New Delhi [India], November 13 (ANI): <keyword id="178886" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-manufacturing" source="Orion">Indian manufacturing</keyword> has accelerated through the second quarter of 2023-24 and is likely to continue for the subsequent quarters of the financial year 2023-24, notwithstanding the slowdown in developed nations, industry body <keyword id="19481819" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ficcis-latest-quarterly" source="Orion">FICCI's latest quarterly</keyword> survey revealed. The industry body's latest quarterly survey assessed the performance and sentiments of manufacturers for the July-September 2023-24 quarter for ten major sectors -- automotive and auto components, capital goods and construction equipment, cement, chemicals fertilizers and pharmaceuticals, electronics and white goods, machine tools, metal and metal products, textiles, apparels and technical textiles, paper, and miscellaneous. It sought responses from over 380 manufacturing units from both the large and SME segments with a combined annual turnover of over Rs 4.88 lakh crores. The existing average capacity utilization in the Indian manufacturing sector is around 74 per cent, slightly higher than the 73 per cent recorded during the previous quarters. The future <keyword id="628648" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="investment-outlook" source="Orion">investment outlook</keyword> has also improved as compared to the previous quarter as over 57 per cent of respondents reported plans for investments and expansions in the coming six months. This is also a slight improvement over the previous survey. In terms of major constraints, demand is a limiting factor to realise the true potential of the manufacturing sector in India, with over 40 per cent of respondents highlighting this as a significant constraint. "Whether it is domestic demand or exports, this remains a major limiting factor. Some other constraints, though not major ones are high raw material prices, increased cost of finance, logistics, and other supply chain disruptions are some of the major constraints which are affecting expansion plans of the respondents," finds the FICCI survey. The table below gives the average capacity utilization for various sub-sectors of manufacturing: On the export front, performance seems to be better than in previous quarters as over 48 per cent of the respondents reported higher exports in July-September 2023-24 as compared to 33 per cent in Q1 2023-24. "However, further improvement in export demand is required in the light of the country's growth aspiration," FICCI said. Further, the hiring outlook, according to the survey, looks stable with around 38 per cent of the respondents looking at hiring additional workforce in the next three months. "Most sectors have sufficient labour force engaged in their operations and are not facing a shortage of labour at factories. While 82 per cent of our respondents mentioned that they do not have any issues with workforce availability, the remaining 18 per cent feel that there is still a lack of skilled workforce available in their sector," FICCI noted. Indian manufacturing sector growth expected to continue: FICCI survey

The Indian pharmaceuticals industry is expected to log in a revenue growth of 8-10 per cent in current fiscal aided by a steady domestic growth and increased exports to regulated markets, even as semi-regulated markets face headwinds, according to a report. A study of 186 drug makers, which accounted for about half of the Rs 3.7 lakh crore annual revenue of the sector last fiscal, indicates as much, <keyword id="6359483" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="crisil" source="Orion">Crisil</keyword> said on Monday. "Similar to last fiscal, domestic growth in fiscal 2024, will be led by 5-6 per cent increase in realisations, supported partly by high price hikes allowed by the <keyword id="390804" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="national-pharmaceutical-pricing-authority" source="Orion">National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority</keyword> (NPPA) for drugs under price regulation," Crisil Research Director <keyword id="13891160" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="aniket-dani" source="Orion">Aniket Dani</keyword> said. In addition, sale of existing drugs and new launches will drive 3-4 per cent volume growth, he added. Operating profitability is also seen improving 50-100 basis points (bps) to 21 per cent this fiscal, supported by moderation in input and logistics costs, and abating pricing pressure in the US generics market, it said. This follows two consecutive years of margin contraction due to high pricing pressure in the US and a sharp rise in input costs caused by supply chain disruption during the Covid pandemic, and thereafter, Crisil noted. Credit profiles will remain stable owing to low-leverage balance sheets and moderate capex plans, it stated. In the ongoing fiscal, domestic sales are expected to witness 8-10 per cent growth with the chronic segment expected to be the key contributor to revenues, because of the steady increase in lifestyle-related diseases and continued emphasis on health awareness, post the pandemic, Crisil said. Formulation exports are seen up 7-9 per cent in rupee terms this fiscal, more driven by volumes, from new product launches, and abating price pressure in the US generics markets, it said. On the other hand, increase in claw-back taxes in select <keyword id="28249" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="europe" source="Orion">Europe</keyword>an markets could lead to lower growth in exports to Europe this fiscal, it added. "Growth in exports to Asia will improve this fiscal, after clocking a modest growth last fiscal, while exports to Africa will continue to remain sluggish on account of low forex reserves (impacting the purchasing power) and high currency volatility," Crisil said. Lower input prices and normalisation of supply chains should cull inventories to pre-pandemic levels, resulting in smaller incremental working capital debt this fiscal, it added. Indian pharma industry to log in 8-10% revenue growth this fiscal: Crisil

<ul><li>India’s investments into <keyword id="3347616" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fixed-assets" source="Orion">fixed assets</keyword> has hit a decadal high in the fourth quarter of FY23. </li><li>In the last quarter of FY23, government capex was up ove 20% compared to the same period a year before. Private entities too will follow suit, says Nirmal Bang. </li><li>Improving affordability and rising loan tenures could possibly sustain a multi-year residential real estate cycle. </li></ul>India’s investments into fixed assets hit a decadal high in the fourth quarter of FY23. Measured in terms of Gross Fixed Capital Formation (GFCF) — which is investments of producers in fixed assets — it’s now at a high of 35.3% of India’s gross domestic product (GDP), as per a research report by Nirmal Bang. The trigger to this high is the Indian government raising its spending. In the last quarter of FY23, its capex was up by 22.9% YoY. Going ahead, the research firm believes that private entities too will go in for capacity expansion —- as capacity utilization of industries is now hovering between 74-75% in the last one year on an average. “Private capex announcements in FY23 more than doubled from pre-pandemic levels and are running ahead of the central and state governments,” said a Nirmal Bang report named India Capex Meter. Overall, new capex crossed the pre-pandemic peak and stood at around ₹12 lakh crore tn in 4QFY23, according to data from CMIE. Multi-year residential real estate cycle Real mortgage rates have risen over the past year, but a structural downtrend persists. The report finds that the Indian household capex has held on, aiding growth in the housing sector. While it did flatten out recently due to rising interest rates, growth in housing credit could possibly sustain marginally above system credit growth, Nirmal Bang believes. “This, along with improving affordability and rising loan tenures could possibly sustain a multi- year residential real estate cycle,” it adds. For corporates, however, real interest rates have recently turned slightly adverse, rising above their long-term trend. This however is unlikely to be a major deterrent in the near term since the initial leg of private capex recovery is unlikely to be bank funded. Capital goods sector Most of the capex indicators have remained in positive territory over the past year, the most significant being the capital goods sector – that builds industries. “While the central government’s persistent capex focus provided the initial thrust, indicators such as capital goods production and capital goods imports too have sustained in the positive territory over the past year,” the report said. Yet another indicator, that’s – the profitability of the capital goods sector has also improved. “Operating profitability of BSE Capital Goods companies has sustained in the positive territory despite persistent pressure on margins. Over the past two quarters, operating profitability of the BSE Capital Goods companies has grown by over 15% YoY,” said Nirmal Bang. There’s more steam left? State and central governments have been steadily spending on building road projects. The road construction has been robust, but the nature of investment into the sector seems to be changing. While state and central governments seem to be slowing down, the <keyword id="53482" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="private-sector" source="Orion">private sector</keyword> is more than making up for it, with project announcements. Bank credit to the sector is also on-point. “Bank credit to the infrastructure sector has seen some sluggishness recently, but bank credit to the roads sector, which is the key beneficiary of government capex, seems to be holding up,” the report said. Manufacturing back to pre-Covid levels Going by the investment proposals, there seems to be a broad-based capex recovery, the research report says. In 4QFY23, investments in the manufacturing sector were about 48% above the pre-Covid level. “Sectors that saw recovery were chemicals, metals, machinery and miscellaneous manufacturing. Investments in food &amp; agro-based products remained below the pre-pandemic level,” said Nirmal Bang. The top sector in terms of investment proposals by value is metals. It is followed by sectors such as sugar, transportation, textiles, drugs &amp; pharmaceuticals, chemicals and fermentation-based pharmaceuticals. Even sectors such as leather are seeing some resurgence, aided by China +1 strategies. The share of sectors like electrical equipment is seen moderating as some of the early Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes get implemented. On the other hand, proposals from sectors like food processing and textiles are seen rising.

With Poonawalla and Dilip Shanghvi of Sun Pharmaceutical, the top 10 richest Indians list has two entrants from the healthcare sector. Ranking at 46 globally, Poonawalla of the unlisted empire, is the only billionaire in the top 10 richest Indians whose wealth went up by 4% to $27 billion. Shanghvi, on the other hand, lost 6% wealth in the last one year to end at $17 billion, and is ranked 98 globally. After healthcare, the sectors that created the most Indian dollar billionaires are consumer goods and chemicals, said the Hurun report, adding that financial services, healthcare and retail sectors minted the most global billionaires. “With 13 billionaires from the automobile and auto components sector, India has the second-largest concentration of automobile billionaires after China, which has 39 billionaires. Healthcare, consumer goods minted the most Indian dollar billionaires

Despite unfavourable economic conditions in major markets such as the European Union (EU), the US, and West Asian nations, Indian <keyword id="21353395" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="textile-exports" source="keywords">textile exports</keyword> grew by 9.59 per cent compared to the previous year in May 2024, the Confederation of <keyword id="22064995" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-textile" source="keywords">Indian Textile</keyword> Industry (CITI) said in a report. The CITI in its report highlighted that the cumulative exports of textiles and apparel during May 2024 registered a growth of 9.70 per cent over May last year. The country's overall exports for May 2024 surged to USD 68.29 billion. This was a substantial year-on-year increase of 10.2 per cent, according to data released by the Commerce Ministry on June 14. The analysis noted that during Apr -May' 24, Indian textile exports registered a growth of 6.04 per cent over the previous year, while apparel exports registered a growth of 4.46 per cent during the same time period. The cumulative exports of textiles and apparel during April-May 2024 saw a surge of 5.34 per cent as compared to the same period last year. The recently released export data revealed that sectors such as electronic goods, drugs and pharmaceuticals, organic and inorganic chemicals, engineering goods, petroleum products, plastics &amp; linoleum, cotton yarn/fabs made-ups ( textiles manufactured), handloom products, etc., man-made yarn/fabs./made-ups, handloom products etc. performed well in the exports from the country. Other merchandise products, such as meat, dairy and poultry products, mica, coal and other ores, minerals including processed minerals, RMG of all textiles, tea, coffee, rice, tobacco, carpet and handicrafts, oil seeds; and fruits and vegetables, did well too. On Friday, AshwKumar, President of the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), highlighted that a positive trajectory was seen in May 2024, driven by robust order bookings. Among the top ten export markets for India were the US, UAE, Netherlands, UK, China, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Germany and France. Considerably, in these markets, the exports registered a double-digit growth rate. Indian textile exports surge by 9.59% in May despite global economic challenges

Despite geopolitical tensions in <keyword id="19897269" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="europe" source="keywords">Europe</keyword> and the <keyword id="19904316" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="middle-east" source="keywords">Middle East</keyword>, <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="keywords">India</keyword>'s <keyword id="20631272" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="merchandise-exports" source="keywords">merchandise exports</keyword> grew by 5.8% to $109.96 billion compared to $103.9 billion in the same period last year, according to a CRISIL report. The report states that the deceleration in the growth momentum of exports in June compared to May was largely due to an 18.2% contraction in oil exports. The growth momentum slowed down in June, with merchandise exports increasing by only 2.6% year-on-year, down from 9.1% in May. Non-oil exports continued to maintain steady growth, rising by 7.7% in June, almost in line with the 7.8% growth recorded in May. Services exports exhibited a strong performance in June, contributing positively to the overall trade scenario. The positive aspect is that merchandise imports grew at a slower pace of 5% year-on-year in June, down from 7.7% in May. However, core imports, excluding oil and gold, surged by 7.1%, increasing from the 0.8% growth in the previous month. This spike in core imports was partially driven by a low base effect from the previous year. Despite the positive growth in exports, the <keyword id="20201391" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="trade-deficit" source="keywords">trade deficit</keyword> widened to $21 billion in June from $19.2 billion in the same month last year. For the first quarter, cumulative imports rose by 7.7% to $172.4 billion from $160 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of $62.44 billion, up from $56.1 billion. This widening deficit was mainly due to a higher oil trade deficit, while the non-oil trade deficit narrowed. Services exports were a bright spot, increasing by 10.2% year-on-year to $29.76 billion in May. On the other hand, service import growth moderated to 5.4%, down from 19.1% in the previous month. Consequently, the services trade surplus expanded to $13.02 billion, up from $11.1 billion in May last year. Oil exports fell by 18.3% year-on-year and 18.5% month-on-month in June, despite stable international prices. This suggests a reduction in export volumes, with exports falling to $5.5 billion from $6.8 billion in June last year and the previous month. Oil imports increased by 19.6% in June compared to 28% in May, driven by domestic demand and local refineries operating above capacity. Sectors such as drugs and pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, organic and inorganic chemicals, and ready-made garments showed positive growth. However, pharmaceuticals (9.9% vs. 10.5%) and ready-made garments (3.7% vs. 9.8%) saw slower growth compared to May. Gems and jewellery exports continued to decline, marking the seventh consecutive month of negative growth at -1.4% year-on-year. Growth in carpets, handloom products, man-made products, plastics, and linoleum was positive but slower than the previous month. Handmade carpets (-16.6% vs. 20.6%), jute manufacturing (-11.1% vs. -5.2%), and leather products (-2.2% vs -2.1%) recorded contractions. Cashew exports have been declining since 2018, with only sporadic months of positive growth. In June, cashew exports fell by 7.3%, an improvement from the 25.8% decline in May. Coffee (70% vs. 64.2%), fruits and vegetables (7% vs. 20.8%), rice (1% vs. 2.8%), spices (9.8%vs. 20.3%), tea (3.2% vs. 19.6%), and tobacco (37.7% vs. 58.4%) saw slower growth compared to May. Marine products (-7.7% vs. -3.9%) and meat, dairy, and poultry products (-13.9% vs. 22.9%) also experienced a decline. Increases were noted in electronic goods (15.9% vs. 6.7%), fruits and vegetables (22.6% vs. 3%), non-ferrous metals (47.6% vs. 1.1%), project goods (31.4% vs. -44.3%), textiles and yarn fabric made-up articles (23.8% vs. -1.1%), and wood products (16.2% vs. -7.2%). The fiscal year has started positively with steady merchandise export growth in the first quarter. Encouragingly, multilateral organisations have forecasted better year-on-year trade growth. The Indian government's focus on foreign trade agreements (FTAs) is expected to further boost trade. However, the persistent growth in imports surpassing exports is a concern, widening the trade deficit. The recent US tariff hikes on Chinese imports could lead to potential dumping by China in the Asian market, including India, which requires close monitoring. Despite these challenges, the expected moderation in domestic growth may help contain import growth and the trade deficit. The service trade surplus and robust remittance flows are positive indicators that the current account will remain stable.

The sources said the exact "one-to-one causal relation of death" has neither been provided by the <keyword id="10118578" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="United-Nations-Health-Agency" source="Orion">United Nations Health Agency</keyword> nor the details of labels and products been shared by it with the <keyword id="170943" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Central-Drugs-Standard-Control-Organisation" source="Orion">Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation</keyword> (CDSCO), enabling it to confirm the identity or source of the manufacturing of the products. "Based on available information, the CDSCO has already taken up an urgent investigation into the matter with regulatory authorities in Haryana. "While all required steps will be taken, as a robust regulatory authority, the WHO has been requested to share with CDSCO at the earliest the report on the establishment of a causal relation to the deaths with the medical products in question, photographs of labels/products etc," the sources said. According to the sources, the WHO had on September 29 informed the Drugs Controller General of India that it was providing technical assistance and advice to The Gambia. It had highlighted that a significant contributing factor to the deaths was suspected to be the use of medicines which may have been contaminated with Diethylene Glycol/Ethylene Glycol, and said its presence had been confirmed in some of the samples it tested. The CDSCO said it responded to the WHO within an hour-and-a-half after receiving intimation, by taking up the matter with the state regulatory authority. A detailed investigation was launched to ascertain the facts and details into the matter in collaboration with Haryana State Drugs Controller, the source explained. From the preliminary inquiry, it has been made out that Maiden Pharmaceutical Limited is the manufacturer licensed by the state drug controller for the products under reference, and holds manufacturing permission for these products. "The company has manufactured and exported these products only to The Gambia so far," the source said. It is a practice that the importing country tests the products for quality before sanctioning their usage there. As per the tentative results received by WHO out of the 23 samples tested, four samples have been found to contain Diethylene Glycol/ Ethylene Glycol as indicated. It has also been informed by WHO that the certificate of analysis will be made available to it in near future and WHO will share it with India.
