Now, Infosys is making headlines again but this time, for the right reasons. The company has reportedly sent a confirmation regarding joining date to over 1,000 engineering graduates. Infosys sent emails to these graduates on Monday, confirming that they would start their employment on October 7, 2024. <h2>Infosys sends joining date confirmation to freshers</h2>Thousands of students from the April 2022 batch were left in limbo after participating in two rounds of pre-training in July and August. These students received an offer letter from Infosys two years back, but never got a confirmation about their joining date. Now, as per a report in ET, Infosys has finally given them a date of joining. The report reveals that students got an email from the company's recruiters that says, “Your scheduled date of joining the employment of the Company will be October 07,2024. These young engineers, who have been waiting for nearly two years, now have a confirmed joining date of October 7, 2024. This is a huge win for NITES and all the students who stood strong in the face of uncertainty and delay,” he said and added that they won't hesitate to protest in front of the company's offices if there is a breach in joining date. "We remain vigilant... if Infosys fails to honor this commitment and breaches the joining date, we will not hesitate to organize a protest right in front of the Infosys office," he said. The delay in onboarding has affected around 2,000 engineering graduates from the 2022 batch, who received offer letters for system engineer and digital system engineer roles, with annual packages ranging from Rs 3.2-3.7 lakh. Parekh had confirmed that while some joining dates had been adjusted, every candidate who received an offer would still become a part of Infosys. In a statement to PTI, he was quoted saying, "Every offer that we have given, that offer will be honored, and those individuals will join Infosys. We have adjusted some dates, but beyond that, there is no change in our approach." The union alleges that Infosys has delayed the <keyword id="22570539" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="onboarding-process" source="keywords">onboarding process</keyword> for around 2,000 <keyword id="22859483" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fresh-engineering-graduates" source="keywords">fresh engineering graduates</keyword> for over two years, leaving them in a state of uncertainty and distress. <h2>Infosys delayed freshers' onboarding for more than two years</h2>According to NITES, these graduates were selected for roles such as system engineer and digital specialist engineer as early as April 2022. Despite receiving offer letters, the onboarding process has been repeatedly postponed. The affected graduates were required to participate in unpaid pre-training programs and undergo additional, unexpected assessments, further complicating their entry into the workforce. NITES claims that despite fulfilling all the prerequisites set by Infosys, these young professionals have been kept in limbo, leading to significant frustration and anxiety. The union views this situation as a serious breach of trust by Infosys, which has long been regarded as one of the pillars of India’s IT industry. Harpreet Singh Saluja, President of NITES, expressed deep concern over the situation, emphasizing the broader implications for the Indian IT sector. “We believe that this is not just a breach of trust by one of India’s largest IT companies, but also a significant issue that impacts the future of our country’s <keyword id="22360158" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IT-workforce" source="keywords">IT workforce</keyword> and economy. We are calling on the government to take immediate and strict action against Infosys to ensure that such exploitative practices are halted and that the rights of these young professionals are protected,” Saluja said, according to a report by The Economic Times. The complaint filed by NITES highlights that even after long delays, the graduates were asked to participate in an unpaid virtual pre-training program from July 1 to July 24, 2024. They were promised final joining dates of either August 19 or September 2, 2024. However, despite completing the training, they were informed that they would need to retake the exam offline, once again without pay. This has only added to their frustration and uncertainty about their future with the company. <h2>Infosys’ Power Programme</h2>In a contrasting development, Infosys is also making headlines for its recent campus placement drive, where it has introduced a new 'power programme.' According to a report by The Times of India, the company is offering pay packages of up to Rs 9 lakh per annum to select colleges, a significant increase from its standard entry-level packages, which typically range from Rs 3-3.5 lakh. This move is seen as part of Infosys’ strategy to attract highly specialized talent in areas such as coding, software development, cloud computing, AI/ML, and cybersecurity. Infosys plans to hire between 15,000 and 20,000 graduates in FY25. During its earnings call last month, Infosys announced plans to resume campus placements and off-campus fresher hiring in the current fiscal year. The top four IT firms in India are expected to collectively add about 82,000 freshers in FY25. Reports are coming in from Infosys, Pune, stating that a woman was allegedly raped at the company’s campus on Sunday. Both the victim and the convicts worked at the canteen in the office campus. 
 
As per police sources, two men have been arrested for the crime and further proceedings have begun. Rest details are yet to come.

As per the updates, the 25-year-old victim was a cashier at the campus canteen, and the convict was a part of the housekeeping staff. The victim has filed a complaint with the ​Hinjewadi police, and has stated that while Paritosh Bagh (21) raped her, Prakash Mahadik (30), the other convict filmed it on his cell phone, paying no heed to her cries. The convicts then threatened of making the video public if she went to the police. 
 
In an official statement issued by Infosys, the officials have said that they have a zero-tolerance policy against sexual harassment, and strict actions will be taken against the convicts. However, what remains to be answered from the company's end is the delay in filing a complaint as soon as the news spread in the campus. She was instead asked to go home and return the next day to 'discuss' things. 
 
The convicts have been sent to police custody for a week. Even though they have deleted the objectionable video from the phone, the phone has been handed over to the forensic team.

Canteen worker raped in Infosys, Pune

With the month of appraisals ahead, the recent crisis in Infosys isn’t really going down well with the employees. India's second-largest software services exporter has already come under criticism after CEO Vishal Sikka got a hike of 55%. The co founder and IT veteran of the country Narayana Murthy as well as other promoters aren’t content with the present management and have called for an overhaul of the board. 
 
Sikka’s compensation hike that rose to$11 million a year from $7.08 million has made the CEO compensation to median employee remuneration ratio to 935.38 times. 
 
"People are happy with Vishal Sikka but not with his salary,” a Pune-based employee told The Economic Times. 
"Infosys hasn't raised visa requests for the system engineers and senior system engineers. There is a general sense that promotions will be halted or delayed by using these governance issues and results as an excuse,” ET learnt from another employee. 
 
Murthy, in an interview to ET, questioned the actions of Infosys Chairman R Seshasayee and independent director Jeffrey Lehman. 
 
On Thursday, Sikka wrote to employees asking them not to be distracted by speculation about the company's commitment to governance, integrity and values, and highlighted the improvements the company has made in his tenure. Also the recent murder case at Infy’s Pune campus has dented the reputation of the IT exporter to some level.

Promotions and Increments may take a hit

While we are hurtling towards urbanization, heaps of waste are growing even faster, causing a serious concern for the society. Poorly managed waste has an enormous impact on health, <keyword id="6356826" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="environment">environment</keyword>, and the <keyword id="34412" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="economy">economy</keyword> at large. It is a large source of methane, significantly increasing greenhouse gas emissions in the environment. Also, it can lead to contamination of water and air, resulting into detrimental impacts on human health. According to the <keyword id="6354424" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="World-Bank">World Bank</keyword>, world cities generate about 1.3 billion tonnes of solid waste annually and this is expected to increase to 2.2 billion tonnes by 2025. Food waste, specifically, has profound social and environmental implications, considering that about 795 million people in the world do not have enough to eat. In addition, rotten food generates methane which adds up to the GHG emissions in the environment. Of the one-third food produced globally for consumption every year, about 1.3 billion tonnes gets lost or wasted. As large corporates generate huge amounts of food waste, it is essential for them to ensure responsible <keyword id="3301591" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="food-waste-management">food waste management</keyword>. It is critical to manage food waste with scientific methods to minimize waste going to landfills and mitigate the related impacts on the environment and society. Some concerns exist at different levels to manage food waste effectively, including collection, storage, and treatment processes. As bins are critical for collecting segregated food waste, it’s essential to map the bin size according to the generation patterns, the location of the bin to encourage usage, and clearance of the bin on a scheduled basis. Additionally, storage of food waste is also critical for effective food waste management. As food waste is high on organic hydrocarbons &amp; moisture content, it forms best environment for microbial growth. Hence, a dedicated area where temperature below 5°C should be maintained to make best use of these properties and also eliminate the foul odor issue. The third major concern is the treatment. While there are enough options available, mapping the end use, space availability and labor requirement are essential for opting for the best treatment system. (Source: UNEP, World Food Organization) While there is enough awareness with respect to food security and its potential landfill gas generation, only very few companies have invested in treating their food waste on-site. However, there has been a wave to derive internal policies that mandates the change in consumption and food wastage. A prominent step has been to serve measured portion of food to employees by relating it to health benefits, influencing conscious consumption and reducing wastage. Segregation and composting are also holding an important position in many companies’ food waste management agendas. <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> is persistent in its efforts to ensure the reuse, recycling, and responsible disposal of waste to minimize the amount of waste going to landfills. At Infosys, there have been conscious measures that have shaped the handling and treatment of food waste. In 2012, at corporate level, Infosys adopted 100% segregation and on- site food waste treatment policy. Today, Infosys has standardized the color, size and visual communication materials for food waste collection at food courts resulting in 100% segregation. 
	 
	 
	The restriction of food serving limited to food courts has reduced the mixed waste fraction and super- efficient collection of food waste. Every campus has a dedicated food waste storage room wherein appropriate cooling temperature is maintained at 5degreeC. We have piloted and installed various technology for food waste treatment. We have installed technologies such as biogas plants and organic waste converters to treat our food waste on-site. Biogas plants installed at our Mysore, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Bhubaneshwar, Pune and Trivandrum campuses 
	convert our food waste into biogas, which is in turn used in the food court kitchens. 
	 
	 
	 
	 
	 
	We also have organic waste converters at our campuses in Trivandrum, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, and Bangalore, to convert food waste into rich manure that is further used in our campuses for landscaping. We have also employed vermicomposting in Mangalore and Pune to recycle small quantities of food waste into compost. 
	 
	 
	 
	Our total installed biogas capacity is 9.25 Tonnes per day (TPD) having a potential of generating about 500 Kgs of LPG equivalent daily, for further use. Another 3.5 TPD of composting plants generating 1 TPD of manure every day is in place. These initiatives are enabling us to treat 100% of our food waste in-house. 
	 
	In addition to this, employee engagement and awareness programs are conducted across campuses through eco clubs to sensitize employees on segregation and responsible disposal and treatment of waste. All common areas and pantries have visually appealing posters on food waste management to educate employees. Infosys is leading from the front in this area ad has set new benchmarks in the industry by piloting new technologies and ideas to ensure reduce, recycle and reuse of waste effectively. Infosys’ efforts in waste management are helping divert considerable amount of waste from landfills, leading to reduced cost of transportation, carbon emission mitigation, and also minimized environmental impacts like land degradation, air pollution, and groundwater contamination.

Infosys sets an example again and this time it is food waste management

Mumbai metropolitan region reported two new cases of Coronavirus on Thursday (March 19), taking the total number of such cases in Mumbai to 8. One woman had returned from the UK, and another one had a travel history to Dubai. India saw a steep rise in the number of infected cases after 28 new cases were reported from 10 states on Wednesday (March 18), taking the total number of infected people to 184. CM <keyword id="53973" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uddhav-Thackeray">Uddhav Thackeray</keyword> said that the number of suburban trains and buses would be reduced, standees won't be permitted and those seating would be kept at a safe distance as precautionary measures. Mumbai and Pune — the two worst-hit cities with maximum Coronavirus cases — has visibly reduced commuters in trains and buses. However, the number of private vehicles on roads and highways hasn't shown a noticeable decline so far. All beaches in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are near-deserted. Prominent hill stations in the Western Ghats, resorts, wildlife sanctuaries, tourist destinations also run almost empty. All major places of worship like temples, churches, mosques-mausoleums and gurdwaras have shut their doors for devotees. A few religious organisations and sects are offering online prayers, namaz etc. to keep crowds and the virus away. The state already elapsed into the partial shutdown with all schools, colleges, malls, theatres, cinemas, gyms and swimming pools closed till March 31. Besides the suburban trains, the decision could also include the <keyword id="603319" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-Metro-rail">Mumbai Metro Rail</keyword>, Monorail and other public modes of transport which have a potential to virtually paralyse the country's commercial capital. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray announced a special ₹45 crore fund to tackle the pandemic to be distributed among the Divisional Commissioners at Konkan and Pune, while ₹5 crore each will be disbursed to Nagpur, Amravati, Aurangabad and Nashik. The money would be utilised to provide various facilities at the quarantine centres including food, television sets, indoor games like carroms, etc. The district authorities have been authorised to make emergency purchases of ventilators or required medical equipment. Thackeray appealed that those who have been advised home quarantine must voluntarily refrain from stepping out in public to prevent any risk to others. Mumbai's local trains shut partly after Coronavirus cases rise to 8

Many students across universities like Jamia Milia and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) however have been protesting against the law. Indian celebrities who have been keeping silent as well as speaking out against the law, are being targeted by trolls alike. The latest celebrity who went through the ordeal is Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone who visited Aishe Ghosh, the president of JNU students union. A set of active trolls started urging people to boycott her movie which released soon. Nagpur, Saswad, Raigad- Maharashtra 
 
These three places in Maharashtra are well-connected with rest of the Maharashtra and are becoming popular among investors. Let’s start with Nagpur. 
 
Nagpur: It is the third largest city of Maharashtra and as per a recent survey, conducted by ABP News-Ipsos, Nagpur has been identified as best city in India. 
 
Nagpur is one of the emerging metropolises and has registered significant growth, making it an attractive destination for real estate developers. There are several development projects underway here. The multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) is the biggest development project, which aims to convert airport into a cargo hub with integrated road and railway connectivity. 
TCS, one of the India’s largest IT company, is building campus in the city and Infosys has also started construction of its Nagpur campus. The city has several prestigious educational institutes as well. 
 
Nagpur will soon have its own metro. Recently, the Maharashtra government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cisco for making Nagpur a smart and safe city. 
 
Also, Nagpur is a few hours away from Mumbai and Pune. Besides the economic and infrastructural developments, the city also has various public attractions. Sitabuldi Fort and Seminary Hill are few of the attractive tourist locations in Nagpur. 
 
Saswad: Saswad is just 31 km away from Pune railway station and is well connected via city buses too. 
 
The area is in proximity to Jejuri MIDC and Lonand MIDC, amongst others. Saswad also has a number of educational institutes such as Saint Joseph English Medium School, Waghire High School and Waghire College. 
 
Saswad is an ideal location for tourists and is a weekend getaway. The area has many attractive tourist destinations like Jejuri, Malhargad Fort and Purandar Fort amongst others. The place is a perfect match for trekking and exploring. The area has a rich history and cultural heritage. 
 
The location will be viable for land or second home investment. The city is still developing and owing to its proximity to Pune, it has the potential for growth. You can enter with low investment and end up getting profits. The prime benefit in investing in this area is in close proximity to industrial areas, metropolitan city and tourist spots. The infrastructural development in and around the area makes it ideal for investment especially in land. 
 
Raigad: Raigad, a district in Maharashtra, is 84 km away from Mumbai and 110 km from Pune. Panvel, Alibag, Mangaon, Roha, Pen, Khopoli, Kharghar, Taloja, Khalapur, Uran, Patalganga, Rasayani, Nagothana, Poladpur, Alibag, Karjat and Mahad fall under this district. 
 
Raigad is connected to Mumbai through Sion-Panvel Expressway and is accessible via Mumbai-Pune expressway, NH-7 and NH-17. The Maharashtra government is working on a proposal to develop a private smart city at Pen in Raigad district. 
 
Raigad is close to places like Lonavala and Khandala and the presence of Adlabs Imagica, Ballaleshwar Ashtavinayaka temple in the vicinity makes it an ideal location for a getaway. 
 
The area has institutes like Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, which is the only technical university in Maharashtra. The location has tremendous growth potential making it a promising investment destination. 
 
Trichy, Tamil Nadu 
 
Tiruchirappalli, also known as Trichy, is on the smart city list. Located 322 km south of Chennai and 379 km north of Kanyakumari, it is the fourth largest urban agglomeration in the state. 
 
The city was ranked second cleanest city, according to recent Swachh Bharat Abhiyan survey. 
 
Trichy is a major engineering equipment manufacturing and fabrication hub. Industrial units such as Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Golden Rock Railway Workshop and Ordnance Factory Tiruchirappalli (OFT) have factories here. This has lead to significant rise in employment opportunities. 
 
The city is well connected with government owned buses and auto-rickshaws. Trichy is located in close proximity to two prominent National Highways, NH 45 and NH-67. The Railway Heritage centre was inaugurated in 2014 and International airport is only five km away from the main city. The city has various reputed educational institutes like Indian Institute of Management, National Institute of Technology amongst others. Buying land or second home in the city or at the outskirts will be beneficial because of the infrastructural growth in and around the city. 
 
All in all, adding these destinations in your investment portfolio can be a wise decision. Apart from selecting the right location, it is equally important to choose a well reputed developer. It would be ideal to select a developer who has lot of projects in the outskirts and considerable knowledge to manage such investments.
