<ul class="summary-list"><li>A baby contracted monkeypox in August, likely from contact with an infected caregiver.</li><li>The two had "daily close contact" for several weeks before the child showed any signs of infection.</li></ul><p>In August, a two-month-old baby showed up at a Florida emergency room with a raised, red rash present on its arms, legs, and trunk. </p><p>Doctors weren't sure what was going on with the child, and their routine tests for bacterial causes of the rash, as well as viruses including chickenpox, HIV, and herpes all came back negative. </p><p>When the baby returned to the ER two days later, that rash — now a week old — had developed into pox-like lesions all over the infant's body, and many of the bumps had a distinctive dot in the center of them.</p><p>This must be molluscum contagiosum, the providers thought. It's a relatively common <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/poxvirus/molluscum-contagiosum/risk.html">childhood infection</a> transmitted <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/poxvirus/molluscum-contagiosum/index.html">via skin to skin contact,</a> which doesn't typically require much treatment.</p><p>But over the next few days, the baby's bumps began to fill with pus. The pox spread over the child's back, the soles of their feet, face, and eyelids. The providers decided to perform a different <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/poxvirus/monkeypox/testing/testing-basics.html">test, which confirmed, 10 days after the rash initially surfaced: this is actually monkeypox</a>.</p><p>The case study, described in a <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/71/wr/mm7138e3.htm?s_cid=mm7138e3_x">new report</a> from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Monday, provides vivid new details about how monkeypox can develop and present on a newborn baby's body. Analyzing the case, CDC officials explain how the newborn contracted the virus, and emphasize that this is a rare event in the current outbreak. </p><h2>The child was treated with antivirals and antibodies</h2><p>The infant, whose name and gender were not published to protect the child's identity, received both the antiviral drug tecovirimat (TPOXX) and an IV drip of disease-fighting antibodies (called immune globulin, or IVIG).</p><p>The child did not develop a fever, "tolerated the treatments well, and fully recovered," CDC disease investigators said <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/71/wr/mm7138e3.htm?s_cid=mm7138e3_x">Monday in their new report</a>. </p><p>Pediatric monkeypox infections like this one have been exceedingly rare in the current outbreak. Only <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/poxvirus/monkeypox/response/2022/demographics.html">27 monkeypox infections</a> have been diagnosed nationwide in children under the age of 16 years old since the US monkeypox outbreak began in the spring — that's a tiny fraction of the nearly <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/poxvirus/monkeypox/response/2022/us-map.html">23,500 monkeypox cases</a> that have been officially documented so far.  </p><h2>What 'close contact' really means: daily care, holding, and sleeping side by side</h2><p>In this case, the baby likely got monkeypox from very close, sustained, daily contact with one of its four main caregivers.</p><p>The man, identified only as "Caregiver B" in the new CDC report, had developed a fever, blood in his urine, as well as a rash visible on his body during the three week period before the baby developed any symptoms. During that time, the baby shared bed linens with Caregiver B, slept alongside him, and had sustained, skin-to-skin contact from being held and cared for every day.</p><p>Caregiver B tested positive for an orthopox virus (that's <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/71/wr/mm7123e1.htm#:~:text=During%20this%20outbreak%2C%20a%20positive%20test%20result%20for%20an%20Orthopoxvirus%20at%20an%20LRN%20laboratory%20is%20presumed%20to%20be%20monkeypox">likely also monkeypox</a>) two days after the baby tested positive. </p><p>As Dr. Daniel Pastula, a professor of neurology, infectious disease and epidemiology at The University of Colorado and Colorado School of Public Health, <a href="https://www.insider.com/pictures-monkeypox-lesions-rashes-body-parts-skin-tones-2022-9">previously told Insider</a>, monkeypox can spread between people who are in very close physical contact with one another, whether the contact is sexual in nature or not.</p><p>None of the baby's three other caregivers got sick with monkeypox. They all received <a href="https://www.insider.com/do-you-need-monkeypox-vaccine-how-to-decide-2022-8">the Jynneos vaccine</a>, and as of 22 days later, none of them have contracted the virus.</p>

Schulenberg had seen Prince twice - once the day before his death on April 20 and on April 7, the day the singer canceled an Atlanta concert. According to&#xa0;the police filing, Schulenberg ran tests and prescribed medication for an undisclosed ailment, the <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/11/arts/music/princes-doctor-arrived-with-test-results-only-to-find-him-dead.html?_r=1" target="_blank">New York Times</a>&#xa0;reported.</span></p><p><span>When Schulenberg returned on April 21 to Prince's Paisley Park estate to deliver the test results, he found out that the singer had been pronounced dead.</span></p><p><span>The police filing by a Carver County Sheriff's investigator sought a warrant for medical records from&#xa0;<span>North Memorial Medical Center, part of the health organization where Schulenberg had previously worked. The Times reported that Schulenberg has a clean medical performance record.</span></span></p><p><span><span><span>"That shouldn't be a surprise to anybody that these records were examined," Carver County chief deputy Jason Kamerud </span><a href="http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-prince-search-warrant-prescription-drugs-20160510-snap-story.html" target="_blank" data-track="Body Text Link: External">told</a><span> the Los Angeles&#xa0;</span>Times <span>about the warrant.</span></span></span></p><p><span><span>Meanwhile, police cars were seen back on Prince's estate on Tuesday afternoon. Prince saw his doctor and got medication the day before he died

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Seven doctors tested postive or got COVID-19 symptoms after attending an anti-vaccine conference.</li><li>The event organizer told <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/dr-bruce-boros-and-six-others-from-florida-covid-summit-fall-sick">the Daily Beast </a> that he didn't see the event as a superspreader.</li></ul><p>Seven doctors who went to an anti-vaccine conference in <keyword id="11910362" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="florida" source="Orion">Florida</keyword> tested postive for COVID-19 or got symptoms days after the event, <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/dr-bruce-boros-and-six-others-from-florida-covid-summit-fall-sick">The Daily Beast reported</a>.</p><p>The November 6 event, named "The Day the Earth Listened," was organized by Dr. John Littell, who has said that masks don't work and has <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ivermectin-studies-for-covid-19-see-the-flawed-evidence-2021-10?r=US&amp;IR=T">promoted ivermectin, the deworming antiparasitic,</a> as a COVID-19 treatment.</p><p>Littell told The Daily Beast that seven of the attendees tested positive for COVID-19 or had symptoms within days of the gathering. The Daily Beast reported that they were all doctors.</p><p>The Daily Beast reported, citing Littell and two unnamed sources, that those doctors include Dr. Bruce Boros, 71, who said in a speech at the end of the conference: "I have been on ivermectin for 16 months, my wife and I. I have never felt healthier in my life."</p><p>Sources told The Daily Beast that Boros was now very ill at home.</p><p>The event had about 800 or 900 participants, The Daily Beast reported.</p><p>Littell said he didn't consider the conference to be a superspreader event, and that they were all likely infected before the conference started.</p><p>Boros also told the conference that he was angry that his 97-year-old father got the COVID-19 vaccine, saying he believed his father "had been brainwashed," The Daily Beast reported.</p>

7 doctors got COVID-19 days after going to an anti-vax conference in Florida

<ul class="summary-list"><li>White House physician Sean Conley admitted at a Sunday press briefing that President Trump was given supplemental <keyword id="6355647" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Oxygen">oxygen</keyword> on Saturday, which he declined to acknowledge the day before.</li><li>"I was trying to reflect the upbeat attitude that the team, the president, over his course of illness, has had," Conley said.</li><li>Conley's statements would back up White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, who expressed concerns about Trump's condition on Saturday.</li><li>Since Friday, Trump has received a second dose of the antiviral drug <keyword id="8775508" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="remdesivir">remdesivir</keyword>, along with a dose of <keyword id="1236743" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Dexamethasone">dexamethasone</keyword>, to fight the <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword>.</li></ul><p>White House physician Sean Conley admitted at a Sunday briefing that President Trump was given supplemental oxygen on Saturday, which he declined to acknowledge at yesterday's briefing.</p><p>"I was trying to reflect the upbeat attitude that the team, the president, over his course of illness, has had," he said. "I didn't want to give any information that might steer the course of illness in another direction, and in doing so, came off as if we were trying to hide something, which wasn't necessarily true. He is doing really well and...if everything continues to go well, we're going to start discharge plans back to the White House."</p><p>This revelation would support statements made by White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows the day before, on Saturday, regarding Trump's condition as he battles the coronavirus.</p><p>Meadows said that Trump experienced a "very concerning" period on Friday when his blood oxygen level dropped and he developed a high fever, and faced a "critical" 48-hour period at the Walter Reed Military Medical Center, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/election-2020-virus-outbreak-donald-trump-elections-campaigns-08fcfd3778ca3bbabd011307cf23dc8d">according to The Associated Press</a>. He also said that Trump was "not on a clear path yet to a full recovery."</p><p>At one point, Trump's oxygen levels dropped to 93%, according to the doctors, below the 95% figure that is cited as the lower limit for normal blood-oxygen saturation.</p><p>When asked about Trump's lung condition after performing scans, Conley declined to provide an answer.</p><p>Late Saturday, Conley said that the medical team overseeing Trump was "cautiously optimistic" but that the President was "not yet out of the woods."</p><p>Dr. Brian Garibaldi said Trump also received a second dose of the antiviral drug remdesivir, along with a dose of dexamethasone.</p><p>Garibaldi said that Trump is "up and well" and that the medical team wanted him to remain active on Sunday.</p><p>Earlier this year, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was taken to the hospital 10 days after he had contracted the coronavirus. There has been a significant rise in "<keyword id="19154300" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="text-neck-syndrome" source="Orion">text-neck syndrome</keyword>", especially among the young adults, which account for about 70 per cent in the outpatient department, said city doctors on Monday on the occasion of <keyword id="2558895" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="world-spine-day" source="Orion">World Spine Day</keyword>.<br /><br />World Spine Day is observed globally on October 16 to raise awareness about the importance of spine health. The theme of this year's Spine Day is "Move Your Spine".<br /><br />According to doctors at Amrita Hospital Faridabad, exposure to long hours in front of screens, coupled with poor posture and inadequate ergonomics in the workplace, is causing the young adults to be susceptible to spine-related conditions like "<keyword id="2615001" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="text-neck" source="Orion">text-neck</keyword> syndrome".<br /><br />The syndrome can be defined as where the neck muscles become strained and stiff, causing long-term spinal complexities, the experts said.<br /><br />"Poor posture has become the most common cause of back and neck pain among our OPD patients. Remarkably, nearly 70 per cent of our OPD patients fall into this category. Poor screen etiquette is also a leading contributor to such pain. People often use their gadgets with their neck bent for prolonged periods, leading to a condition called "text-neck syndrome. Individuals between the ages of 25 and 45 are the most commonly affected by postural back pain," said Dr Tarun Suri, Head of Spine Surgery at Amrita Hospital Faridabad.<br /><br />Studies show that poor posture is the primary cause of neck and back pain in young and mid-age individuals, leading to work loss, hospital visits, and treatment expenses. Over time, it damages spinal discs, causes muscle spasms, and may lead to chronic pain, disc degeneration, and even surgery in severe cases.<br /><br />The leading factors behind bad posture are poor workplace ergonomics, which entail long hours of sitting without proper chair and desk height, putting significant stress on the lower back and neck. Chronic stress can be extremely detrimental to one's spinal health. Neck, upper back, and shoulder muscles tend to tighten due to stress, which can lead to misalignment and poor posture, the doctor said.<br /><br />Dr Suri said, "Children aged 10-20 years are also experiencing postural spine pains".<br /><br />Spine problems among children are due to "poor studying posture, excessive gadget use, and carrying heavy school bags".<br /><br />The doctor advised people to not ignore posture issues that can have severe long-term consequences. The early warning signs for neck and back pain or developing chronic pain often come in the form of neck pains, with or without radiating pains in the arm, altered spinal alignment, lower back pain, and morning stiffness in the neck or lower back.<br /><br />However, with proper exercise and practice, these symptoms can be prevented.<br /><br />Dr Suri advised people to train themselves to use digital devices at eye level and not by bending the neck.<br /><br />"Holding a cell phone with the device near the ears and tilting the neck for extended periods is also a common bad habit among many people. It is recommended to use the speakerphone or headphones for such conversations. While sitting, the hips and knees should form about a 90-degree angle, with the feet flat on the ground. The back should also be in a neutral position and not hunched over or slouched," he said.<br /><br />The doctor also advised people sitting and working for long hours to take a 60-second break to stretch the back for 20-30 minutes. This can help release intradiscal pressures and improve circulation in spine tissues and muscles.<br />

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Junior doctors are taking to the streets of London on Saturday to protest new contracts that <a href="http://bma.org.uk/news-views-analysis/news/2015/september/the-bma-will-fight-any-attempts-to-impose-a-contract">the British Medical Association (BMA) has called "unsafe and unfair."</a><p>Doctors are marching from Waterloo to Parliament Square this afternoon to protest new government reforms they claim will force them to work longer hours for less money.</p><p>The reforms are wide-ranging but the <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/junior-doctors-strike-petition-hits-sociable-hours50000-2015-9">big issue doctors have is&#xa0;the changing of the definition of "sociable hours."</a></p><p>At the moment, junior doctors are paid the standard rate of pay when they work between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Friday. Any time worked outside of this window earns them overtime pay.</p><p>But the new contract would&#xa0;see junior doctors paid the standard rate for working anytime between 7am and 10pm, Monday to Saturday. That essentially makes a 15-hour day "normal" and adds an extra day to the week.</p><p>The government argues that it needs this flexibility to deliver a "seven-day-a-week NHS." But doctors fear it could lead to junior doctors being overworked.</p><p>By reducing the number of hours that earn overtime pay, junior doctors also say they will see a real-terms pay cut of up to 30%.</p><p>An estimated 17,000 people are expected to attend today's protest.</p><p><div></div></p><p class="embed-spacer">Dr Johann Malawana, BMA junior doctors committee chair, <a href="http://web2.bma.org.uk/pressrel.nsf/wall/583381D6472CE8FC80257EE0007FA985?OpenDocument">says in a statement today</a>: "The outpouring of anger and frustration we have seen from thousands of junior doctors across the <keyword id="6354868" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="UK">UK</keyword>, culminating in today's unprecedented gathering in London, must be a wake-up call for ministers. If they thought that junior doctors would simply accept their threats of imposition they have been proved very wrong.</p><p>"One former Conservative health minister, previously responsible for the contract negotiations, has said publically that junior doctors are already delivering a seven-day service 'week in week out, day in day out, looking after patients' and that they deserve a contract that is 'fair and properly rewards and looks after the interests of our medical workforce.'"</p><p>Dr Malawana is referencing MP Dr Dan Poulter, who released a video statement supporting junior doctors earlier this week.</p><p><div></div></p><p class="embed-spacer">Dr Malawana continues: "Instead of genuine negotiations, the government has insisted that junior doctors agree to recommendations without question. This is unacceptable and would not have allowed the BMA to negotiate over proposals we believe are unsafe for patients, unfair for doctors, and undermine the future of the NHS.</p><p>"We have always stated that without the continued threats of imposition and pre-conditions, the BMA would be happy to enter meaningful negotiations. "It's like all the rest of us, no? That's why we have a vice president and a speaker of the House and a whole line of people. They can just keep dying."</p><p>Five days after the interview, Bornstein told the publication he didn't want any photos or article from the interview to be published.</p><p>"I happen to have known the Sulzbergers for 50 years," Bornstein told STAT, referring to the family that publishes The New York Times. "I'm going to make sure you don't ever work again if you do this."</p><p>Bornstein, who has been Trump's doctor for more than 35 years, became a sensation when he wrote a letter stating Trump would be the healthiest president in history.</p><p>In the STAT interview, Bornstein said he had "never been able to find anything wrong with" Trump, aside for the fact that he's "a few pounds overweight." He also trashed Obamacare, saying "the rates went up, the services went down, the deductibles went way up."</p><p>And he had praise for Trump and his message of making America great again.</p><p>"Trump was elected, really, by people that are used to paying, the center of the country," Bornstein said. "The center of this country is the old Protestant ethic. "We will continue keeping you posted."</p><p>Doctors are also continuing to take care of the Thai navy SEALs and doctors that stayed with the kids.</p><p>Some of the boys were suspected of having a lung infection and a few lost about two kilograms (4.4 pounds), though the last measurements doctors were about five years old so they may have lost even more weight. </p><p>Doctors said the team survived because they had water to drink in the cave and are doing well "maybe because they had stayed together as a team."</p><p>"I have to praise the coach who took care of the players very well," the doctor said. </p><p>The rescue missions began Sunday after officials judged that time was short because of approaching monsoon rains and depleting oxygen levels inside the cave.
