Chargers with LECCS will appear when searching for 'EV charger near me' or '<keyword id="20593483" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="charging-stations" source="keywords">charging stations</keyword>" on <keyword id="19895625" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="google-maps" source="keywords">Google Maps</keyword> and whenever a new charger is installed, it will also be listed on Google Maps, it added. Ather Grid's fast-charging network for electric two-wheelers is based on the indigenously developed LECCS, which is approved for nation-wide adoption by the Bureau of Indian Standards, Ather Energy said. The new standard was launched last year in a significant move towards building a universal standard through interoperability, thus paving the way for wider adoption of <keyword id="19895203" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="electric-vehicles" source="keywords">electric vehicles</keyword> in the country. New Delhi, Mar 13 () MG Motor India on Friday said it has shortlisted Driftly Electric, a smart EV charging solutions provider, under its developer program and grant for support. Launched in January 2020, Driftly will receive grant to further expand its services through a peer-based ecosystem approach. The start-up helps electric vehicle (EV) owners to find nearby charging points through a multi-platform app by connecting EV users to charging points set up by private individuals, MG Motor India said in a statement. The charging point owners can earn revenue as users come to charge their EVs. This helps in easier monetisation for owners of EV charging points, thus bridging a major need-gap in the Indian EV market. Commenting on the development, MG Motor India President &amp; Managing Director Rajeev Chaba said, "Through this grant, we are looking forward to supporting its growth, as it is in sync with our long-term vision of catalysing India's nascent EV market by creating an end-to-end and well-integrated charging ecosystem." The aim behind the MG Developer Program &amp; Grant is to support and accelerate the evolution of the ecosystem of smart mobility in Indian automotive landscape by bringing innovative ideas and solutions to the fore, he added. "They don't want something gargantuan that doesn't fit in their garage." Electric minivans for personal use are not a thing in the US yet. Volkswagen's <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/vw-id-buzz-volkswagen-electric-bus-minivan-2024-interior-2022-4">ID.Buzz</a>, which has already launched in Europe with a short wheelbase, is expected to launch with a long wheelbase in the US in 2024. "Disabled people know better than most that retrofitting often leaves a lot to be desired. Have you ever been in an older building that's been retrofitted with air conditioning and you're like, ah, this doesn't work all that well?" The data provided by the minister shows that Maharashtra leads with 3,079 EV charging stations followed by Delhi with 1,886, while Karnataka is at the third spot with 1,041 charging stations. The top three states are followed by: <keyword id="19896018" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kerala" source="keywords">Kerala</keyword> (852), <keyword id="19896558" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu" source="keywords">Tamil Nadu</keyword> (643), Uttar Pradesh (582), <keyword id="19898913" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajasthan" source="keywords">Rajasthan</keyword> (500), Telangana (481), Gujarat (476) and Madhya Pradesh (341), making up the top 10 list. The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has been making consistent efforts for facilitating the promotion of EVs in India. The FAME-II scheme inter-alia included financial support in the form of subsidy for setting up of public charging infrastructure to instill confidence among the EV users, the minister said. Further, the Ministry of Power has taken several initiatives to accelerate the deployment of public EV charging infrastructure in the country. The government has issued guidelines and standards for charging infrastructure, which enable the owners of EVs to charge their vehicles at their residence/office using their existing electricity connections. A revenue sharing model for provision of land at promotional rates for public charging stations has also been introduced and provision has been made for providing electricity connection to Public Charging Station (PCS) within stipulated timelines. The government has also prescribed the single part EV tariff for public charging stations, This amount cannot exceed Average Cost of Supply (ACoS) till 31.03.2025. The guidelines specify a ceiling of Rs 2.50 per unit and Rs 3.50 per unit of electricity used for slow AC charging of EVs at PCS during the solar and non-solar hours, respectively. Additionally, a ceiling limit of Rs 10 per unit and Rs 12 per unit of electricity used for DC fast charging of EVs at PCS during the solar and non-solar hours, respectively, has also been specified. Average cost of supply (ACoS) by DISCOMs to PCSs during solar hours shall have a rebate of 20 per cent and a surcharge of 20 per cent during all other times. The Green Energy Open Access Rules, 2022, has been notified with the objective of further accelerating renewable energy adoption, ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and green energy for all, the minister added.

Electric vehicles must be considered for priority lending by the government to accelerate their adoption, while sufficient funds must also be allocated for R&amp;D in a public-private partnership mode for development of batteries, industry body <keyword id="2746593" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="smev" source="Orion">SMEV</keyword> said on Thursday. In its Budget wish list, the <keyword id="481834" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="society-of-manufacturers-of-electric-vehicles" source="Orion">Society Of Manufacturers Of Electric Vehicles</keyword> (SMEV) also said there is a need to amend the PLI scheme for automobile and auto components, as in its current form there is an "unfair price disadvantage" for small and medium-size EV players in the industry. "To create a robust ecosystem for electric vehicles and give a boost to the EV market, the government could look at putting EVs in the priority lending sector. It will help citizens afford EVs at lower interest rates," SMEV said in a statement. Finance Minister <keyword id="129243" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nirmala-sitharaman" source="Orion">Nirmala Sitharaman</keyword> is scheduled to present the Union Budget for FY 2022-2023 on February 1. Stressing on the need for R&amp;D in battery manufacturing, the body of EV makers said, "unless we work seriously and diligently on EV batteries, we will end up in a situation similar to, if not worse than, our dependence on crude oil." The current level of research is abysmally low, diluted, and scattered, it said adding, "the government could allocate sufficient funds for R&amp;D in a public-private partnership mode with a time-bound objective to create EV batteries that are less dependent on offshore minerals and best suited to the Indian condition." The PLI scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) can be suitably amended to incentivise the R&amp;D efforts, it added. SMEV said while the scheme will certainly have incentives for the large players, it is also creating an unfair price disadvantage for small and medium-size EV players who are not qualifying for the incentives under the scheme due to their size, turnover, and backgrounds. "Hence, we request the government to create a level playing field through amendments in the scheme so that MSME EV players, all the pre-existing and new players can also participate," it said. Under the current PLI scheme for automobile and auto components, among other criteria, an automobile company or group firm with existing presence in India or globally needs to have a minimum of Rs 10,000 crore revenue, while for auto components, the minimum revenue requirement is Rs 500 crore. On the other hand, for new non-automotive investor companies or group companies, which are currently not in automobile or auto component manufacturing business, such entities should have a global net worth of Rs 1,000 crore based on audited financial statements for year ending March 31, 2021. The industry body also sought export concessions for EVs in order to make manufacturers in India cash in on the growing demand for such vehicles across the globe. "Some incentives can be extended in the form of subsidies to be enjoyed by domestic consumers for exporting such vehicles to get a global stamp on electric vehicles. This is a large space that Indian industries can capture before international players invade the market with cheaper contraptions," SMEV asserted. Besides, in order to promote EVs, SMEV also mooted a citizen reward programme for EV users which can be used at various establishments and occasions to access fast track services or acquire points for the rewards and inclusion of clean air campaign in Swachh Bharat mission. The government has ordered a probe into <keyword id="42747" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="Orion">Tata Motors</keyword>' Nexon EV fire incident in Mumbai, as the company was investigating the "isolated thermal incident". The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), which was earlier tasked with investigating electric two-wheeler fire incidents by the Union Road Transport and Highways Ministry, would lead the probe into Nexon EV fire too. The DRDO probe had found serious defects in the batteries. These defects occurred because the electric two-wheeler manufacturers like Okinawa Autotech, Pure EV, Jitendra Electric Vehicles, Ola Electric and Boom Motors may have used "lower-grade materials to cut costs". A <keyword id="7931165" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Nexon-EV" source="Orion">Tata Nexon EV</keyword> caught fire in Mumbai and the company said on Thursday a detailed investigation is currently being conducted to ascertain the facts of the recent isolated thermal incident that is doing the rounds on social media. The EV car fire incident was reported from Vasai West (near Panchvati hotel) in Mumbai late on Wednesday. "We will share a detailed response after our complete investigation. We remain committed to the safety of our vehicles and their users," the company said in a statement. <keyword id="2055885" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-nexon" source="Orion">Tata Nexon</keyword> EV is the highest selling electric car in India and at least 2,500-3,000 cars are being sold every month in the country. The company has so far sold over 30,000 EVs, most of which are Nexon models. "This is a first incident after more than 30,000 EVs have cumulatively covered over 100 million km across the country in nearly four years," said the company. As fires and explosions in electric two-wheelers continue unabated, the government is all set to introduce EV battery standards (BIS standards) for EV two-wheelers that will be expanded to four-wheelers at a later stage. The BIS standards for EV batteries will look into "size, connectors, specification and minimum quality of cells, the battery's capacity". Earlier, NITI Aayog in a discussion paper also stressed upon the need for BIS standards as the first step towards a national battery swapping policy. Mumbai, Feb 4 () Tata Power has joined hands with EV cab operator Prakriti E-Mobility to set up 50 art charging stations for electric vehicles in a phased manner.Last month, three Tata Group companies had unveiled a mega plan for the electric mobility space along with group company Tata Motors.The two companies will jointly set up 30 slow chargers and five fast chargers over a period across the Delhi-NCR, said Prakriti, an app-based EV taxi service provider in the national Capital.As part of the tie-up, Tata Power will be responsible for designing, procuring, installing and managing the charging stations near the Delhi airport, Gurgaon and north Delhi.The companies have opened the first fast charger at Jasola area of southeast Delhi on Monday.The chargers to be installed by Tata Power will primarily be used by Prakriti's EV car fleet, the statement added.Nimish Trivedi of Prakriti said this partnership will help strengthen his company's plan to rolling out 5,000 EV cabs over the next two years and also boost the overall EV ecosystem.Ramesh Subramanyam of Tata Power said partnerships like this are key to the journey to be a one-stop integrated charging service provider to all forms of transport and all categories of user.Tata Power already has a network of over 100 charging points across public, captive, residential and corporate segments addressing different charging standards. Tata Power to set up 50 charging stations for EVs in NCR

<ul><li><keyword id="5985844" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="MG-Motors">MG Motors</keyword> is launching its electric car <keyword id="8107599" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="mg-zs-ev">MG ZS EV</keyword> in early December.</li><li>India is still warming up to <keyword id="186291" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="EV">EV</keyword> adoption and the biggest roadblock is the lack of charging infrastructure. </li><li>In 2017, India had 222 publicly accessible charging points located in top cities. </li></ul>Iconic carmaker MG Motors has had a warm welcome in India, and now its charging things up with an electric car. It’s launching the MG ZS EV in early December – a car that will hopefully make electric cars in India sexy. The British company which is now owned by Chinese SIAC entered the India automobile market with a mid-size SUV, MG Hector in June 2019 and received an overwhelming response. It had to stop bookings after receiving<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/mg-hector-suv-stops-bookings-as-demand-is-high-with-21000-bookings-in-a-month/articleshow/70287617.cms"> 21,000 of them within a month</a>. Now, it hopes to have a similar path with its electric car with the launch slated to be on December 5. It will join the two other EV options in India – Mahindra eVerito and Hyundai Kona Electric. Lack of charging infrastructure All the <keyword id="6354973" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="electric-vehicles">electric vehicles</keyword> launched and yet to be launched have a rocky road ahead. And not just because the car sales in general is on a slow lane for the last one year. The cars need an extensive charging infrastructure and India had a mere 222 publicly accessible charging points in 2017 and that too in top cities. So MG is developing charging infrastructure as well. Days ahead of its EV launch, MG Motors launched the first 50 kW DC charging station at its flagship showroom at Gurugram – n partnership with Fortum Charge &amp; Drive India. They plan to add four more stations across Delhi NCR. It is planning to open them in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. “With an aim to be the leader in the EV segment in India, we are pulling out all the stops to ensure adequate charging infrastructure for our first EV customers. Our endeavour is to create a robust ecosystem for EVs, right from charging to end-of-life for electric vehicles in India and the installation of the first public fast charger is the first major step in this direction,” said Rajeev Chaba, president and managing director at , MG Motor India. However, it’s not alone. Tata Motors too is setting up 500 EV charging stations in five cities – Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad – over the next two years. What the Indian government is doing The Indian government has set a mission – to convert 30% of cars on the roads to electric by 2030. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power, has been given the authority to set up charging stations across the country. In a study done by the BEE and Ernst &amp; Young, it was projected that by 2030, Delhi would have 22.6 lakh charging stations, Lucknow would have 6.3 lakhs while Nagpur would have 2.6 lakhs. And there is the problem of the cost. “The retail pricing has been determined to be ₹4 per minute of charging that the operator is likely to charge the EV user with capital subsidy,” the study said. “At least one charging station should be available in a grid of 3 Km X 3 Km in the cities and one charging station at every 25 km on both sides of highways/roads,” Power Minister RK Singh said recently. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also announced tax subsidy for people who buy electric cars during the Union Budget. “To make electric vehicles affordable to consumers, our government will provide additional income tax deduction of ₹1.5 lakh on the interest paid on loans taken to purchase electric vehicles. This amounts to a benefit of around ₹2.5 lakh over the loan period to the taxpayers who take loans to purchase electric vehicles,” she had said. <ul class="summary-list"><li>The EV revolution is stalling in the US amid concerns over affordability and charging times.</li><li>Experts think battery swapping, which charges EVs in as little as five minutes, could be a solution.</li></ul><a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/electric-car-ev-sales-prices-problem-transportation-2024-1">America's EV revolution is stalling</a> — and the time it takes to charge an electric car is at the heart of the issue.Right now, charging your EV can take anywhere from <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ev-charging-stations-explained-levels-plugs-tesla-supercharger-2022-12">20 minutes to 50 hours</a> depending on how you do it, and anxieties over range and charging are putting many drivers off going electric.Battery swapping, which sees dead EV batteries replaced with fully charged ones in a process that can take less than five minutes, might provide a solution — and it's an approach being used by one of Tesla's biggest Chinese rivals.<h2>The Tesla rival pioneering battery-swapping</h2>Founded by entrepreneur William Li — sometimes referred to as <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chinas-answer-elon-musk-explains-company-take-tesla-2018-5">"China's Elon Musk"</a> — in 2014, Nio has built a network of more than <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/nio-has-developed-ev-battery-with-a-1-000km-range-2023-12">2,000 battery swap stations in China</a>.The company allows customers to buy their cars without paying for the full cost of the battery, and then charges them <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/nio-china-tesla-rival-lease-batteries-separate-from-car-sales-2020-8">a monthly subscription fee</a> to simply swap out their dead batteries whenever they run out of charge.Aside from lowering the upfront cost of an electric car, Nio's battery-swapping system also has other benefits, its senior vice-president Fei Shen told Business Insider.<div type="image" title="William Li" height="1667" width="2500" msid="107385986" hostid="261" sizebytes="196144"></div>"In areas of China where battery swap stations are fairly widespread, users can upgrade their battery from 75 kilowatt hours to 100 kilowatt hours for only 50 yuan ($7) per day," he said."What we find, is that more users will buy or lease cars with the 75 kilowatt hours battery instead of this 100 kilowatt hours battery because the price is lower. When they go on long-distance journeys, like going back to their hometown, they can upgrade to a long-distance battery in one of our swap stations," he added.Nio's battery-swapping strategy has picked up traction in the fiercely competitive Chinese EV market in recent months, with the company signing deals with fellow electric vehicle makers <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nio.com/news/Geely-Holding-and-NIO-Sign-Strategic-Partnership-Agreement-on-Battery-Swapping-Technology">Geely</a>, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/nio-announces-three-strategic-partnerships-battery-swap-nio-jubdc/">JAC, and Chery</a> to jointly develop battery-swapping tech.However, it remains far more expensive than regular charging, with Shen telling BI that only around 20% of Nio's "swap stations" are breaking even, and the company has <a target="_blank" href="https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Automobiles/Long-road-to-profit-for-China-s-Nio-underscores-EV-challenges">yet to make a profit</a>.Despite this, Nio is planning to significantly expand its operations, including outside China. The company has set up <a target="_blank" href="https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/ev-manufacturer-nio-opens-30th-battery-swap-station-in-europe">30 battery swap stations in Europe</a>, and is planning to launch <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/nio-tesla-electric-car-suv-es7-stock-china-2022-6">a new range of affordable EVs</a> in an attempt to boost sales in the continent.<h2>US challenges</h2>Nio's battery swap stations — around the size of a small car wash — are unlikely to appear on US roads anytime soon, with Chinese automakers largely shut out from the US market <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/biden-administration-considers-hiking-tariffs-on-chinese-evs-us-market-2023-12">thanks to high tariffs</a>.That's a blow for American consumers, who have begun to turn their backs on EVs <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/electrc-vehicle-demand-problem-affordability-expense-price-cost-2023-10">amid a dearth of affordable options</a> and concerns over charging and range.Experts told BI that battery swapping offers a solution to many of those concerns — in theory."From a purely technological point of view, it is the panacea. It solves all of the big problems people have with EVs," said Dylan Khoo, an analyst at ABI Research.<div type="image" title="Nio battery swapping" height="1406" width="2500" msid="107385987" hostid="261" sizebytes="272696"></div>He pointed out that the most powerful plug-in battery chargers still take <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ev-charging-stations-explained-levels-plugs-tesla-supercharger-2022-12">20 minutes to charge an EV up to 80%</a>, with many battery swap stations able to swap in a fully charged battery under five.John Helveston, a professor of engineering at George Washington University, agreed, telling BI that a nationwide network of battery-swapping stations would effectively eradicate range anxiety and make charging an EV as simple as filling up with gas.However, he said that battery swapping faces a more challenging outlook in the US than in China, with <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-wants-to-use-electric-vehicles-to-power-grid-electricity-2024-1">the sheer number of EVs being sold in China</a> meaning that automakers can build their own swapping networks without depending on striking deals with their rivals."China has such a higher scale in terms of the volumes of EVs being sold, that any one automaker making a particular vehicle, they can actually design their car to be swappable and they don't necessarily have to have a battery that works with other competitors," he said.Helveston added that China's efficient urban transport links mean there's less need for EVs to have massive range-boosting batteries than in the more scattered US, something which makes battery swapping far easier."Nobody needs to drive 300 miles in a car in China. That's sort of an insane idea. And that means you can buy a much smaller battery, which is much easier to swap," he said.<h2>Share to succeed</h2>Khoo told BI that establishing a battery-swapping network in the US would require intense collaboration between US automakers, who would have to agree to use batteries with a similar size and design."A lot of the automakers in the West are a bit more protective and defensive. It's a heavy innovation because battery swap is closely connected with the vehicle design and the sales model," said Dr Shen."Even in China where we have cooperated with other automakers, it's not easy for them to make the decision to work with Nio on battery swapping," he added.<h2>Potential solution</h2>One US company that says it has a solution to this problem is <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fast-charging-electric-car-charging-network-ample-startup-fast-as-gas-2021-3">Californian startup Ample</a>.The San Francisco-based firm has developed battery swap stations that can swap in a fully charged battery in <a target="_blank" href="https://ample.com/">five minutes</a>, which the company says can be adjusted to work with any EV, regardless of battery type."If you go to an automaker and say, look, the way you work with us is to rebuild all your cars, that's a tall order," said Ample cofounder John De Souza.Ample, which in the future plans to charge users a battery subscription fee to use its swap stations, has battery swap stations operating in Spain, Japan, and California, where it has worked mainly <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/blackstone-is-betting-50-million-on-ev-battery-swapping-2021-11">with fleet providers such as Uber</a>.The firm's approach to battery swapping is beginning to win over major automakers, with <a target="_blank" href="https://www.theverge.com/2023/12/7/23991923/stellantis-ample-ev-battery-swap-deal-fiat-500e-spain">Stellantis striking a deal with Ample</a> to power a fleet of its Fiat 500e vehicles in Spain as part of a car-sharing service.If the partnership is successful, it could expand to the US in the future, with the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.autoweek.com/news/a46011583/2024-fiat-500e-price-features-reveal/">Fiat 500e set to launch stateside this year</a> and De Souza confirmed that the two companies are looking into extending the partnership to other markets, including the US.Ample believes this technology could help save consumers time and hassle spent at the charging pumps while also bringing the upfront cost of an EV down.That's something De Souza believes will be essential if EVs are ever going to replace gas cars in the US."The only way you're going to have this mass transition from gas to electric is if you could go through and make charging as convenient and as cheap as gas," he said.
