New Delhi, <keyword id="1406196" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-knowledge-workers" source="Orion">Indian knowledge workers</keyword> are the happiest at work compared to their global counterparts, and for a more satisfying work relationship -- 97 per cent of <keyword id="159493" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gen-Z" source="Orion">Gen Z</keyword> and Millenial employees are willing to sacrifice a portion of their salary, a new study revealed on Wednesday. According to the HP Work Relationship Index, 50 per cent of Indian knowledge workers show a sense of workplace contentment against only 27 per cent of the global workforce reporting a healthy relationship with work. "We're seeing a major change in what matters most to India's workforce. They're seeking job satisfaction through flexibility, mental well-being, effective leadership, and the right tools," said Gurpreet Singh Brar, Vice President, HP India market. The study surveyed over 15,600 respondents, including knowledge workers, IT decision-makers, and business leaders in 12 countries, with a sample size of over 1,300 respondents in India. The survey pinpointed six key drivers of a thriving work relationship -- fulfilment, leadership, people-centricity, skills, tools, and workspace. According to the study, India particularly excels in fulfilment and skills aspects. As the landscape of <keyword id="4350888" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="work-relationships" source="Orion">work relationships</keyword> is changing rapidly in India, 78 per cent of knowledge workers reported increased expectations regarding their relationship with work in the past 2-3 years. Moreover, the report said that only two in five knowledge workers feel confident that their company can give them the right tools to support hybrid work. About 80 per cent mentioned that they believe in the importance of encouraging open emotional communication within the workplace. Business leaders also agreed, with 76 per cent saying emotional intelligence is vital for leadership success and a strong 90 per cent think showing empathy matters. However, a significant gap exists as nearly half (47 per cent) of knowledge workers feel their company's leaders aren't meeting their emotional expectations.

The survey found that stability, salary, and having a good manager are the top three factors for Indian knowledge workers when it comes to choosing the company they work for. “Interestingly, those who deemed their leaders as technology laggards in this area are more likely to quit their job,” the report said. This percentage is three times more than the overall proportion of workers who quit. By establishing good communication with employees, leaders can reduce the risk of quitting by at least 96%, according to the report. More than 1 in 2 (52 per cent) gig <keyword id="6360043" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="workers" source="Orion">workers</keyword> in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> feel that their work environment makes it challenging to <keyword id="3736601" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="upskill" source="Orion">upskill</keyword> or find new job opportunities, a report showed on Tuesday. Almost 50 per cent of online platform workers find their jobs through traditional referral networks despite 80 per cent having internet access, according to the report by CIIE.CO, a startup platform built at <keyword id="19483" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="iim-ahmedabad" source="Orion">IIM Ahmedabad</keyword>. The report was prepared after a survey of 4,070 platform-based gig workers between the high earning knowledge workers and daily-wage agricultural workers. Of the 400 women surveyed, 60 per cent provided services related to being house helps and earned relatively low. Nearly 78 per cent held less than two different jobs since 2015, while 46.5 per cent of the individuals held their jobs longer than 24 months, the findings showed. "Over 32.4 per cent of respondents still function on cash. This is in spite of the vast majority of them being literate and having access to the internet," the report noted. The report suggested that for financial inclusion to truly occur at scale in India, there is a need for technology to bring down costs of servicing end-users to a fraction of what it is today, need for distribution models to be drastically changed to optimise for the last mile, and the unit economics to be more inclusive. "In many ways, gig workers are channels through which the old and new India interact. Enabling gig workers to own and use their employment, financial, health etc. data will improve their well-being and unlock the growth of both traditional and new economies," said <keyword id="309812" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="supriya-sharma" source="Orion">Supriya Sharma</keyword>, Partner-Insights, CIIE.CO. Being powered by declining internet and hardware costs, technology-based platforms are becoming a lifeline for employment at a time when traditional sectors dwindle in size and reach. "Of the 4,070 individuals, over 2,000 respondents were 30 years of age or younger. This stands testament to the trend of young India finding the gig economy and its platforms as preferable sources of work opportunities and income generation," said the report. Empowering the gig worker with owning and using his or her own data, would improve their wellbeing, including job prospects and financial health, it added. 1 in 2 Indian gig workers finds it difficult to upskill, find new job

In India, business leaders believe that AI is going to eat away at jobs while employees don't seem to be that concerned. A new study by <keyword id="10387" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Microsoft">Microsoft</keyword> and the <keyword id="668267" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="International-Data-Corporation">International Data Corporation</keyword> (IDC) shows only 4% of workers think that AI a threat to employment. But, business leaders don't agree. As many 18% of business leaders believe that AI can take over jobs and replace employees.

AI is threatening small jobs but Indian workers are oblivious

Underlining the contribution of non-resident Indians, Union Finance Minister <keyword id="129243" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nirmala-sitharaman" source="Orion">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword> on Tuesday said <keyword id="6369957" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="remittances" source="Orion">remittances</keyword> sent to the country by overseas Indians were about USD 100 billion for the year 2022, an increase of 12 per cent in one year. Speaking at a session during the <keyword id="70478" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pravasi-Bharatiya-Divas" source="Orion">Pravasi Bharatiya Divas</keyword> (PBD) convention in Madhya Pradesh's Indore city, she described NRIs as the "real ambassadors of India" and appealed to them to use made in India products and services as far as possible so that the country's individual brand can be promoted across the globe. Sitharaman also said that after the "China plus one" policy, the world is now talking about the "European Union (EU) plus one" policy. The government is strongly presenting India to multinational companies as a country where they can set up their factories apart from China and the EU, she said. People will normally need to be paid at least 25,600 pounds per year unless the "going rate" for that job in the wider economy is higher. Applications are made online, and as part of this, people will need to prove their identity and provide their documents. The total cost of non-health insurance fraud is estimated at some $40 billion a year, <a href="https://www.fbi.gov/stats-services/publications/insurance-fraud">according to the FBI</a>.Indian fraudsters have been able to make thousands of dollars by claiming people have died. Ismail Hussain, who was advised by a friend to make up an imaginary brother, forged birth records and bribed the local high school headmaster to issue a fake graduation diploma. Hussain paid $192 for a $32,000 policy that he claimed in 2017. He "killed" his non-existent brother five years after creating him.His friend, Manik Ali, told Bloomberg that he'd gotten the idea of insurance fraud while working as a claims investigator. When Hussain claimed the life insurance policy, he collected more than 12 times the typical worker is paid in two years. In India, the <a href="https://tradingeconomics.com/india/minimum-wages">national minimum wage</a> is about $2.25 a day, or $62 a month. Parbin divorced her husband after she found out he was trying to use her fake death to claim on a life insurance policy. Indian IT stocks are surging with Joe Biden's win in the 2020 US Presidential Election

Abu Dhabi, May 1 () More than 32,000 Indians in the UAE, who wish to return home amidst the coronavirus lockdown, have registered with the Indian missions here on day one of the opening of the online registration process, according to a media report.On Wednesday night, the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi announced the details of data collection through the website of the Indian Consulate in Dubai. Within minutes, the site faced technical issues, prompting the missions to delete the tweet about it and repost it hours later.In a tweet posted in the wee hours of Thursday, the Indian Consulate asked applicants "to bear with it if it takes time for the page to load due to high traffic.""As of 5pm on Thursday, we received more than 32,000 registrations," Consul General of India in Dubai Vipul told the Gulf News.Vipul said the technical issues took place because of the huge rush of people trying to access the webpage on the Consulate's site for registration.Though the mission is yet to analyse the data to know the "compelling reasons" for the applicants to travel home, Vipul said the applications comprise various emergency cases including that of pregnant women."We understand that people want to go home for various reasons. People should be ready for travel by keeping in mind the overall restrictions on travel given the pandemic situation. Those who wish to go urgently should keep trying to register on the website in the next few days," he said.He said the registration would be open for some days and the data collected by the Indian missions in various countries would be provided to Indian states for making preparations for their travel. The Consul General reiterated that the registration in the databank does not guarantee a seat on the initial flights that would be arranged to repatriate the most deserving categories of people. "Workers in acute distress, medical cases, pregnant women, the elderly and the group of Indians stranded in Dubai Airport," are likely to get first priority when the government resumes services for repatriation, he said. Since there is no guidance from the Indian government on the conditions for travelling, he said, it is not yet clear how the COVID-19 status of an applicant would impact the journey. When asked about media reports that said 500 Air India flights and three warships of the Indian Navy are on standby for evacuating stranded Indians abroad, Vipul said he had no knowledge about warships being readied for the process. "I am sure Air India will be involved. Whether the pandemic is under control or not, consumers have begun to reclaim their lives – shopping will soon follow. The huge success of IPL where advertisers were willing to pay pre-Covid rates is a testimony to the positive sentiment of festive advertising. However, let us first look at the Economy. It has dropped by almost 24% in Q1 of 2020-21 as compared to Q4 of 2019-20 (which grew by 3.3% over the Q3 2019-20). Of course, by the time the festive season begins there will be some improvement, but will it be in the positive? Probably not. When you compare the GDP growth of Q3 (Oct-Dec) over the last two years, we see the GDP growth was above 5.1% in 2018-19 and about 4.6% in 2019-20. When you compare the advertising spends during festive season in 2019-20 you will find it was lesser than what was done in 2018-19. A small dip in GDP growth did manifest in less business in real life. Now in 2020-21 we are facing a decline in GDP! Let’s now look at the pandemic. The number of people who are getting infected has reached almost a lakh per day. Slowly as normalcy is restored with the opening of Public transport, Offices, Shopping malls etc. the number of affected people per day may continue to grow even during the festive season. And now let us look at the society at large and the consuming class. The stock market has grown by more than 50% in 5 months between 23 March and 28 August which may have increased the wallet size of the few investors. The consuming class too may have saved money despite reduction in their monthly income with their focus shifting to saving and investing more than spending. But when you add up these two classes of people though the number is healthy it is not awesome. Even if you add the 3.5 lakh odd millionaires the numbers won’t improvedrastically. In a light-hearted way it is understood that this class of people do not need to wait for festivals to spend or consume, for them every day is Diwali! It is the huge middle class from the middle to bottom of the economic pyramid that is badly affected. They are counting money for survival. India has 63 Million Micro Enterprise. Now if you assume each Micro Enterprise employs 2 people and each worker and the owners live in a 3-member family home, the total number of people who are dependent turns out to be about 600 million. A lot of them are dependent on daily sales and daily wages and donot have much cash saved. These are the people who are part of the consumption net and a lot of them look forward to festivals to spend on indulgence. While the advertisers will reach out with their offers (most of them will try to reduce the cost of goods on offer, which in turn will increase the cost per customer acquired) the actual commerce is likely to be much less than both expectations and last year. Advertisers will write off this year and try to build customer confidence. All forms of media have gone overboard to create fear rather than create knowledge-based caution. Advertisers will have to pitch “things will be fine soon” to all the customers to first try to eliminate the fear of continued lesser income (and to some extent health) uncertainty. Only discounts and superficial feel good messaging may not be good enough. A lot of advertisers will get encouraged by the surge in media consumption (both reach and time spent). They will try to splurge and since this will be more in hope than as a calculated risk, it could be even bigger than the spend last year.

To ensure best-in-class skill training programmes, the Academy has partnered with various industry leaders as knowledge partners to co-create the course curriculum and content and has also set-up laboratories for imparting practical training. Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs) As part of a national programme initiated by the <keyword id="386230" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Rural-Development">Ministry of Rural Development</keyword> (MoRD), ICICI has set up Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RSETIs) in Udaipur and Jodhpur. This programme focuses on providing free vocational training in locally-relevant skills that empower villagers to be self-reliant. The initiative also promotes entrepreneurship and development of micro-enterprises by providing loans. ICICI RSETIs offer 38 programmes and over 61,000 individuals have been trained at RSETIs. RSETIs offer 2-4 weeks courses for underprivileged rural people in the age group of 18-45 years. ICICI also makes sure that the needs of local employers are mapped to design relevant courses under the rural initiative that are customised to suit the local requirements with a focus on practical execution of skills. All the trainees are additionally oriented on life skills, financial literacy and workplace organisation (Five S) to ensure a holistic learning experience. The ICICI Foundation has tied up with a large number of industry partners to provide employment opportunities to their trainees. The trainees have been placed in over 1000 companies including Eureka Forbes, Daikin, Bluestar among others.
