<ul><li>FMCG giant HUL’s shares reported a decline of over 6% on Thursday.</li><li>This comes a day after the company reported a 2.33% decline in consolidated net profit in Q2.</li><li>The stock tanked 6.59% to ₹2,483.95 on the NSE.</li></ul>Shares of FMCG major <keyword id="20002610" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hindustan-Unilever" source="keywords">Hindustan Unilever</keyword> Ltd (HUL) on Thursday tumbled over 6% after the firm reported a 2.33% decline in consolidated net profit for the second quarter ended in September. The stock tanked 6.59% to ₹2,483.95 on the NSE. The stock emerged as the biggest laggard among the Sensex and Nifty firms during the morning trade. Hindustan Unilever Ltd on Wednesday reported a 2.33% decline in consolidated net profit at ₹2,595 crore for the second quarter ended in September 2024, impacted by moderation in demand from the urban market. The company had logged a net profit of ₹2,657 crore in the July-September quarter a year ago, HUL said in a regulatory filing. However, revenue from product sales was up 2.36% at ₹15,703 crore in the September quarter, from ₹15,340 crore in the year-ago period, HUL which owns power brands such as Surf, Rin, Lux, Pond's, Lifebuoy, Lakme, Brooke Bond, Lipton and Horlicks said. "In the September quarter, <keyword id="21419477" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FMCG-demand" source="keywords">FMCG demand</keyword> witnessed moderating growth in urban markets, while rural continued to recover gradually. In this context, we delivered a competitive and profitable performance," HUL CEO and Managing Director Rohit Jawa said. HUL reported an underlying sales growth of 2% and underlying volume growth of 3%. Total expenses were at ₹12,581 crore in the September quarter, up 3.03% year-on-year. HUL's total income, which includes other income, was up 2.14% to ₹16,145 crore in the September quarter of FY25. Addressing an earnings call, HUL CFO Ritesh Tiwari said, "Two thirds of our business we do in urban areas, and one-third we do in rural areas … we are seeing growth in the urban market moderating. We are seeing rural growth recovery is gradual … it impacts all the categories that we have." On the outlook, he said, "In the near term, we expect demand trends to be stable with no further acceleration in pace of growth." In this context, Tiwari said, "Our focus remains on driving competitive volume-led growth, while continuing investments behind our brands and strategy priorities … If commodity prices remain where they are, we expect a low single digit price growth in the near-term." Hindustan Unilever shares tumble over 6% post Q2 results

New Delhi, Shares of <keyword id="6365619" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hindustan-unilever" source="Orion">Hindustan Unilever</keyword> Ltd fell 2 per cent on Friday after the company reported a marginal decline in consolidated net profit for the second quarter ended September 30. The stock declined 2.07 per cent to settle at Rs 2,495 apiece on the BSE. During the day, it dropped 2.47 per cent to Rs 2,484.80. It slipped 1.84 per cent to end at Rs 2,501 per share on the NSE. The company's market valuation fell by Rs 12,417.58 crore to Rs 5,86,223.02 crore. In volume terms, 2.63 lakh shares of the company were traded on the BSE and over 36 lakh shares on the NSE during the day. Hindustan Unilever on Thursday reported a marginal decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 2,657 crore for the second quarter ended September 30 amid subdued rural demand and heightened competitive intensity. The company had posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 2,670 crore in the same quarter last fiscal, Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) said in a regulatory filing. Total income stood at Rs 15,806 crore in the quarter under review, compared to Rs 15,253 crore in the year-ago period, it added. Total expense in the second quarter was higher at Rs 12,211 crore against Rs 11,965 crore a year ago. "We delivered resilient and competitive growth whilst stepping up our EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) margin in a challenging operating environment, marked by subdued rural demand and heightened competitive intensity," HUL CEO and Managing Director Rohit Jawa said.

HUL shares decline 2%; mcap erodes by Rs 12,417.58 cr after earnings announcement

The 30-share <keyword id="19895774" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bse" source="keywords">BSE</keyword> Sensex fell by 259.58 points or 0.36 per cent to settle at 71,423.65 as 24 of its components declined and six advanced. The Nifty declined 50.60 points or 0.23 per cent to 21,571.80. Among the Sensex firms, Kotak Bank, PowerGrid, <keyword id="19900482" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="icici-bank" source="keywords">ICICI Bank</keyword>, HDFC Bank, PowerGrid were the major gainers. <keyword id="19948892" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hul" source="keywords">HUL</keyword>, TCS, M&amp;M, IndusInd Bank, HCL Tech were among the losers. "Amid rising optimism about AI, US markets surged over the weekend. However, domestic markets exhibited a subdued trend influenced by extended holidays, low volumes, and weekly option expiration," Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services said. Profit booking was noted in IT and FMCG, while private banks witnessed selective buying post the recent sharp correction and stable Q3 earnings, Nair added. Among sectors, FMCG and IT stocks suffered the most, while banks and financial services gained. Shares of HUL and Reliance Industries were under pressure after their December quarter results. Reliance Industries shares settled 0.80 per cent down at Rs 2713.20 on BSE post its third quarter earnings announcement on Friday. The company posted a 9 per cent rise in its December quarter net profit as a planned maintenance-induced weakness in oil business earnings was offset by stability in retail and telecom verticals. The stock of HUL was closed 3.72 per cent down at Rs 2469.30 apiece. Hindustan Unilever Ltd on Friday reported an 1.08 per cent increase in consolidated net profit at Rs 2,508 crore in the third quarter ended December 2023. On Friday, the 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 496.37 points or 0.70 per cent to settle at 71,683.23 points. The Nifty climbed 160.15 points or 0.75 per cent to close at 21,622.40 points. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 3,689.68 crore on Friday, according to exchange data. NSE and BSE on Friday announced holding normal trading sessions on Saturday as stock markets are closed on January 22 amid a half-day holiday declared by banks. Money markets and forex trading will also be closed on Monday.

Equity benchmark indices opened on a positive note on Saturday, with Sensex rising 250 points on the back of an uptick in financial stocks. The <keyword id="19896381" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nifty" source="keywords">Nifty</keyword> climbed 75.80 points or 0.35 per cent to 21,698.20 points. Shares of <keyword id="19948892" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hul" source="keywords">HUL</keyword> and Reliance Industries were under pressure after their December quarter results. Reliance Industries shares were trading 0.18 per cent down at Rs 2,730 in morning deals post its third quarter earnings announcement on Friday. The company posted a 9 per cent rise in its December quarter net profit as a planned maintenance-induced weakness in oil business earnings was offset by stability in retail and telecom verticals. The stock of HUL was down 2.68 per cent at Rs 2,496 apiece in initial deals. According to analysts, domestic equity markets are likely to witness subdued activity amid low participation from global as well as domestic investors. "As the breadth of the market is very strong, we expect the stock-specific bullish trend is likely to continue. In the near term, Nifty could face resistance at 21,850, while support is seen at 21,500," <keyword id="20154463" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="deepak-jasani" source="keywords">Deepak Jasani</keyword>, Head of Retail Research at HDFC Securities, said. Late on Friday, NSE and BSE announced that there will be normal trading sessions on Saturday while the market will be closed on January 22. On Friday, the 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 496.37 points or 0.70 per cent to settle at 71,683.23 points. The Nifty climbed 160.15 points or 0.75 per cent to close at 21,622.40 points. Global oil benchmark Brent crude declined 0.68 per cent to USD 78.56 a barrel. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 3,689.68 crore on Friday, according to exchange data.
