Hard-hitting Netherlands opener Max O'Dowd (up 10 places to 54th) and USA's Monank Patel (up 11 spots to equal 56th) also made ground on this list, while USA's Nosthush Kenjige (up 10 rungs to 49th) and Sri Lanka spinner Dunith Wellalage (up 17 spots to 59th) were among the big movers on the ODI rankings for bowlers. There was also some movement on the latest Test player rankings, following the draw between the West Indies and South Africa in Trinidad, as per the ICC. South Africa captain Temba Bavuma finds a new career-high rating and improves two places to 16th on the list for Test batters following scores of 86 and 15* against the Caribbean side, while opener Tony de Zorzi gains 29 places to improve to 85th following an excellent 78 in the first innings of the ICC World Test Championship contest. Jason Holder (up three spots to 67th) and Alick Athanaze (up 12 places to 76th) were among the movers for Test batters from a West Indies perspective, while South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj was the biggest eye-catcher on the latest list for Test bowlers. Maharaj claimed four wickets in each inning on the way to Player of the Match honours and the left-armer improved seven spots to rise to equal 21st as a result. The West Indies will be pleased by the ongoing progress of spinner Jomel Warrican, who rises 12 spots to 54th and gains a new career-best rating following his six scalps for the match. Rohit Sharma set to take over from Babar Azam at top in ODI Batter Rankings

However, one of the heroes of India's T20 World Cup victory last month will take a break during the three-match ODI series, which is scheduled in August, due to "personal reasons". "Hardik Pandya was India's T2O vice-captain under Rohit Sharma. He is completely fit and available for the three-match T20I series and will lead the side," a senior BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity. Rohit retired from T20 Internationals at the end of the World Cup. The <keyword id="20224973" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="T20Is" source="keywords">T20Is</keyword> against Sri Lanka will run from July 27 to 30 in Pallekele, followed by the <keyword id="19919287" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ODIs" source="keywords">ODIs</keyword> from August 2 to 7 in Colombo. The squad for the series is expected to be announced in the next couple of days. While there is still no clarity on who would be Pandya's deputy, the toss-up is between Shubman Gill, who recently captained India to a 4-1 series win over Zimbabwe, and Suryakumar Yadav, who led the side during the T20Is against South Africa last year. About the ODIs, the official confirmed that Pandya has asked for leave and has already communicated this to regular skipper Rohit Sharma, who is also taking a break from this series. "The break from ODIs is for very personal reasons. Hardik doesn't have any fitness issue as is being floated in the media," the official said. Hardik Pandya to lead India in T20Is against Sri Lanka

"When selecting players for Test and ODI cricket, much of the discussion revolves around who is performing well in the Ranji Trophy, the one-day format and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy," he explained. While the IPL has undoubtedly contributed to the rise of several cricketing stars, it has also sparked debate about its impact on Indian cricket. However, Rohit clarified that both the IPL and domestic tournaments play vital roles. "The IPL has its own stature and presents different challenges, but it is all part of Indian cricket, and players excelling in any of these tournaments will eventually be recognized," he noted. Rohit also addressed India's poor batting display in the series particularly against the Sri Lankan spinners. He dismissed the notion that playing on turning tracks was an acceptable excuse for their failures. "Playing spin on slow pitches should not be an excuse. We all play on these kind of surfaces. Rohit Sharma emphasizes importance of domestic cricket after series defeat against Sri Lanka

Jay Shah confirms Team India's new head coach will join from Sri Lanka series

He asserted that Digital Public Infrastructure such as UPI has brought about changes in the smallest of villages in India, as the technology is convenient and fast. In 2023, a record 100 billion transactions valued at Rs 2 trillion were made via UPI, PM Modi said. "Digital Public Infrastructure has brought about a revolutionary change in India. Even the smallest businessman in our smallest village is making digital payments because it has convenience as well as speed," he said. UPI is India's mobile-based fast payment system, which facilitates customers to make round-the-clock payments instantly, using a Virtual Payment Address (VPA) created by the customer. UPI payment system has become hugely popular for retail digital payments in India, and its adoption is increasing at a rapid pace. A key emphasis of the Indian government has been on ensuring that the benefits of UPI are not limited to India only, but other countries, too, benefit from it. At the same time, the airline will focus more on consolidating on the domestic routes and will not be adding many destinations, while the international network may see some marginal increase, said the sources aware of the development. Air India Express currently operates 350 daily flights and has a fleet of 69 planes. It has some 1,300 pilots, including 400 of <keyword id="20436831" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="airasia-india" source="keywords">AirAsia India</keyword>, and another 400 on training. Air India Express will commence flights to Nepal, Bangladesh and <keyword id="19931726" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sri-lanka" source="keywords">Sri Lanka</keyword> during the forthcoming summer schedule, as per the sources. They also said that Air India Express will complete acquisition of its 50 white tail <keyword id="19915275" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="boeing" source="keywords">Boeing</keyword> 737 Max plane order by December this year, of which it has already inducted 13-14 planes. The sources also said the airline is expected to complete the merger of AirAsia India with it by the second quarter of the next fiscal. Air India Express is expecting all of AirAsia India's fleet to come on its air operator permit by July-August this year when the merger gets completed. As of now, it has three A320 neo planes of Airasia India fleet on its air operator permit.

Jasprit Bumrah has claimed 14 wickets while Kuldeep Yadav has led the spinners with 10 wickets while Ravindra Jadeja has bagged eight wickets so far. On the batting front, skipper Rohit Sharma has led from the front and is the leading run-scorer for India with 398 runs from six matches with one hundred and two fifties. Virat Kohli is not far behind with 354 runs from six innings, which includes one century and three fifties. But what has caught the eye is their contrasting style of batting in this event, while Rohit has hammer and tongs at the bowling from the start, Kohli has been played to the situation, been cautious and has played the finisher's role well. KL Rahul has contributed 216 runs, which includes a half-century. Other batters have failed to grab their opportunities and make some hefty contributions. It is this area that India needs to improve upon as they get into the business end of the tournament. While the team has had a great run so far, winning one more match and getting 14 points will guarantee them a place in the knockout stage. Of course, going into the knockout stage with an all-win record will be a huge morale booster, but securing the semifinal spot should be their priority. At the Wankhede Stadium, India have won 11 out of the 20 ODIs they have played so far, losing nine. Garuda Aerospace enters Sri Lankan market

Mumbai, India became the first team to qualify for the World Cup semifinals after beating Sri Lanka by a massive 302 runs here on Thursday. Mohammed Shami (5/18) and Mohammed Siraj (3/16) ran through the Sri Lanka batting line-up as the Islanders were bundled out for 55 in 19.4 overs while chasing 358. India first team to qualify for World Cup semifinals with 302-run win over Sri Lanka

The decision was approved by the Sri Lanka Cabinet, minister <keyword id="8316702" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ali-Sabry" source="Orion">Ali Sabry</keyword> said. The minister said that the pilot project that has begun with immediate efffect will continue till till March 31, 2024. Taking to X, Minister Sabry said, "Cabinet approves issuing of free visas to India, China, Russia, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia &amp; Thailand with immediate effect as a pilot project till 31 March." Last week, the Ministry of Tourism announced that a Cabinet Paper had been presented during the previous Cabinet meeting, proposing the issue of free tourist visas to foreigners from five countries who intend to visit Sri Lanka as tourists, The Daily Mirror reported.
