June 2023. The company said its retail sales rose 102 per cent to 1,048 units in the June quarter as compared with the same period last year. The performance was enabled by a phenomenal growth of 209 per cent in <keyword id="91410" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="range-rover" source="Orion">Range Rover</keyword>, Range Rover Sport and Defender sales, JLR India said in a statement. The three models continue to see sustained demand, contributing 78 per cent of the current order book, it added. "This performance is testament to the exceptional equity of the JLR brands and our class-leading collection of modern luxury vehicles. Backed by the growing demand among our discerning clients, our order book remains strong and growing, and we are excited and confident of our India story ahead," JLR India Managing Director Rajan Amba stated. JLR said its pre-owned business grew 137 per cent in the first quarter of the current fiscal. The company stated that it has an impressive line-up of product initiatives scheduled for the year, starting with the enhanced Range Rover Velar - bookings for which commenced recently. JLR India reports highest ever first quarter sales

New Delhi, Apr 18 () Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) on Saturday reported a 12.1 per cent decline in retail sales at 5,08,659 units for the financial year 2019-20, with the coronavirus pandemic significantly impacting offtakes in the fourth quarter. The company's total retail sales in the fourth quarter of the previous financial year stood at 1,09,869 vehicles, down 30.9 per cent as compared with the January-March period of the financial year 2018-19, Tata Motors said in a regulatory filing. Sales of the company were impacted across all regions, including North America, China and the UK, during the previous financial year, it added. "2019-20 has been a year of unprecedented disruption for the automotive sector. Despite the impact of regulatory change, shifting consumer tastes, Brexit and ongoing trade tensions, sales for JLR were showing improvement until the coronavirus pandemic hit in the fourth quarter," JLR Chief Commercial Officer Felix Brautigam said. JLR is doing whatever it can to support its communities through the current situation, he added. "To date, this has included the deployment of more than 300 JLR vehicles around the world to organisations such as the Red Cross and other emergency services," Brautigam said. In light of the ongoing coronavirus situation, JLR has temporarily suspended production at its facilities outside China. In addition, the company is tightly managing all other costs and investments as well as working capital, Tata Motors said. JLR will be reporting audited results for the financial year ended March 31 at a later date but ended this financial year with 3.6 billion pounds of cash and short-term investments and an undrawn revolving credit facility of 1.9 billion pounds, it added. JLR sales dip 12 pc in 2019-20 as coronavirus takes toll in fourth quarter

New Delhi, Dec 18 () Tata Motors owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) on Wednesday said it has acquired Bowler, a UK-based manufacturer of all-terrain performance cars, parts and rally raid vehicles.
 Founded in 1985, Bowler pioneered the production of dedicated off-road competition cars in the UK and has achieved success in international rally raid events.
 The entity would now be a part of JLR's Special Vehicle Operations business.
 "For almost 35 years the Bowler name has stood for innovation and success, with a reputation forged by its participation in the world's toughest off-road motorsport competitions. It's exciting that we're now in a position to participate in and lead the Bowler brand's future as part of JLR," JLR Special Vehicle Operations Managing Director Michael van der Sande said in a statement.
 The Bowler business, which is now fully-owned by JLR, would continue to operate from its premises in Belper for the foreseeable future.
 "Adding the Bowler team's skills and experience to those of SV, vehicle personalisation and classic is a key step in our strategy to create an exciting and diverse portfolio of products and businesses within Special Vehicle Operations," van der Sande said.
 The company's focus is on ensuring continuity of support for Bowler employees and customers during this transition to JLR, he added.
 Since its inception, Bowler has had a close affiliation with Land Rover, which was formalised with a brand partnership in 2012 that led to the creation of the popular Defender Challenge by Bowler rally series in 2014-2016. MSS

Revenue from JLR fell by a billion dollars in the year ending March 2019 and made profit in only one of the four quarters last year. Last year, Tata Motors had to take an impairment-- write down the value-- of ₹27,838 crore due to weak sales and profitability at JLR. Things continue to look bleak even after 4,500 jobs were axed. This posed a question in front of N Chandrasekharan, the Chairman of the group's parent Tata Sons, on how long will the conglomerate continue to back the bleeding giant. "A company cannot shut the cash tap as the very nature of this business demands continuous investment in product and technology development," he <a href="https://www.indiatvnews.com/auto/cars-jaguar-land-rover-looking-for-financial-partnership-in-china-tata-chairman-n-chandrasekaran-539207" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">reportedly</a> said at the Annual General Meeting. "There are many discussions from tactical to strategic for such partnerships. Opportunities are coming and we keep evaluating them and as long as it is in the interest of Tata Motors. We will forge such partnerships so that we are able to address the capex issue," he told the shareholders. Tata Motors has already joined hands with German giant and rival BMW recently for a collaboration for manufacturing electric vehicles under the JLR banner.  Any recovery for the JLR hinges a lot on how Brexit unfolds. “Uncertainty around an orderly outcome of Brexit negotiations and the evolving global tariffs situation pose risks, in particular to TML's JLR business, which faces a significant level of production-sales mismatch due to concentration of its production base in the UK,” global ratings agency Fitch said while downgrading Tata Motors for JLR's troubles. Aside from Brexit, the US-China trade war and <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/tata-motors-mulls-selling-stake-in-jlr-agencies/articleshow/68216938.cms">signs</a> of a slowdown in the global economy are also compounding JLR's problems. China has traditionally been one of the biggest markets for the luxury car but sale volumes fell a sharp 29% between April and June this year, compared to the same time last year. A month back, credit rating agency Moody’s had downgraded Tata Motors. In addition to JLR related troubles, Tata Motors’ domestic business is also troubled by a general slowdown in the auto market. In June 2019, Tata Motors <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/companies/tata-motors-global-sales-dip-5-in-june-4195251.html">reported </a>a 14% decline in India sales, while a 5% drop was seen in global sales. Tata Motors is looking for partnerships to revive Jaguar Land Rover

New Delhi, May 20 () Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), a part of Tata Motors, on Wednesday announced the rollout of first unit from Solihull facility in the UK, marking the end of temporary suspension of production at the plant due to coronavirus pandemic. The first Range Rover made under new social distancing measures drove off the production line at the company's manufacturing plant in Solihull on Wednesday, JLR said in a statement. Social distancing, hygiene and health monitoring measures are in place following an extensive review of all production lines, engineering facilities, office areas and communal spaces as the company starts a phased return to manufacturing, it added. "Seeing the first Range Rover come off our line today is a defining moment for Jaguar Land Rover, for all of us who work for the company and the many businesses in our supply chain," JLR Executive Director, Manufacturing, Grant McPherson said. It marks the end of the company's temporary shutdown and signals the beginning of a return to normality, he added. "Clearly the health, safety and wellbeing of the JLR family is our primary concern. We have developed the most effective protocol and guidelines so that our people feel reassured about coming back to the workplace," JLR Chief Medical Officer Steve Iley said. Production has also resumed this week at Nitra (Slovakia) and Graz (Austria), the company said. Last week, the team at the Engine Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton (UK) began building Ingenium engines again to enable the gradual return to vehicle production, it added. Besides, manufacturing will resume at Halewood (UK) on June 8, starting with one shift and small pockets of business-critical activity are taking place at Castle Bromwich as the company prepares for new model year introductions, the automaker said. The company's joint venture plant in Changshu (China) has been operational since the middle of February, JLR said. "As countries are relaxing distancing guidelines and retailers are reopening around the world, the restart of production at the company's other plants will be confirmed in due course," it added. JLR resumes production at Solihull plant in UK after temporary suspension due to COVID-19

S&amp;P Global Ratings has downgraded <keyword id="42747" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword> to more vulnerable to non-payment grade 'B' citing weaker-than-expected credit metrics owing to the disruptions and economic impact from the <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> pandemic. The ratings agency which had earlier rated Tata Motors B+ has, however, kept the outlook on the company stable. "The impact of COVID-19 on the global automotive market will make a large dent in the recent good progress that JLR's management has made in steering the business back to profitability and improving credit metrics. In turn, this would delay the improvement we had expected in Tata Motors' credit profile," S&amp;P said in a statement. It further said the previous 'B+' rating on Tata Motors was predicated on expectation that revenues and profit margins at both <keyword id="6354362" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jaguar-Land-Rover">Jaguar Land Rover</keyword> (JLR) and Tata Motors' Indian operations would improve steadily in fiscals 2020-2022. "Even before the COVID-19 outbreak, JLR's sales volumes for fiscal 2020 were likely to decline, while the Indian operations were affected significantly by structural changes in the commercial vehicle segment and a slowing economy," it stated. S&amp;P said it has now "altered our assumptions given uncertainty in production volumes and demand following the pandemic. We now forecast Tata Motors' consolidated revenues to decline about 5 per cent in fiscal 2021 following a sharp revenue drop in fiscal 2020." The ratings agency further said it views positively the management's focus on conserving cash amid the changes in operating conditions. "We expect consolidated capital expenditure (capex) in fiscal 2021 to be at least 20 per cent below fiscal 2020 levels. "Management has also identified significant further cost-cutting areas at JLR under "Project Charge +". Even so, we anticipate free <keyword id="2067335" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Operating-cash-flow">operating cash flow</keyword> (FOCF) will be negative for the next couple of years at least," it added. Tata Motors' recent announcement to subsidiarize its domestic passenger car business and to explore mutually beneficial partnerships could be positive. However, the plans are at an early stage and are not expected to have a significant impact in fiscal 2021, S&amp;P said. "The stable outlook mainly reflects our view that Tata Motors will maintain adequate liquidity over the next two years. This would partly mitigate the company's weakening leverage and cash flow-based metrics," the agency said. S&amp;P further said while negative FOCF is a risk over the period, "we believe Tata Motors has financial flexibility as part of the Tata Group, though the benefits are more pronounced at the Indian operations than at JLR". The Indian operations also face less cash flow pressure despite weaker earnings relative to JLR, thanks to a more manageable capex plan, it added. On the possibility of further downgrading ratings on Tata Motors, S&amp;P said "a downgrade to 'B-' would largely be the result of a deterioration in Tata Motors' liquidity position". "In our view, this would be more likely driven by lower financial flexibility and reduced fundraising ability, than a deeper operational decline. That said, a significant underperformance of earnings relative to our current estimates could contribute to this scenario," it said. In the absence of significant developments, an upgrade in the next 12 months is less likely given the negative outlook on JLR, which has a significant influence on Tata Motors' credit profile, S&amp;P said. "A rating higher than that on JLR is possible if the Indian operations strengthen appreciably such that JLR has a lower influence on the consolidated financial profile. Hence, its results are highly dependent on that of the UK luxury vehicle brand. </li><li>As concerns over a <keyword id="106030" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-China">US-China</keyword> <keyword id="182860" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="trade-war">trade war</keyword> mount, JLR is shutting down production at its facility in Solihull, UK for two weeks. </li></ul>The last few years have been a mixed bag for Tata Motors in terms of commercial performance as its fortunes have been directly tied to its UK luxury car business, <keyword id="6354362" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jaguar-Land-Rover">Jaguar Land Rover</keyword> (JLR), which provides a bulk of its revenues and profits. For example, in the year ended March 2018, the unit comprised 77% of Tata Motors’ revenue from automotive operations. When JLR does well, Tata Motors does well and vice versa. As demand has slumped in the UK and Europe amid Brexit uncertainty, JLR had pinned its hopes on the luxury vehicle market in China. Last year, it set up a manufacturing facility in the city of Changshu through a joint venture with Chery Automobile Ltd. The unit posted record sales in China in 2017, with sales up 23% to 146,399 units. However, the US-China trade war has significantly hurt JLR’s sales this year, and by extension, has dragged down Tata Motors’ performance. On 8 October, JLR <a href="https://www.tatamotors.com/force-download/?att_id=zcM4mA1L9Nyxl-jdZaZX7Q==&amp;file=iIX5SvrxPyPB5cb7u10VMw==">announced</a> that its global sales fell by 12% in September, driven by a 46% plunge in sales in China owing to the uncertainty and weak consumer demand in the light of trade tensions and import duty changes. The results caused Tata Motors’ share price on the Bombay Stock Exchange to fall by nearly 14% to ₹186 - the lowest level since mid- 2012. Earlier this year, Tata Motors posted its worst quarterly result since 2009 as JLR’s sales in China plummeted. For the quarter ended June 2018, JLR reported a loss of £210m, causing Tata Motors’ net loss for the period to widen to <a href="https://www.bseindia.com/xml-data/corpfiling/AttachLive/e11b2867-9ecf-453e-9afd-7188bb09be3e.pdf">₹18.6 billion</a>. As concerns over a US-China trade war mount, Tata Motors is responding to the decline in Chinese demand by lowering production and cutting costs where it can.
