<ul><li>The Ministry of External Affairs every year organises internship opportunities of six months in two terms.</li><li>Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the online application for Term 2 has not opened yet, and the ministry will soon announce the dates.</li><li>The ministry will select 30 interns with a monthly stipend of ₹10,000 per month.</li></ul>The Ministry of External Affairs (<keyword id="6358274" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MEA" source="Orion">MEA</keyword>) every year organises an internship opportunity for budding scholars to familiarise themselves with the process of formulation of foreign policy and its implementation by the Government of India. The duration of the internship is six months offered in two terms -- Term 1 (January to June) and Term 2 (July to December). Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the online application for Term 2 has not opened yet, and the ministry will soon announce the dates. Interested candidates can keep a check on their <a href="https://www.internship.mea.gov.in/">official website</a>. The ministry will select 30 interns and they shall report to, work under close supervision of the concerned head of division (HOD). They may be required to conduct research, write reports, analyse evolving developments, or carry out any other task entrusted to them by the HOD. All the interns will get a monthly stipend of ₹10,000 per month. Candidates will have to report to the Delhi office during the course of their internship. The ministry will bear the travel cost for outstation candidates who will have to fly to Delhi from their home state. Eligibility criteria for the internship — 1. All the candidates should be an Indian citizen. 2. The maximum age limit for the candidates is 25 years as on December 31, of the year of the internship. 3. Candidates should have a minimum educational qualification of a graduate degree from a recognised university. 4. Candidates belonging to these states are only eligible for the opportunity — Term 1 — Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andaman &amp; Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Delhi. Term 2 — Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Puducherry. 5. 30%-50% seats are reserved for women candidates. Internship at Ministry of External Affairs: Checkout details, stipend and how to apply

<ul><li>MEA has launched a three-month internship programme starting from April till June 2022.</li><li>The Ministry will be hiring only 75 candidates under this programme in New Delhi.</li><li>The last date to apply for the internship programme is February 15.</li></ul>India’s <keyword id="6374106" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-external-affairs" source="Orion">Ministry of External Affairs</keyword> (MEA) has launched an internship programme as part of the <keyword id="10912165" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="azadi-ka-amrit-mahotsav" source="Orion">Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav</keyword> celebrations to commemorate 75 years of independence. The duration of the internship is three months starting from April till June 2022. The Ministry will be hiring only 75 candidates under this programme in New Delhi. The last date to apply for the internship programme is February 15. “The MEA Internship Policy 2022 aims to take foreign policy closer to the people; bring in more focus on MEA; provide value to the interns; ensure better gender inclusivity and increase diversity in terms of qualifications, domicile and socio-economic status amongst the cohort of interns engaged by the ministry,” said the ministry in its official advertisement. Selected candidates will be given a monthly stipend of ₹10,000 to defray basic costs. Air fare to and fro from the domicile state to Delhi will be provided by the ministry. Eligibility criteria — <ol><li>Candidates should hold a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognised university/institution at the time of applying. </li><li>The internship programme will also be open to students who are presently in the final year of their graduation, where an internship is a mandatory part of their final year curriculum. </li><li>Age of the candidates should not exceed 25 years as on 31 December of the year of internship. </li></ol>Selection procedure — The selection process will consist of two stages — preliminary screening and personal interview. A minimum of 30% of the 75 internships may be filled by women candidates. Weightage will be based on academic performance assessed by percentage of marks obtained in +2 and graduation exams. Candidates will have to apply online only state-wise merit lists will be prepared – separately for male and female candidates – by elimination based on academic performance in +2 and graduation exams. Candidates selected in the merit lists, which will be announced on February 18, will be called for a personal interview between February 22-24, which will be conducted via video conferencing by the judge panel. At the end of the internship, each intern shall submit a detailed report on the work carried out and, if required, make a presentation on it. Ministry of External Affairs is offering internships to graduates with a monthly stipend of ₹10,000

Vivo needs to follow the law of the land, says external affairs ministry

Any EU citizen can file a complaint with the ombudsman, who investigates maladministration in EU institutions. <a href="https://www.ombudsman.europa.eu/en/cases/recommendations.faces">The ombudsman's website</a> says that if the ombudsman presents an EU institution with an official recommendation, that organization must enact the recommendation within three months.<a href="https://www.ombudsman.europa.eu/en/cases/recommendation.faces/en/76079/html.bookmark">According to a statement from the EU ombudsman's office</a>, the EEAS argued that unpaid trainees benefitted from receiving a "significant stepping stone" in their professional development.However, O'Reilly did not agree that the reasoning was enough to merit the unpaid internships."In the Ombudsman's view, unpaid traineeships may lead to a discriminatory situation since persons from less privileged backgrounds are likely to lack the financial means to undertake a traineeship," <a href="https://www.ombudsman.europa.eu/en/cases/recommendation.faces/en/76079/html.bookmark">O'Reilly's statement</a> said. "They will thus miss out on this valuable opportunity to enhance their qualifications and skills. Moreover, the practice of having unpaid trainees may be counterproductive in identifying the best suited candidates."O'Reilly concluded by recommending that the EEAS begin paying all of its interns.<a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/08/12/half-of-all-eu-internships-are-unpaid-new-figures-show/">The Telegraph reported</a> that 4,000 out of a total of 8,000 interns working in the EU "bubble" were unpaid, as of 2016. Bryn Watkins, managing member of Brussels-based NGO <a href="https://www.bingo-brussels.eu/">Bingo</a>, said that the ombudsman's recommendation may change that."Our aim is to end all unpaid graduate internships in the whole EU affairs sector," Watkins told Business Insider via email. "The ombudsman ruling on the EEAS will set a strong precedent against unpaid internships in all EU Institutions, and we will be pushing hard on this. This is also good for the wider 'Eurobubble,' because the institutions have a norm-setting effect on the whole sector."Watkins said that unpaid internships within the EU "bubble" discriminate against those who cannot afford to work for free."That is bad for the legitimacy and decision-making of the whole European project, so we are also fighting for those missing interns: the young people who could never afford to come," Watkins said.Intern activist and director of "<a href="https://www.facebook.com/anunpaidact/">An Unpaid Act</a>" David Leo Hyde agrees that the ombudsman's ruling could be a blow against unpaid internships in the EU. It has threatened to even revoke it. 
 Mallya’s diplomatic passport, was suspended by the <keyword id="193522" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="External-Affairs-Ministry">External Affairs Ministry</keyword> on the recommendation of the ED. He has been in Britain for over a month and has refused to appear before the agency. 
 "On the advice of the Enforcement Directorate, the Passport Issuing Authority in the MEA has today suspend the validity of <keyword id="14678" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Vijay-Mallya">Vijay Mallya</keyword>'s diplomatic passport with immediate effect for a period of 4 weeks, under Section 10 A of the Passports Act, 1967. 
 
"<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vijay+Mallya&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Mallya</a> has been asked to respond within one week as to why his passport should not be impounded or revoked under section 10(3)(c) of the Passports Act, 1967. If he fails to respond within the stipulated time, it will be assumed that he has no response to offer and the MEA will go ahead with the revocation," MEA Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said.

However, India is reportedly not going to invite Imran Khan in the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi. Recently both PM Narendra Modi and Imran Khan had a telephonic conversation after the victory of BJP in India where they talked about creating trust and an environment free of terrorism were a must to foster peace and prosperity in the region. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said that the <a href="https://www.firstpost.com/india/kyrgyz-president-mauritius-pm-bimstec-leaders-invited-for-narendra-modis-swearing-in-ceremony-says-mea-6710821.html">government has also invited</a> Kyrgyzstan president Sooronbay Jeenbekov and Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth to the ceremony. In addition, Sri Lankan president Maihtr Maithripala Sirisena, Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli are reportedly going to attend the ceremony. Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid is also likely to attend the ceremony. However, Myanmar state counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi is yet to make a decision. The President of the Kyrgyz Republic, current Chair of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and the Prime Minister of Mauritius -- the Chief Guest at this year's Pravasi Bhartiya Divas, had also been invited, External Affairs Ministry spokesman Raveesh Kumar said here on Monday. The members of Bimstec (The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) are Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan, which are among the countries dependent on the Bay of Bengal. The invites were sent keeping in mind the government’s plan to focus on 'neighbourhood first' policy, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar.

PM Narendra Modi invites BIMSTEC leaders to swearing-in ceremony

<ul><li>UPSC is looking forward to filling up 861 Civil Service positions.</li><li>The last date to apply for the opportunity is February 22.</li><li>Candidates will have to appear for two rounds of written test and one personality test/interview.</li></ul>The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services has released a notification inviting applications to fill up 861 vacancies. The application process will remain open till 6 p.m. February 22. Candidates will have to appear for the preliminary test to be conducted by the UPSC on June 5. Those candidates who qualify can appear for the main examination later. Candidates clearing both the rounds will then be called for a personal interview/personality test. Indian citizens, aged between 21 and 32, who have graduated from an institution recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) can apply. Even refugees from Nepal, Bhutan, Tibetan refugees are eligible to apply for these positions. Every candidate is allowed to give six attempts. UPSC Civil Services 2022: Check out eligibility, last date and other details

<keyword id="6358992" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Police">Delhi Police</keyword> has detained <keyword id="232202" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mehmood-Akhtar">Mehmood Akhtar</keyword>, a Pakistani staffer working with Pakistan High Commission, for espionage. 
 As per the reports, Akhtar, 35, is Pakistan envoy <keyword id="135964" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Abdul-Basit">Abdul Basit</keyword>’s staffer and possessed highly classified army-related documents. The intelligence bureau had tailed him for weeks. 
 
The staffer, however, has been released due top diplomatic immunity. 
 
 Pakistani envoy <keyword id="349030" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Basit">Basit</keyword> has been summoned by the external affairs ministry, TV reports said. 
 
A report has been sent the report on the high commission staffer to the external affairs ministry. . Crime branch officials have also briefed the Union Home Minister and Delhi's Lieutenant Governor.

Pakistan High Commission’s staffer detained for espionage, let-off due to diplomatic immunity

<keyword id="3089284" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jawed-Ashraf">Jawed Ashraf</keyword>, joint secretary to the Prime Minister since 2012, is planning to step out of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=PMO">PMO</a>. Wait, he has not parted ways with the government. In fact, he is leaving this existing post to take an overseas position. 
 Ashraf, who has also worked with former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, will now be replaced by <keyword id="2212058" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vinay-Kwatra">Vinay Kwatra</keyword>, currently working as the joint secretary (America) in the <keyword id="6374106" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ministry-of-External-Affairs">Ministry of External Affairs</keyword>. Kwatra, who has served as Modi’s interpreter in 2014, took charge of the Americas division in the MEA from Vikram Doraiswami. 
 
Doraiswami moved last year to Uzbekistan as ambassador, but was moved again to South Korea just before PM's visit in May this year. 
 
Foreign secretary S. Jaishankar, has carried out a major overhaul of the MEA, putting in a whole new set of faces in South Block and in key missions overseas. However, there are some other important ambassadorial positions that will also be up for grabs in a few months in Bhutan, Myanmar and Singapore.
