Yesterday, The International Court of Justice (ICJ) had in its final verdict directed Pakistan to suspend the death penalty on Jadhav given in 2017 for charges of sabotage and espionage. He will also be provided consular access which was denied by Pakistan. “Pakistan was found to have deprived India of the right to communicate with Jadhav, have access to him, visit him in detention, and arrange his legal representation,” S Jaishankar, the Minister of External Affairs (MEA), said speaking at both the houses of Parliament. Jadhav, the 47-year old retired <keyword id="6355100" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Navy">Indian Navy</keyword> officer was apprehended by Pakistan security forces in <keyword id="45793" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Balochistan">Balochistan</keyword> province of Pakistan. He was charged with espionage, three years back. In April 2017, he was sentenced to death on charges of espionage and terrorism. “Kulbhushan Jadhav is innocent of the charges made against him. His forced confession, without legal representation and due process will not change this reality,” Jaishankar further said. “We once again call Pakistan to release and repatriate him forthwith,” the minister said. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) had yesterday unanimously delivered the judgement that Jadhav must be given judicial representation, by a vote of 15-1. The judgement was welcomed across party lines and all thumped the benches as Jaishankar said that the government will vigorously continue its efforts to ensure his safety and well being, and his timely return to India. The ICJ clearly pronounced that the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations was breached by Pakistan as it did not notify India of Jadhav’s detention in time and deprived India of its right to communicate with and provide consular access to Jadhav. It is to be noted that the Court has asked Pakistan to provide for appropriate reparation of its own choice in the case. The minister termed the ICJ verdict as a vindication for not only India and Jadhav but also for all those who believe in the rule of law and respect and work by the international treaties.

Dubai, Apr 12 () The UAE has offered to fly stranded Indians and citizens of other countries, who wish to be repatriated, if they test negative for COVID-19, the country's envoy to India told a Gulf daily. The UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MOFAIC) had sent out a "note verbale" in this regard to all the embassies in the UAE, including the Indian mission, during the past couple of weeks, the country's Ambassador to India Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Banna told Gulf News over phone on Saturday. "We have sent the note verbale and all the embassies have been informed including the Indian embassy in the UAE and even the Ministry of External Affairs in India," Al Banna was quoted as saying by the daily. He said the UAE has offered to test those who want to be evacuated. "We are assuring everybody that we have the best of the facilities, the best of the testing centres and we have tested more than 500,000 people," he said. "We are assuring them also of our cooperation to fly those who got stranded in the UAE for some reasons. Some got stuck because of the lockdown and closure of airports in India. Some were visiting the UAE." "We are offering our system and making sure that they are good (to fly) by doing all the tests and transport them according to the request of their own government," he said. The envoy said those who test positive for COVID-19 will remain in the UAE. "They will be treated in our home facilities," he added. The Kerala High Court on Saturday sought the central government's response to a petition seeking a direction to bring back Indians stranded in the UAE in view of the coronavirus outbreak in the gulf nation. Considering the plea by Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC) in Dubai, the court directed the Centre to file an affidavit on the steps taken by it to ensure the safety of Indians living there and bring back those stuck in the Gulf countries. In its plea, KMCC, the organisation for non-resident Indians from Kerala, sought directions to the Ministries of External Affairs and Civil Aviation to provide exemptions in the international air travel ban to bring back those Indians stranded in the UAE. Pakistan bows to the international court and grants Kulbhushan Jadhav consular access

New Delhi, Jan 22 () The government is working on ways, including setting up standards and identifying goods, to promote sale and marketing of products made by tribal communities in domestic and global markets, an official said.
The commerce and industry ministry has held detailed discussions on the matter with ministries of tribal affairs, minority affairs, Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) and industry chambers like CII, the official said.
"To begin, about 100 products would be identified for promoting tribal products within and outside the country. Large retail chains would be identified for marketing support," the official said. 
Bureau of Indian Standards and Quality Council of India would be involved to work on international standards and quality of those goods as it is important for entering global markets.
Opportunities will be explored in railways as a customer and sale facilitator.
The move comes after an observation made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a meeting, where he was reviewing the works of tribal affairs ministry earlier this month.
He has mandated the commerce ministry to bring all stakeholders, including different departments, to work on this issue.
The official added that quality, quantity and visibility are important factors which need special focus for promoting sale and marketing of products made by tribal communities which include artefacts, garments and organic produce.
Besides, the ministry is looking at infrastructure required for testing and certification of those goods; tariff codes; and tribal clusters to initiate such activities.
It was advised to all ministries and departments to include these products as gift items for dignitaries and during Diwali festival. 
 These items would also be showcased in international retail exhibitions and business meets.
It was also directed by the ministry to identify design, packaging, marketing components, advertisements, and designers of repute. RR

Another airline has caved to the China's demands and wiped all mention of Taiwan from its website

New Delhi, Dec 14 () A high-level delegation led by Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Raosaheb Patil Danve on Saturday left for Australia in pursuance of a collaborative project on consumer protection.
 The delegation will take part in phase two of the Australia-India Collaborative Consumer Protection Project under Sydney University, an official statement said.
 Under the funding from the Australia-India Council (AIC), established in 1992, and the support from the Department of Consumer Affairs, the Sydney University has undertaken the consumer protection project.
 The project will be implemented in four stages -- workshops and round-table in New Delhi (by Sydney University), followed by a high level delegation from India to Australia.
 The third stage is the secondment of one person from India to Australia to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, while the fourth stage is specialised workshops in New Delhi, it added.
 "Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it is our priority to protect all the rights of the consumers of the nation. The consumer protection act 2019 passed by the parliament, is a giant leap towards safeguarding consumers from all the unfair trade practices. While, the bill has already been passed by the parliament, the process of formulation of rules and regulations is currently underway," the statement quoted Danve as saying.
 "In this process, the Australian-India Council and the Department of Consumer Affairs have been working very closely. Our basic aim through this project is to understand international practices in this field and further strengthen the rules and regulations of the new Consumer Protection Act 2019 which will eventually make the consumers of this country more empowered and self-sufficient," he added.

Indian delegation leaves for Aus for consumer protection project

 "According to international law India can't unilaterally separate itself from the treaty," said Sartaj Aziz, according to reports, adding, “The treaty (Indus Waters Treaty) was not suspended even during the <keyword id="6376114" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kargil">Kargil</keyword> and the Siachen wars.” 
 India is mulling to suspend the meeting regarding the <keyword id="162840" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indus-Water-Commission">Indus Water Commission</keyword>. 
 "Blood and water cannot flow simultaneously," Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> told a meeting to review the Indus Waters Treaty. The meeting was held to discuss ways to make Pakistan pay for the terrorist attack on the <keyword id="71431" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Uri">Uri</keyword> attack. It was also decided to increase the retaliation against the country. 
 
As sources said, India could even consider walking out of the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) if Pakistan does not rein in terrorists, adding that the water-sharing pact is not sacrosanct.

The question really becomes whether India-Pakistan relations are the only issue that animate Indian interest on a global stage. The focus on regional issues on the global platform keeps India from engaging with other nations on international concerns and takes from the impact that India has on other issues that are been contested. The manifesto pitched for having 33% reservations for women in all internal committees of political parties and to have 30% of the annual budget for growth and development of women. India should bar political parties with low women representation, demands activist group

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has told Delhi High Court through an affidavit that <keyword id="215177" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vivo" source="Orion">Vivo</keyword> India indulged in money laundering to destabilise the financial system and challenge the integrity and sovereignty of the country. The affidavit was filed before the Delhi High Court last week. The anti-money laundering agency has said in the affidavit that they were scanning the suspicious financial transactions of 22 firms owned by Hongkong based foreigners and entities. These firms transferred huge money to China. The firm was reportedly incorporated on the basis of forged documents and it was claiming to be a subsidiary of Vivo India. The firm used an email peter.ou@vivoglobal.com, indicates connection with Vivo India and it is in record of Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Delhi-based Chartered Accountant firm had helped in incorporating J&amp;K based firm. This firm has been in touch with Vivo India since 2014. The ED has mentioned that Vivo India incorporated 22 firms in different states which allegedly laundered money. The Delhi based CA firm helped Vivo India in incorporating 22 firms. Earlier, Vivo India had said that they were following all rules of the land of India. Chinese smartphone company Vivo's top executives, directors Zhengshen Ou and Zhang Jie, had fled from India via Nepal. In February, the ED initiated a Prevention of Money Laundering case against them on the basis of an FIR lodged with Kalkaji Police Station of Delhi under sections 417, 120B and 420 of IPC, 1860 against Grand Prospect International Communication Private Limited (GPICPL) and its Director, shareholders and certifying professionals etc on the basis of complaint filed by Ministry of Corporate Affairs. As per the FIR, GPICPL and its shareholders had used forged identification documents and falsified addresses at the time of incorporation. The allegations were found to be true as the investigation revealed that the addresses mentioned by the directors of GPICPL did not belong to them, but was a government building and house of a senior bureaucrat. ED has said that out of the total sale proceeds of Rs 1,25,185 crore, Vivo India remitted Rs 62,476 crore. i.e, almost 50 per cent of the turnover is out of India, mainly to China.
