Mumbai, As the <keyword id="444236" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-equity-market">Indian equity market</keyword> bucked the pandemic-induced slowdown and surged to new highs in the <keyword id="426914" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="current-financial-year">current financial year</keyword>, an <keyword id="7442614" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ICICI-Securities-report">ICICI Securities report</keyword> said that 24 stocks have contributed over 75 per cent to the movement of <keyword id="1435368" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE-100-index">BSE-100 index</keyword>. The report noted that although the bulk of the equity market performance since <keyword id="2259305" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="FY17">FY17</keyword> has been driven by a handful of stocks while the broader indices have underperformed, significantly, the recent rally is becoming broad-based for the first time since FY17. "The tide is turning in terms of the number of stocks contributing to majority of the Index performance (&gt;75 per cent of BSE 100 index movement) at 24 stocks, which is the highest over the past four years," it said. Small-cap and mid-cap indices have also outperformed large-caps for the first time since FY17. The report noted that anatomy of FY21 market rally indicates four <keyword id="10404818" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="distinct-phases">distinct phases</keyword> where high level of sector and style rotation has been observed. Activity in Phases II and IV indicates that the rally is becoming broad-based, it added. Market rally widens, 24 stocks underpin most of BSE-100's FY21 performance

New Delhi, Brokerage house <keyword id="46909" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ICICI-Securities" source="Orion">ICICI Securities</keyword> on Friday reported a one per cent decline in profit after tax (PAT) at Rs 271 crore for three months ended June 2023. In comparison, the company reported a PAT of Rs 273.6 crore in the year-ago period, ICICI Securities said in a regulatory filing. The decline in the profit could be attributed to higher expenses, as the broking firm's total expenses shot up by 33 per cent to Rs 570 crore in the quarter under review. However, the company's total revenues rose by 18 per cent to Rs 934 crore in the first quarter under review, from Rs 795 crore in the April-June quarter of financial year 2022-23. During the quarter under review, the company added 2.1 lakh clients, taking its overall customer base to 93 lakh. Last month, ICICI Bank approved a proposal to delist ICICI Securities and become a wholly-owned subsidiary of the bank after delisting. ICICI Securities, promoted by ICICI Bank, is the country's leading retail-led equity franchise, distributor of financial products and investment bank. The company began its operation in May 1995 and continues to grow its operation through expanding its client base and providing different types of services.

The financial services firm's revenue rose 13 per cent to Rs 482 crore in the quarter under review from Rs 428 crore in the year-ago period, supported by growth in retail equities and allied business. During the trading session, it jumped nearly 14 per cent after the company reported a 28 per cent rise in profit after tax for the March quarter.The scrip, which zoomed 13.80 per cent to Rs 429 during the day on the BSE, later eroded its gains and closed at Rs 357.80, down 5.08 per cent.On the NSE, shares of the company fell 4.85 per cent to close at Rs 359.60. ICICI Securities' shares shed early gains; close 5 pc lower

As many as seven brokerage houses and investment firms have given a "buy" call for <keyword id="6391710" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="aditya-birla-capital" source="Orion">Aditya Birla Capital</keyword> shares as the financial services provider recently reported a healthy earnings in Q4 and for the entire fiscal. They are Motilal Oswal, <keyword id="48085" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="credit-suisse" source="Orion">Credit Suisse</keyword>, <keyword id="103838" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="hdfc-securities" source="Orion">HDFC Securities</keyword>, ICICI Securities, <keyword id="14017217" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="investes" source="Orion">Investes</keyword>, and <keyword id="48670" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="morgan-stanley" source="Orion">Morgan Stanley</keyword>, and their target price falls in the range of Rs 130 to Rs 169. ICICI Securities pegged the highest at Rs 169, whereas Credit Suisse the lowest at Rs 130. It posted a rise of 20 per cent in its consolidated profit after tax at Rs 450 crore Q4, whereas the consolidated revenue rose 18 per cent year on year to Rs 6,962 crore. For the entire financial year FY22, the consolidated revenue rose 16 per cent to Rs 23,633 crore, whereas profit after tax rose 51 per cent to Rs 1,706 crore, which is reportedly the highest ever recorded by the company. "With the worst on asset quality behind it, the coming years will see an uptick in its growth and margin profile, lower credit costs, and better return ratios," Motilal Oswal said, adding that the asset management business is likely to churn out better profitability, driven by an improvement in revenue as well as cost rationalization. Further, brokerage house ICICI Securities believes that franchise investment, cross-sell or up-sell and leveraging digital and analytics will likely help the company boost its RoE (return on equity) profile. Looking at the FY22 performance, Investec opined that the company has mitigated Covid-19 impact and is well positioned to deliver strong earnings growth over next three years.

 An urban consumer in India spends 20.3% of the monthly spend on milk and milk products, according to a survey by the National Sample Survey Organisation released in 2012. Milk is a staple and there is big money to be made in the segment. And yet, dairy companies spend only 1-2% of sales on advertisements, compared to online marketplace Flipkart, which <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/services/advertising/at-30-of-annual-revenues-flipkart-spends-thrice-as-much-on-ads-as-hul/articleshow/66611156.cms">reportedly</a> spends over 30% of its revenue. While Hindustan Unilever spends about 10% of its sales. “An effective advertisement of soap can win new consumers and additional revenues of ₹20 per new consumer per month whereas an advertisement of dairy brand can win revenues of ₹1,000 per new consumer per month,” an <keyword id="7442614" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ICICI-Securities-report">ICICI Securities report</keyword> explained. This would also explain why dairy companies do not offer any freebies to consumers and any discounts to distributors are negligible. However, on the down side, the same stickiness in consumer preference also makes it difficult for new entrants to capture customers from established players. The good news is a lot of people are yet to move from buying milk from unorganised neighborhood vendors to picking up branded milk and related products off the shelves. The Indian dairy sector is expected to grow at about 15% compounded annual growth rate, according to ICICI Securities, and there is possibility of steady shift of consumers from unorganised sector to organised sector. The fact that this growth does not need high promotional expenses is an added advantage for newer companies.

The stock of BSE rose 9% in trade today after the report. Nithin Kamath, co-founder of <keyword id="759851" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zerodha">Zerodha</keyword>, one of the biggest online stock trading platforms in India, wrote on Twitter that DMA has always been available for institutions, but through a broker. “Can this be offered to retail without a broker? Yeah, but retail investors use a broker for the platform (UI, UX, different order types, reporting, etc) on which they trade, DMA is not suitable. The biggest task for a broker is handling customer queries, complaints, etc. The industry has tens of thousands of employees for this. Can exchanges take over this and also act as a regulator to regulate itself when it comes to customer grievances? Maybe not,” he wrote.
