Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani wants crypto in India to be treated as an asset class but not a currency

The wealth is there, you know, whatever data we have shows that you know, maybe two trillion to three trillion dollars of wealth is there in private hands in India. So some of that has to actually flow into this ecosystem,” Gopalakrishnan said. “You can directly invest, you can invest through funds you can invest fund of fund, in other various mechanisms that are available,” he added. The government may be hoping for too much too soon. “The changes in the physical space take more time than changes in the digital space,” Gopalakrishnan said, highlighting that immediate opportunities are in the tech sector⁠— from telecom giants like Jio, Vodafone, and Airtel to emerging startups. The space for more unicorns Gopalakrishnan believes that gives Indian startups have an edge over the bigger and older firms and that makes them attractive to both investors and the government. “In my discussions with the government offic ials, they said startups responded faster than established companies because they had less bureaucracy and less worries about you know, what impact it would have on the business etc,” he said, adding that India “will have a large number of unicorns,” and “significant investments coming into India to take advantage of the opportunity.” And some of this money should flow into research and development as well. "..you know less than 0.1% of private investment is going into R&amp;D in India,” he added. Waiting for foreign capital is a loss of opportunity Reliance Jio attracted six new investors in the last six weeks, and all of them were foreign. “Now the Indian venture and private equity capital has 95% to 96% traditionally been international capital… whereas in other countries it is more than fifty percent namely China and technically if you take Europe and the US it's all domestic capital anyway,” Sethi said. Gopalakrishnan couldn't agree more. “We need some of these companies to be owned by Indians, right so that you know, it's not just about ownership it's about the wealth creation effect of this right that's why I would encourage all Indian funds, family offices to look at a portion of their investable wealth to go to these class of assets, these startups,” he chimed in. Infosys co-founder explains how the next Google, Facebook or Amazon can be born out of India

Infosys is allegedly letting go of hundreds of employees, who are at the fag end of their training and failed the internal assessment tests. The new recruits will have to undergo comprehensive training before they are added into various teams for full-fledged work. Senior employees in the IT Company stated on condition of anonymity that though there is economic slowdown and recession, the companies are focusing more on quality and productivity. Therefore, average talent is not preferred under the circumstances. "The corona pandemic in the last two years has affected the education, quality of students and their skillsets. There is a clear lack regarding teaching and the honing of skills. Many graduates, who passed out in the last two years, are not in a position to prove themselves and there is extreme pressure on the trainees," they explain. Sources explained that the freshers are provided with two chances to clear their assessment. If they fail, they will not be onboarded. However, the freshers who have been sacked from Infosys maintained that members of the teams which did not get projects are being asked to go and those with projects are not touched. Tech industry insiders are of the opinion that the phase is going to last for a while and pressure on industry will be there till 2024. The freshers won't enjoy the halcyon days, when the job market was hot during the pandemic. "It is evident that the global economic crisis is real as we can see big companies such as <keyword id="6355629" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="google" source="Orion">Google</keyword> and Amazon laying off people. It is going to last for a while. So, I believe that the crisis will remain in the entire 2023 and even probably the first quarter of 2024. It will eventually subside and we all will come back to normalcy. However, it is going to take some time," stated Sumanth Prabhu, Co-Founder and CEO, Ulipsu. "My suggestion for people looking for jobs or the ones who are employed is that getting a job now is precious or they should hold onto the job that they currently have. It's a good thing that the employees are getting retained and valued. If they are valued, they should work hard to ensure that the value is reciprocated," he said. "Also, it is the right time for businesses to cut down costs and be frugal. The global economic crisis is something that teaches all companies that we should not hire unnecessarily and should not commit to costs that are unnecessary or irrelevant. Companies have to lay off during these kinds of crises. So, it is better to hire wisely than to hire illogically and fire people," Sumanth Prabhu explained. IT giant Wipro has laid off more than 400 fresher employees for poor performance in internal assessment tests in January. The company had issued termination letters to all the employees and stated that despite the adequate training, the candidates have failed to perform. The termination letter maintained that the employees are liable to pay Rs 75,000 of training cost which company has spent on them. But, the amount is being waived off. Commenting on the development, Wipro had clarified that, Wipro takes pride in holding itself to the highest standards. As per the standards the aim is set of all. From every entry level employee it is expected to have a certain level of proficiency in their designated area of work. After Wipro, Infosys showing exit doors to freshers in Bengaluru say sources

He also shared that it did not take more than 10 minutes to fire 20 staffers of higher positions who showed a lack of integrity. The insiders in Infosys stated that the step would help the company to find solutions for many challenges that are being faced presently. Infosys to now allow moonlighting with prior permission, say sources

<keyword id="221874" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="akshata" source="Orion">Akshata</keyword> <keyword id="1806167" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="murty" source="Orion">Murty</keyword>, Britain's incoming Prime Minister <keyword id="221875" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rishi-sunak" source="Orion">Rishi Sunak</keyword>'s wife whose tax status on income from outside the UK had triggered a controversy, earned Rs 126.61 crore (USD 15.3 million) in dividend income in 2022 from her shareholding in India's second-largest IT firm <keyword id="6354512" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="infosys" source="Orion">Infosys</keyword>. Murthy, daughter of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy, held 3.89 crore shares, or 0.93 per cent, of Infosys at the end of September, according to company filings with the stock exchanges. Her holding is worth Rs 5,956 crore (about USD 721 million) at Tuesday's trading price of Rs 1,527.40 on the BSE. Infosys paid Rs 16 per share final dividend for the 2021-22 fiscal on May 31, this year. For the current year, the firm this month announced an interim dividend of Rs 16.5, according to the company's stock exchange filings. The two dividends totalled Rs 32.5 per share or Rs 126.61 crore for Akshata. Infosys is among the best dividend-paying companies in India. In 2021, it paid a total of Rs 30 per share dividend, which would have given Akshata a total of Rs 119.5 crore in that calendar year. Sunak, 42, on Sunday won the race to lead the Conservative Party and is now set to become Britain's first prime minister of Indian origin and its youngest leader in modern times. While Sunak is a British national, his wife Akshata is an Indian citizen. Her non-domiciled status, which allows her to earn money abroad without paying taxes in Britain for a period of up to 15 years, has been a divisive issue in the UK. Non-domiciled status of Akshata became an issue of discussion in Britain when Sunak first entered the race to become the prime minister in April this year. At that time, her spokesperson had stated that as a citizen of India, she was unable to hold citizenship of another country and that "she has always and will continue to pay UK taxes on all her UK income." As the controversy snowballed, she at that time announced that she would pay UK tax on all of her worldwide earnings out of a "British sense of fairness".It is not known how much taxes she paid in the UK on the dividend income that accrued to her after April - Rs 16 per share final dividend for the 2021-22 fiscal year (April 2021 to March 2022) paid on May 31, 2022, and Rs 16.5 a share interim dividend for 2022-23 fiscal that is due to be paid on October 27. Born in her mother Sudha Murthy's hometown of Hubballi in northern Karnataka, Akshata did her schooling in Bengaluru, before moving to Claremont McKenna College in California, where she graduated with a dual major in economics and French. She did a fashion designing diploma from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, which followed a short work stint at Deloitte and <keyword id="45009" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="unilever" source="Orion">Unilever</keyword>. She thereafter went on to pursue her MBA at Stanford where she met Rishi Sunak. The two married in 2009. The couple, who own a vast real estate portfolio, has two children, Krishna and Anoushka. They live in a 7 million townhouse in Kensington. They also own a flat in Kensington, a mansion in Rishi's Yorkshire constituency and a penthouse in California. The son of a pharmacist mother and doctor father, Sunak was educated at one of England's most renowned schools, Winchester, and then Oxford. He spent three years at Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and later gained an MBA from Stanford in California, where he met his wife Akshata Murthy. According to Infosys filings, the promoters hold 13.11 per cent of the company. Of this, the Murty family owns 3.6 per cent (Narayana Murthy holds 0.40 per cent stake, his wife Sudha 0.82 per cent, son Rohan 1.45 per cent and daughter Akshata 0.93 per cent). Other promoters include co-founder S Gopalakrishnan, Nandan M Nilekani and S D Shibulal and their families. Rishi Sunak's wife Akshata Murty earned $15.3 mn dividend income from Infosys in 2022

Cryptocurrency lending company Celsius Network, that recently laid off 150 employees, has now filed for bankruptcy in the US amid extreme market conditions. The platform said that it initiated voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings to provide it with the opportunity to stabilise its business and consummate a comprehensive restructuring transaction that maximises value for all stakeholders. Celsius said late on Wednesday that it has $167 million in cash on hand, which will provide ample liquidity to support certain operations during the restructuring process. The platform, which last month paused all withdrawals, was last valued at $3.25 billion. "Without a pause, the acceleration of withdrawals would have allowed certain customers -- those who were first to act -- to be paid in full while leaving others behind to wait for Celsius to harvest value from illiquid or longer-term asset deployment activities before they receive a recovery," said the company. Alex Mashinsky, Co-Founder and CEO, Celsius, said that this is the right decision for its community and company. "I am confident that when we look back at the history of Celsius, we will see this as a defining moment, where acting with resolve and confidence served the community and strengthened the future of the company," he said. Meanwhile, the founders of another bankrupt cryptocurrency hedge fund <keyword id="14202326" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="three-arrows-capital" source="Orion">Three Arrows Capital</keyword> (3AC) have vanished and the officials charged with liquidating the company were looking for their whereabouts. The mega fund, founded by Credit Suisse traders <keyword id="14355016" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="zhu-su" source="Orion">Zhu Su</keyword> and <keyword id="835976" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kyle-davies" source="Orion">Kyle Davies</keyword>, once managed an estimated $10 billion in assets. The Singapore-based 3AC filed for bankruptcy in the US earlier this month to protect its assets from creditors. In an exclusive interview given to TIMES NOW, Murthy said that even though techies don’t need to be very anxious, jobs can still be protected if senior executives take salary cuts and invest in training employees. He also suggested a more humane approach while laying off employees, stating that employees’ happiness is vital for a stable corporation. About the ongoing talks about <keyword id="6467356" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="IT-employees">IT employees</keyword> union, he said that they aren’t needed as long as IT industry leaders are compassionate in their approach. "We have gone through these troughs in business several times, there is no need for us to become extremely anxious. It is possible to protect jobs of youngsters if seniors make minor adjustments, like senior people taking salary cuts based on disposable income. This is what we did after the dot com crisis. Industry leaders need to identify new areas of opportunity, Mount training programs and give them time to train. Give youngsters enough time to pick up new skills and technologies."When asked if the layoffs are a result of a poor business environment or changing technology, he said, "it is a combination of things. But there will be more and more job opportunities as long as we help youngsters re-skill themselves."

The same year, Pratiksha <keyword id="22629" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="trust">Trust</keyword> - the fund Kris set up with his wife - announced a grant of Rs 225 crore for a <keyword id="2038777" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Centre-for-Brain-Research">Centre for Brain Research</keyword>, so it could be set up inside the <keyword id="75850" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Indian-Institute-of-Science">Indian Institute of Science</keyword> campus in <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword> without any delay. 
 He also initiated a <keyword id="63068" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="partnership">partnership</keyword> with the Centre for <keyword id="3720863" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="brain-research-and-carnegie-melon-university">Brain Research and Carnegie Melon University</keyword>. 
Going strong in what he aims to achieve, Kris says he wants to “create a world-class institution in India for Brain Research” by first facilitating research and then commercializing it “to create products that have the potential to create real difference”. 
 
He signs off by saying - “There are two ways achieve what I have set out for; either you can collaborate with the best minds in the world in this field or you can make sure that the Indian capabilities get the best international exposure which they can implement back home.”
