The site functions as a localized directory of escorts, erotic masseuses, dominatrixes, fetish workers, and the like. Each one maintains her own personalized profile page of autobiographical information, pictures, and rules on how customers should behave.
It's got a clean, modern design. It's incredibly intuitive to use. And it doesn't look anything like the cheap-looking text-only ads of Backpage.com, where many escorts migrated after CragsList banned hookers.

It works like this: You browse the site by city, reading the profiles of local escorts. When someone catches your eye, all you have to do is reach out to her. Entertainers' email addresses and phone numbers are publicly visible to anyone browsing the site, so this is a pretty straightforward proposition.
In a roundabout way, this is the Internet's picture menu of sex.
User registration is free, but not required. The only impetus to have an account would be to follow your favorite escorts' status updates, like a sexy Facebook newsfeed.
If you're a prospective customer looking to hire an <keyword id="6772715" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="escort">escort</keyword>, you pay nothing to use the site. You have unlimited access to entertainer profiles and their contact information. Escorts obviously make money from their clients while Slixa gets its share by charging the escorts for their presences on the site. All standard pages are free right now, but entertainers can buy ad upgrades for a small fee to get increased publicity throughout the site.
Escorts use "credits" to buy a page (also called an ad) on Slixa, with each credit costing $1. To get your ad some exposure on a given city's page, Slixa charges 30 credits per month. To get it listed on the main homepage for some serious site-wide exposure, it's 375 credits for a 14-day period.
Spokesperson Lee Ann Jennings told us that "Slixa has signed up more than 3,000 entertainers in seven months with no signs of slowing down. Escorts and other adult entertainers continue to join at a rapid rate, which of course we're very happy about. The really significant thing is that we're more interested in quality over quantity."
The site is completely bootstrapped, run without any venture funding – "Just the way we like it," said Jennings.
And how much use does the site get? Jennings revealed that the company has "a strict privacy standard we adhere to, so we don't share any of our traffic stats with third parties. As for what percentage are hiring from the site, we don't track that information, as those discussions take place off-site, between the consumers and the entertainers for privacy reasons."
If you're into the idea of Slixa as long as your privacy is protected, this appears to be a non-issue.
In interviews, the only feedback we got from escorts using the site that even came close to constituting a "complaint" is that Slixa is still slightly under the radar and hasn't hit critical mass yet. One entertainer in New York City who requested to remain anonymous said that she would like to do much more business over the site in the future, but acknowledges that "it takes time to build a new brand. So, I believe in the site very deeply. I know it has a great future ahead of it, as it's specifically addressed issues that are a problem for other sites."
And what problems do these other sites have?
They "are either so poorly designed or have such low-functioning capacity that entertainers get lost in the shuffle (and if they don't want to be, they have to pay hundreds to thousands of dollars just to get any attention to their ads). Slixa does a fantastic job of creating a space where entertainers who invest in their business with high quality photos and ad copy have a chance at getting attention, without having to compete with cam sites or pornographic advertising," this escort said.
We had all kinds of legality questions. What's the difference between an escort and a prostitute, and how is Slixa able to operate in the clear?
We reached out to Adrianna Carter, an escort using the site to publicize her wares, who told us that "escorts are high-end companions. Prostitutes sell sex for money." This appears to come down to the subtle difference between selling your time and selling your body.
We also spoke to Lisa Love, an escort operating out of Dallas, Texas, who explained it the same way: "Well, an escort has companionship for sale. A prostitute has sex for sale. I personally like to be described as a 'provider' because I provide the combined services of a therapist, girlfriend, best friend, and ego-booster, you could say. But as a provider, I sell my time. Now, how we choose to spend our time – that's all up to the client."
However, if you're going to use the site, be smart. <a href="http://www.schnipperlaw.com/">Atlanta lawyer David Schnipper</a> told us that ads for adult companionship will dance around the specific details of what to expect, instead using keywords like "massage," "time," or "companionship" to stay in the clear. But law enforcement obviously knows what's happening. They're just far less likely to care until someone complains or gets injured. 
We were obviously curious about the financials here, and Slixa pages readily tell you the rates you can expect to pay. As the site caters to a clientele that is often of some means, encounters can get expensive quickly. Each escort sets her own price, but as an example, here's how much one New York City escort charges:

As president of entertainment and syndication at <keyword id="151464" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Hearst">Hearst</keyword> (it owns Cosmopolitan, among other titles), he cut deals with ESPN and Lifetime, and received a reported $6 million salary. He was a longtime <a href="http://www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/hearst_exec_viewed_escort_site_JNAWVoB0KyjbtPn08oujfN">friend of the Kardashian family</a>.
Sassa's most recent success was "The Bible," a joint project with Survivor's Mark Burnett <a href="http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/04/01/the-bible-easter-ratings/">for The History Channel that got record ratings</a>. He was the executive producer of the show, which was so popular that its audience rivaled that of AMC's The Walking Dead in size.
The two-hour conclusion of "The Bible" on Easter Sunday should have been Sassa's moment of triumph.
Instead, he found himself unemployed, spending time with his kids on vacation in Hawaii, wondering how he can salvage his career after a man claiming to be the boyfriend of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/hearst-scott-sassa-and-stripper-blackmail-2013-3">an escort sent Hearst's legal department copies of sexy text messages</a> Sassa had sent.
A source sent copies of those texts to Business Insider, along with emails exchanged between the boyfriend and Hearst. The messages have circulated among several Hearst executives. The texts are sexually graphic, and discussed drugs. They are not safe to be read aloud at work.
But they aren't unusual.

Sexting is so common as to be mainstream, and it sometimes seems as if everybody does it. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-galaxy-ad-is-about-dirty-videos-2012-10">Samsung has even made a funny commercial about sex-texting</a>. While sexting feels intimate and exciting to those exchanging the messages, what is often forgotten is that texts have only limited privacy protections. They can be copied and forwarded any number of ways. Sassa's texts, for instance, were not passed on by him or the woman to any third party. Rather, they were purportedly discovered by her disgruntled boyfriend — a man who may also have been her "business manager" — who became annoyed at the relationship between the two.
This, then, is a cautionary tale about the lack of privacy in the digital age.
The texts do not show that Sassa ever met the woman, supposedly an <keyword id="6772715" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="escort">escort</keyword> going by the name "Kira" who worked for the <a href="http://friendsofkariann.com/">Friends of Kari Ann web site</a> in the Los Angeles area.
They are simply messages between two consenting adults, conducted in private. Neither Sassa nor the woman have been accused of any wrongdoing. They are both single. In many ways, the messages were none of Hearst's business — it wasn't even a workday when Sassa sent them.
When reached, Sassa told Business Insider, "I just want to put this behind me."

The boyfriend, who does business under the name Ben Free, declined to talk on the record, although he did confirm the messages were genuine, and that he had an extensive criminal record which includes a conviction for assault. Three other sources familiar with the messages also confirmed to BI that the messages were Sassa's.
Unsurprisingly, few people were willing to talk to us on the record about Sassa's fall.
But speaking privately, those who knew him describe a driven, intense executive who is a great father to his children. Some in the media business have <a href="http://variety.com/2013/biz/biz/surprise-snickers-after-scott-sassas-hasty-hearst-exit-1200194665/">expressed sympathy for him</a>. After all, would anyone want the messages they've sent to lovers exposed to their employers? Expect Sassa, after a brief break, to come back to the business in a big way — we're told his phone is ringing off the hook with offers.
"He was the smartest, most forward-thinking media executive I ever worked with," said one colleague. "He was taking Hearst into the 21st Century."
Hearst, however, is a conservative company. "Everybody on the top floor is married with a wife and 2.5 kids and a picket fence," a source says. Sassa was single.
Three female sources told us that they had nothing but respect for Sassa, that they felt the texts were an aberration and not reflective of his day-to-day dealings with women. They noted that the texts occurred on Christmas Day, when Sassa — who lives in New York — was stuck in a Los Angeles hotel room without his family. "Here's a guy who was displaced around the holidays, who was kind of lonely," one told us.
By mid-March, <a href="http://www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/sexting_scandal_hits_hearst_aieV1g9CaSz4dp0VNxSrjO">The New York Post reported that Sassa was the victim of an extortion plot</a> involving the messages, and on March 13 he resigned his position. Hearst likely gave him a large severance package.

New Delhi, Jul 10 () The Competition Commission on Friday said it has given nod to acquisition of a little over 9 per cent stake in Escorts Ltd by Kubota Corporation, and 40 per cent stake acquisition in Kubota Agricultural Machinery India by Escorts. In March, domestic tractor maker Escorts had said that Kubota Corporation and the company have decided to strengthen their partnership under which the Japanese tractors and machinery leader will pick a 10 per cent stake in the Delhi-based company for Rs 1,042 crore. Under the deal, Escorts will allot about 1.23 crore equity shares through a preferential issue to Kubota Corp at Rs 850 per share, it had said. The equity sale will be from the shares held by Escorts Benefit &amp; Welfare Trust to ensure that the total equity share capital of the company remains unchanged. Kubota Corp will subscribe to 1,22,57,688 equity shares of Escorts constituting 9.09 per cent of the equity stake on a pre-capital reduction and 10 per cent on a post-capital reduction basis, as per the combination notice filed with the regulator. Besides, the notice also said that Kubota Corp will acquire the complete 40 per cent shares held by Sumitomo Corporation in Kubota Agricultural Machinery India Pvt Ltd, which would subsequently by acquired by Escorts. The fair trade regulator in a tweet said it "approves the acquisition of 9.09 per cent in Escorts Limited (Escorts) by Kubota Corporation and of 40 per cent in Kubota Agricultural Machinery India Private Limited by Escorts." Mumbai, Mar 20 () Domestic tractor maker Escorts and Kubota Corporation have decided to strengthen their partnership under which the Japanese tractors and machinery leader will pick a 10 per cent stake in the Delhi-based company for Rs 1,042 crore. The deal, coming at over 48 per cent premium on the current market value of Escorts, is one of the largest Indo-Japanese agriculture collaborations and will integrate technological excellence and innovation to provide latest farm mechanization solutions across the globe, the companies said. Already both the companies have a joint venture Escorts Kubota India in which the Japanese company owns 60 per cent and the rest is with Escorts. But with the new equity partnership, Escorts will also acquire 40 per cent stake in Kubota Agricultural Machinery India, the marketing and sales company of Kubota India. This is in pursuant of the preferential share allotment to the Japanese company, Escorts said in a statement. "To further deepen our existing relationship Kubota has decided to pick up 10 per cent equity stake, on a post-capital reduction basis, in Escorts to integrate and deepen their relationship towards achieving their mutual global ambitions," the Escorts statement said. On completion of the transaction, pending regulatory and shareholders' approvals, Escorts and Kubota will partner to become a leading player in India on one hand and make India a hub for product development, manufacturing and sourcing for global markets, the statement added. Under the deal, where JM Financial was the sole financial advisor, Escorts will allot 1.23 crore equity shares through a preferential issue to Kubota at Rs 850 a share. Its slogan is "Intimacy with a Twi$t."An Avid Life Media employee named John Santoro apparently emailed then-CEO Biderman about recruiting escorts for Arrangement Fingers. In an email to Biderman, he reportedly said: "Tested out sending emails to 20 escorts. Along the lines of 'you look amazing. I'm traveling on business. Are you on AF [Arrangement Finders]? I use that service when I travel for similar encounters.'" As recently as four months ago, Ashley Madison was seriously talking about the possibility of an IPO. Escort profiles remain private until an explicit agreement is reached.Ohlala touts that it brings power back into the hands of the escort by allowing them to pick their clients, set their price, and work around their schedule. <a href="https://www.wired.de/collection/latest/die-app-ohlala-soll-das-uber-fur-escort-services-sein" target="_blank">Wired reports</a> that Ohlala will not take a fee for facilitating the transaction until it starts to build up its user-base.According to TechCrunch, Ohlala closed a small seed round in June to finance their August launch, but will fundraise again in the near future. The personal phone number of the professor, Samuel See, was reportedly listed advertising Ryan Cochran Escort Services in New Haven. As <a href="http://www.nhregister.com/general-news/20131129/mystery-deepens-in-jail-cell-death-of-yale-prof-online-profile-linked-to-escort-services">The Register reports</a>:

Yale Professor Who Died In Jail Cell Reportedly Linked To New Haven Male Escort Service

The report by the <a href="http://www.urban.org/">Urban Institute</a> analyzes information on the trade in eight cities: Miami, Dallas, Washington, Denver, San Diego, Seattle, Atlanta, and Kansas City, Mo. 
Owners of escort services (essentially high-end prostitution services) structure their business carefully, keeping meticulous books and investing in shell companies or real estate, according to the report.
"We filed taxes and opened a business account … It was an escort service that allowed for massage and strip tease, but it was the acts of prostitution that made it illegal. We had them sign contracts [that included prohibitions against prostitution], but we turned our heads," one person affiliated with an escort service explained in the report. 
Unlike any other street prostitutes, escort services actually use credit cards and often keep most of their money on the books, essentially hiding from <keyword id="6355470" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Law">law</keyword> enforcement in plain sight. 
Owners also run counter-surveillance on the police who are trying to track them down. According to one law enforcement officer, there is a website called "Rate a Cop" for escort services to keep tabs. 
Prostitutes are also trained to suss out possible sting operations by proactively attempting to identify law enforcement prior to committing incriminating transactions. 
Strategies include:
Asking directly if they are the police
Watching customer's body language, movement, and appearance for suspicious or nervous behavior
Describing all actions taken by customers aloud so that, should a police officer do something inappropriate during a sting operation, it is recorded and usable in court. 
Actively pushing police during a sting to do something they aren't supposed to do

As a result, Quintero and other drivers get a police escort to protect their valuable, fatty fruits, which sell for up to $2.50 a piece in America. A single crate in Quintero's truck may hold $100-worth of avocados; a full truckload may be worth $80,000 to $100,000, the AP reported. "It is more peaceful now with the patrol trucks accompanying us, because this is a very dangerous area," Quintero told the AP. "They have stolen one or two, one every week, but it's not daily like it used to be."Quintero said robbers have not only stolen the valuable fruits, but also the trucks that drive them. "They would take away our trucks and the fruit, sometimes they'd take the truck as well," Quintero told the AP.
