It is no secret that women often outlive men. The global average life expectancy in 2021 was about 68.4 years for men. In contrast, this stood at 73.8 years for women. Per IRIS 4,0, 44% of Indians consider the right age to start planning for retirement to be before 35 years, a jump from 38% in IRIS 3.0. An overwhelming 93% of respondents aged above 50 regret delaying their retirement planning. Says Priyanka Bhatia, Co-Founder of Women on Wealth, "Women, by and large, live longer than men and may confront professional interferences, which influence retirement reserve funds essentially. Beginning in your 20s permits women to create strategies that account for longevity risks and potential income gaps. Investments like annuities and dividend-paying assets guarantee a consistent income stream post-retirement, permitting ladies to explore monetary freedom even in later years.". Not to mention, beginning early also permits individuals to take advantage of tax-efficient investments over a more drawn-out period. The Consulate General of India in Toronto on Thursday said it is cancelling some of its scheduled consular camps after the Canadian security authorities conveyed their inability to provide minimum security protection to its organisers. The announcement comes days after an incident of violent disruption by protestors carrying Khalistani flags at a consular event co-organised by the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton and the Indian Consulate. "In view of the security agencies conveying their inability to provide minimum security protection to the community camp organisers, the Consulate has decided to cancel some of the scheduled consular camps," the Consulate General of India said in a post on X. On November 3, the protest occurred at the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton and unverified videos circulating on social media appeared to show demonstrators holding banners in support of Khalistan. The protestors clashed with people and disrupted the consular event. The incident was condemned by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who said every Canadian has the right to practise their faith freely and safely. India condemned the attack with an expectation that those indulging in violence "will be prosecuted". In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said that New Delhi remains "deeply concerned" about the safety and security of Indian nationals in Canada. The relations between India and Canada came under severe strain following Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations in September last year of a "potential" involvement of Indian agents in Khalistan extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar's killing. New Delhi rejected Trudeau's charges as "absurd". India has been maintaining that the main issue between the two countries is that of Canada giving space to pro-Khalistan elements operating from Canadian soil with impunity. Indian consulate in Canada cancels consular camps over security issues, Canadian authorities convey inability to provide security

'A Portrait of Modern Britain: Ethnicity and Religion' published by the <keyword id="23544970" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Policy-Exchange" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Policy Exchange" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Policy Exchange">Policy Exchange</keyword> reflects an in-depth examination of the demographic, educational, health and economic situation of different ethnic groups in the country. The report calls for a new government-led <keyword id="23544966" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="national-integration-strategy" source="keywords">national integration strategy</keyword>, with children in Britain taught to be proud of their national heritage in an inclusive manner that reflects the country's history and traditions. "The ethnic group with the highest concentration of professional workers was Indian - with British Indians also having the highest rate of home ownership - with 71 per cent living in a property which is either owned outright or owned with a mortgage/loan or shared ownership," the report notes. "The diversity contained with the term 'ethnic minority' is now so broad - both within each minority and between minorities - that considering ethnic minorities as a monolithic group for public policy purposes is now increasingly meaningless," it states. "Categories such as 'South Asian' do not only serve to mask over noteworthy economic and social disparities between Britain's Indians, Pakistanis, and Bangladeshis - but also mean that very real forms of diversity within these sizeable groupings at times go unrecognised," it cautions. The report analyses the <keyword id="23544967" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="2021-UK-Census" source="keywords">2021 UK Census</keyword> data and other statistical resources, combining this with polling conducted by Redfield and Wilton. Besides a nationally representative sample of 2,000 people of all ethnicities, "booster" samples were used of 1,400 ethnic minority respondents - 200 each from the Black African, Black Caribbean, Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Chinese and Mixed-Race ethnic groups. "These days, integration won't happen naturally... Recent years have seen conflicts generated far away from our shores break out on our streets. The politics of the Indian sub-continent and the Middle East for example are no longer 'quarrels in a faraway country between people of whom we know nothing'," Sir Trevor Phillips, senior fellow at Policy Exchange, says in his foreword. "Policy Exchange's portrait of our nation teaches us one thing above all: our future rests on managing our diversity, and complacency is the surest pathway to the growth of extremism and conflict," he concludes. Among the key findings of the analysis was that almost three in four people - 72 per cent of those polled - believe that children should be taught to be proud of <keyword id="23544969" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="British-history" source="keywords">British history</keyword>, with a majority also believing that Britain has historically been a force for good in the world. The CEA praised the shift in fiscal expenditure priorities over the past seven years, with greater focus on capital investments rather than revenue spending. This reallocation, he suggested, has bolstered long-term economic stability and growth potential. India’s GDP growth for the July-September quarter was 5.4%, significantly below the Reserve Bank of India’s forecast of 7%. "Domestically, market participants will be watching institutional flows and upcoming economic data, such as the HSBC India Manufacturing PMI and HSBC India Services PMI, for direction," he added. Observing a cautious approach of the investors, Bagga stated that the markets are now worried about the Fed rate cuts that could lead to weaker stock markets over the next few months. However, he expressed his optimism saying there have been instances where the correction has been short-lived and shallow. "Given that we are at a mid-cycle US economic consolidation, rather than a full-blown, or incipient US recession, this time around may prove to be an instance of a shallow and short-lived market correction," Bagga added. In the last week, global markets provided a boost to investor sentiment. In the US, recent economic data pointed to a slowdown in inflation, with the CPI dropping to a three-year low of 2.9%. Retail sales in July also exceeded expectations, growing by 1%, which fueled speculation that the US <keyword id="19904332" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="federal-reserve" source="keywords">Federal Reserve</keyword> may cut interest rates by 50 basis points in September. This drop is particularly stark when compared to July, where <keyword id="6389755" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="foreign-portfolio-investors" source="Orion">foreign portfolio investors</keyword> (<keyword id="19930635" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FPIs" source="keywords">FPIs</keyword>) had invested Rs 32,365 crore, according to data from the National Securities Depository Limited (<keyword id="77072" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NSDL" source="Orion">NSDL</keyword>). As per the data by NSDL, throughout August, foreign investors were largely net sellers in the Indian equity market. However, a significant shift occurred on Friday, 30 August, when <keyword id="2005494" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fpis" source="Orion">FPIs</keyword> made a record <keyword id="22995980" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="net-investment" source="keywords">net investment</keyword> of Rs 14,518.14 crore in a single day, turning the overall monthly investment positive. The data also highlighted that the foreign investors during the last week of August (Aug 26 to 30) made a record net investment in the equity market of Rs 23,585.92 crore, which turned the overall investment in the month positive. "FPI investment in equity is steadily coming down recently with net investment of only Rs 7320 crores in August compared to Rs 32365 crores in July. The fundamental reason for the poor FPI interest is the high <keyword id="19896943" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="valuation" source="keywords">valuation</keyword> in the Indian market. With Nifty now trading at above 20 times estimated FY 25 earnings, India is the most expensive market in the world now" said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services. The experts also pointed out that the FPIs have opportunities to invest in much cheaper markets and, therefore, their priority is markets other than India. The bulk of the buying that FPIs are doing are through the 'primary market and others' category. In the cash market, they have been consistent sellers because of the elevated valuations. "Valuations in the Indian equity market have risen to relatively high levels, leading FIIs to exercise caution when investing in India. They have been selectively investing in defensive market segments, focusing on sectors such as healthcare and FMCG. On the debt market front, the strong buying trend among FIIs can be traced back to India's addition to JP Morgan's Emerging Market government bond indices earlier this June" said Vaibhav Porwal, Co-founder, Dezerv FPIs, which involve investors acquiring foreign financial assets, play a significant role in influencing market dynamics by channelling substantial funds into the Indian equity market.
