Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 1 (ANI): At the Indian Premier League (IPL) owners meet, which was organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), <keyword id="19907060" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Capitals" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Delhi Capitals" meta.hostid="83" meta.entityid="Delhi Capitals">Delhi Capitals</keyword> (DC) was against the <keyword id="21099854" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Impact-Player-rule" source="keywords">impact player rule</keyword> while <keyword id="1494441" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sunrisers-Hyderabad" source="Orion">Sunrisers Hyderabad</keyword> was (SRH) in favour of seven retentions, according to ESPNcricinfo. BCCI organised the meeting with the owners of the ten franchises to discuss various points concerning retentions for the upcoming <keyword id="19701758" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IPL-2025" source="Orion">IPL 2025</keyword> season. According to the report, the frequency of the mega auctions and the auction purse were among the other points discussed. After the meeting, the Delhi-based franchise co-owner Parth Jindal said that some teams want the impact player rule because it gives a chance to the young players to play in the T20 tournament. "Some people want it because it gives a chance to young players to play in the IPL. Some people don't want it because it is detrimental to Indian cricket in terms of the development of allrounders. So it's a mixed bag. I'm on the second camp. I don't want it. I prefer the game as it is 11 versus 11, and I think allrounders are very important. And you have different players who don't bowl in the IPL or don't bat in the IPL because of this rule, which is not good for Indian cricket," Jindal was quoted by ESPNcricinfo as saying. The report stated that Sunrisers Hyderabad owner Kavya Maran suggested that "players could be secured via a plain retention process or a combination of retention and RTM at the auction or all exclusively via the right-to-match (RTM) card." As per the reports, the IPL 2024 winner Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) asked BCCI that eight players should be bought back exclusively via the RTM method. The co-owner of Delhi Capitals added that he was 'surprised' to see that few franchises were against the <keyword id="21154992" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mega-auction" source="keywords">mega auction</keyword>. "I was surprised. There was a debate. Some people said that there should not be a mega auction at all. There should be only smaller auctions. I'm not in that camp. I feel that I feel that it evens the playing field and it's very good for everyone. It makes the IPL what it is. It makes it competitive. It makes it an even playing field," Jindal added. BCCI secretary Jay Shah, co-owner of Punjab Kings Ness Wadia, and Kolkata Knight Riders owner <keyword id="19895142" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shah-Rukh-Khan" source="keywords">Shah Rukh Khan</keyword> were spotted after the meeting. After the conclusion of the meeting, Wadia didn't spill the beans on the discussion that took place during the meeting but stated that the overall discussion was good and that whatever outcome comes will be in the best interest of everyone. "It was a good meeting. Happy to be having a discussion with the BCCI, and I think whatever will be done will be in the best interest of everyone, the fans, cricketers and stakeholders. Maybe the outcome will come in the next two weeks, maybe less or maybe more," Wadia told reporters.

An IPL between September and early November has been made possible by the ICC's decision on Monday to postpone the T20 World Cup in Australia, scheduled for October-November, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "The IPL GC will meet within a week or 10 days and all decisions (including final schedule) will be taken there. As of now, the plan is to have a full fledged IPL comprising 60 games and most likely in the UAE," Patel told PTI. Asked about the main challenges in conducting the event in current scenario, Patel added: "Just the operational side of it. Whether you do it here or outside, it doesn't matter (with no crowds)." The franchisees had already been working on their plans for the IPL even before the ICC announcement. With majority of the Indian players not having access to grounds amid the pandemic, teams will need at least three to four weeks to get them match ready. Foreign players will fly in directly to the UAE from their respective countries. "Our players will need at least three to four weeks of training, if not more. We will finalise all our plans once the BCCI announces the dates. It looks like the IPL will be in the UAE and we are ready for that," a team owner told PTI. Since India tour Australia for a four-Test series right after the IPL, training of the Test players is also an important issue. Test specialists like Cheteshwar Pujara and Hanuma Vihari, who are not part of the IPL, are likely to train for the eagerly-awaited series in a bio-secure environment at the newly-renovated Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad during the time of the IPL. A few fringe players are expected to join them at Motera along with the Indian team's support staff, which is free during the IPL. Work from home has become the norm amid the pandemic, therefore, there is a possibility that IPL commentary will happen from the comfort of the living room, a safer and cost effective-option considering the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, who is 71, are involved. The viewership is expected to be a record one with people craving for live cricket, something KXIP co-owner Ness Wadia has said. However, it remains to be seen how much the broadcasters and teams are able to attract from the sponsors in the current financial climate. More moot points and questions ahead of the IPL GC meeting: 1) More double headers expected (original schedule had only five double headers). 2) BCCI will need to provide a Standard Operating Procedure to IPL teams even though they will have their own SOPs in place. 4) Will the BCCI compensate teams for not being able to generate gate money this year? 7) Will there be virtual commentary from Star Sports? UAE might host Indian Premier League this year in September

The <keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword> today decided against terminating the suspended IPL franchises of <keyword id="13886" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Chennai-Super-Kings">Chennai Super Kings</keyword> and <keyword id="13802" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Rajasthan-Royals">Rajasthan Royals</keyword>, putting an end to the speculation surrounding their fate and ensuring their comeback in the cash-rich league in 2018. 
 
At its working committee meeting, the Board decided that it would go with the Supreme Court-appointed Justice R M Lodha committee's recommendation of suspending the two teams for two years, making the next two IPLs an eight-team affair. 
 
However, the BCCI did not clarify whether IPL will be a 10-team affair from 2018, when CSK and RR will come back to the fold. 
 
"The decision whether it will be a 10-team affair from 2018 will only be taken at the AGM where the other major decisions including bilateral series with Pakistan will be discussed," a senior BCCI office-bearer told PTI. 
 
Among other important decisions taken at today's meeting, the Board has scheduled its Annual General Meeting for November 9. 
 
The BCCI said it will invite fresh bids for two new teams, which will be competing from 2016 onwards to complete the eight-team format in the absence of CSK and RR. 
 
The Working Committee's decision was strictly in lines with the suggestions of the IPL Working Group, which comprised of IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla, secretary Anurag Thakur, former India captain Sourav Ganguly and treasurer Aniruddh Chaudhary. 
 
"The Justice Lodha committee interim report will be implemented fully The two franchisee teams, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals remain suspended for two years. BCCI will float tenders and invite bids for two new teams to replace CSK &amp; RR in the Indian Premier League for 2016 and 2017 (2 years)." 
 
Majority of the BCCI members were not too keen on termination of the two IPL franchises, which were involved in the spot-fixing scandal in 2013. 
 
The BCCI top brass has always maintained that it would implement Lodha Committee's recommendations in total and since the Supreme Court appointed committee had suspended for two years, the Working group also stuck by it. 
 The decision was also in consonance with president <keyword id="6379537" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Shashank-Manohar">Shashank Manohar</keyword>'s statement that BCCI won't be vindictive towards any of its state units.

BCCI won't terminate Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals; to invite tenders for new teams

Indian cricket board will take a decision on holding remaining <keyword id="6354831" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-premier-league">Indian Premier League</keyword> (<keyword id="6354312" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword>) 2021 matches at special general meeting on May 29, in which entire domestic cricket schedule for 2021-22 will be discussed. "As of now, nothing has been finalised (regarding IPL)," a top <keyword id="6354756" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="bcci">BCCI</keyword> office-bearer told <keyword id="105681" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IANS">IANS</keyword>. The franchises too haven't got any intimation though they have been told that they will get to know only after May 29. "There is nothing concrete yet. But we are aware that the Board is likely decide the matter on May 29 and may convey to us after that," a franchise official told IANS. There are 31 matches remaining in IPL 2021 which was postponed, after completion of 29 matches, due to Covid-19 cases in the bio-secure environment. Although there has been no official intimation from the <keyword id="82275" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Board-of-Control-for-Cricket">Board of Control for Cricket</keyword> in India (BCCI), UAE, where IPL 2020 edition was also held, appears to be the most likely venue to hold the remainder of IPL. The window being discussed is the month-long gap between the end of India's Test series in England on September 14 and start of the T20 World Cup in mid-October. The T20 World Cup could also be held in UAE in the wake of rise of Covid-19 cases in India. Jay Shah, secretary of BCCI, had earlier issued a note to state associations, calling them for a special general meeting. "Notice is hereby given for a Special General Meeting of the BCCI which will be held on May 29, 2021 virtually to transact the following business: Discussion on the upcoming cricket season in view of the pandemic situation prevailing in India," BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a note addressed to the state cricket associations. BCCI to take decision on holding remaining IPL matches on May 29

Mobile company <keyword id="215177" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Vivo">Vivo</keyword> today replaced <keyword id="54572" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="PepsiCo">PepsiCo</keyword> as the title sponsor of the high-profile Indian Premier League, a change necessitated by the beverage giant's sudden pullout from a five-year deal that was to end in 2017. 
 "The <keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword> title sponsorship right has been assigned to M/S Vivo mobiles. Vivo is to give the Bank Guarantee in next ten days," the <keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword> said in a statement announcing decisions taken at its all-powerful working committee meeting. 
 
PepsiCo's decision to end its deal with IPL was reportedly caused by the spot-fixing scandal which shook the game in 2013. 
 
Although the company did not come on record to specify the reasons but it was reported that PepsiCo felt the spot- fixing scandal had brought the IPL in disrepute. 
 
In the 2013 season of the IPL, Ankeet Chavan, Ajit Chandila and S Sreesanth were arrested over charges of spot- fixing. This was followed by allegations that Chennai Super Kings team principle Gurunath Meiyappan, and Raj Kundra, co- owner of Rajasthan Royals, were involved in betting. 
 
The BCCI banned the three cricketers for life and the Supreme Court appointed the Justice Mudgal committee to investigate the scandal. 
 
The Supreme Court appointed the Justice RM Lodha panel and the quantum of punishment was decided, with CSK and Rajasthan Royals banned from the tournament for two years. Meiyappan and Kundra, on the other hand, were banned for life. 
 Among other decisions taken at today's meeting, <keyword id="69300" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="nike">Nike</keyword> was retained as the apparel sponsor of the Indian cricket team.

"IPL, in all likelihood, will start on September 19 (Saturday) and the final will be held on November 8 (Sunday). It is a 51-day window which will suit the franchises as well as the broadcasters and other stakeholders," a senior BCCI official told on conditions of anonymity on Thursday night. The IPL has been made possible by the ICC's decision to postpone the October-November T20 World Cup in Australia owing to the COVID-19 pandemic due to which the host country expressed its inability to conduct the event. While there was speculation that the IPL will start from September 26, the BCCI decided to advance it by a week in order to ensure that the Indian team's tour of Australia is not jeopardised. "The Indian team will have a mandatory quarantine of 14 days as per the Australian government rules. A delay would have sent the plans haywire," the official said. "The best part is that 51 days is not at all a curtailed period and there will be much less double headers. We could stick to original five double headers in seven week window," he added. The Indians are set to play a four-match Test series against Australia starting December 3 in Brisbane. It is expected that with each and every team needing at least a month's time to train, the IPL franchises will be leaving base by August 20 which gives them exactly four weeks time to prepare. The cash-rich event was originally scheduled to start at the end of March but the COVID-19 pandemic and the travel restrictions that were put in place to contain the virus, led to an indefinite postponement. However, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly maintained that the event will be held some time this year. IPL 2020 will start on September 20 and the final will be held on November 8

Nair's base price was Rs 50 lakh but he went unsold during the IPL 2024 auction. In the 2023 season, Nair was a part of the Rajasthan-based franchise. The 32-year-old appeared in 76 IPL matches and scored 1496 runs in the extravagant T20 tournament. Australian batter Steven Smith went unsold in the IPL 2024 auction. Smith had a base price of Rs 2 crores but no franchises made a bid for the 34-year-old. Smith played his last IPL game in 2021, following that he has not been a part of any franchise. The Aussie played 103 matches in the IPL, where he scored 2485 runs. Meanwhile, the Indian batter Manish also went unsold in the first round of IPL 2024. Manish's base price was Rs 50 lakh. In the 2023 IPL season, Manish played for the Delhi-based franchise. Manish played 170 IPL matches in his career, in which he scored 3808 runs with a strike rate of 120.97. The country is facing a serious pandemic,” a BCCI official told PTI. The official added that the South African team will soon leave for their home. “The South African team will come to Delhi and leave by taking the earliest available flight,” the official added. India-South Africa series cancelled due to coronavirus threat

<keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword>’s crucial Working Committee meeting was adjourned by President Jagmohan Dalmiya after witnessing high drama over the presence of its former chief N Srinivasan. "The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Working Committee meeting was adjourned sine die after deciding to seek the opinion of the Hon'ble Supreme Court whether Mr. <keyword id="151653" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="N-Srinivasan">N. Srinivasan</keyword> could attend the meetings of the BCCI as the authorised representative of Tamil Nadu Cricket Association," BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur said in a brief statement. The working committee was to discuss the report of the four-member working group on the roadmap for conducting the <keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword> in the wake of the two-year suspension of two franchises -- Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals -- by the Supreme Court-appointed Justice RM Lodha committee. 

	The meeting was postponed as the members argued over the presence of Srinivasan, who was earlier barred by the Supreme Court from contesting the BCCI President's post following the IPL spot-fixing scandal. 
 

	In his defence, Srinivasan, who attended the meeting as President of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, placed Justice Sri Krishna's opinion which said he was entitled to attend the meeting, an official who attended the meeting said. 
 

	But some BCCI members countered that argument and claimed that the Supreme Court had made it clear that he should stay away from BCCI meetings. 
 

	"Since there was no clarity on the legal status of Mr Srinivsan, President adjourned the meeting after the BCCI legal adviser Ushanath Banerjee also said that he was not sure about Srinivasan's legal standing as of now," the official said. 
 

	The official said that Srinivasan was specifically told not to attend the meeting and among those who tried to dissuade him were IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla and BCCI Treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary. However, the Chennai strongman did not give in and attended the meeting. 
 

	Srinivasan tried explaining his stance to the BCCI members by insisting that there was no conflict of interest in his position as an administrator and as owner of Indian Cements -- the company which owned CSK. 
 

	The BCCI, it is learnt, has decided to call an emergency working committee meeting in the first week of September to finalise the date of its Annual General Meeting, which is likely to be held in Kolkata on September 27. 
 

	Today, the working committee was to discuss the Justice Lodha Committee report and the subsequent recommendations of the Working Group. 
 

	The meeting was also set to deliberate on the the Madras High Court order directing the BCCI, India Cements and others involved to submit their counter affidavits to the petition which has been filed by CSK Ltd. 
 

	The High Court has directed the parties to file their written submissions within a certain time period and the next hearing has been scheduled for September 23. 
 

	The two-time champions CSK had moved the Madras HC challenging the suspension. The first bench of the High Court had found the petition maintainable and issued notice to the Board of Control for Cricket in India. 
 

	Other key points on the agenda were the NCA committee recommendations on whether to keep the apex academy in Bangalore, discuss affiliation status of Chattisgarh, Bihar and Manipur and the technical committee recommendation among others. 
 

	Appointment of India's next coach was not on the agenda but the working committee was to ask the Cricket Advisory Committee, comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman to finalise the name.

A closed-door IPL seems like a real possibility now but even a postponement cannot be ruled out given that 60-odd overseas recruits won't be available to ply their trade, at least in the intial stages of the event starting March 29 in Mumbai. "The foreign players who play in the IPL come under the Business Visa category. As per the government's directive, they can't come till April 15," a BCCI source told on conditions of anonymity. The fate of the IPL itself will be decided on March 14 at the event's Governing Council meeting in Mumbai. "All decisions will be taken by the GC in Mumbai," the source said. The government issued a fresh advisory with a ban on all existing foreign visas, except a few categories like diplomatic and employment, till April 15 in the wake of new positive cases of novel coronavirus in the country. India has reported 60 positive cases in the outbreak which has led to over 4,000 deaths globally. The "Details of Visas Granted by India" manual of the Ministry of Home Affairs states: "Foreign nationals who are engaged in commercial sports events in India on contract (including coaches) like <keyword id="6354831" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-premier-league">Indian Premier League</keyword>, Indian Soccer League, etc. with remuneration. "They may be granted 'B-Sports' Visa with multiple entry facility for 13 appropriate period. Such a foreign national shall comply with all the statutory obligations like payment of taxes, etc." The BCCI source said that the government's directive doesn't specifically exempt those with Business Visas. "There is a clear distinction between employment Visa which has been granted exemption and the business visa. So it's better we dont take the risk." Having the IPL played in empty stadiums is an option being explored but without foreign players, it will certainly lack the zing which makes it the most successful T20 event in the world. "The Future Tours Program is such that if the IPL is postponed, most of the marquee foreign players might not be available as after this April-May, there isn't any window available. All other teams have bilateral commitments. At best, we can have it closed doors," the source said. The <keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword> Governing Council members will soon be meeting to discuss the implications and the road ahead after the verdict by the <keyword id="2803450" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Lodha-Committee">Lodha committee</keyword> banning Chennai Super Kings and <keyword id="13802" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rajasthan-Royals">Rajasthan Royals</keyword> for two yeras from the IPL besides imposing life suspensions on their tainted officials <keyword id="1682587" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gurunath-Meiyappan">Gurunath Meiyappan</keyword> and <keyword id="18641" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Raj-Kundra">Raj Kundra</keyword>. "We were having some informal discussions once the verdict was announced. An emergent meeting is on the cards where the members will be apprised of the situation and the road ahead will be only chalked out after our legal team goes through entire contents of the copy of the verdict," a senior <keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword> functionary and IPL Governing Council member member told PTI today. However, the three primary points that have emerged from the discussions between the senior functionaries are that of whether new companies will be allowed to bid for two vacant slots, whether all players or only the <keyword id="122828" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="CSK">CSK</keyword> and RR players will be going into auctions and also the case of the de-merger of the CSK from its parent company India Cements Limited. 

	"Since during our last GC meeting, we have forwarded the matter of CSK's de-merger and share valuation issue to the Working Committee, who will be taking legal opinion, we have to wait for it. Now current owners of CSK and Royals may be in a mood to sell their franchises to new owners but there are a few problems," another GC member explained the current situation.
 

	"The moment CSK or RR is sold off in its current state to a new owner, the existing legal liabilities will then be burden of the new owner. Plus both franchises have lost goodwill. In this existing scenario can they be sold off or new buyers will be interested?" he questioned.
 

	"Since Lodha committee has stated that the BCCI needs to look at it, we must be very careful about it and also keep the legal implications in mind," he said.
 

	The last crucial point is the case of new bids being invited by the BCCI to again make it an eight-team league but the case of Players' Auction is then closely related to the issue.
 

	"There are two options related to this matter. The BCCI invites tender for fresh bidding of two new IPL franchises. Since around 45-odd players from these two franchises will become free due to the verdict, a mini-auction is held and the two new franchises are allowed to pick from the existing pool of players.
 

	"But then the new owners might oppose the idea of getting to select players from a restricted pool. In that case, it needs to be decided whether a fresh auction may be called having all the players from all the teams back in the auction pool," said the source.
 

	A fresh auction was supposed to be held before the 2017 IPL but current situation may drive BCCI to have one before the scheduled time.
 The other aspect will be Srinivasan's fate as <keyword id="2949656" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="BCCI-representative">BCCI representative</keyword> in ICC. While the issue is supposed to come up in September, the verdict will certainly make BCCI mandarins have a rethink on having him as their representative.

Franchise owners want to play games behind closed doors Even when the IPL 2020 begins on April 15, its matches may still have to be played only for TV without live audience. 	The official said that the Board could possibly explore two options to ensure that the IPL remains an eight-team event. 
 

	"The BCCI can run the two teams for two years and the original owners can come back after the ban period is over. The other option is to invite fresh bids for two new teams since many corporates have expressed an interest in buying an IPL team," he said. 
 

	The problem that BCCI might face if it invites bids for two new teams is that it could increase the number of teams to 10 after CSK and RR complete their ban period. Drawing up a home and away basis schedule for 10 teams could drag the league well beyond its stipulated window of about six weeks. 
 

	There are few members of the BCCI who are keen to invite fresh bids since it will generate more money for the league. 
 

	BCCI running two teams may not be economically viable since the entire cost of managing the team and playing the players their salaries will have to be borne by the Board.

Bengaluru, <keyword id="6354312" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ipl" source="Orion">IPL</keyword> chairman <keyword id="1010745" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="arun-dhumal" source="Orion">Arun Dhumal</keyword> believes that the media rights value of the league has the potential to touch a staggering USD 50 million over the next two decades, provided it keeps innovating and improvising with fans' interests in mind. The current media rights value of the league stands at USD 6.2 billion (approx Rs 48000 crore) for a five-year period starting from 2022. Even by this estimate, IPL is the second-most high-valued league after the National Football League (<keyword id="103436" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="nfl" source="Orion">NFL</keyword>), as the American sporting entity struck a USD 110 billion media deal for an 11-year period starting from last year. "If I have to see how it has gone over the last 15 years and if I have to go by estimates going forward, we are expecting media rights (of the IPL) to go somewhere close to USD 50 billion by around 2043," said Dhumal while speaking at the RCB Innovation Lab's Leaders Meet India here. Dhumal, who is also a former <keyword id="6354756" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bcci" source="Orion">BCCI</keyword> treasurer, also pinned his hopes for a financial windfall on the advent of the Women's Premier League (<keyword id="3796649" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="wpl" source="Orion">WPL</keyword>) and cricket's inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. "We need to keep innovating, keep doing better in terms of fan engagement, and keep making it better in terms of the quality of games," he said. "Now that cricket is becoming part of the Olympics and with the WPL taking it to a different level for women's cricket, I see a lot of hope and light at the end of the tunnel," said Dhumal. The media rights value of the IPL has grown exponentially in the last decade and half from the Rs 6000 crore in 2008, going past several other major sporting leagues across the world. Dhumal dissected the growth and ever-swelling popularity of the IPL. "IPL is the most-watched cricket league in the world. Personally, I feel IPL is the best Make in India brand we can think of post-Independence. "We are a very diverse country in terms of states, cultures and languages being spoken.
