(HPCL) gained over four per cent to Rs 187.10 (at 2.30 p.m.) on the BSE on Friday after the company announced that it will consider a proposal to buyback shares at its <keyword id="9589025" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="next-board-meeting">next board meeting</keyword> on November 4. The HPCL board was to meet on November 4 to consider and approve the financial results of the company for the second quarter and half year period ending September 30 earlier. "We now wish to inform you that in the aforesaid board meeting, the board will also consider a proposal to buyback the fully paid equity shares of face value of Rs 10 each of the company", BPCL said in exchange filing on Thursday after market hours. The decision to buyback shares gave momentum to HPCL shares in trade on Friday. In fact, the company's shares have gained 20 per cent in the last three months even though the gains for S&amp;P BSE Sensex during the period has been just five per cent. With the correction in HPCL stock, minority shareholders could hope to get rewarded on the proposed buy back. The performance of the buyback would, however, be determined on the basis of how attractive the pricing is, brokerages have said. <keyword id="6356109" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="diesel">Diesel</keyword> prices may go up by 80 paise a litre from today (May 13) as the <keyword id="40807" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Election-Commission">Election Commission</keyword> (EC) has turned down the Oil Ministry's proposal to put on hold the Cabinet’s decision to increase its rate in “small monthly doses” because the revenue losses on diesel had dropped below Rs 6 a litre two months ago, according to government officials. 
 
At present, the revenue loss on the fuel is Rs 6.80 a litre and it is for the Oil Ministry to take a decision, an EC official said. 
 
"With the proposed 80 paise hike, revenue loss on diesel is expected to be around Rs 5 per litre from May 16," a government source said. 
The hike will also cover backlog as it was delayed due to the recently concluded polls, government officials said. The fuel price would increase drastically as the companies were not allowed to increase diesel prices for the past two months. 
 
The government had allowed oil companies to increase diesel rates by 50 paise every month until their revenue losses are neutralised. <keyword id="6356834" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-Oil-Corporation">Indian Oil Corporation</keyword> (IOC), <keyword id="156368" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bharat-Petroleum-Corporation">Bharat Petroleum Corporation</keyword> (BPCL) and <keyword id="156363" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hindustan-Petroleum-Corporation">Hindustan Petroleum Corporation</keyword> (HPCL) frequently exercised their limited pricing freedom with the prior approval from the government. "There was an exception in April-May last year during the assembly elections in Karnataka. As a result, oil companies had to raise diesel rates by about Re 1 per litre after the polls," an HPCL executive said.

Vadodara, Feb 27 () Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) has set up its first electric vehicle charging facility in Gujarat at Karelibag locality here. After inaugurating the facility on Thursday, HPCL Director (Marketing) Rakesh Misri told that it is the first charging station set up by HPCL in Gujarat. Hindustan Petroleum will plan, develop and install EV charging facilities at suitable locations throughout the country. The EV stops will be equipped to charge two, three, and four-wheeler vehicles. With the installation of public charging stations, the range anxiety of EV owners is expected to reduce, which will increase the adoption of electric mobility. Increased access to charging infrastructure is vital for the uptake of electric mobility across the entire EV ecosystem Misri said. HPCL will also establish more visibility of charging infrastructure, sending a signal to the general public that India's electric mobility vision is being realised in full potential said Misri. The export of <keyword id="6367091" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="petrol" source="Orion">petrol</keyword> by Indian oil marketing companies (<keyword id="88586" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="OMCs" source="Orion">OMCs</keyword>) rose 142% in a year between 2020-21 and 2021-22, while there was a minuscule rise of less than 1% in the export of diesel during the same period. According to official figures, the OMCs exported 668 thousand metric tonnes (TMT) of petrol in 2021-22, which was 142% more than 276 TMT of petrol exported by the country in 2020-21. In 2020-21, the OMCs exported 1,985 TMT of diesel, while in 2021-22, it exported 1,994 TMT of diesel, a growth of less than 1% over the previous year. Petrol export by OMCs rose 142% between 2020-21 and 2021-22

New Delhi, Mar 31 () Shares of oil marketing companies, led by Bharat Petroleum, on Tuesday zoomed up to 15 per cent owing to a fall in crude prices. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) advanced 15.07 per cent to Rs 316.05, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) jumped 13.12 per cent to Rs 190.15 and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) gained 6.66 per cent to close at Rs 81.65 on the BSE. "Today (on Tuesday), share price of BPCL and HPCL are up owing to fall in crude prices to near 18-year low (crude oil price slipped below USD 20 per bbl). Fall in crude prices leads to an increase in net marketing margins of BPCL, HPCL, and IOCL," Yogesh Patil, research analyst, Reliance Securities, said. The BSE's oil and gas index was the top gainer in the deck, rising 8.72 per cent. Meanwhile, in the equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex closed in the positive territory, ending 1,028.17 points or 3.62 per cent higher at 29,468.49. SUM HRS

Oil marketing companies gain; BPCL rises 15 pc

New Delhi, Dec 6 () Shares of oil and gas companies fell on Friday amid reports that OPEC and other major producers are looking to finalise a deal to cut production.
 Oil and Natural Gas Corporation's shares fell 1.71 per cent to Rs 126.60 per unit on the BSE and 1.86 per cent to Rs 126.50 on the NSE.
 Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) saw its stock decline by 1.09 per cent to Rs 263.05 a unit on the BSE and 0.71 per cent on the NSE to Rs 264.
 Shares of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) were down by 1.39 per cent to Rs 124.25 apiece on the BSE and 1.23 per cent on the NSE to Rs 124.40.
 Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) scrip slipped 0.65 per cent to Rs 488.30 on the BSE and 0.59 per cent on the NSE to Rs 488.95.
 Shares of Petronet LNG saw a dip of 1.47 per cent to Rs 268.10 on the BSE and 1.61 per cent on the NSE to Rs 268.05.
 According to reports, OPEC and Russia along with other producers were attempting Friday to finalize a deal to cut production in an attempt to support the price of fuel and energy around the world. RUJ SHW

Oil companies' shares fall on OPEC output cut buzz

Share prices of the oil marketing companies (OMC) dropped on Tuesday with the scrip of privatisation-bound <keyword id="155363" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharat-Petroleum-Corporation-Ltd">Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd</keyword> (<keyword id="44555" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="BPCL">BPCL</keyword>) falling over 5 per cent. At 2.16 p.m., BPCL shares on the BSE were trading at ₹441.05, lower by ₹25.95 or 5.56 per cent from its previous close. Its shares fell amid reports of the company selling 4 per cent of treasury shares worth ₹3,774 crore in a bulk deal. Shares of other OMCs also declined on Tuesday with stocks of <keyword id="458519" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Oil-Corporation-ltd">Indian Oil Corporation Ltd</keyword> (<keyword id="181809" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="IOCL">IOCL</keyword>) trading 3.67 per cent lower at ₹99.75 per share. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation's (<keyword id="6362419" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="hpcl">HPCL</keyword>) shares were trading at ₹234.60, lower by 3.62 per cent from its previous close. Further, revenues of OMCs are likely to remain under pressure for some time now as official sources indicated that with fuel price rise becoming an election issue, the Centre would not like to further escalate the matter with more increases in the auto fuel prices required in the wake of firming of prices in the global oil market. The halt in retail price hikes, at a time when crude oil prices are surging would put immense pressure on the margins of the oil marketing companies, experts said. The May delivery contract of Brent crude on the Intercontinental Exchange is currently trading above $68 per barrel. Bharat Petroleum plunge 5% amid reports of the company selling 4% of treasury shares

A day after India's sovereign rating downgraded, Moody's Investors Service on Tuesday cut ratings of eight non-financial companies, including <keyword id="6354512" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword>, <keyword id="6357150" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tcs">TCS</keyword>, ONGC, and three banks SBI, HDFC Bank and EXIM. It also downgraded seven Indian infrastructure issuers, including NTPC, NHAI, GAIL and Adani Green Energy Restricted Group, by one notch. Issuer ratings of IRFC and HUDCO have also been lowered. Moody's said the economic disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the downgrade of the sovereign rating are the key drivers for Tuesday's rating actions. On Monday, Moody's had downgraded India's sovereign rating for the first time in 22 years by a notch to 'Baa3', which is the lowest investment grade -- just a notch above junk status. Accordingly, the long-term issuer ratings of eight non-financial companies -- Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Oil India Ltd, <keyword id="6356834" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-oil-corporation">Indian Oil Corporation</keyword> Ltd, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Petronet LNG, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys -- have been downgraded. The outlooks on all these ratings are negative. However, Moody's affirmed the issuer rating of Reliance Industries but revised the outlook to negative from stable. With regard to ratings of banks, Moody's has downgraded the long-term local and foreign currency deposit ratings of HDFC Bank and SBI to Baa3 from Baa2, and the long-term issuer rating of EXIM India to Baa3 from Baa2, with negative outlook. The deposit ratings of these banks are at the same level as India's Baa3 sovereign rating. Consequently, Moody's has downgraded HDFC Bank's baseline credit assessment (BCA) to baa3 from baa2. Moody's has placed the Baa3 long-term local and foreign currency deposit ratings of <keyword id="6358007" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="bank-of-baroda">Bank of Baroda</keyword>, Bank of India, <keyword id="6357132" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Canara-Bank">Canara Bank</keyword> and <keyword id="63524" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-Bank-of-India">Union Bank of India</keyword> and their BCAs under review for downgrade. New Delhi, Jan 16 () Indian Oil Corp (IOC), the country's biggest oil firm, will decide on bidding to buy Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) after the government lists out rules for the stake sale, its Chairman Sanjiv Singh said Thursday.
 The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs had on November 21, 2019 decided to sell government's entire 53.29 per cent stake in country's second-largest state refiner BPCL, but a tender for sale hasn't yet been issued.
 "The expression of interest (EoI) (for BPCL stake sale) hasn't been issued yet. We don't know the conditions. We have no information whether PSUs are allowed to bid or not," Singh told reporters here. "I cannot comment if IOC will bid or not unless we see the conditions set out in the EoI."
 He said a decision on the issue can only be taken once there is clarity on the bidding process the government intends to follow.
 Soon after the Cabinet decision, Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had hinted that PSUs will be kept out of BPCL privatisation.
 "Since 2014, we have a clear vision that the government has no business to be in business," Pradhan had said on November 22, 2019. "We have examples of 2-3 sectors such as telecom and aviation where ushering in private participation has led to customers benefiting from price cuts, efficiency, and better service."
 Asked if the company has been told that PSUs will be kept out, Singh said there is no information on whether state-owned firms can bid or not.
 BPCL will give the buyer ready access to 14 per cent of India's oil refining capacity and about one-fourth of the fuel marketing infrastructure in the world's fastest-growing energy market.
 It, however, will be sold after carving out Numaligarh Refinery from its portfolio and given to a pubic sector unit. Numaligarh Refinery Ltd is also to be sold out to a PSU, possibly through a bidding process.
 Singh said he cannot comment if the company will bid for the Numaligarh Refinery unless tender conditions are revealed.
 "We don't know if Numaligarh Refinery will be sold with marketing infrastructure or without its marketing infrastructure. We have to wait for details before IOC can take any decision," he said.
 Numaligarh refinery was set up as per the Assam Peace Accord and the government has decided to keep it in the public sector.
 At the current trading price of BPCL, the government's 53.29 per cent stake is valued at around Rs 53,400 crore. On top of this, the acquirer will have to make an open offer to buy an additional 26 per cent stake from minority shareholders for about Rs 26,000 crore.
 The price of BPCL has been hammered since the November 21 CCEA decision. On that day, the government stood to gain Rs 62,000 crore from privatisation but will now get about Rs 8,000 crore less.
 The stake sales are critical for the government to meet its disinvestment target of Rs 1.05 lakh crore set for the current financial year.
 The government had allowed PSUs to bid when it sold petro retailer IBP Co Ltd in 2002. IOC had bagged the government's 33 per cent stake in IBP for Rs 1,153.68 crore or Rs 1,551 a share. 
 The other bidders for IBP were Reliance Industries, Royal Dutch Shell, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, BPCL, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation. The reserve price for IBP was Rs 337 crore.
 Last year, the government sold its entire stake in Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) to state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) for Rs 36,915 crore.
 BPCL operates four refineries in Mumbai, Kochi (Kerala), Bina (Madhya Pradesh) and Numaligarh (Assam) with a combined capacity of 38.3 million tonnes per annum, which is 15 per cent of India's total refining capacity of 249.4 million tonnes. 
 After removing 3 million tonnes capacity of Numaligarh refinery, the new buyer will get 35.3 million tonnes of refining capacity.
 It also owns 15,177 petrol pumps and 6,011 LPG distributor agencies in the country. Besides, it has 51 LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) bottling plants. The company distributes 21 per cent of petroleum products consumed in the country by volume as of March this year and has more than a fifth of the 250 aviation fuel stations in the country.
 The government is keen to get international energy majors such as Saudi Aramco, Total SA of France and ExxonMobil to operate in the downstream fuel marketing business so as to bring in greater competition.
 Currently, 95 per cent of retail petrol and diesel sales and near 100 per cent of cooking gas (LPG) and kerosene sales are controlled by the public sector units.
 As on March 31, BPCL reported cash and cash equivalents of around Rs 5,300 crore against Rs 10,900 crore of debt maturing over the next 15 months. ANZ RVK
