However, according to a Cisco <a href="https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/solutions/collateral/executive-perspectives/annual-internet-report/white-paper-c11-741490.html">report</a>, the growth rate of devices connected to the internet will be seven times that of the population growth rate by 2023. The forecast states that India will have 2.1 billion connected devices by 2023, increasing from 1.5 billion in 2018. This means that at an estimated population of 1.42 billion by 2023, there will be three connected devices for every two individuals. Smartphones could cover 55% of the population The report also claims that smartphones could be used by 55% of the total population by 2023, growing from 610.9 million in 2018 at a rate of 5% compounded annually. Interestingly, internet connected devices are estimated to grow at 7% - higher than both smartphones as well as mobile connected devices. This suggests that Indians could continue to buy non-portable devices which are connected to the internet – this could include things like TVs and other home appliances. Half of the population to have a broadband connection Despite the pan-India availability of 4G services, the report says that Indians could increasingly opt for a wired or wireless broadband connection. Estimates in the report suggest that nearly half of the Indian population could have a broadband connection by 2023, growing from 359.8 million in 2018 to 697.4 million in 2023 at a rate of 14.2%. 4G will continue to dominate, 5G share to be under 5% Although 5G trials in India are expected to start some time later this year, the next-gen technology is expected to remain a rarity with a share of under 5%. 4G is expected to dominate with a share of 53.1%, while 3G and other connections will be at 38.7% of the total mobile connections. Mobile application downloads to register explosive growth App downloads in India are expected to register explosive growth over the next three years. The report suggests that there will be 46.2 billion apps downloaded by 2023, more than doubling from 20.7 billion in 2018. Of these, business app downloads are expected to register the highest growth at 28.3%, with total downloads reaching 17.9 billion. Social media and messaging app downloads are expected to reach 17.8 billion, while mobile game downloads are expected to reach 10.5 billion. India to have 966 million mobile users by 2023 but less than 5% will have 5G: report

In 2021, Indians spent more than 699 billion hours on mobile, according to the latest State of Mobile 2022 report by <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/apps/news/mx-takatak-instagram-josh-moj-and-snapchat-are-most-downloaded-social-and-entertainment-apps-in-india-as-per-app-annie/articleshow/86003516.cms">App Annie</a>. This is out of the total 3.8 trillion hours spent on mobile globally. With this much consumption, India takes the second place after China and before the United States. App Annie’s report shows that the consumption of mobile is increasing as compared to China which saw a slight decrease from 2020 to 2021. In 2020, Indians spent 655 billion hours on mobile, and 510 billion hours the previous year. The figures aren’t surprising since India is the second-largest smartphone market in the world adding to that cheap and affordable mobile internet. The number is increasing for India though which saw 18.9 billion downloads in 2019 and 24.3 billion downloads in 2020. Finance apps in particular witnessed over 1 billion downloads in India last year which is an increase from 8.9 million in 2020. This helped fuel the 28% YoY increase in overall finance app downloads globally to 5.9 billion. App Annie also highlighted breakthrough job searching apps in 2021 which was Apna for India with 17.7 million downloads. Overall, Instagram was the most downloaded app in India in 2021. The highest consumer spending app was Hotstar, while WhatsApp had the highest number of monthly active users. 2021 was also a healthy year for the app store ecosystem and revenue according to the App Annie report. A total of two million new apps and games were released in 2021 for iOS and Android devices. Google Play Store accounted for 77% of the total apps and games. In terms of revenue, over 230 apps and games surpassed $100 million in annual consumer spend, and 13 of them even crossed $1 billion. New Delhi, Feb 18 () India is expected to have over 907 million internet users by 2023, up from 398 million in 2018, a report by Cisco said on Tuesday. Also, it is estimated that there will be 2.1 billion networked devices by 2023, with machine-to-machine (M2M) modules accounting for 25 per cent (524.3 million) of all networked devices. According to the report, there will be 907 million internet users (64 per cent of population) in India by 2023, up from 398 million (29 per cent population) in 2018. It added that there will be 966 million total mobile users (68 per cent of population) by 2023, up from 763 million (56 per cent of population) in 2018. Also, one in 20 connections will be 5G with 67.2 million connections by 2023, it said. "In India, devices and connections are growing faster (7 per cent compound annual growth rate) than the population (1 per cent CAGR). This trend is accelerating the increase in the average number of devices and connections per household and per capita," the report said. A growing number of M2M applications such as smart meters, video surveillance, healthcare monitoring, transportation, and package or asset tracking are contributing in a major way to the growth of devices and connections. "By 2023, M2M connections will be 25 per cent of the total devices and connections," the report said. Smartphones are estimated to account for 38 per cent (781 million) of all networked devices, while connected TVs will account for 12 per cent (255.8 million) of all networked devices by 2023. In India, 78 per cent of all networked devices will be in the consumer segment by 2023, compared to 83 per cent in 2018, the report said. Besides, social networking, video streaming and downloads, business productivity, e-commerce, and gaming will drive the continued growth of mobile applications, with nearly 46.2 billion downloaded by 2023. As digital literacy, mobile penetration, and internet connectivity grow deeper into the hinterland, a massive shift will be created in internet usage and consumption patterns across the country, Cisco India and SAARC Managing Director (Service Providers Sales) Anand Bhaskar said. This rise in connectivity and changing consumption patterns will challenge service providers' ability to service their customers in an optimal manner, he added. "Service providers and enterprises will continue on the journey towards software-defined everything and edge computing to lower their overall cost per bit and provide the best customer experience," he added. India's largest telecom operator <keyword id="6354504" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="reliance-jio" source="Orion">Reliance Jio</keyword> added 30.5 lakh mobile subscribers in March, accelerating its momentum of February, while <keyword id="1553175" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="vodafone-idea" source="Orion">Vodafone Idea</keyword> lost 12.12 lakh wireless users during the month, according to data released by telecom regulator <keyword id="6356988" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="TRAI" source="Orion">TRAI</keyword>. Sunil Mittal-led telecom company <keyword id="6354287" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bharti-airtel" source="Orion">Bharti Airtel</keyword> onboarded 10.37 lakh mobile subscribers in March, raising its subscriber base to 37.09 crores in March against 36.98 crores in February. Reliance Jio added 30.5 lakh subscribers in March, as its subscriber count exceeded 43 crore, compared to 42.71 crore in February. It is pertinent to mention that in February too, Reliance Jio had added the maximum number of mobile subscribers (at about 10 lakh) among telcos, while <keyword id="15491" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="airtel" source="Orion">Airtel</keyword> had gained 9.82 lakh mobile users during February. A look at March data released by TRAI showed that Vodafone Idea -- which trails Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel in the mobile market subscriber tally -- lost 12.12 lakh mobile users in March. Vodafone Idea's mobile subscriber base shrunk to 23.67 crore in March, from 23.79 crore in the previous month. Overall, the broadband subscribers' tally rose by 0.86 per cent month-on-month. "... the total broadband subscribers increased from 839.33 million at the end of February-23 to 846.57 million at the end of March-23 with a monthly growth rate of 0.86 per cent," a Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) release said. Top five service providers constituted 98.37 per cent market share of the total broadband subscribers at the end of March 2023, including Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (43.85 crore), Bharti Airtel (24.19 crore), Vodafone Idea (12.48 crore). Overall, the number of total telephone subscribers in India increased to 1,172.84 million (117.2 crore) at the end of March 2023, showing a monthly growth rate of 0.21 per cent. "Urban telephone subscription increased from 652.16 million at the end of February-23 to 653.71 million at the end of March-23 and the rural subscription also increased from 517.77 million to 518.63 million during the same period. "The monthly growth rates of urban and rural telephone subscription were 0.24 per cent and 0.17 per cent respectively during the month of March-23," TRAI said. Overall teledensity in India increased to 84.51 per cent at the end of March 2023. "The Urban Tele-density increased from 133.70 per cent at the end of February-23 to 133.81 per cent at the end of March-23 and rural tele-density also increased from 57.63 per cent to 57.71 per cent during the same period," it said. Jio adds 3 million subscribers in March, Vodafone Idea loses 1.2 million

Sun Mobility aims to serve 10 lakh vehicles through its battery swapping platform by 2025

As <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> rides on 5G with more than 50 cities and towns now enjoying the new technology, the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) Chairman Pankaj Mohindroo said on Monday that by the end of 2023, 75-80 per cent of the new smartphone launches will be 5G-enabled. The 5G services were launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 1. Telecom service providers have launched the service in select cities and plan to cover the entire nation by the end of 2023 or early 2024. "India as a nation is an early adopter of 5G technology. This 5G technology has opened a vast opportunity for a new generation of telecom equipment manufacturers, application providers, and internet of things (IoT), machine-2-machine (M2M) and healthcare services, among others," Mohindroo told IANS. The mobile device ecosystem was an early starter for manufacturing 5G phones. Even before the launch of 5G services, approximately 80-100 million 5G-compatible phones were already in the market. 5G will represent around 53 per cent of mobile subscriptions in India by 2028, with 690 million users, according to 'Ericsson Mobility Report'. 5G subscriptions in India were expected to reach around 31 million by the end of 2022. On semiconductor industry, Mohindroo said that the Indian semiconductor market was $15 billion in 2020 and expected to reach $63 billion by 2023 at 30 per cent CAGR. "This is a huge opportunity for the nation. The government is very focused on setting up the entire semiconductor ecosystem in the country from semiconductor fab, compound semiconductors, discrete semiconductors, assembly, testing, marking, and packaging (ATMP) units, etc," said Mohindroo. The India Semiconductor Mission offers an incentive outlay of Rs 76,000 crore for the development of semiconductor ecosystem in India, offering fiscal support of 50 per cent of the project cost. "We feel that the next focus should be ensuring skilling of the workforce for the sector and incentivising the downstream value chain in semiconductor manufacturing," he said. PUBG Mobile’s latest update has RPG rocket launcher, a 'Domination' mode and much more

A report from mobile-app analytics company <keyword id="1646890" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="App-Annie">App Annie</keyword> has placed India at the fourth rank when it comes to largest <keyword id="3475737" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="app-economies">app economies</keyword>, while adding that Indians have also rapidly increased the amount of time spent on apps. 
 
When it comes to the number of total app downloads per year, India is behind only China, US, and Brazil, with the number set to grow by 92% and reach 7.7 billion downloads by the end of this year. This number would further reach 20.1 billion by 2020. 
 
In comparison, China, which is ahead of India, has a slower growth rate expected this year; however, the absolute figure would still be more than six times more than that of India. 
 
"With the introduction of affordable smartphones and better infrastructure supporting mobile, and given India's population, the growth here is expected to be significant," Junde Yu, MD of App Annie APAC, told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/software/india-is-worlds-fourth-largest-app-economy-report/articleshow/53092793.cms">TNN</a>. He added that the most important thing driving the app economy as of now is not the number of downloads or the revenue; rather, it is the amount of time users spend on these apps. 
 
The amount of time spent by Indians on apps in the first quarter of 2016 grew more than twice when compared from the first quarter of 2014. While retail apps saw the time spent growing by 11.5 times during the same period, video-streaming apps saw it growing 7.4 times.

India would soon have the second largest internet user-base worldwide. The country is set to overtake the US by December 2015. 
 
According to the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Internet+and+Mobile+Association+of+India">Internet and Mobile Association of India</a> (IAMAI) and IMRB, the number of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Internet+users">Internet users</a> in India is expected to reach 402 million by December 2015, registering a growth of 49% over 2014. 
 
While Internet in India took more than a decade to move from 10 million to 100 million and three years from 100 to 200 million, it took only a year to move from 300 to 400 million users. Clearly, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Internet+users">Internet</a> is mainstream in India today, said <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Internet+and+Mobile+Association+of+India">IAMAI</a> in a statement. The large <keyword id="128628" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="internet-users">internet users</keyword> base is definitely a good news for the overall growth of the digital industry, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=e-commerce">e-commerce</a> and internet startups.
