<ul><li>Mahindra and Mahindra has launched a premium shared mobility service called Glyd. </li><li>The service – Glyd – will have only Mahindra’s Electric Vehicles in its fleet. </li><li>While it has been launched in Mumbai, it will soon move to other cities.</li></ul>Mahindra and Mahindra has launched a cab-hailing service called <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/technology/auto/mahindra-glyd-es-into-mumbais-app-based-taxi-business-to-rival-uber-ola-3580161.html">Glyd </a>for the office-going crowd. The service is powered by electric vehicles and will come as a new rival for companies like Uber and Ola in India. While the ownership is Mahindra’s, the fleet of 10 e-Veritos for now and drivers will be managed by a third party. The service has been launched in Mumbai and will expand to other Indian cities soon. The tech-based e-mobility service is designed for the office going crowd with features like web-conferencing along with curated entertainment and music content provided from partners. It also boasts of additional features like privacy screen, air purifier, wrap-around headrest among others. The services will be marketed as a “premium” service. "The company has from time to time provided innovative and first of its kind e-mobility solutions. Glyd is one such flagship premium e-mobility solution to redefine the in-commute experience of daily commuters," M&amp;M Managing Director Pawan Goenka said in a<a href="https://www.businesstoday.in/sectors/auto/mahindra-launches-electric-mobility-service-glyd-in-mumbai-10-e-veritos-flagged-off/story/322009.html"> statement.</a> India has seen a boom of mobility startups and services, led by the successful example of Ola. Uber and Ola have a new challenger in India – and it’s a large car maker

<ul><li>The ride-hailing company’s subsidiary <keyword id="6602160" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="ola-electric-mobility">Ola Electric Mobility</keyword> has raised ₹400 crores from existing investors. </li><li>Ola has raised money 2 days after Mahindra and Mahindra launched its ride-hailing app Glyd which will use electric cars. </li><li>Ola had announced to bring 1 million EVs on Indian roads by 2022. </li></ul><keyword id="4393078" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Ola-Electric">Ola Electric</keyword> Mobility Ltd, a company backed by Ola – India’s unicorn ride hailing app – has raised ₹400 crores from Ola’s existing and early investors Tiger Global and Matrix India. The news come just two days after Mahindra and Mahindra announced the launch of its ride hailing service Glyd which would be using only Electric Vehicles (EVs). The subsidiary company had come into being when Ola tried to push its electric mobility program in Nagpur in partnership with Mahindra. While the plan didn’t take off in Nagpur roads with drivers even reportedly returning the vehicles, Ola has stuck to its plan to bring 1 million Electric Vehicles on Indian roads by 2022. This venture seems to be a part of Ola’s bigger plans of doing more than just putting cabs on the roads. Through Ola Electric, the company has already partnered with several OEMs and battery manufacturers, while looking at working with the automotive industry for solutions for electric vehicles. According to the company’s official statement, they are currently running several pilots to deploy electric vehicles and charging solutions, including battery swapping stations, electric 2-wheeler and 3-wheeler services amongst others. “At Ola Electric, our mission is to enable sustainable mobility for everyone. India can leapfrog problems of pollution and energy security by moving to electric mobility, create millions of new jobs and economic opportunity, and lead the world,” said Bhavish Aggarwal, Co-founder &amp; CEO, Ola in an official statement. Ola Electric is headed by Anand Shah, a former senior executive from the auto industry, and Ankit Jain, who headed Ola’s connected vehicle platform. Ola gets fresh funds to take on Mahindra’s Glyd – where’s Uber?

<ul><li><keyword id="4393078" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola-Electric">Ola Electric</keyword> raised $250 million from Softbank to enter the unicorn club. </li><li>The subsidiary company of ride hailing unicorn Ola had earlier raised funds from <keyword id="6360722" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword>, Arun Sarin, Tiger Global, Matrix India and others. </li><li>Interestingly, all of these investors have also placed their bets on Ola.</li></ul>Ola Electric has become India’s latest unicorn after it raised $250 million from Softbank, according to filings sourced by paper.vc. Ola Electric Mobility , a subsidiary of the ride hailing unicorn Ola, has been in the news of late as India powers up its Electric Vehicle mission. In May, Ola Electric also raised funds from Arun Sarin, former Vodafone Group CEO and also from the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Group, Ratan Tata. In March, it had raised ₹4 billion from Ola’s existing and early investors – Tiger Global and Matrix India. Interestingly, most of the investors in Ola Electric are its parent company’s investors – from Softbank to Arun Sarin, Ratan Tata and even Tiger Global and Matrix India. “India can leapfrog problems of pollution and energy security by moving to electric mobility, create millions of new jobs and economic opportunity, and lead the world,” Bhavish Aggarwal, Co-founder &amp; CEO, Ola had said in March. And before you say it’s a ridiculous idea, well it’s an April Fool’s Day prank by the company. However, that’s not it. Ola is driving home a bigger message through the prank. Twitter users had already started calling out Ola for using toilets as a prank given that India ranks highest in various issues related to sanitation. In fact, a report done by WaterAid shows some really troubling numbers for India – 732 million people still “suffer from fear and indignity of relieving themselves in the open or in unsafe or unhygienic toilets”, more than 355 million women and girls have to wait in long queues just for access to the toilet making India top the list for the longest queue for the toilet. Turning around its April Fool’s Day prank, Ola is now offering its riders a chance to contribute and make way for access to toilets in India. They have partnered with Gramalaya, an organisation dedicated to providing better water and sanitary facilities in rural areas. Through this partnership, starting April 2 Ola users can voluntarily contribute ₹1 per ride to Gramalaya. Ola uses an April Fool's Day prank to drive home a message – India needs more toilets

<ul><li>Indian ride-hailing unicorn Ola has expanded its operations in the UK. </li><li>Ola is now present in 7 cities in the UK. </li><li>The company is not launching auto-rickshaws in the UK, had only used them in Liverpool for a promotional campaign last week.</li></ul>Indian cab aggregator Ola has expanded its operations in the United Kingdom and has launched services in three new cities in the UK – Liverpool, Birmingham and Reading. This takes Ola’s presence to a total of seven cities in the UK. Local councils in the UK have granted the platform with Taxi and Private Hire licenses. The company said that Ola is the only app in the UK that offers both black cabs and Private Hire Vehicles while also giving drivers highest share of the revenue – charging just 10% commission to black cabs and 15% to PHVs. “Thanks to the positive word-of-mouth from both driver-partners and passengers who experienced our offerings in Cardiff, Bristol, Bath, and Exeter, we received requests from users across the UK to introduce the Ola platform in their cities,” said Ben Legg, Managing Director of <keyword id="6775956" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola-UK">Ola UK</keyword>. Photos of Ola’s tuk tuks spotted Liverpool had become a talking point in social media. However, the company said that it has not launched auto rickshaws in the UK. The auto rickshaws were a part of the promotional campaign where it offered customers free rides on green tuk-tuks last week. Over the next seven months, Ola plans to expand its operations to North England and the Midlands. After making inroads into e-mobility, it is now launching a self-drive service. Ola is set to start its self-drive service by pumping in $500 million, a source told Business Insider. Confirming the news, an Ola spokesperson told Business Insider, “Basis market feedback, we are piloting our Ola Self-Drive offering in various formats like rentals, subscription and corporate leasing in select cities in the coming weeks. This space is currently underserved and there exists a tremendous opportunity to build a superior experience through an integrated mobility platform like Ola.” The self-drive car rental service will put Ola in direct competition with Zoomcar and Drivezy, while pushing forward Ola’s existing fleet business. Ola Fleet Technologies Pvt Ltd also looks into asset optimization and management. Ola is planning to take this launch to its top seven cities – Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune and Kolkata – with over 10,000 vehicles including luxury sedans and SUVs under the Ola Self-drive category. The company is taking this self-drive category to Ola’s 150 million+ consumers in the country will make it the largest self drive business in India, the source added. By understanding consumer demand, Ola will look at introducing more car types into the self-drive category. They are also looking at growing the business through a subscription model for consumers and reaching out to corporates. Earlier this month, Hyundai Motor Group and Ola announced a strategic partnership under which Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors Corporation made their biggest combined investment to date of $300 million. “As part of the strategic collaboration, the companies have agreed to co-create solutions to operate and manage fleet vehicles, marking the Group’s first foray into the industry, as they expand operations from automobile manufacturing and sales to total fleet solutions,” Ola had said in an official statement.
