In an interaction with PTI, Mercedes-Benz India MD and CEO Santosh Iyer said the luxury car segment is set for its best-ever performance this year with <keyword id="19894908" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Festive-season" source="keywords">festive season</keyword> offtakes playing a major role in the overall performance. He noted that the festive season generally gives high double-digit <keyword id="20040491" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sales-growth" source="keywords">sales growth</keyword>, helping the automaker to average out single-digit growth of the earlier quarter. "So in that sense, on an average, then we are able to get a double-digit growth during the festive season," Iyer stated. Elaborating on the overall industry, which still remains a very small part of the overall passenger vehicle market in the country, he said the segment is headed for record volumes this fiscal year but not all players are witnessing growth." Some (companies) are even degrowing, some are flat and they are facing headwinds, but because we are the primary player in the market, we still feel the luxury car market should cross 50,000-51,000 cars this year," Iyer said. The luxury car market in India currently remains very small accounting for less than 2 % of the overall passenger vehicle market in the country. Audi India Head Balbir Singh Dhillon said the automaker anticipates positive buying trends to continue during the festive season. "Our best-selling models - the A4, A6, Q3, Q3 Sportback, Q5, Q7, and the newly launched Q8 - continue to drive robust demand," he added. The company is equally optimistic about the e-tron range, the e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT, Dhillon said. BMW Group India President Vikram Pawah said the fundamentals of the Indian economy are sturdy and consumer confidence in the luxury segment is on the rise. "For BMW Group India, the order bank is solid and we are trying our best to speed up deliveries for our customers. Along with additional bookings around Diwali and Dussehra, we are confident of closing the year on a high note while clocking impressive growth," he stated. He noted that the group is witnessing very strong demand for products across all segments. Pawah said that in the run-up to the festive season, the company has introduced several special editions of its existing model range. The festive season usually commences with Onam and ends with Diwali every year.

The company reported a 23% year-on-year growth in shipments, driven by its streamlined and focused portfolio. Vivo has emerged as a close second with a market share of 18.8% in Q2 2024, up from 17.4% in Q2 2023. The company maintained the second spot. Samsung, which was at the top spot in Q2 2023 with an 18.4% market share was pushed to the third spot with a market share of 18.1%. Realme and Vivo maintained the fourth and fifth spots with a market share of 12.5% and 11.4% respectively. <h2>Indians moving towards <keyword id="19914395" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="premium-smartphones" source="keywords">premium smartphones</keyword></h2>Indian consumers are moving towards premium smartphones and this was evident in Q2 2024 as the value of smartphones shipped reached a new high for Q2 despite a decline in shipments. The ultra-premium segment, which consists of smartphones priced above INR 45,000 recorded a 24% year-on-year growth. Synology bets big on the Indian market amid strong growth, growing demand

Moreover, the strength of the American currency in the overseas market and elevated crude oil prices weighed on the local unit and restricted the upmove. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 83.56 and gained further to trade at 83.54 against the greenback in initial deals, registering an increase of 5 paise from its previous closing level. "The <keyword id="20045514" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-rupee" source="keywords">Indian rupee</keyword> has remained steady despite a strengthening US Dollar driven by rising US bond yields and diminished expectations of Fed rate cuts following robust US employment figures," CR Forex Advisors MD Amit Pabari said. Pabari further said that falling fiscal deficits, stronger growth and reduced political uncertainties, with Narendra Modi's coalition government taking charge, have provided some support for the rupee. "The Reserve Bank of India, armed with substantial reserves of USD 651 billion, stands ready to intervene to prevent significant rupee depreciation," he said. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading 0.03 per cent higher at 105.25. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, rose 0.41 per cent to USD 82.26 per barrel. On the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex was trading 269.20 points, or 0.35 per cent higher at 76,725.79 points. The broader NSE Nifty advanced 92.60 points or 0.4 per cent to 23,357.45 points in initial trade. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Tuesday, selling shares worth Rs 111.04 crore, according to exchange data.
