E-commerce major <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword> has pledged to give delivery workers leave with full pay and benefits if they contract COVID-19 or are placed under quarantine. Flipkart said it has made temperature screening using infra-red thermometers mandatory for all employees, vendors and visitors. Persons with suspected flu symptoms are advised to return home. "For our supply chain and logistics network, we have organised more than 3,000 awareness sessions covering over 100k employees across all our facilities on how our employees and partners can minimize their exposure by following simple precautionary measures," Amitesh Jha, Senior Vice President - eKart &amp; Marketplace at Flipkart, said in a blog post on Wednesday. The delivery executives of the e-commerce major are covered with both life and medical insurance, Jha informed. With the rapid spread of <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> across the world, the demand for digital services has increased significantly. Online retail giant Amazon this week announced that it plans to hire 1 lakh employees in the US in its fulfilment centres and delivery network as more and more people are relying on online deliveries for their daily needs due to the coronavirus pandemic. Flipkart also said that it has seen "overwhelming demand for essential products". "We appreciate the dedication and customer-first approach of our supply chain executives, wishmasters and delivery partners during this challenging time. They have reiterated their commitment to serving customers and overcoming many challenges to meet the overwhelming demand for essential products," Jha said. "The onus is on e-commerce to rise to the demands of the occasion, and we are sparing no effort to ensure that we meet our customers' needs," he said, adding that Flipkart is taking all preventive measures as advised by the World Health Organization. Seeking cooperation from customers in fighting the spread of coronavirus in India, Flipkart requested them to use digital payment gateways for all cash-on-delivery shipments. Flipkart said it is working on making additional delivery options such as contactless delivery available to customers in select locations. "Customers also have the option of requesting the delivery partner to leave their packages at the security booth of their residential complexes in line with their complex's guidelines (in case of online payments)," Jha said.

However, Uber’s food delivery platform UberEats scored three points, adding the facility of offering a process for the decisions that affect workers. The report measured the markets on five fronts — fair pay, fair working conditions, fair contracts, that is transparency around the terms &amp; conditions, fair management, and fair representation. The ranking has been concluded on the basis of a collaborated ‘Fairwork Research Project’ by the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore, the University of Cape Town, the University of Manchester, and the University of the Western Cape analysing the markets in India and South Africa. According to reports, a woman by the name of <keyword id="2847503" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kamal-Deep">Kamal Deep</keyword>, stabbed Keshav, the delivery person, for being late to her door. Keshav, who was new to the area, was unable to find the residence of the accused who had repeatedly called him and yelled at him for the delay. When he finally managed to get to the location, Kamal Deep and Keshav got into an argument that led to her picking up a knife and attacking him. Upon hearing the scuffle, Kamal Deep’s brother, Jitender Singh, came into the scene and though he initially tried to stop her, she allegedly egged him to join her and teach the man ‘a lesson.’ That was enough for the brother to join in on the act and the duo stabbed Keshav multiple times and even tried to strangle him with a shoelace. Not only that, they also robbed the man of Rs 40,000 that he had collected while making his rounds. Later, they dumped his body near a drain in the Chander Vihar area in <keyword id="66" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi">Delhi</keyword>. The Police PCR got a call about the body at around 9pm and the injured man was taken to <keyword id="122056" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanjay-Gandhi-Hospital">Sanjay Gandhi Hospital</keyword> for treatment. A senior police officer told <a href="http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/Delhi/woman-stabs-delivery-man-in-delhi/article23379239.ece">The Hindu</a>, “The injured has been identified as Keshav, a resident of Ambica Enclave in Nihal Vihar. He recorded his statement on March 24 and based on his statement, the accused were arrested. A CCTV footage also helped us crack the case.” The duo have been booked for attempt to murder and voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery under the Indian Penal Code Section 307 and Section 394 respectively at Nihal Vihar police station. During interrogation the accused tried to mislead the police, however, Keshav’s testimony was corroborated by the footage of him entering the building and then being dragged out by the accused all neatly captured by a CCTV camera in the opposite building. The not-so-bright attackers also left all the evidence -- the stolen money, blood-stained towel, the knife and the shoeless -- in a Flipkart bag at their residence, which was later recovered by the police. Sadly, this is not an isolated incident. Delivery personnel have often been abused, robbed and even killed. In December 2016, 29-year-old Nanjundaswamy, another <keyword id="2804991" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="FLIPKART-DELIVERY">Flipkart delivery</keyword> person, went to a gym in <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword> to deliver an item and had <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/bangalore-news/bengaluru-gym-trainer-allegedly-killed-flipkart-delivery-man-for-smartphone-1638085">his throat slit </a>by the accused, Varun, who couldn't pay for the phone he had purchased. In July 2017, <a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/delhi-news/50-fake-online-orders-in-4-months-gang-of-teenagers-robbing-delivery-boys-in-delhi-arrested/story-799Ti2awLts8LjWwOjhPvK.html">a gang of thieves were nabbed</a> for first stealing bikes, then stealing mobile phones while riding around in these bikes, and finally using the stolen mobile phone to purchase items and robbing the persons who came to deliver the items.

New Delhi, Dec 5 () Logistics firm Shadowfax has raised around Rs 430 crore in a funding round led by e-commerce player Flipkart. 
Eight Roads Ventures, Nokia Growth Partners, Qualcomm Ventures, Mirae Asset Naver Fund and the World Bank-backed IFC also participated in the funding round, a joint statement by Shadowfax and Flipkart said.
Flipkart has an existing partnership with Shadowfax for delivery of products and the investment is part of Flipkart's strategy to build hyperlocal ecosystem by bringing offline 'kirana' stores within the fold of its business, the statement said.
 "By leveraging kirana stores and the deep delivery capabilities of Shadowfax and other Flipkart-led innovations, we are building a strong foundation to make inroads into a dynamic hyperlocal consumer market," Flipkart CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy said.
Shadowfax CEO Abhishek Bansal said with this capital infusion, Shadowfax plans to invest extensively in building long-term capabilities which are essential to developing an efficient and superior service quality ecosystem in Indian logistics. 
"This strategic integration with Flipkart and its global best practices will not only unlock huge opportunities for Shadowfax but will also enable us to innovate with the largest online platform in India and build core capabilities that can be democratized for the larger logistics ecosystem," Bansal said.
