<ul><li>Indian state-owned broadcaster DD National is all set to broadcast Chhota Bheem starting today. </li><li>The popular animation series will air every afternoon between 2 pm to 2:30 PM on DD National from April 17 to May 3, 2020. </li><li>Indian entertainment channel <keyword id="10822" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pogo">POGO</keyword> which is the creator of the show, partnered with Doordarshan. </li></ul>Doordarshan is leaving no stone unturned to engage millions of people during the lockdown. Bringing back the classics After India shut itself down to contain the COVID-19 outbreak, Doordarshan brought back all its classics from the eighties to entertain people. Its mythological show Ramayan gained 174 million viewers within four days of re-telecast. Whereas, it received more than 500 million views between 28 March and 4 April. New Delhi, Mar 9 () Majority of the Indian media and entertainment companies are of the opinion that they must reinvent themselves to navigate the technological disruptions impacting the industry, says a report by EY.About 52 per cent executives from the media and entertainment sector in India believe they can no longer rely on traditional business models, if they are to remain future relevant, said the report titled "How are media and entertainment businesses reinventing in an age of transformation?"Moreover, one third of them recognise upskilling of the existing workforce as the key to talent development to meet the changing industry demands, it added.While, 21 per cent admit their businesses need to reinvigorate, but are unsure what actions to prioritise, said the report which is based on a survey of 350 industry leaders from around the world, which also includes 29 from India."While 52 per cent Indian M&amp;E executives realised that their traditional business models were not reliable in the long run, yet just 24 per cent of Indian executives felt that their companies would cease to exist without innovation, demonstrating their confidence that traditional media will survive in the future," the report said.It further said: "Many Indian executives cited the multiplicity of options available to invest in digital media as confusing, and one in five executives were unclear on how to prioritize their digital investments, particularly given the long break even periods required.""The question of whether to focus on content production for immediate gains versus building direct to customer and platform/data capabilities was a key area of discussion," it added.According to it, almost one in two Indian executives felt the pressure to "maximise short-term results as a barrier to innovation", which also reflected in just one in three Indian executives believing in upskilling of their existing workforce.The survey also highlights "a sense of perplexity" among media and entertainment businesses, with 28 per cent indicating the need to reinvigorate their business, without thorough knowledge of what aspects to prioritise.Commenting on it, EY India Media &amp; Entertainment Leader, Partner Ashish Pherwani said: "With fast-paced transformations in business models and revenue streams, media and entertainment companies that otherwise are optimistic about change, are facing a challenge to determine a starting point. Titled 'Playing by new rules', the report said that with its current trajectory, the <keyword id="2345885" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="ME-sector">M&amp;E sector</keyword> in India is expected to reach ₹2.23 lakh crore ($30.6 billion) by 2023 at a CAGR of 17 per cent. In 2020 while the television continued to remain the largest segment, <keyword id="124571" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="digital-media">digital media</keyword> has overtaken print, and <keyword id="6422069" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="online-gaming">online gaming</keyword> has overtaken a disrupted filmed entertainment segment. The Indian media and entertainment sector has de-grown by 24 per cent to ₹1.38 trillion ($19 billion) in 2020. Digital media and online gaming were the only segments that grew in 2020 adding an aggregate of ₹2,600 crore. Other segments have de-grown by an aggregate of ₹46,700 billion. Dilip Chenoy, Secretary General FICCI, said that though the media and entertainment sector has been largely impacted by the pandemic, the positive news is that the digital subscription has grown by 49 per cent and the online gaming industry has grown by 18 percent. He further mentioned that different sectors of the media and entertainment industry will take different time to recover and this makes the report more crucial. Indian media & entertainment industry may grow by 25% in 2021, says FICCI report

The Indian OTT sector is currently in the scaling stage with strong subscription growth and high investment in premium &amp; original content. The sector is one of the most competitive amongst emerging markets with 40+ players representing all types of content providers. “Cord cutting” (cancelling TV subscription and moving to OTT) is in nascent stages and is expected to be limited in the medium term. “The share of traditional media is slowly declining with increased digital adoption but there is still high headroom for penetration with only 54% of Indian households having a pay TV connection compared to more than 70% in China. AVOD is now one of the fastest growing ad segments in India driven by interactive ad formats, blending of content and ads and the rise of short form AVOD platforms. One of the major themes in this year’s report is the industry’s anticipated transformation over the next decade. Media and Entertainment industry bounced back strongly post COVID blip, on-track to reach $55-70 billion by 2030: Report

Vijay Kiragandur, the founder of Hombale Films, said the company is planning to produce movies in all south languages. "We intend to invest Rs 3,000 crore for the next five years in the entertainment industry in India. We believe the entertainment industry will grow more and more. "It will be a mixed bag of stories. Every year there will be five-six films including one event movie. As of now we have plans of making movies in all south languages," Kiragandur told PTI in an interview. The goal, the producer said, is to reach out to a wider audience through culturally rooted stories. "We want to make something that is liked by the global audience, but we want it to be rooted in our culture and tradition. We want to leave something behind for the younger generation. We also want to contribute towards the Indian economy," he added. In order to expand their viewership, the Bangalore-based production banner has decided to join hands with writers and filmmakers from the Hindi film industry. Without divulging details, Hombale Films partner Chaluve Gowda said they have roped in two leading writers from Bollywood to pen movies for the banner. "We are working with a couple of writers in Hindi... Once the story is ready then we will look for directors and then actors. We first concentrate on writers because they are the ones who create the story," he said. The company's upcoming movie slate includes pan-India Prabhas-starrer "Salaar", set to be released on September 28. The action adventure film is directed by Prashanth Neel. They are also backing multilingual film "Dhoomam", Kannada action movie "Bagheera" and <keyword id="6356629" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tamil" source="Orion">Tamil</keyword> film "Raghuthata" with Keerti Suresh. The banner is launching Yuva Rajkumar, grandson of superstar Rajkumar, in one of their upcoming titles. The film will be directed by Santhosh Anandram and it will be released by the end of 2023. "For the next year we have four to five movies and for another two years we will have 12 to 14 movies," Kiragandur added. In 2024, there is a social thriller "Tyson" in pipeline with Prithviraj Sukumaran, "Richard Anthony" with Rakshit Shetty and a movie with director Sudha Kongara of "Soorarai Pottru" fame. Hombale Films, which was founded in 2013, tasted pan-India success in 2018 with period action "K.G.F: Chapter 1" starring Yash. The first film produced by the company was Puneeth Rajkumar-led "Ninnindale". This year the banner had a golden run at the global box office with "KGF: Chapter 2" and "Kantara" emerging as big successes. Both the movies have reportedly earned over Rs 2,000 crore worldwide. "We were able to beat some records that we created, like 'Kantara' became the highest grossing film in Karnataka. For 'KGF 2' the footfalls were six crore and for 'Kantara' it was about two-and-half to three crore," Kiragandur said. Also in the pipeline is the third part of "KGF", which Gowda said will become their focus after director Neel completes "Salaar". "There are plans to make 'KGF 3'. Currently, Prashant is busy with 'Salaar' and once he has completed the movie then he will work on the script (for 'KGF 3'). He has a storyline... It can happen next year or after that," the producer said.
