But now, the dynamics seem to be changing as marketers are eyeing Olympic stars <keyword id="406835" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dipa-Karmakar">Dipa Karmakar</keyword>, <keyword id="6356003" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sakshi-Malik">Sakshi Malik</keyword> and <keyword id="501707" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="PV-Sindhu">PV Sindhu</keyword> for advertising. 
 
Brands are making a beeline for these three stars and are ready to sign contracts for as long as one year.

We are close to signing a multiyear deal for Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth, which will be their first endorsement deal," Tuhin Mishra, managing director of sports marketing firm Baseline Ventures, told ET. 
 
ET reported Mishra also got a call on Friday from an FMCG brand which is interested in doing a campaign around girl power and felt that Dipa Karmakar would be a great fit. 
 
Meanwhile, the stories of these Olympians are also compelling that can make brands tap on the right nerve of the customers. 
 
Neerav Tomar, CEO of IOS Sports &amp; Entertainment, told ET his company does not represent Karmakar at the moment but may take some offers to her and also look at signing her up. 
 
"We are talking to a few brands in the cement, pain relief, nutrition and insurance segments, which are interested in signing an endorsement deal with her. Brands want to cash in on an inspiring story. Dipa has emerged as the PT Usha of gymnastics and has caught the imagination of the masses. She's got a career left even beyond Tokyo," said Tomar. 
 
The endorsement deals they are negotiating, Tomar said, could be valued at around Rs 35-40 lakh a year per brand, but "we will need the athletes' consent". 
 
Brands also feel that these Olympians will also have to change their look and feel to become a brand themselves. 
 
Atul Srivastava, managing partner at Games Unlimited, told ET the three might get some endorsements immediately but a ramp-up in the future will depend on how quickly they change their look and feel and create a brand for themselves. "Of course, they should also keep performing well."

Twenty-two year old <keyword id="406835" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dipa-Karmakar">Dipa Karmakar</keyword>’s name will go down in history as she became the first ever <keyword id="3327265" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-woman-gymnast">Indian woman gymnast</keyword> to qualify for Olympics. 
 
Her strong performance at the qualifying game reserved her berth at the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=rio+olympics&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Rio Olympics.</a> 
 
Since Indian independence, 11 Indian male <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=gymnastics&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">gymnasts</a> have taken part in the Olympics and this will be the first for an Indian woman at the Olympics. 
 
Moreover, she will also be an Indian gymnast qualifying for the quadrennial extravaganza after 52 long years. 
 
"Following the Women's Qualification Competition at the Gymnastics Test Event in Rio, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) herewith confirms the list of nations and individual gymnasts that have qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games," the International Federation of Gymnastics (Federation Internationale de Gymnastique) stated. 
 
The Tripura girl secured 13.366 and 12.566 points in beam and floor exercises. 
 Deepak Kagra, an international referee, said that after Dipa's strong performance it was certain that she would qualify for <keyword id="1151997" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rio-Olympics">Rio Olympics</keyword>. 
"It was a very good score from Dipa and we were certain that she would qualify. Now the world body has published the names of the gymnasts who have qualified for the Olympics and her name is there. The gymnastics community is proud of Dipa's achievements," he said. 
 Dipa had created history by becoming the first woman gymnast to win a medal -- a bronze -- in the <keyword id="6354367" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Commonwealth-Games">Commonwealth Games</keyword> in Glasgow in 2014. He then became the first Indian woman gymnast to feature in the finals of World Championships in November last.

Kamal Hassan, who made his electoral debut this Lok Sabha election, as also been invited to the event despite being known for his opposition to Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Other Bollywood celebrities like Kangana Ranaut, Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Karan Johar have been extended invitation but confirmation of attendance is yet to come in. Aside from Ambani, industry leaders like Gautam Adani, Ratan Tata and Ajay Piramal have also been invited to attend alongside foreign players like Bill Gates and John Chambers. Adani and Ambani have been two of the key beneficiaries of the Modi regime. They’ve reportedly been seen accompanying the Prime Minister on his foreign trips during his last tenure, signing 18 deals in 16 countries between the both of them. Former crickets, Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath and Rahul Dravid, will also present at the event despite the ICC World Cup kicking off today afternoon. Other notable names from the sports arena like sprinter P T Usha, badminton champion Saina Nehwal, gymnast Dipa Karmakar, and coach Pulella Gopichand.

<ul><li><keyword id="285387" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Haier-India">Haier India</keyword> to become a billion-dollar company by 2020 and is also certain about being one of the top three players in the home appliance segment in the next two years. </li><li>With its recent investment in Uttar Pradesh’s industrial park, Haier is aiming to offer almost 4,000 new direct employment opportunities along with over 10,000 indirect jobs.</li><li>This year, the brand set aside ₹110 crore as its marketing budget. The brand spent its marketing monnies on traditional advertising, combined with digital and strategic brand sponsorships with an end goal of increasing engagement across channels. </li></ul>The Chinese appliances and electronic goods maker, Haier has grown 35% this year and aims to become a billion dollar company by the end of 2020. It is also aiming at becoming one of the top three players in the home appliance segment and rise from its currently held fifth position in the country. Last year, Haier India, which follows January-December fiscal calendar, grew at 50% and recorded a net revenue of around ₹3,500 crore. Despite seeing a dip in its Y-o-Y growth this year, Eric Braganza, President, Haier India is positive about achieving his set goals in 2020. “Our assurance is driven largely by the higher sales and Haier’s growth trajectory in India,” says Braganza. Importance of Indian Market for Haier For Haier, India is one of the top contributing markets. Hence, the brand aims to introduce new ‘state-of-the-art products that align with its philosophy of Inspired Living into the market.’ Sharing the reason behind India’s strength, Branganza said, “Being at the forefront of introducing innovation through our products, we have evolved as a market disruptor in consumer durables. We have a network of 20,000 dealers across India, in which around 2,000 are direct and 18,000 are indirect dealers. We are further growing our customer base through an extensive retail network of large format stores, multi-brand outlets and a robust dealer network across the country.” In its attempt to further strengthen its presence in the country and to ‘meet the rising demands,’ Haier invested ₹3,069 crore in an industrial park in Uttar Pradesh. It is set to open its doors by the end of 2020. Through this expansion, Haier aims to create almost 4,000 new direct employment opportunities along with over 10,000 indirect jobs. Braganza said Haier is also open to further expand in India, citing the company’s growth and consumers growing demands. Right now, Haier gets its lion’s share from refrigerators ー 40% of its overall turnover. “We are now increasing our investments across other categories such as Air Conditioners, Washing Machines and LED TVs,” says Braganza. Performance in 2019 Haier India set aside ₹110 crore as its marketing budget this year. In the first half of the year, it launched an integrated marketing campaign for its PuriCool range of air conditioners. The brand spent its marketing monnies on traditional advertising, combined with digital and strategic brand sponsorships such as KBC, Mega Icons, Masterchef, Mr. Punjab, and a few other regional programmes to ‘establish a closer connect with the customer.’ With the changing marketing landscape, Braganza says, content marketing is becoming important to engage with the consumers. “Content is an important aspect of marketing strategies today, given the influx of multiple surfaces and mediums where customers reside. It has become essential to effectively build a connect with customers in varied forms such as video, print or in a modern setup -- a gif, meme, website interface/blogs that play a critical role in forming a brand perception in consumer’s mind,” he adds. Braganza takes pride in the campaign ‘Silent Performers’ for its range of Silent Washing Machines launched during the festive season. The campaign highlighted the riveting stories of India’s leading women athletes -- Hima Das (sprint runner), Dipa Karmakar (Olympian artistic gymnast) and Simranjit Kaur (Indian boxer). “The TVC has been picturized on the daily lives of these sportswomen who champion the notion of achieving goals despite ‘unimaginable challenges’ and ‘media glare’,” he explains. This year, Haier also introduced heavy discounts and cashback offers to latch onto the trend. It saw more and more consumers ‘shifting to easy finance options for purchasing products’ and decided to partner with Bajaj Finserv, HDBFS, HDFC, IDFC First, Kotak and Axis Bank. Collectively, it offered affordable EMI schemes while giving the customers a chance to make the most of the festive season. Going forward, the brand will continue using integrated marketing solutions to increase engagement with its consumers, introduce new products to meet their rising demands, and give them an ultimate product experience.

Some of our sportspersons lost the chance to get the medal by a whisker as shooter Abhinav Bindra, rower Dattu Bhokanal and judoka Avtar Singh finished fourth, missing the third spot by a point or two. 
 
Indian weight-lifter Sathish Sivalingam was also out of the medal bracket and India’s hope for medals from Jitu Rai, Gagan Narang and Heena Sidhu also ended. 
 
Indian swimmers Sajan Prakash, Shivani Kataria were also knocked out of the competition and even archer laxmirani Majhi crashed out of women’s individual archery event. 
 But, there is still hope for India, which has sent its largest contingent ever, as boxers <keyword id="23353" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="manoj-kumar">Manoj Kumar</keyword>, Vikas Krishnan and gymnast Dipa Karmakar are still in the foray. 
 Our badminton stars Jwala Gutta, <keyword id="30618" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Saina-Nehwal">Saina Nehwal</keyword> and wrestlers <keyword id="157783" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Yogeshwar-Dutt">Yogeshwar Dutt</keyword> and Narsingh Yadav are still to compete and there are bright chances for India to win a medal there. 
 
The biggest thing is to compete at Olympics as with given infrastructure in India, achieving this level of feat in sporting era in itself is commendable and we all should be proud of our sportpersons who are taking the pressure, sweating it out and doing everything they can for India. 
 
Here are the hopefuls that will open the scorecard for India on medal tally. Fingers crossed!
